Abstract

N-Arylmethylideneglycine N-oxide alkyl esters(1) were alkylated with alkyl halides in THF using lithium hexamethyldisilazide as a base, followed by hydroxylaminolysis to give N-hydroxy-${\alpha}$-amino acid esters(7).
