A Study on Structural Test and Derivation of Standard Finite Element Model for Composite Vehicle Structures of Automated People Mover

The vehicle structure of Automated People Mover(APM) made of aluminum honeycomb sandwich with WR580INF4000 glass-fabric epoxy laminate facesheets was evaluated by structural test and finite element analysis. The test of the vehicle structure was conducted according to JIS E 7105. The structural integrity of vehicle structure was evaluated by stress, deflection and natural frequency obtained from dial-gauge and acceleration sensor. And the proposed finite element models were compared with the results of structural test. The results of finite element analysis showed good agreement with those of structural test. Also, in order to improve the stiffness of vehicle structure, the modified underframe model with reinforced side sill was proposed in design stage. The composite vehicle structures with modified underframe model had the improved structural stiffness about 44%.
Interfacial Properties of Gradient Specimen of CNT-Epoxy Nanocomposites using Micromechanical Technique and Wettability

Interfacial evaluation of glass fiber reinforced carbon nanotube (CNT)-epoxy nanocomposite was investigated by micromechanical technique in combination with wettability test. The contact resistance of the CNT-epoxy nanocomposite was measured using a gradient specimen, containing electrical contacts with gradually-increasing spacing. The contact resistance of CNT-epoxy nanocomposites was evaluated by using the two-point method rather than the four-point method. Due to the presence of hydrophobic domains on the heterogeneous surface, the static contact angle of CNT-epoxy nanocomposite was about
, which was rather lower than that for super-hydrophobicity. For surface treated-glass fibers, the tensile strength decreased dramatically, whereas the tensile modulus exhibited little change despite the presence of flaws on the etched fiber surface. The interfacial shear strength (IFSS) between the etched glass fiber and the CNT-epoxy nanocomposites increased due to the enhanced surface energy and roughness. As the thermodynamic work of adhesion,
increased, both the mechanical IFSS and the apparent modulus increased, which indicated the consistency with each other.
Effects of Fiber Orientations and Hybrid Ratios on Lubricant Tribological Characteristics of

The lubricant tribological characteristics of
fiber and SiC particle hybrid metal matrix composites (MMCs) fabricated by squeeze casting method was investigated using a pin-on-disk wear tester. The wear tests of the MMCs were performed according to fiber/particle hybrid ratio in the planar-random (PR) and normal (N) orientations sliding against a counter steel disk at a fixed speed and
loading under different sliding distances and temperatures. The test results showed that the wear behavior of MMCs varied with fiber orientation and hybrid ratio. At room temperature, the lubricant wear behavior of F20P0 unhybrid PR-MMCs was superior to that of N-MMCs while the hybrid composites exhibited the reverse lubricant wear behavior. It was also revealed that the wear resistance of PR-MMCs was superior to that of the N-MMCs due to the joint action of reinforcements and lubricant film between the friction surfaces at an elevated temperature of

A Study on Post-Tensioned Reinforced Concrete Slab by the Beam Theory

Thus, finite difference method was used for analysis of the problem. In this paper, the finite difference method and the beam theory were used for analysis. The result of beam analysis was modified to obtain the solution of the plate analysis.
An Experimental Study on the Strength of Two Serial Bolt-Fastened Composite Joints under Elevated Temperature and Humid Condition

The failure strengths and modes in carbon fiber reinforced polymeric composites, with two serial bolt-fastened composite joints, were investigated to evaluate the typical joint configurations of composite components. The parametric studies were performed experimentally at room temperature dry and elevated temperature wet,
on several different laminate configurations. Based on the experimental data presented, two basic load-displacements curves are observed. Each failure mode has the characteristic curve. It is showed that the bearing failure mode occurs in elevated temperature wet condition. It is analysed that the strength of bearing failure mode is not highly depending on the effective modulus of specimen. The failure strength at elevated temperature wet is decreased by the cause of interfacial deterioration between fiber and matrix with moisture absorption.
Effect of Combined Environmental Factors on Degradation Behavior of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Composites

Thermal analysis properties and chemical structure of carbon fiber/epoxy composites under environmental exposure were examined using an accelerated aging tester which can simulate real weather conditions such as temperature, moisture and ultraviolet. The composite specimens were exposed to combined environmental factors up to 3000 hours. Thermal analysis properties and chemical structure of the composites were evaluated with various exposure times through Modulated DSC and FTIR. According to the results of Modulated DSC, the glass transition temperature increased as exposure time increased due to the formation of network structures in the composites. Also endotherm peaks of enthalpy relaxation related to physical aging that can affect the properties of the composites were observed as exposure time increased. From the results of FTIR, it was found that the location of the peaks was little affected by exposure time, but the intensity of the peaks slightly decreased as exposure time increased due to the curing reaction in the epoxy group.
