Uncertainty in the Measurement of Radiative Energy Attenuation through Packed Spheres
Journal of the Korean Society of Marine Engineering, volume 15, issue 5, 1991, Pages 23~29
Uncertainty is studied in the measurements of average packing density, thickness of packed spheres and transmittance in the experiments to study the effect of the bed height and the existence of the bed side walls on the transmittance of radiative energy through packed spheres. The packing density of the bed is obtained by counting the number of the spheres packed in three pipes with different heights. The bed height of the packed spheres is estimated from the number of spheres contained in the bed by using the relation between the bed height and the sphere number. The transmittance is obtained by dividing the intensity of the transmitted laser beam by the incoming-beam intensity. From the analysis, the uncertainity in the measurements of transmittance is shown to be less than 10.2%(95% coverage).
An Experimental Study on the Performance Characteristics of Steam Ejector
Journal of the Korean Society of Marine Engineering, volume 15, issue 5, 1991, Pages 30~37
Steam ejector systems are widely used for the evacuation systems because of their high working confidence and simlicity. And recently these are used as the thermo-compressors in various energy saving systems. In this practical experiment, we have obtained the results as follows : (1) The velocity coefficient of the motive steam nozzle was 0.92-0.98. (2) The optimal area ratio was 0.00625 at pressure ratio 5.2 and expansion ratio 101.3. (3) The performance and efficiency of the steam ejector were mainly affected by the axial position of nozzle. (4) The good performance of the domestic manufactured steam ejector was confirmed in comparison with the foreign one. And by experimental results, we have carried out the improvement of Computer Aided Design Program of steam ejector which will be helpful for systematic research into the steam ejector.
A Study on the Development of the Large Building Air-conditioning System with the Regenerative Ice-energy and its Computer Aided Design
Journal of the Korean Society of Marine Engineering, volume 15, issue 5, 1991, Pages 38~46
In the design of an electric power plant, the capacity to meet the peak load demand is one of the important factors to be considered. This peak load usually occurs when the most of the cooling air-conditioning systems are being operated during daytime in summer season. Therefore, it is necessary to construct an additional electric power plant and to develop the new air-conditioning system for relieving the peak load. This paper analysed the performance characteristics of this experimental regenerative ice energy system by means of a bundle of the heat-pipes. And the result of this analysis was applied to the simulation of an air-conditioning system model. Also, an operation program of moisture air was made according to air load and in order to computerize the air-conditioning system a CAD program was developed by the properties of moisture air.
A Study on the Development of Ship's Stern Tube Sealing System(II) -Based on Face Seals-
Journal of the Korean Society of Marine Engineering, volume 15, issue 5, 1991, Pages 47~54
The lip seals widely used nowadays in stern tube sealing system of ships have radial sealing contact with shafts or liners, on the other hand the face seals of stern tube sealing system have axial sealing contact with seat. Because of axial sealing contact, the face seals have a large number of merits such as durability of life, simplicity of structure, easy fitting and replacement, etc. In this paper, for the purpose of development of face seals, the fundamental properties of axial sealing contact were analyzed and a trial face seal was designed and manufactured using N.B.R. rubber and Thordon which is widely used for bearing materials. The seal proper of trial face seal was made from N.B.R. rubber and the face insert was made from Thordon, thermosetting resins which are three dimensional, cross linked condensation polylmers. The performance test of trial face seal was carried out on the test bench which was specially designed and manufactured. The results were satisfactory enough to be used in practical stern tube sealing system.
