Temperature Distributions of Inner Microwave for Various Working Conditions

Microwave oven and household cooker are devices of high voltage producer and high voltage storage batteries respectively for formation of necessary high frequencies at drive. These devices emit much heat energy because they are run at high voltages. Therefore, emitted heat energy becomes a factor that raises temperature of microwave ovens' main frame. In this research, the analysis shows the temperature distribution in microwave oven with the cooling fan drive conditions and the heat energy occurrence conditions. According to the analysis, as the speed of air outpoured in cooling fan increases, and the internal temperature decreases quantitatively. Also the inside temperature distribution was investigated by controlling heat energy emission.
Heat Transfer Characteristics of Plate-fin Heat Exchanger Using LNG FPSO Liquefaction Process

There are no domestic researches of plate fin heat exchanger in the field of cryogenic such as LNG FPSO liquefaction plant. In this study, condensing heat transfer characteristics of nitrogen according to three kinds of fin type in the plate fin heat exchanger were analyzed through simulation and experiment to secure independent technologies. In the simulation, nitrogen was condensed at 69bar and
in serrated and wavy fin of plate-fin heat exchanger. The serrated fin shows the highest value of local heat transfer coefficient, followed by wavy and plain fin. The experimental results were shown errors less than 12% comparing with the simulation results.
An Investigation on the Characteristics of Gear Trains of Wind turbines

Gear trains are combined with the planetary gear units and helical gear units. It is known that the combination type is decisive to the system performances of the transmissions. In this paper, within the commonly used range of the design requirements for medium and large scaled (1~8 MW) wind turbines, the transmission characteristics of the typical layouts of the gear train are investigated. According to the international standard by ANSI/AGMA/AWEA 6006-A03, the gear boxes are basically designed and compared with respect to the system lifes of 99% reliability, total weight, the power densities, overall diameter/length and the maximum stresses of the gear teeth. With these comparison works, the characteristics of the layouts of gear trains are discussed.
A Study on the Protecting Wall for Transferring Pipe of Waste Using Cast Basalt Tube

The forces applying to an object in the transferring pipe of waste are analyzed and the equation of motion is established in this paper. It is shown that the equation of motion becomes the 1st order non-linear differential equation. Using its general solution, the velocity of the object in the transferring pipe of waste can be expressed in the explicit form. Noting that the velocity of object is impact velocity to the elbow or curved part of the transferring pipe of waste, the kinetic energy of the object can be calculated and the necessary impact strength of inner wall is obtained. The velocity of object is also calculated and presented in the graphic forms with the condition of air velocity 30m/sec. The impact test of cast basalt tube is carried out by the free fall of a weight and the test results show that the impact strength of the cast basalt tube is sufficient to apply to protecting inner wall of the transferring pipe of waste.
A Study on Flow Characteristics of Polluted Air in Rectangular Tunnel Models Using a PIV System

The objective of this study is to investigate flow behaviors of polluted air in order to prevent the impact of disaster in a tunnel. This paper presents the experimental results qualitatively in terms of flow characteristics in two kinds of rectangular tunnel models in which each distance from the centerline above the inlet vent to the exhaust vent is 0 and 60 mm, respectively. and the inlet vent velocity of 1.1 m/s with the kinematic viscosity of air. The aspect ratio of the model test section is 10. The average velocity vectors, streamlines, and vorticity distributions are measured and analyzed by the Flow Manager in a particle image velocimetry(PIV) system. The PIV technology gives three different velocity distributions according to observational points of view for understanding the polluted air flow characteristics. The maximum value of mean velocity generally occurs in the inlet and outlet vent regions in the tunnel models.
An Experimental Study on the Smoke Reduction System of the Exhaust Gas Suction Type

Over the past years, many research works have been carried out to investigate the factors which govern the performance of diesel engine. The air pollutant emission from the diesel engine is still a significant environmental concern in many countries. In the present study, new system of smoke reduction of diesel engine is proposed. This new system is using vacuum equipment for capture smoke. To confirm new system experiments were performed at engine dynamometer. As a result of this experiment, the smoke reduction of this system was identified.
A Short Wavelength Transmission Line Employing Periodically Arrayed Capacitive Devices on MMIC

In this paper, short-wavelength transmission line employing periodically arrayed capacitive devices (PACD) structures were developed for application to a development of miniaturized on-chip passive components on GaAs monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC). The transmission line employing PACD structure showed a wavelength much shorter than conventional microstrip line. Concretely, the wavelength of the transmission line employing PACD structure was 8 % of the conventional microstrip line on GaAs substrate at 5GHz. And It was 38% of the microstrip line employing PPGM at 5GHz. It was recognized that the basic characteristics of the transmission line employing PACD structure were investigated for application to the miniaturized passive on-chip components.
A Study on the Liquid-level Sensors Using Splitting Ratio of Fiber-optic Directional Couplers

A liquid-air interface sensing system using the flat end surfaces of a fused-silica fiber coupler has been demonstrated. The principle is based on the additional optical loss caused by changing the refractive index of the external material at the boundary of the end face made of a fiber. The immersion characteristics of this system with respect to the different splitting ratios of the couplers were investigated to determine the sensitivity when it responses to water and air. These experimental data are very useful for selecting the coupling ratio of a coupler in order to develop a multiple sensing probe system. In the proposed sensor structure, it can be emphasize that the sensing probe can be appropriately arrayed on the basis of splitting ratio of the coupler. As a result, it is expected that the proposed liquid-air interface sensors can also be applied to monitor flooding that occurs in multiple areas at the same time.
A Study on the Duplex Wireless Communications Using LED Lighting

In this paper, we proposed and demonstrated an indoor visible-light communication system using an array of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The main idea is based on that the LEDs can be used not only for lighting but also for free-space optical communications. Because LEDs offer advantageous properties such as high brightness, reliability, lower power consumption and long lifetime, the indoor visible-light communication systems are going to provide high quality of service by the high radiation power of the LED lighting. Prototype of simplex channel for audio and the full-duplex channel for text message were developed. Results indicates the viability of creating inexpensive free-space optical communication transceivers that might be embedded in commercial light products to supports indoor wireless networking.
Enhancement of H.264/AVC Encoding Speed and Reduction of CPU Load through Parallel Programming Based on CUDA

In order to enhance encoding speed in dynamic image encoding using H.264/AVC, reducing the time for motion estimation which takes a large portion of the processing time is very important. An approach using graphics processing unit(GPU) as a coprocessor to assist the central processing unit(CPU) in computing massive data, will be a way to reduce the processing time. In this paper, we present an efficient block-level parallel algorithm for the motion estimation(ME) on a computer unified device architecture(CUDA) platform developed in general-purpose computation on GPU. Experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
Air detector using the change of dielectric constant for medical applications

Air embolism can be a lethal complication of surgical procedures during which venous pressure at the site of surgery is sub-atmospheric or air is forced under pressure into a body cavity. To solve the problem, we developed the air detector using relative dielectric constant change, which is expected to be used broadly in industrial circles. We designed air detection system with air control equipment, detection circuit and LabVIEW system for air sensing. In experiments with a mock system, the proposed system showed a signal difference depending on the amount of air in the Tygon tube of the mock system.
Feature Weighting for Opinion Classification of Comments on News Articles

In this paper, we present a system that classifies comments on a news article into a user opinion called a polarity (positive or negative). The system is a kind of document classification system for comments and is based on machine learning techniques like support vector machine. Unlike normal documents, comments have their body that can influence classifying their opinions as polarities. In this paper, we propose a feature weighting scheme using such characteristics of comments and several resources for opinion classification. Through our experiments, the weighting scheme have turned out to be useful for opinion classification in comments on Korean news articles. Also Korean character n-grams (bigram or trigram) have been revealed to be helpful for opinion classification in comments including lots of Internet words or typos. In the future, we will apply this scheme to opinion analysis of comments of product reviews as well as news articles.
A Study on the Development of an Energy Saving Ballast Water Treatment Device (I)

In this paper, we studied the application of low pressure ultra-violet (UV) lamps for the development of an energy saving ship's ballast water treat (BWT) device. We proposed the optimal arrangement of UV lamps by analyzing the energy radiated from medium- and low-pressure UV lamps. Based on the experimental results, we manufactured a disinfection chamber which is composed of low-pressure UV lamps. The rated power and the treatment capacity of the chamber are 216 [W] and 10 [
/h], respectively. This can replace a disinfection chamber treated by two 2 [kW] medium pressure lamps. The disinfection performance, however the power consumption is about one-eighteen compare to the medium pressure UV lamp, is over 94 [%] for bacteria, 93 [%] for zooplankton, and 94 [%] for phytoplankton. Therefore, it would be possible to develop an energy saving BWT device in a low capacity below 100 [
A practical modelling design of 3 phase induction motors for configuring engine room simulators

Modelling methods of 3 phase induction motors dependant on a lot of parameters give much drawbacks and difficulties when making engine room simulators due to computation burden and the time required for acquiring detailed technical data corresponding to actual induction motors. This paper suggests a practical method by a equivalent circuit with minimized parameters and some formulas to configure induction motors which requires only data on the name plates of motors, while it revealed satisfactory modelling performances on the resultant curves which are plotted for the torque, load current and power consume according to slip variation.
A Suitability Selection for Marine Afforestation Using Habitat Evaluation Procedure

A habitat evaluation method was used to estimate the optimum suitability of the study area for the target algae. Habitat evaluation was carried out using an habitat evaluation procedure (HEP) so that the optimum suitability was quantitatively estimated for carrying out marine afforestation in the study area. According to the results of the suitability analysis, the variation of light and wave conditions according to depth showed the factors with the largest impact to involve the spatial distribution of suitable locations within the area. The total suitable area selected was calculated to be 18ha. The quality of the target algae (Ecklonia cava Kjellman) habitat was analyzed using an habitat suitability index (HSI) model of the HEP, which showed 0.55-0.907 (the maximum value being 1.0). This indicated that artificial reefs for afforestation should be installed to zonation type because the suitable area selected (The HSI value was 0.55~0.907) was distributed within the same depth line.
A Study on Muti-Level Type Charging Technique for Ocean Facility

Recently, lots of researches are carried out to develop hybrid power generation system for ocean facility. Normally, the stand-alone type power system is used in the ocean facility, which is influenced by weather condition. To improve the efficiency, a various charging strategy with switching algorithm has been studied. In this paper, the power system using multi-level type is proposed. The simulation results based on actual data of photovoltaic and wave hybrid power system are presented. The results show that the rate of charging time is increased 5~11% and 7~47% respectively to compare the conventional technique.
A Study on Subsidence of Soft Ground Using Artificial Neural Network

When industrial structures are constructed on soft ground, ground subsidence is occurred by problems of bearing capacity. To protect ground subsidence have to improve soft ground, and have to predict settlement estimation for reasonable construction. Artificial Neural Networks(ANN) is adopted for prediction of settlement of construction during the initial design. In the study, Artificial Neural Networks are applied to predict the settlement estimation of initial condition ground and ground improved by D.C.M method. Also, this study compares results of Artificial Neural Networks and results of continuum analysis using Mohr-Coulomb models. In result, settlements of initial condition ground decreased over 0.7 times. Also, by comparing ANN and continuum analysis, coefficient of determination was comparatively high value 0.79. Thought this study, it was confirmed that settlements of improvement ground is predicted using laboratory experiment data.
A Numerical Estimation on Extension of Marine Afforestation Area using Particle Tracking Method

To arrange artificial reefs for marine afforestation effectively, tidal currents were analyzed by numerical experiments, and particle tracking based on tidal currents was carried out to clarify the path of algae spores. The experiments were conducted by the Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC), and water column was vertically divided into five layers. Tidal current patterns were showed to be affected by main currents outside of the study area, and two circle currents were observed during the analysis of residual currents. Particle tracking lasted 15 days at three installation places where artificial reefs for marine afforestation could be deployed. According to the results of the particle tracking experiment, particle movements at the No.1 and No. 3 stations were belt types along the coastal line. The No. 2 station documented an ellipse type movement 300~500m from coast line. These results suggest that artificial reefs for marine afforestation should be installed in the belt zones at of the No. 1 and No. 3 stations, and in the ellipse zone at the No. 2 station.
