Numerical Study for the Influence of Environment Temperature on Offshore Arctic Pipeline and Impingement Erosion Analysis by using Thermal Flow Simulation

This paper describes thermal flow characteristic in various pipelines: straight pipeline and curved pipeline. In the Arctic and ocean area, pipelines are exposed to a extremely low temperature (
). In this situation, three-dimensional flow analysis should be analyzed to investigate thermal effects such as pressure drop, temperature change, velocity deficit and distribution change of liquid droplet of internal fluid. Also, due to freezing of water droplet, impingement erosion is expected in the curved pipeline. The stability of the pipelines can be influenced by impingement erosion. In this paper, multi-phase and multi-species analysis was introduced to analyze the flow characteristics and impingement erosion of Arctic and ocean pipelines.
A Development of Methodology for NOVEC Gas Fire Extinguishing System

The most important thing for NOVEC gas fire extinguishing equipment is to release NOVEC gas, which contained in the extinguishing container, to the safety section by the time appointed. For this matter, it is significant to decide arrangement and size of the proper piping equipment. This study has developed the design methodology of NOVEC gas fire extinguishing equipment in use of pipe network analysis techniques. Based on the design methodology, each design coefficient is chosen. It is found that the calculated result, which is 6.498 seconds, has been counted within the 10 seconds limit, which is fairly satisfied with extinguishing releasing time based on the developed methodology. At that time, the pressure loss is 21.09bar.
A Study of the Life Test of Hydraulic Pump Driving Gear Box for the Large Excavator

Large hydraulic excavator weighted 90 tons used the several pumps installed in parallel to use the hydraulic pump driving gearbox to improve fuel consumption by improving the energy efficiency of the hydraulic system. Gearbox connected to hydraulic pump supply the mechanical output to the high pressure and low pressure pump to be supplied by torque and rotation, which are the mechanical power, through a input shaft connected to large size engine of the excavator. So, gearbox connected to hydraulic pump is same as main artery in the human body and is required long life because it operates the hydraulic pump continuously during operating the engine. This study had used oil contamination analysis method to check the wear characteristics of the gearbox and frequency response characteristic analysis method to check the failure of the teeth failures of gearbox, while the test equipment adopted by the electrical feedback method to reduce the energy consumption was operating for the life assessment, in which the required power was 600 kW input power.
The Effect of Spray Flow Rate, Aspect Ratio, and Filling Rate of Wet Scrubber on Smoke Reduction

There has been increased amount of atmospheric pollutants including NOx and SOx which cause acid rain and photochemical smog as a result of increased use of fossil fuels. In order to reduce the amount of pollutants produced by fossil fuel, wet scrubber system is introduced in this experiment. Wet scrubber system is applied to a diesel engine (3,298 cc) and the amount of smoke is measured before and after the application in terms of aspect ratio, filling rate, and flow rate. The result showed a lot of smoke reduction when wet scrubber system was applied, and also the aspect ratios and water spray flow rate were the important factors to improve smoke reduction.
Improvement of Anti-Corrosion Characteristics for Light Metal in Surface Modification with Sulfuric Acid Solution Condition

Surface modification is a technology to form a new surface layer and overcome the intrinsic properties of the base material by applying thermal energy or stress onto the surface of the material. The purpose of this technique is to achieve anti-corrosion, beautiful appearance, wear resistance, insulation and conductance for base materials. Surface modification techniques may include plating, chemical conversion treatment, painting, lining and surface hardening. Among which, a surface modification process using electrolytes has been investigated for a long time in connection with research on its industrial application. The technology is highly favoured by various fields because it provides not only high productivity and cost reduction opportunities, but also application availability for components with complex geometry. In this study, an electrochemical experiment was performed on the surface of 5083-O Al alloy to determine an optimal electrolyte temperature, which produces surface with excellent corrosion resistance under marine environment than the initial surface. The experiment result, the modified surface presented a significantly lower corrosion current density with increasing electrolyte temperature, except for
of electrolyte temperature at which premature pores was created.
A Study on the Performance Evaluation of the Welded Joint to Maintain the Quality of the Tandem GMAW

To improve productivity and improve the welding process, we have studied the automated system of the weld by applying a tandem welding. Then, the speed of the welding process is improved, production of industries is increasing. Productivity of the industrial sector has increased the application of tandem welding for automated system of welding. But quality assurance for the product take place welding defects in the welding process because the speed of the process is increased. Definitive research solutions an dit`s actuality, however, there is insufficient. Accordingly, it is a situation that the performance of the weld to ensure quality of the weld is required urgently after the welding process. Comparing and analyzing the results of passing each experiment of the two-electrode welding and the welding electrode1, a study attempted to quality assurance of the welded joint portion.

A steam jet vacuum system that will be implemented in a multi-effect desalination plant is numerically investigated. The objective of this study is to numerically investigate the performance characteristic of the steam jet vacuum system for the sea water distillation process. The effects of design parameter such as nozzle size and converging duct angle are discussed in order to get a better understanding of flow characteristics inside the steam ejector and subsequently pave the way for more optimum designs. The simulation results have been in good agreement with experimental data and have well reproduced the shock train phenomena of the throat region.

There has been no previous study on technology development of large capacity drainage pump for rescue sinking ship in the country. The agricultural drainage pump was widely used for rescue sinking ship but this pump has several problems such as efficiency, low displacement and malfunction in winter. Therefore, this paper proposes to solve the problems for swiftly rescue sinking ship and develops the drainage pump system that has
mass flow rate specification at suction head 8 m. The centrifugal pump type the most commonly used in the field of naval architecture and ocean engineering was selected and designed based on the requirement specification. The blade design of impeller was derived from the Stepanoff coefficient and requirement specification and used computational fluid dynamics to review the target mass flow rate according to the impeller RPM at design operating conditions. We also performed structure analysis of the impeller to find structurally vulnerable points for the pump in service and completed the theoretical design of drainage pump system.

A support system which allows operator to check the condition of a vessel and to warn the sea risk in order to prevent accidents of leisure boats, is required. Therefore, this paper proposes a navigational safety support system to ensure the safety of vessels by monitoring and managing the status of those ships. In developing a system process, each developed equipment is integrated and verified whether the functional, compositional and operational algorithms are working properly according to the designed object.

Recently many countries are researching actively underwater sensor networks for securing ocean resources and changes of ocean environment in all over the world. Current the commercial modem are not suitable because it has characteristics of long distance, higher price, larger power consumption with the special object mainly. In this paper, a low power and compact underwater communication modem which is suitable for underwater sensor networks is implemented. It is comprised by using a simple analog circuit for non-coherent BFSK modulation method, ultra low power MCU and orthogonal codes with a less operation and a simple implementation. It was experimented an underwater communication using our modem in a water tank and open sea farms. It communicates fewer than
bit error rate.
Sentiment Analysis System Using Stanford Sentiment Treebank

The main goal of this research is to build a sentiment analysis system which automatically determines user opinions of the Stanford Sentiment Treebank in terms of three sentiments such as positive, negative, and neutral. Firstly, sentiment sentences are POS tagged and parsed to dependency structures. All nodes of the Treebank and their polarities are automatically extracted from the Treebank. We train two Support Vector Machines models. One is for a node level classification and the other is for a sentence level. We have tried various type of features such as word lexicons, POS tags, Sentiment lexicons, head-modifier relations, and sibling relations. Though we acquired 74.2% in accuracy on the test set for 3 class node level classification and 67.0% for 3 class sentence level classification, our experimental results for 2 class classification are comparable to those of the state of art system using the same corpus.
Transceiver Design Method for Finitely Large Numbers of Antenna Systems

We consider a linear transceiver design method for multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) downlink channels where a base station (BS) equipped with a finitely large number of antennas. Although a matched-filter precoder is a capacity-achieving method in massive MIMO downlink systems, it cannot guarantee to achieve the multi-user MIMO capacity in a finitely large number of antennas due to inter-user interferences. In this paper, we propose a two-stage precoder design method that maximizes the sum-rate of cell-edge users when the BS equipped with a finitely large number of antennas. At the first stage, a matched-filter precoder is adopted to exploit both beamforming gain and the reduction of the dimension of effective channels. Then, we derive the second stage precoder that maximizes the sum-rate by minimizing the weighted mean square error (WMSE). From simulation and analysis, we verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
The Output Characteristics of Low Repetition·High Power Nd:YAG Laser Using LLC Resonant Converter

LLC resonant converter is used to control laser output power in Nd:YAG laser. Zero voltage switching (ZVS) is implemented to minimize the switching loss which is adopting the LLC resonant converter. In the spot welding processing of metal thin films, the processing quality is decided by the laser beam output energy of single pulse. We decide to the 50 [J] as the single pulse laser beam energy. Laser output power is investigated and experimented by changing the output current. That current is controled by the charging voltage of capacitor. From those results, we obtained the maximum laser output of 58.2 [J] and the conversion efficiency of 2.52% at the discharge voltage of 620V and the discharge current of 861 [A] and the pulse repetition rate of 1 [Hz] at the charging capacitor of 12,000 [
Development of Bypass Unit for Ship Area Network Based on Legacy-line Communication

In this paper, we reported the bypass unit for ship area networks in order to detour the communication failure regions and poor communication links. The device was composed of three parts of circuits for power cut-off, protection, and coupling transformer. Since the coupling transformer exerts a dominant influence on the performance of the by-pass unit, we have tried to find the optimal magnetic core materials and its dimensions. The prototype was passed through the performance test of insertion loss, temperature, and vibration characteristics. The insertion loss was around -2 dB in the range of 90 kHz ~ 30 MHz and the average communication speed was 59.2 Mbps in the laboratory. A pilot communication test using the developed tool was conducted in the training ship of the Korea Maritime and Ocean University. As a results of experiment, we showed that the wired communication among the heterogeneous-links in the ship area networks are possible by the bypass unit and also a high speed communication services are available in ~ Mbps by using a power-line.
Design of Excitation Control System of Synchronous Generator on Board Ships

This paper provides experimental results of an excitation control system of the synchronous generator on board ships in accordance with rules of classification society to make sure its performance. The experiment compares and reviews control results between PID control and fuzzy logic control applied to change of loads of the generator in order to make sure to satisfy the rules of classification society. Both of them are written by Labview program. In case of PID Control, this paper firstly adjusts the gains by ultimate sensitive method and the gains is more tuned by engineer`s experience. And the fuzzy logic controller uses Mamdani method to make membership function for error between reference voltage and measuring voltage, differential error rate and output voltage. This paper is to make sure the experimental results of the proposed excitation control system applied to actual small synchronous generator with PID control and fuzzy logic written by using Labview program and it is proved on stability and improvement through experiments.
Improvement of Citadel Structure on Board Ship Using FDS

Recently, vessel hijacking by pirates has been a big issue around the world. In case of the hostages of M/V "SAMHO Jewelry" on January 20, 2011, the Korean Navy has rescued 21 seafarers by first naval operation with somalia pirates since establishment of the Navy. Also, in case of the "HANJIN Tianjin", all crews evacuated to the Citadel promptly when being attacking by pirates and were safely rescued by the navy. By the accident, Necessity of Citadel for seafarer on board ship came to the fore against pirates. Taking in account increasing pirates accident at sea, many research relating to pirates has been implementing with a view to responding to them so far. By amending the ship facility regulation in the domestic law on Jan. 2011, the installment of Citadel on board ship became mandatory for ocean going vessel serving pirates area. Hence, this paper provides new model of Citadel structure based on an Fire Dynamic simulation in order to improve personal safety in case of vessel hijacking.
A Study on the Improvement of Survival Rate of the Passengers and Crews according to FDS Analysis

Seafarers can confront to evacuate from the ship with many reasons such as collision, grounding and fire accident. It believes that evacuation time from ship is very important element in order to increase survival rate in the contingency circumstance, however narrow and complex structure of ship is one of obstacle element against prompt evacuation. Taking into consideration the unique structure of ship compared to the structure of other facilities, speed of fire propagation on board ship is faster than the same size of other type facilities. Therefore, measures to prompt evacuation are required. But it comes with the behavioral constraints of the crews and passengers of the nature of operating in a complex structure with narrow vessels. Therefore, in this study, we propose a formula to be analyzed by theoretical approach and simulation methods to improve the survival rate for the crew and passenger of the ship through the ship`s structural modification. We analyzed the temperature rise and visibility which are the most influential effects on the life safety in the event of fire by using a three-dimensional analysis of sight-only program Fire Dynamic Simulator (FDS) as analytical tools.
A Basic Study on Establishment of Sea Trial Prohibition Waterway Based on Marine Traffic Survey

Korea has very strong shipbuilding industry in the world, so many new ships are constructed in Korean shipyards. These built vessels are carrying out sea trial at sea before delivering to shipowner, and sea trial ships cause navigation risk to other passing vessels to accomplish sea trial tests as quick turning, zigzag maneuvering and crash astern etc. in traffic congestion conditions. It occurred more than 1 collision accident related sea trial for recent 5 years. It has been increased about 30% of risk because of navigation of sea trial vessel by marine traffic flow simulation. This paper analyzed marine traffic density surveyed by AIS data for 7 days, and investigated position of marine accidents for 5 years in Korean coastal waterway, it established the sea trial prohibition areas as 10/100 level of total marine traffic volume, which is considered no danger for ship operator. This analyzed maritime safety law for setting of the prohibition waters to propose the basic legal system. It makes contribution to marine pollution prevention by setting of the sea trial prohibition water to improve the ship`s navigation safety.
Monitoring of Tidal Sand Shoal with a Camera Monitoring System and its Morphologic Change

A tidal sandshoal, called `Puldeung` in the Daeijackdo Marine Protected Area(DMPA), is facing erosion due to sand mining in the nearby coastal region. To monitor the morphologic change and erosion of Puldeung, a camera monitoring system was established at the top of Song-Ee Mountain in Daeijack Island. The system consists of 2 Cannon digital cameras, Eye-fi memory card/Long-Term Evolution wireless network, and solar power supply. The acquired camera images were analyzed to obtain the area of Puldeung by the following methods: geometric correction of image, identification of shoreline, areal measurement of Puldeung and its error estimation. To compare the Puldeung area with previously measured area of 1.79 km2 at tidal height of 137 cm in 2008 and of 1.59 km2 at tidal height of 148 cm in 2010, we selected images with same tidal heights. The Puldeung area was 1.37 and 1.23 km2 at the tidal height of 137 and 148 cm, respectively. The erosion at DMPA is very severe and thus it is imperative to initiate the morphodynamical study on the seasonal variation and long-term evolution of Puldeung as well as the causes and measures of Puldeung erosion.
Hydrodynamic Evaluation for Developing the New Inflatable Kayak

This study is to evaluate hydrodynamic performance evaluation between three kinds of inflatable kayaks, that is, a frame kayak, a needle knife kayak, and a v-hull kayak. In order to test, inclining and turning trial test are performed in the Ocean Engineering Basin. Also, a resistance test is performed with a reduced scale kayak in the circulating water channel. Consequently, First, the moment arm of a v-hull kayak is the largest with 132.4mm, but turning radius of one was the smallest of them. Second, the resistance of a needle knife kayak is the smallest with 71N, the center of gravity of one was the lowest with 0.128m of them, and then needle knife kayak occurs in a draft overall. Consequently, the v-hull kayak has had the advantages on restoring force and turning performance than others. The needle knife kayak has been more excellent on resistance and center of gravity than others.
Research of Combined Containment System for Floating LNG

Floating LNG is a new concept which is used as LNG regasification/receiving facility and for LNG production/export facility. LNG Floating Production Storage and Offloading(FPSO) concept will put vitality into marginal gas fields which were delayed because of excessive investment cost in the world. LNG Floating Storage Regasification Unit(FSRU) also provides commercially competitive and effective solutions to the areas where onshore infrastructure is not well established. LNG cargo containment system is one of the key functions for FLNG to store produced LNG on a floating structure. This paper presents a new technology related to a LNG containment system; a combined cargo containment system utilizing the advantages of iIndependent tank type and membrane system. Technical advantages have been validated through research work.
