연기 장재리 출토 철겸의 제작방법 연구

초록

철겸은 다양한 형태를 가지고 다양한 용도로 사용된 도구이다. 농기구는 물론 무기로 사용된 경우도 있다. 지금까지의 연구는 주로 농기구의 특징에 초점을 맞추어 형태적 변화에 대해 이루어졌다. 과학적 분석 사례는 많지 않으므로 이 논문에서는 철겸의 금속학적 분석에 대해 다루고자 하였다. 연기 장재리의 철겸 2점을 분석하고 인근 유적인 연기 송원리에서 출토된 철겸의 금속학적 연구 결과와 비교하였다. 3점 모두 단조 성형, 열처리 공정으로 제작되었다. 연기 장재리의 No.1 철겸은 담금질의 마르텐사이트 조직이 확인되었다. 연기 장재리의 No.2 철겸은 다른 2점에 비해 고온의 제작환경을 겪었던 것으로 나타났다. 이로 보아 연기 송원리의 철겸보다는 기술적 난이도가 높았던 것을 알 수 있었다.
