An Experimental Study on Measurement of Flow Coefficient Using the Steady-Flow Test Rig

Miller cycle is considered as an effective means to meet the regulation on Tier II and to reduce
emission. For this cycle, the amount of intake air supplied should be enough increased. Therefore, the intake system with minimized resistance for air flow is under consideration. In this study, the flow coefficients of intake valves were measured in order to obtain the basic data for the cycle simulation and intake port design. The flow coefficients were measured using the steady-flow test rig. As a test result for the poppet valve used the marine engine with medium speed, the flow coefficients are increased to about 0.62 with the valve lift. In addition it is confirmed that the flow coefficients have the characteristic value irrelevant to the S/B ratio.
A Study on Battery Performance of a Motor Driven Local Transportation Vehicle

This study was conducted to measure battery's voltage drop in a compact electric vehicle to get driving performance in various driving situations. In the experiment, to evaluate the energy consumption and milage, system performance have measured with changing of the driving speed and the reduction of driving distance when the heater was operating. The battery of the car in this study is lead type storage battery. The driving velocity was changed from 10km/h to 50 km/h with 20km/h intervals and the operating step of the heating device. As results, the electronic consumption rate was maximum at 35 km/h of vehicle speed and if the driver turning the heater at maximum, capacity will lead to 35% of energy consumption increment.
Performance characteristics of the Coil Deposition Type Heat Pump using Geothermal Energy

This paper describes the experimental characteristics on cooling and heating performance of the coil deposition type heat pump using geothermal energy to optimize the design for the operating parameters of this system. The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooling degree, evaporation and condensation temperature in the coil deposition type heat pump using geothermal energy. The main results are summarized as follows : As the evaporation temperature and subcooling degree of the coil deposition type heat pump using geothermal energy increases, and the condensation temperature decreases, the COP of this system increases. The subcooling degree, evaporation and condensation temperature of the coil deposition type heat pump have an effect on cooling and heating COP of this heat pump. Therefore, it is a necessary to determine the optimum operation conditions for the highest COP of this heat pump presented in this study.
An Experimental Study on Performance of Energy Recovery Ventilation System

At the limited space, the air conditioning may have difficult to control temperature or humidity for home use. Nowdays, the people reponse to temperature or humidity sensitively. This becomes the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is an important factor for comfortably. Heat recovery ventilator (HRV) is used for the solution of inconsistency between IAQ and power-saving. Also, the thermoelectric element is applied to HRV and compared with temperature efficiency and verifying the capacity of the system. To improve the temperature efficiency a single motor and thermoelectric element with the conductive guide vane is experimented. The results shows that it can save 23 W by using the single motor. The developed system of 250 CMH capacities with the thermoelectric element reveals the temperature efficiency improvement of 4.01% in cooling period and 2.98% in heating period compared to the conventional system.
Study of Design for Convertible ROV

In this paper, the design study of a new convertible six d.o.f underwater robot which can be a ROV or AUV according to underwater work purpose is presented. A structure design about the ROV and the AUV and its design on the control system is presented. In case of the AUV, an analysis on thruster forces in accordance with operating speed has been performed. A sensor fusion board which can proceed various sensor signals to identify correct positions and speeds has been developed and a total control system including EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) has been designed and developed.
Correction of TDC Position for Engine Output Measuring in Marine Diesel Engines

The accurate engine output is basically one of important factors for the analysis of engine performance. Nowadays in-cylinder pressure analysis in internal combustion engine is also an indispensable tool for engine research and development, environment regulation and maintenance of engine. Here, it is essential more than anything else to find the correct TDC(Top Dead Center) position for the accuracy of engine output for diesel engine. Therefore this study is to analyze affecting factors to TDC position in 2-stroke large low speed engine and to suggest new method for determining correct TDC position. In the previous paper, it was mentioned that the accuracy of engine output is influenced by the determination of exact TDC position, and that 'Angle based sampling' method is better than 'Time based sampling' method in terms of precision. It was confirmed that there is 'Loss of angle', which is a difference between compression pressure peak and real TDC caused by heat loss and blow by of gas leakage. Consequently we invented new method, called "An improved method of time based sampling", which can obtain the correct engine output. The results by this method with compensating loss of angle was shown the same result by the 'Angle based sampling' method in encoder setting cylinder. This study is to suggest the new measuring method of exact engine output, and to examnine the reliance on the outcome.
Structure Analysis of an Exoskeleton with a Torsion Bar Gravity Compensator

In this paper, a technical method of reducing torque load of exoskeleton device, with using of a gravity compensator based on a torsion bar, for human leg joints, is proposed. Design and structure analyses and also performance test were performed to estimate and to measure the characteristics of the torsion bar. On the basis of design and structure analysis, a new light and compact exoskeleton device has been developed. For the purpose of lightening and optimizing thickness of the links, FEM analysis has been performed.

This paper introduces the method for efficiency improvement of 5HP electric thrusting system for outboard motor. The most efficient model of motor and propeller is suggested and verifying its performance through the prototype model. Also, We show improvement of 20% compared to existing system through the equipped test.
Exhaust Emission Characteristics from Heavy-duty Diesel Engine applicable to Prime Propulsion Engine for Marine Vessels

The objective of this work presented here was focused on analysis of particulate matter and nitrogen oxide characteristics in ESC test mode from heavy-duty diesel engine installed on-road vehicles applicable to prime propulsion engine for marine vessels. The authors confirmed that a large quantity particulate matter were emitted in high power density condition, nitrogen oxide characteristics were dependent on exhaust gas temperature. Particulate matters were reduced by 1/100~1/1,000 times in post DPF with test modes but filtration efficiency was decreased in the engine power fluctuation. In the case of the high speed and power condition, the exhaust level of particulate matters was increased according to increment of temperature of gas flowing into DPF. The orders of magnitude for particle concentration levels from the analysis of size distribution of particulate matters of test engine was different. Both emitting nano-sized particles below 100nm regardless of DPF and non-DPF.
Method for Determining Thickness of Rubber Fenders of a Tripod Type Offshore Wind Turbine Substructure

The main object of this research is to minimize the shock effects which frequently result in fatal damage in offshore wind turbine on impact of barge. The collision between offshore wind turbine and barge is generally a complex problem and it is often impractical to perform rigorous finite element analyses to include all effects and sequences during the collision. On applying the impact force of a barge to the offshore wind turbine, the maximum acceleration, internal energy, and plastic strain are calculated for each load case using the finite element method. A parametric study is conducted with the experimental data in terms of the velocity of barge, thickness of the offshore wind turbine, and thickness and Mooney-Rivlin coefficient of the rubber fender. Through the analysis proposed in this study, it is possible to determine the proper size and material properties of the rubber fender and the optimal moving conditions of barge.
Shape Optimization of S-tube for Heat Exchanger Used in High Temperature Environment Using FE Analysis and DOE

The aim of this study was to optimize S-tube shape of heat exchanger in term of reducing the size of tube bundle and improving the mechanical properties such as the thermal stress and resonance. The geometric parameters such as offset length, the straight distance between one end and other end of tube, the tube length in straight portion and fillet radius was assessed as a valid parameters. The structural analysis was performed to estimate the structural characteristics. Main effect analysis was performed to investigate the main effect for the various geometric parameters. The response surface methodology was employed to establish mathematical approximation models as a function of the geometric parameters of the S-tube. Also, The optimization was performed to optimize geometric parameters of S-tube using the regression equations and optimization tool. The optimized tube shape has been proposed. Those could be used in the heat exchanger design used in high temperature.
Implementation of Precise Level Measurement Device using Zoom FFT

In this paper, level instrument is implemented using beat frequency for distance measurement which means the difference between Tx and Rx signal frequency from FMCW Radar Level Transmitter. Beat frequency is analyzed through Fast Fourier Transform of which frequency precision can be improved by applying Zoom FFT. Distance precision is improved from 146.5[mm] to 5[mm] using the advantage of Zoom FFT which can raise the frequency precision without changing the sampling frequency or FFT point number to be fixed in the beginning of designing signal processing. Also, measurement error can be reduced within 2[mm] by incresing the FFT points using the method of Spline interpolation. An Indoor Pose Estimation System Based on Recognition of Circular Ring Patterns

This paper proposes a 3-D pose (positions and orientations) estimation system based on the recognition of circular ring patterns. To deal with monocular vision-based pose estimation problem, we specially design a circular ring pattern that has a simplicity merit in view of object recognition. A pose estimation procedure is described in detail, which utilizes the geometric transformation of a circular ring pattern in 2-D perspective projection space. The proposed method is evaluated through the analysis of accuracy and precision with respect to 3-D pose estimation of a quadrotor-type vehicle in 3-D space.
An Analysis of Radio Interference in 800 MHz-Band from Japan

Along with the increase of demand of radio communication and with the rapid progress of communication systems, the radio frequency interference of neighbor nations is a matter of argue. This problem is a delicate matter which must be dealt with technical background. The radio interference has been experienced in the Korean TRS service on the south seashore due to the seashore base station in Japan. The radio interference problem between neighbor nations has become the matter of conflict. For the purpose to solve this problem, we has measured the radio waves that come from Japan mainly to Korea and also analyzed the radio interference.
A Study on the Protection and Measuring Algorithm of IED in Load Condition

Recently, in power system, even though the needs of protective IED(Intelligent Electronic Device) is highly increased, there are some problems in the field when use the IED. When the IED is in the fluctuated overload condition, because of the existing algorithm calculate the trip time only with the measured current of just previous measuring stage, the calculated trip time is not a proper value for the overload protection at this kind of condition, and when the load current fluctuate between overload and normal condition, because of the instantaneous reset characteristic of existing algorithm the IED dose not trip. And the non linear loads using power electronic elements seem to be increased. These non linear loads require a counterplan about various harmonics incoming to electric power systems. So we will give solutions about these problems.
