Guidelines for the Construction of Vulnerability Map of Fire in Seoul

In the area of disaster management, we have more focused on the rapid response and recovery, but preventive approach for disaster is becoming more and more important. For mitigation of disasters, we need to analyze the vulnerable area according to each disaster, and need to manage those area systematically. In this research, we selected the fire as a type of disaster, developed guideline of construction of vulnerability map of fire, and built the vulnerability map of fire in Changshin-Dong, Jongro-Gu, Seoul as a case study area. The vulnerability map of fire can be applied to grasp the vulnerable area in advance and manage it systematically. In addition, it can also be applied in the landuse planning and the rearrangement of infrastructure for the mitigation of disaster when we build detail city planning.
Experiment on Settling Behaviour of Fine Mineral Particles

Experiments on settling behaviour of fine-grained particles without destroying the large fragile aggregates were carried out in still water with a CCD (Charged Coupled Device)-Camera. The experiments dealt with the measuring of the vertical concentration profile of cohesive particles with a CCD-Camera and the physico-chemical influences (NaCl, density, temperature and pH value) on the vertical distribution of the concentration. The vertical concentration profile of fine suspended particles (alumina and quartz) was possible up to
with a CCD-Camera. The vertical concentration profile of cohesive sediments was on the decrease because of the increasing initial concentration, temperature and salinity. The vertical concentration profile of alumina was on the decrease quicker than quartz with increasing salinity. Furthermore, the pH value affects the settling behaviour of alumina. At a PH value of 4.2 the settling rate of the particles was very low and on the increase until pH 8.9 because of the aggregation behaviour of particles. From the PH value of 9 the average settling velocity was on the decrease.
Earthquake Resistant Design Methods on the Slopes

A significant development has been made on earthquake resistant designs on many structures since the Korean government has begun modern earthquake hazard reduction programs after recognizing potential disastrous consequences of seismic events following the Kobe earthquake in 1995. However, some structures such as slope structures still haven't get ready for their own seismic design guidelines in Korea. Therefore, only a few organizations of Korea adopt seismic design for slopes relying on designers' judgments at present. This paper introduces domestic and foreign research activities on seismic slope stability and an idea of Korean earthquake resistant design method for slopes including alternatives of earthquake resistant design application according to designers' judgment considering construction budget, importance, restoration and so on. Afterwards, seismic data accumulation on slope stability of Korea is necessary to induce a more definite Korean earthquake resistant design method.
Wheel Load Distribution Factor for Girder Moment and Shear Force of Skew Plate Girder Bridges

The girder wheel load distribution factors stated in the Korean Bridge Specification and AASHTO Standard Specifications do not account for the effect of skewness of plate girders, and very little research has been conducted on girder wheel load distribution factors. The purpose of the study is to propose load distribution factor formulas for skew plate girder bridges which comprise various parameters through structural analysis. To confirm the validity of finite element models used in this study analytic values are compared with the field test results. From the results it should be noted that span length is not such a dominant parameter compared with others. In view of better load distribution of interior girders, skew arranged cross beams or bracing are preferable, furthemore bracing system is more effective than cross beam system. By means of regression analysis on the basis of analytic results wheel load distribution factor formulas are proposed and compared with current codes.
Field Investigation of Scour-Protection Methods for Bridges in Small Size Streams of Central Region of Korea

Scour plays a principal role in maintaining stability and durability of bridges. Especially, in case of severe flood events, flow rate getting increase in a short time, scour can impede the functioning of bridges to the extent that they must be taken out of operation, and even can imperil their stability and structural integrity. In Korea, about 100 bridges were collapsed or damaged every you. Sufficient field investigation, however, was not made and, therefore, no adequate countermeasure for scouring is available. In this study, literature on scour-protection methods are reviewed and data on countermeasures of scouring which were collected through field investigation in central region of Korea are analyzed.

. In this paper. The researchers investigated about in-plane inelastic buckling behaviors of parabolic arch ribs having rise-span ratio from 0.1 to 0.4. From the results. When the rise-span ratio increase, flexural moments increase and influence of axial force to in-plane buckling strength decrease. Finally, buckling curves for parabolic arch ribs subjected distributed loading along the axis were suggested.
Application of LSIV to Hydraulic Model Experiment on River Confluence

LSIV (Large Scale Image Velocimetry), a technique of image analysis on velocity measurement, was applied to a hydraulic model experiment of river confluence. The surface velocities measured by using LSIV showed similar results with the mean velocities by using a traditional velocimeter, While a general velocimeter can measure only local point velocity, LSIV can measure whole velocity field with one shot. When it is applied to river confluence or around a bridge pier where local flow is dominant, LSIV may be a powerful tool to measure velocity field.
Strength of Anchors under Load Applied Angles

The pull-out capacity of expansion anchor(heavy duty anchor and wedge anchor) was studied experimentally in this paper. Loading conditions included tension, shear, and combined tension and shear. The heavy duty anchor and wedge anchor were manufactured in domestic and installed In plain concrete. The failure mode of steel and concrete were studied carefully for the analytical formula of the anchorage design and the experimental data were compared with different models for the interaction of tension and shear capacities. Based on the research, the following conclusion may be drawn : The interaction of forces is well-described by an elliptical interaction relationship.
A Study on the Bond Stress of Rebar in Reinforced Concrete Pavement using Recycled Aggregate

Amount of demolished concretes is highly produced as dismantlement of structures to increased owing to usage alteration and deteriorated of concrete structures, but most of them have been used as material for simple reclamation. Therefore, if demolished concrete could be recycled as aggregate for concrete. it will contribute to solve the exhaustion of nature aggregate, in terms of saving resources and protecting environment, especially being want of resources in Korea. In this study it was investigated into experimental results that were carried out demolished concrete recycled aggregate gained from dismantled real structures and source concrete recycled aggregate produced according to respectively 5 steps of replacement ratio for recycling as pavement concrete aggregate.
