Turbulent Flow and heat Transfer in the Annular Passage with Repeated-Ribbed Roughness on Both Walls

The fully developed tubulent momentum and heat transfer induced by the square- ribbed roughness elements on both the inner and outer wall surfaces in the concentric annuli are studied analytically based on a modified turbulence model. Heat transfer coefficients for two conditions, i.e, a) inner wall heated as constant heat flux and outer wall insulated b) inner wall insulated and outer wall heated as constant heat flux, are investigated. The analytical results of the fluid flow are verified by experiment. The experiment is done with a pitot tube and a X-type hot wire anemometer to measure the time mean velocity profiles, zero shear stress positions, maximum velocity profiles and friction factors, and etc. The resulting momentum and heat transfer are discussed in terms of various parameters, such as the radius ratio, the relative roughness, the roughness density, Nusselt number and Prandtl number.
Development of Expert System for Diagnosis of Weld Defects

Weld defects degrade the strength and safety of astructure and are resulted from the various cases. The complexity of causal relation of weld defects requires an expert for the analysis of weld defects and the measures counter to them. An expert system has the intelligent functions such as the representation of knowledge and the inference. On this research, weld defect are systematically analysed and their causal model is developed. This information is saved to the knowledge base. The suitable inference algorithm for the diagnosis of weld defects is developed and realized with C++ programming.
Speed Control of a Sensorless BLDC Motor

BLDC motor is widely used as a servo motor, because it has high efficiency, high power ratio, low inertia, and easy maintenance. However, position and speed sensors generally attached in BLDC motor increase motor cost, and limit environments of application. This study describes a sensorless speed control of sinusoidal BLDC motor using the d-q transformed instantaneous voltage equation, and presents the result of computer simulation. The sensorless algorithm is applied to the casse of a voltage controlled PWM inverter. The result indicates good dynamics and a robust control in cases of a load change and a system parameter variation.
A Study on the Position Detection Device for a Hybrid Type Linear Pulse Motor

In recent years, as the electonic industry has become more advanced, the LPM(Linear Pulse Motor) has appeared in a wide range of applications because of easier control, operation by open-loop control, high positioning accuracy, and retrieval of position or velocity data by the input pulses. In this study, we deal with the development of a position detection device attached to a hybrid LPM in our laboratory. Precise position detection signals could be sensed by the synchronous rectifier method from the LPM stator scale. In addition, we can keep the amplitude constant by using an AGC(Automatic Gain Control) circuit. Experimental results show that the position data is good enough to perform the LPM position control.
A Dynamic Decoupling of Two Cooperating Robot System and Stability Analysis

This paper presents a new control scheme for decoupling the dynamics of two coordinating robot manipulators. A simple full-state feedback scheme with configuration dependent gains can be devised to decouple the system dynamics such that the dynamics of each arm and that of an object held by the two arms is independent of one another. A condition for stability is shown. The advantage of the proposed scheme is that the same control scheme can be applied both for the closed kinematic chain(object-grasping) case and open kinematic chain(no object-grasping) case.
Shape offectting using the geometric properties of B -spline curve(1) -A Study on offsetting of B-spline control polygon-

In manufacturing of exact products, the offsetting is required to transfer the design data of shape to manufacturing data. In offsetting the degeneracies are occurred, and these problems are mere difficult in freeform shapr manufacuring. This paper is using the geometric properties of B-spline curves to solve the degeneracy of offsetting and to generating of enhanced offsetting. The offsetting of B-spline control polygon spans generates exact control polygon of original shapes. This method is faster in generating offset curve than the normal offsetting, and the resulted offset curves are exact. The additional property of this method is using to control offset shape as B-spline curves. We believe that this method is as effective solution for modifying of offset curves.
Analysis of Magnetic Circuit and Static Thrust of a Double-sided Linear Pulse Motor

In this paper, the characteristics of a double-sided linear pulse motor (DLPM) with permanent magnet are analysed using the method which combined the coenergy method and the equivalent magnetic circuit method. In the process of computation, the magnetic material nonlinealities of the permanent magnet, the primary and the secondary core are interpolated by the cubic spline method. Then, the equivalent magnetic circuit modelled by the permeance method including airgap reluctance, which is a function of displacement, is obtained. The static thrust which is the derivative of coenergy is computed by Newton Raphson method at each dispacement. And, in order to investigate the characteristics of the DLPM, the thrust shows as a function of displacement, input current and air gap. The simulation resuls are compared with experimental ones obtained from the DLPM with 2 phase and 4 poles.
A Study on the Vibration Characteristics of Collecting Plate in the Electrostatic Precipitator Using Holograpy

In this study, the characteristics of generation and propagarion of transient wave induced in the assembly of four collecting plate upon the propagation of waves are analyzed. Also double exposure holographic inteferometry using ruby pulse laser is built in order to investigate the propagation of transient waves generated by impact load. When impact load was applied at edge of connecting band, the vibration of collecting plates was generated from the contact points between collecting plate and band which connects four collecting plates. Waves generated from the lower part and those reflected from the upper part were mixed as time went on and then formed very complex shapes. Also, when impact load was aplied at center of collecting plate, the waves propagating across the convexo-concave plane were reflected partly at curved section. Therefore the vibration amplitude was decreased as the transiet waves were propagated through the convexo-concave plane.
