Behaviors of Hollow RC Columns with Internal Steel Tube by Hollow Ratio

The hollow RC(Reinforced concrete) column has the effect of reducing weight and materials compared to solid RC column. However, the hollow RC column shows a low ductile behavior due to brittle failure of inside concrete. To overcome this problem, the internally confined hollow reinforced concrete column has been developed. In this study, the behavior of internally confined hollow RC columns were evaluated with safety ratio, ductility, total material cost, the total weight of the pier, etc. The hollow ratio is varied from 0.50 to 0.85.
A Study on Reconstruction Models of Side-channel Spillway for Discharge Capacity Improvement

The small and medium sized dams have the fill dam type of a lot of occasions, which are often weak in cases of major floods. For this reason, although a countermeasure is in great need, due to the importance of the facilities and financial situations, no direct safety measures have been taken. In this study, in order to minimize construction expenditure for practical safety measures in cases of major floods, the overflow section of spillway has been analyzed focusing on how the overflow capacity will increase in the case of partially rebuilding a part of the overflow section of spillway favorable for hydraulic conditions. The labyrinth weir and movable weir was chosen for reconstruction models of the overflow section. Moreover, for analyzing the after-effects of the reconstruction, a small scale dam was temporarily chosen for various experiments such as the hydraulic model testing and the three dimension numerical evaluation through the use of Flow-3D.
Autogenous Shrinkage of High-Performance Concrete Containing Mineral Admixture

Humidity and strain were estimated for understanding the relation between humidity change by self-desiccation and shrinkage in high-performance concrete with low water binder ratio and containing fly ash and blast furnace slag. Internal humidity change and shrinkage strain were about 10%, 10%, 7%, 11%, 11% and
respectively on OPC30, O30F10, O30F20, O30G40, O30G50 and from the results, fly ash made humidity change and strain decrease but slag increase comparing with ordinary portland cement. Considering only relation internal humidity and shrinkage by self-desiccation, humidity change and shrinkage represented the strong linear relation regardless of mineral admixture. For specifying the relation on internal humidity change and autogenous shrinkage strain, shrinkage model was established which is driven by capillary pressure in pore water and surface energy in hydrates on the assumption of a single network and extended meniscus in pore system of concrete. This model and experimental results had a similar tendency so it would be concluded that the internal humidity change by self-desiccation in HPC originated in small pores less than 20nm, therefore controlling plan on autogenous shrinkage might be focused on surface tension of water and degree of saturation in small pore.
Evaluation on the Performance of Nano Mixed Inorganic Repair Material for Crack Repair of Concrete Structures

This paper presents a detailed experimental study on the engineering and durability properties of nano mixed inorganic repair material with rehabilitation and enhancement of performance of concrete structure occur to crack. The performance of specimens was evaluated using bond strength, chloride ion ingress, carbonation and brine resistance. It was shown in the results of the experiments that it had a superior function in the bond strength under the standard and wet-dry condition of all the repair material. Moreover, it had a good function in the experiments for chloride ion ingress, carbonation and brine resistance. Judging from the above-mentioned results, it is expected to be used for the rehabilitation and enhancement of the performance of concrete structure.
Prevention Meteorological Database Information for the Assessment of Natural Disaster

In order to reduce the amount of damage from natural disasters and perform the natural disaster mitigation program, the prevention activities and forecasting based on meteorological parameters and disaster datas are required. In addition, it is necessary to process prevention meteorological information for prevention activities in advance. For this, we have analyzed four data, such as Statistical yearbook of calamities and Statistics Yearbook issued by the Ministry of Government Administration and Human affairs. And Annual Climatological Report issued by the Korea Meteorological Administration and Recently 10 years for natural disaster damage from the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters. We analyzed the causes, elements, occurrence frequencies, and vulnerable areas of natural disaster, using the 4 disaster datas, but these datas was not consistent with their terminology and items. Through the analysis of a kind and damage of disaster, we have selected the disaster variables, such as causes and elements, the amount of damage, vulnerable areas of natural disaster, etc and made a database. This database will be used to assess the natural disasters and develop the risk model and natural disasters mitigation plan.
Research on the Consciousness of Disaster Prevention to Analyze Disaster Characteristics of Gangwon Province

The present study surveyed 750 graduate and undergraduate students who were living or not living in Gangwon province concerning the characteristics of disasters in Gangwon province, people's consciousness of disaster prevention, etc. According to the results of analysis, all the respondents thought that the possibility of disasters is higher in Gangwon province(74.0%) than in any other province. Compared to non-residents, Gangwon province residents tended to perceive that the possibility of storm and flood disasters and forest fires is high in Gangwon province. As to reasons for frequent disasters in Gangwon province, the respondents mentioned disadvantageous natural conditions, the shortage of disaster prevention facilities and local residents' low consciousness of disaster prevention. As to methods for enhancing people's consciousness of disaster prevention in Gangwon province, they considered essential the expansion of disaster prevention facilities and education on disaster prevention. In particular, 62.1% of the respondents did not have experiences in disaster education. This suggests the necessity for extending disaster education.
Evaluation of Rutting Performance of Hot Mix Asphalt with Compaction Curve of Gyratory Compactor

For the time being, HMA test specimen were prepared by Marshall Compaction Method for hot mix asphalt design and evaluated the mechanical properties of HMA at the specified air voids. Gyratory Compaction can simulate the field compaction process and measure the degree of compaction just after field compaction in laboratory. Superpave mix design with Gyratory compactor has been used for characterization of performance. The curve of gyratory compaction can be used to evaluate the permanent deformation potential of hot mix asphalt. In this paper, couple of indices for hot mix asphalt have been showed for hot mix asphalt in Korea. The major properties from gyratory compaction curve are compaction energy index and traffic compaction index. The specific guide line for the potential of hot mix asphalt has been proposed.
Calculation of overtopping discharge with time-dependent aspects of an embankment failure

In this study, a time-dependent aspect of an embankment failure is considered to simulate a flood inundation map and calculate overtopping discharge induced by an embankment failure. A numerical model has been developed by solving the two dimensional nonlinear shallow water equations with a finite volume method on unstructured grids. To analyze a Riemann problem, the HLLC approximate Riemann solver and the Weighted Averaged Flux method are employed by using a TVD limiter and the source term treatment is also employed by using the operator splitting method. Firstly, the numerical model is applied to a dam break problem and a sloping seawall. Obtained numerical results show good agreements with experimental data. Secondly, the model is applied to a flow induced by an embankment failure by assuming that the width and elevation of embankment are varied with time-dependent functions. As a result of the comparison with each numerical overtopping discharge, established flood inundation discharges in the previous studies are overestimated than the result of the present numerical model.
