A Study on the Speed Control of Electro - hydraulic Servo System under Load Disturbance
Journal of the Korean Society of Marine Engineering, volume 17, issue 1, 1993, Pages 26~32
The loads exerted on electro-hydraulic servo system are classified into inertial, viscous, and spring load. The additional load called disturbances is also exerted on system but is generally not modeled. To deal with these kinds of loads, it is necessary to maintain the continuous signal transfer, so we can construct compensator to satisfy control specifications using feedback signal such as displacement, velocity, acceleration and pressure known as state variables. In case of controlling the speed of hydraulic motor, we must keep up robust performance for the various loads and disturbances acted on the system. However, the load flow rate in the valve is characterized by nonlinearity so that traditional theory of linear control could not be expected to give the desired performance. In this paper, it is shown that speed controller of hydraulic motor gives a good command following and disturbance rejection performance by applying sliding mode theory as a way of robust control to the nonlinearity, variation of loads and disturbances.
Numerical Study on the Active Control of Aerodynamic Properties of 2 - D Square Prism
Journal of the Korean Society of Marine Engineering, volume 17, issue 1, 1993, Pages 33~44
Active control of a flow field is essential to design efficient parts or elements relating to fluid machineries. The present study is aimed to suggest a new discretization technique of the convection term by renewing the non-conservative equation found in SOLA-VOF into a conservative one. And, as an application, flow characteristics are investigated by adjusting the backward ejecting velocity of 2-D square prism to control the aerodynamic properties. Strouhal number, drag and lift coefficient are compared in terms of various ejecting velocity. Among the results, the transient weak fluctuation of the lift and drag coefficient when the ejecting velocity equals channel inlet velocity is remarkably noticed.

A Study on the Protection of the Bare and Painted Steel Plates
Journal of the Korean Society of Marine Engineering, volume 17, issue 1, 1993, Pages 55~65
Galvanic protection method is one the cathodic protection methods and is mostly used for corrosion prevention of heat exchangers and ship's hull. In this paper, it was investigated that how cathodic potential distribution was varied with according to the bare and painted steel plates in case of galvanic anode protection. The results obtained above were as follows. 1. Cathodic potential distribution of a painted steel plate was smoothed than that of the bare steel plate all over the cathodic surface area. 2. It was shown that polarization potential of the bare steel plate was somewhat shifted to negative potential, on the contrary that of the painted steel plate was somewhat shifted from negative potential to positive potential as time gone by beginning of galvanic anode method. 3. The applied current density in order to maintain constant protection potential(-770mv SCE) in the painted steel plate was less than that of the bare steel plate because of the high resistance polarization of the painted steel plate. 4. It was suggested that required number and life-time of anode for galvanic anode protection could be decided easily with corrosion prevention coefficient obtained by experimental data.
A Study on the Brazing Bondinf Conditions of A1050 Using Al-Si Alloy Filler Metal
Journal of the Korean Society of Marine Engineering, volume 17, issue 1, 1993, Pages 66~72
The brazing of Al to Al using Al-Si alloy filler metal was performed under different bonding conditions such as ratio of lap length to plate thickness, surface roughness and joint clearance of the lap joint. The adopted thickness of the base metal in this experiments were two kinds of 4mm and 7mm which were most commonly used in various field. Influence of several bonding conditions of Al/Al joint was quantitavely evaluated by bonding strength test, and microstructural analysis at the interlayer were performed by optical microscope. From above experiments, the optimum bonding conditions of the brazing bonding of Al/Al using Al-Si alloy filler metal was determined. The major results obtained are as follows. 1) The fracture occurs at brazed joint in the conditions of that the ratio of lap length to plate thickness is less than 2 in case of 7mm plate thickness. 2) The ratio of lap length to plate thickness which the fracture occurs at base metal is decreased with the decreasing of the plate thickness. 3) The joint strength is not affected by the surface roughness and joint clearance of the brazed part. 4) The heat-treatment of the brazed joint contribute to eliminate the boundary between the base metal and filler metal. However, the joint strength is not affected by the heat-treatment.
