A Simulation of Wave Induced Current Around the Jeju New Harbor

In this study, the change of the current in the coastal zone before and after the construction of Jeju new harbor was predicted by using the numerical model, which uses Hardy-Cross method. The numerical model was carried out for the present state, before the construction, and the state after the construction, and for the wave direction the NNW direction for winter and NE direction for summer were tested so that the seasonal change may be considered. The computation result shows that a large amount of the wave induced current was occurred when there were high waves coming in from NNW direction before and after the construction. Also, before the construction a longshore current occurred moving from the west to the east at the new harbor construction site so that it formed a rip current in the Hwabuk-dong front sea. And also, after the construction, the tip current produced changed into nearshore circulating current and a small circulating current appeared at the harbor entrance. On the other hand, at Samyang 4each, which is 3.0km away from the new harbor in the NE direction, shows that there was a longshore current occurred from the west to the east, which is in the opposite direction the new harbor, and the effect on the new harbor by sediment transport at Samyang beach is thought to be very small.
A Study on the Introduction of Early Warning System for Slope Failure

In recent years slope failure due to heavy rainfalls or local downpours usually accompanied by typhoons has increasingly occurred in Korea. Also, the damages caused by slope failure have a tendency to be more disastrous than before. This study has been conducted to prepare an early warning system for slope failure by : (1) analyzing types and causes of slope failure, (2) examining the published evaluation criteria for slope stability, (3) estimating slope stability by considering the properties of slope-forming materials as well as the topographical and geological properties of slopes, and (4) determining the most important variables of affecting the stability of the slope under consideration. The data on the variations of slope conditions measured by an automatic in-situ measurement system and then transmitted to the central analysis system by using an internet. The most important variables can be back-calculated in the central system and compared with the values for the first and second management criteria. These management criteria should be modified and corrected continuously in the future by accumulated data and knowledge related to the early warning system for slope failure.
A Condition Analysis and Response Measures of Cyberstalking

In current society, there has been rapid change in process towards the information society from the industrial society. Cyberstalking can be regarded as a kind of new comer in the issue of contemporary crimes. The Cyberstalking has been focused on famous people and entertainers in th past, whereas more seriously, the range of victims has expanded to the public in recent. Form this aspect, the goal of this study is establish the cyberstalking by considering causes, characteristics and suggest legal, social methods.
Cause of Rall Road Slope Failure and Determination of Soil Strength for Remedy

Rail road slope can be fatted because of existence of unexpected soft subsoil. Purpose of this study is verifying the cause of rail road slope failure and determination of soil strength for remedy. Drilling some boreholes, cone penetration test and field vane test were executed in order to find out the cause of slope failure. In addition, laboratory test was conducted in order to determine soil strength of soft soil sampled as undisturbed state. As a result of both the in-situ and the laboratory tests, the cause of slope failure is thought to be propagation of failure zone by progressive rupture of overconsolidated clay Soft soil strength was determined through back analysis of the failed slope.

. In this study, the monthly rainfall data at Seoul city is analyzed by applying an intervention model. As it is unavailable to get the data of El Nino phenomena, the point of intervention have been decided from the literature survey of the data observed to be the years of 1972, 1976, 1979, 1982, 1986 and 1991. An Analysis of Flushing Effects for Instantaneous Contaminants Input into River

This study had been performed to analyze flushing effects for instantaneous contaminants input with changing dam discharge in River. RMA-2 and RMA-4 models were applied to the downstream part of the Han River(from Jamsil submerged weir to Singok submerged one) The longitudinal dispersion coefficient of

in the Han River. The arrival time and the concentration of contaminant, the area of dispersion were estimated with RMA-4 model in the downstream part of the Han River. The arrival time which the concentration of contaminants become under 1ppm was analyzed with the stagnant and the instantaneous inflow contaminant at the section of Sungsan Bridge. The more increasing a dam discharge, the more short a dilution time of contaminant. The relation between the dam discharge and dilution time shows linearity. The instantaneous contaminant input was sensitively affected by the dam discharge than the stagnant contaminant one in the river. If it is tried to flush with a temporally increased dam discharge, it should be understood the range of overflowed contaminant dispersion from main channel to tributary channel.
Application of the Fuzzy Models for the Efficient Operation of Pumping Station

Urban flood damage has been caused by drainage deficiency. One of the methods to solve this problem is to construct detention basin and Pumping station and to pump out the water to the river. However, because of rapid urbanization, the capacity of drainage pipelines is sometimes not sufficient enough during the rainy season. Therefore, even though we have enough pumping stations, the inflow of surface water never reaches to the detention area, causing floods in urban area. This research is to find improvement of urban drainage system, estimating drainage pipeline risk. Also, eight models for a computer program were developed for practical use. The models were verified changing precipitation duration, intensity, design period, time distribution model, and etc. This verification was processed focusing that the model can regulate the water level in the detention basin and minimize the effect downstream. As a result Fuzzy models were found to be efficient to lower the water level in detention basin, and decreased about 8 cm in water level of downstream.
Multipurpose Dam Operation Models for Flood Control Using Fuzzy Control Technique ( III ) - Multi Reservoir Operation Methods -

In this research, multi reservoir operation methods for reservoirs in Han River are proposed based on the single dam operation models using fuzzy control techniques. The result of fuzzy controled single dam operation has shown that it can improve flood controllability at the downstream of dams. Among the many control rules of fuzzy operation, a rule that shows the most effective flood control rate at the downstream has been selected as Ike operation rule. The simulated results for 1990 and 1995 flood events are compared with historical ones. As the results, it is founded that suggested models can reduce the inundation of upstream and keep the water elevation lower at downstream, which make the proposed models as the effective methods in multi reservoir operation.
A Study on the Cover Property of Offshore Reinforced Concrete Structure

On this study, durability decreasing element caused by salt damage was analyzed elementally and studied with the data of the inside and outside in the country. The design strength and water-cement ratio according to diffusion coefficients of chloride were applied to Fick's diffusion equation. The required over depended on environmental conditions is estimated with endurance period, and the influences on cover according to the transformation of the each parameter were investigated. In consequence, if water-cement ratio decreases and design strength increases, it shows that slowing infiltration velocity of chloride ion can decrease required cover. Especially, it is more effective to use Portland blast-furnace slag cement into high strength concrete in the splash zone environmental conditions in blocking the diffusion of chloride ion. As the result, in the case of the offshore concrete structure needed high durability, it is needed to increase cover(
) than minimum standard cover(8cm) according to environmental conditions.
A Study on the Water Spray Distribution in Underground Culvert

In underground culvert are established main and basic facilities for electric power, communication, gas and heating pipe etc. In the future the use of underground culvert will be enlarged and the peril of fire will be increased. Thus it is necessary to make a general plan to prevent fire. The skills to prevent fire in underground culvert will be accumulated by the spray distribution of the nozzle and domestic skills in fire fighting will be upgraded. It will also contribute to the construction of common small fire fighting system suitable to the domestic surrounding and the growth of domestic skills for fire fighting and disaster prevention.
Research of the base smoke control planes for high-rise apartment

Recently, the cityward tendency of the population has caused the construction of a high rise apartment increased, because it is possible for many people to dwell on a small ground area in an apartment. In the future the number of the constructed high-rise apartment units will also increase, because many people require a better environment and more improved space of their life. However, apartment buildings with many dwellers in spite of small area are exposed to great dangers, particularly fire. So the adaptable control methods of smoke which is the most dangerous to people in a fire were proposed by an analysis on some standards for the fire in this study.
