DOI : 10.14699/kbiblia.2014.25.3.009
As a new library system, the 'human library', in which a man becomes an information resource, provides a library service through face-to-face communication in delivering knowledge and information to users. Since the human library exchanges information with 'human books', it shows some characteristics that are different from traditional library services and connotes some meanings as a new library service. In that, this study focuses on the human library of Seongbuk-Gu, Seoul. Specifically, in order to enhance our understanding of the human library, this study looks into the theoretical underpinnings and the background of human library in Seongbuk-Gu, examines the case of the human library in Seongbuk-Gu, analyzes the factors that influence the human library, and makes some suggestions for improvement.

DOI : 10.14699/kbiblia.2014.25.3.029
As one of various cultural heritages created by humanity, traditional architectures are an archival heritage and cultural heritage reflecting social trends and historical facts. These traditional architectures show various features depending on characteristics by local areas and climatic conditions. They can be expressed in diverse formats such as a picture, a floor plan, and a book. For managing and retrieving traditional architecture records, it is necessary to develop metadata schema based on the FRBR model. Accordingly, this study analyzes the current situation and the problem of domestic and foreign metadata schema related to cultural heritage, and proposes the FRBR-based metadata schema for managing the traditional architecture.
A Study on the Difference in the Perception of Information and Attitude by Individual Cultural Disposition
Kim, Ji-Hyun ;
Journal of the Korean BIBLIA Society for library and Information Science, volume 25, issue 3, 2014, Pages 59~76
DOI : 10.14699/kbiblia.2014.25.3.059
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of individual cultural disposition on the perception of contextual information and attitude toward contextual material, and to provide the effective ways of delivering information. To investigate individual cultural disposition, this study employed Triandis(1988)'s cultural scale that classified people into four categories using individualism/collectivism and vertical/horizontal dimensions. The results revealed that Korean college students had higher horizontal collectivism than other cultural dispositions, but only a few Korean college students had vertical individualism. The results using regression analysis revealed that Korean college students with vertical collectivism significantly perceived more contextual information than other groups.
A Study on the Perception of Public Library Users on Multi-cultural Services
Kim, Giyeong ; Oh, Haeyeon ;
Journal of the Korean BIBLIA Society for library and Information Science, volume 25, issue 3, 2014, Pages 77~100
DOI : 10.14699/kbiblia.2014.25.3.077
This study aims to investigate the perception of public library users, who are local residences, on the multi-cultural services in public libraries using a series of statistical analyses on a questionnaire survey. The objectives of multi-cultural policies by Korean government are to foster assimilation of the multi-cultural people, social unification of Korean (local) communities, and cultural diversity in the communities. The results from the analyses show that the multi-cultural services in public libraries are understood from the unification and assimilation point of views, and that the perception of the multi-cultural services in public libraries is affected by the libraries' marketing activities, such as advertisements and participation. For the sustainable provision of the services, we suggest that the libraries would better consider 1) multi-oriented services with cultural diversity, assimilation, and social unification, 2) relationship with other multi-cultural agencies in a community, and 3) the perception of local residences on the services in public libraries.
An Expansion of Affective Image Access Points Based on Users' Response on Image
Chung, Eun Kyung ;
Journal of the Korean BIBLIA Society for library and Information Science, volume 25, issue 3, 2014, Pages 101~118
DOI : 10.14699/kbiblia.2014.25.3.101
Given the context of rapid developing ubiquitous computing environment, it is imperative for users to search and use images based on affective meanings. However, it has been difficult to index affective meanings of image since emotions of image are substantially subjective and highly abstract. In addition, utilizing low level features of image for indexing affective meanings of image has been limited for high level concepts of image. To facilitate the access points of affective meanings of image, this study aims to utilize user-provided responses of images. For a data set, emotional words are collected and cleaned from twenty participants with a set of fifteen images, three images for each of basic emotions, love, sad, fear, anger, and happy. A total of 399 unique emotion words are revealed and 1,093 times appeared in this data set. Through co-word analysis and network analysis of emotional words from users' responses, this study demonstrates expanded word sets for five basic emotions. The expanded word sets are characterized with adjective expression and action/behavior expression.

A Study on Research Data Management Services of Research University Libraries in the U.S.
Kim, Jihyun ;
Journal of the Korean BIBLIA Society for library and Information Science, volume 25, issue 3, 2014, Pages 165~189
DOI : 10.14699/kbiblia.2014.25.3.165
This study examined the current practices of Research Data Management (RDM) services recently built and implemented at research university libraries in the U.S. by analyzing the components of the services and the contents presented in their web sites. The study then analyzed the content of web pages describing the services provided by 31 Research Universities/Very High research activity determined based on the Carnegie Classification. The analysis was based on 9 components of the services suggested by previous studies, including (1) DMP support; (2) File organization; (3) Data description; (4) Data storage; (5) Data sharing and access; (6) Data preservation; (7) Data citation; (8) Data management training; (9) Intellectual property of data. As a result, the vast majority of the universities offered the service of DMP support. More than half of the universities provided the services for describing and preserving data, as well as data management training. Specifically, RDM services focused on offering the guidance to disciplinary metadata and repositories of relevance, or training via individual consulting services. More research and discussion is necessary to better understand an intra- or inter-institutional collaboration for implementing the services and knowledge and competency of librarians in charge of the services.

Kim, Giyeong ; Choi, Yoonhee ; Kang, Jaeyeon ; Go, Pyeongjin ;
Journal of the Korean BIBLIA Society for library and Information Science, volume 25, issue 3, 2014, Pages 191~214
DOI : 10.14699/kbiblia.2014.25.3.191
The goal of this study is an exploratory statistical analysis of the university and college library statistics in the Academic Information Statistics System(rinfo.kr) governed of Korean Education and Research Information Service(KERIS) with performance measures based on sustainability. For the goal, we adopt a preprocessing method to develop change-rate variables by considering preceding predictive elements and succeeding performance elements, and to control external factors, such as size and socioeconomic factors. Then we execute a series of factor analyses and multiple linear regression analyses. 13 factors are extracted by the factor analyses and some sets of significant variables affecting the performance measures are identified through the regression analyses. Based on the results, we discuss the problem of out-lier and low correlation between variables. A suggestion for developing new variables is also discussed based on low effect sizes of the developed regression models. We hope that this study contributes to diffuse discussions on statistics system, evaluation, and further library management based on sustainability.
