Effects of Dokwhalgisaeng-tang Gamibang (DGG) Water Extract on Dexamethasone-treated Osteoblast

Objectives : In this study, the author aimed to evaluate the effects of water extract of Dokwhalgisaeng-tang Gamibang (DGG) on osteoblast proliferation in murine calvarial cells. Methods : The osteoblast separated from murine calvariae was cultivated and evaluated the cell function. After the addition of DGG on the culture medium, we determined the effect of DGG on the cell proliferation, protein synthesis, alkaline phosphatase activity, collagen synthesis, and cell viability of the cultivated osteoblast in the presence of dexamethasone. Results : DGG increased the survival rate, proliferation, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, protein synthesis and collagen synthesis of rat calvarial osteoblast in the presence of dexamethasone. Conclusions : DGG might improve the osteoporosis resulted from augmentation of osteoblast proliferation.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of water extract of Samki-eum Gamibang (SKG) on osteoblast proliferation in murine calvarial cells. Methods : The osteoblast separated from calvariae of murine was cultivated and evaluated the function of cell. After the addition of SKG on the culture medium, we investigated the effect of SKG on the cell viability, cell proliferation, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, bone matrix protein synthesis and collagen synthesis of the cultivated osteoblast.Results : SKG increased the survival rate and proliferation of rat calvarial osteoblast. SKG increased ALP activity, bone matrix protein synthesis and collagen synthesis of rat calvarial osteoblast. Conclusions : This study suggests that SKG has effect on glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIO) resulting from increase of osteoblast function.
Analysis of Korean Traditional Medicinal Treatment Trend of Infertility and Development of Questionnaire for Infertility Treatment

Objectives : The aim of this study is development of questionnaire for pattern identification of infertility and analysis of infertility treatment trend in korean traditional medicine. Methods : Data was collected by survey papers from 19 professors of the society of korean obstetrics and gynecology. We surveyed on pattern identifications, symptoms and prescriptions of infertility treatment, diagnosis of ovulation and pregnancy, and duration of infertility treatment. Results : By analysis of survey papers, We choose Kidney yang deficiency, Kidney yin deficiency, Blood deficiency, Liver depression, Dampness-phlegm, Dampness-heat, Static blood pattern for infertility treatment. And 41 items of questionnaire were chosen. Conclusions : We developed the questionnaire for pattern identification of infertility. And further research is necessary for improvement reliabilities and validities of the questionnaire of infertility.
A Preliminary Study for Development of Clinical Practice Guidelines of Korean Medicine in Breast Cancer

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to present the clinical practice guidelines for breast cancer through the analysis of existing clinical practice guidelines in Western and Chinese medicine. Methods : The literature search was performed regarding conventional and integrative medical treatment of breast cancer using Google Scholar, KIOM OASIS, PUBMED and Jisan library of Daejeon university. Results : Breast cancer is the fifth most common cancer in Korea. Recent studies revealed that combining conventional and integrative medical treatment can reduce the sequela of surgical operation and improve survival rate. However there isn’t still a systemic clinical guideline for breast cancer in korean medicine. This study will be a preliminary study to establish clinical practice guidelines of Korean Medicine for breast cancer.Conclusions : Further objective and systemic clinical studies related to Korean Medicine are needed to develope more advanced clinical practice guidelines of breast cancer.
Effects of Kanghwalsokdan-tang Gamibang Water Extract on Osteoclast Differentiation and Osteoblast Proliferation

Objectives : This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Kanghwalsokdan-tang Gamibang water extract (KSG) on osteoporosis. Methods : RANKL-stimulated RAW 264.7 was used to evaluate inhibitory effect of KSG osteoclast differentiation and gene expression. We counted TRAP (+) multinucleated cells and measured TRAP activity and mRNA expressions of osteoclastogenesis-related genes (NFATc1, MITF, JNK1, cathepsin K, MMP-9) to figure out the effect of KSG on osteoclast. Osteoblastogenesis was also determined in rat calvarial cell. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, bone matrix protein and collagen synthesis were measured by using murine calvarial cell. Results : KSG inhibited the differentiation of osteoclast precursor cell and expression of genes related osteoclastogenesis like NAFTc1, MITF, c-fos, JNK1, Cathepsin K, MMP-9 and TRAP. KSG increased cell division and function of osteoblast separated from the skull of a rat and ALP synthesis, biosynthesis of bone matrix protein and collagen. Conclusions : Reviewing these results, KSG has efficacy on osteoclast inhibition and osteoblast activation. After further study, KSG will be able to apply for osteoporosis treatment and prevention.
The Study of Effect on Oxygen Chamber for Recovery of Muscular Fatigue

Objectives: This Study was designed to investigate the effect of Oxygen chamber to recover muscle fatigue. Methods: Twenty Subjects were divided into Oxygen Chamber Group (n=10) and Rest group (n=10). Subjects visited hospital two times, blood tests were performed 3 times for each visit. 1st blood test was performed in 4 hours hunger state. 2nd blood test was performed within 5 minutes after the 6 minutes bike exercise. 3rd blood test was performed after the 40 minutes Oxygen treatment or 40 minutes rest in bed. Blood test items were Lactate, Glucose, Lactate Dehydrogenase, Creatine Kinase, Free Fatty Acid. 2nd visit was applied 1st visit process, But Oxygen Chamber group was crossed over to Rest Group, Rest Group was crossed over to Oxygen Chamber group. The Blood test result was analyzed with paired T-test using SPSS for Windows version 21. Results: The reduction of Lactate in Oxygen Chamber Group (6.86±2.07 mmol/ℓ) was higher than Rest group (6.57±2.33 mmol/ℓ), but it was not statically significant (p=0.68). The reduction of Glucose in Oxygen Chamber Group (6.85±12.14 mg/dl) was lower than Rest group (7.60±9.83 mg/dl), but it was not statically significant (p=0.83). The reduction of Lactate Dehydrogenase in Oxygen Chamber Group (16.10±14.91 mmol/ℓ) was lower than Rest group (19.75±12.46 mg/dl), but it was not statically significant (p=0.41). The reduction of Creatine Kinase in Oxygen Chamber Group (13.40±5.69 U/ℓ) was lower than Rest group (15.25±8.01 U/ℓ), but it was not statically significant (p=0.41). The reduction of Free Fatty Acid in Oxygen Chamber Group (285.50±174.13 uEq/ℓ) was higher than Rest group (196.15±131.58 uEq/ℓ), but it was not statically significant (p=0.07). Conclusions: This study showed Oxygen chamber therapy could be effective to recover muscle fatigue.
The Analysis of the Experimental Research Trend of Efficacy of Gyejibokryeong-hwan

Objectives: Gyejibokryeong-hwan (GBH), a traditional Korean herbal medicine, has been widely used for the treatment of the blood stasis syndrome. This study is purposed to analyze the experimental research trend of GBH in Korea for developing further research plan. Methods: A search of Korean research database-Oasis, RISS and KISS- and Pubmed was carried out for publications until 2015, for the words, 'Guizhifulingwan', ‘Gyejibokryeonghwan’, or ‘Keishibukuryogan’. Then study selection is conducted according to PRISMA guidelines, studies not related or using modified formula or administered for human are excluded, 48 studies are included in this review, finally. We analyzed studies by research method, subject, outcome measure, and result of the study. Results: There were 31 in vivo studies about the effect of GBH on platelet aggregation, anti-oxidant, blood viscosity, and hypercholesterolemia, etc. 12 in vitro studies were about the effect of GBH on the cervical carcinoma, chronic kidney disease, uterine myoma, hepatocarcinoma, atherosclerosis, cancer chemo-prevent. 9 ex vivo studies were about the effect of GBH on the platelet aggregation, chronic kidney disease, ovaulatory disorder, and rheumarthritis.Conclusions: We proposed the translational research of GBH involving scientific discoveries and developing practical applications by investigating the concept of blood stasis syndrome in terms of current physiopathological mechanism.
Three Cases of Chronic Relapsing Cystitis with Herb-medicine and Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture

Objectives: This study aims to report the effects of Korean medicine treatment by pattern identification and Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture on Chronic Relapsing Cystitis Methods: The patients was treated with Korean medicine by pattern identification and Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture at Qugu (CV2), Guanyuan (CV4). We evaluated treatment effects by changes of symptoms and urine analysis (UA) finding. Results: After treatments, the clinical symptoms such as painful urination, dysuria, frequent urination were improved and the state of urinalysis was improved. Conclusions: This clinical study suggests that Korean medicine treatment by pattern identification and Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture are significantly effective in treatment of a Chronic Relapsing Cystitis
A Case Report of Trigeminal Neuralgia of Pregnant Soeumin Treated by Traditional Korean Medicine

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medical treatment on a patient with trigeminal neuralgia during pregnancy. Methods: We treated a facial pain patient diagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia during pregnancy with acupuncture, cupping and herbal medicines. Herbal medicines were prescribed according to the patient's Sasang constitution which was Soeumin. The severity of symptom was evaluated by Numeric Rating System (NRS). Results: After treatment, the patient's facial pain caused by trigeminal neuralgia was improved. NRS score was decreased from 6 to 0. Conclusions: This case report shows that traditional Korean medical treatment and Sasang constitution medicine is effective for the patient with trigeminal neuralgia during pregnancy.
