The Journal of Oriental Obstetrics and Gynecology, volume 18, issue 4, 2005, Pages 24~35
Purpose : This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Cynomorii Herba (鎖陽) on the reproductive competence in male mice. Methods ： We used 8-week-old Spraque-Dawley rats and administered the extract powder of Cynomorii Herba to 5 rats and normal saline to control group once in a day for 28 days. Then we observed the changes of body weight before and after administration of Cynomorii Herba extracts and normal saline. We isolated their testis surgically and observed the weight of testis, epididymis, vascular gland and prostate. Also we examined the total, normal and motile sperm concentration, the concentration of testicular catalase, peroxidase and configuration of testicular tissue before and after administration of Cynomorii Herba extracts and normal saline. Results : We found that the concentration of total, normal, motile sperm in testis of Cynomorii Herba treated group shows significant difference compared with the control group. The body weight, the weight of testis, epididymis and the concentration of testicular catalase and peroxidase were higher in the Cynomorii Herba treated group, on the other hand the weight of vascular gland was lower in the Cynomorii Herba. But the contents of above statement showed no significant difference. The weight of prostate showed lower in the control group statistically than that of the Cynomorii Herba treated group. We observed the seminiferous tubules taken shape minutely and the number of normal sperm increased in Cynomorii Herba treated group's testicular tissue. Conclusion This study shows that Cynomorii Herba may have an effect on the concentration, morphology and motility of sperm, the important factor in male fertility.

The Journal of Oriental Obstetrics and Gynecology, volume 18, issue 4, 2005, Pages 36~53
Purpose : The Purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of Haingkyunghonghwatang (HKHHT) on anti-inflammatory effects. Methods : As for the parameters of inflammation, levels of several inflammatory cytokines and chemical mediators were determined in mouse lung fibroblast cells(mLFC) and RAW264.7 cells. Also, changes in pathological features by drug treatment were investigated in the in vivo edema-induced rats by carrageenin/arachidonic acid or in the colitis-induced mice by DSS treatment. Results : The cytotoxicity of HKHHT on mLFC and RAW264.7 cells wasn't observed at 100, 50, 10, and
of The treatments.
, IL-6 and NOS-II mRNA expression of RAW264.7 cells was inhibited by The treatments in a dose-dependent manner. HKHHT treatment of RAW264.7cells(HtRc) inhibited
and COX-2 mRNA expression. HtRc significantly inhibited IL-6 and NO production. HtRc inhibited ROS production. HKHHT inhibited rat's paw edema induced by carrageenin or arachidonate treatment in all concentrations examined. The body weight and colon length of colitis-induced mice were recovered to a normal level by DSS treatment. Clinical disease levels were significantly improved compared to the control animals. HKHHT treatment of colitis-induced mice(HtCm) significantly increased hematological values such as WBC and RBC counts, Hgb and HCT levels, but decreased PLT values. HtCm decreased IL-6 and
production significantly HtCm significantly increased CD3+(T) cell counts. In contrast, HKHHT treatment decreased CD19+ B cell counts and CD3+/CD69+ significantly, and also decreased B/T ratio (%) though not significant. Conclusion : These results indicated that HKHHT could be used for treating diverse female diseases caused by the inflammation.

Jin, Cheon-Sik ; Yang, Seung-Jeong ;
The Journal of Oriental Obstetrics and Gynecology, volume 18, issue 4, 2005, Pages 72~84
Purpose : This study was carried out to investigate the relaxational response to the water extract of Sobokchukeo-Tang(SCT) in isolated uterine muscle in rats. Methods : Segments of uterine muscle obtained from female rats immediately after delivery were mounted in organ baths superfused on a polygraph. The effects of SCT on the tension of potassium induced contracture were studied in rat uterine smooth muscles. All experiments were performed in Krebs-Henseit solution which was aerated with 100% oxygen and kept at
. Results : KCI did not produce contraction in calcium-free solution, but
induced concentration-dependent contraction after depolarizing with KCI. SCT inhibited the tonic contraction of uterine muscle as dose dependent manner. And when SCT was pretreated in calcium-free medium, it showed more powerful relaxational effect. The effect of 10mg/ml concentration of SCT was equal to that of 9nM and 70nM of nifedipine and verapamil and the relaxational effect of SCT on rat uterine muscle can be assumed to be concerned with the action of cyclic AMP. But the action mechanism of relaxation on the rat uterine muscles were concerned with the calcium channel. Conclusion : From this study we could suggest that the relaxtional effect of SCT on uterine muscle be available to preventing and curing dysmenorrhea.

Lee, Bo-Ra ; Lim, Eun-Mee ; Park, Jun-Sik ;
The Journal of Oriental Obstetrics and Gynecology, volume 18, issue 4, 2005, Pages 230~241
Uterine myoma is benign tumor formed from muscular and connective tissues, which is one of the most common tumors found in women's reproductive organs. Uterine myoma is the most common pelvic tumor and they are diagnosed in up to15 to 20% of women in pubertal period. Although myoma is generally considered to be a slowly growing tumor, in 20-40% of women at the age of 35 and more have uterine myoma of significant sizes with severe clinical symptoms. The most common symptoms include abdominal pain or discomfort, low abdominal pressure sensation, hypermenorrhea and urinary symptoms. The treatment of uterine myoma is just observation, operation and hormone replacement therapy. We treated 6 outpatients who has uterine myoma and visited Kyungwon InCheon Oriental Hospital with Herb-medication and acupuncture. So we have gotten good result from them. After 6 outpatients had taken Guichulpazing-tang(歸朮破?湯), the symptoms were improved and the size of the uterine myoma was reduced significantly, It proves that oriental medical treatment is effective on the patients with uterine myoma, but continuous studies are needed.
