Impacts of Play-Based Group Counseling on the Self-Concept and Sociability of Elementary Schoolers

The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts of group counseling utilizing intriguing 'play' on the self-concept and sociability of elementary schoolers in an attempt to determine the applicability of play-based group counseling as a way to develop the self-concept and sociability of school children. The subjects in this study were 40 third graders in K elementary school located in the city of J, south Gyeong- sang province. They included 20 boys and 20 girls, and an experimental group and a control group were organized with 20 students each that involved 10 boys and 10 girls respectively. Group counseling was provided to the experimental group by employing play, and no action was taken to the control group. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 12.0 program. Statistical data on mean(M) and standard deviation(SD) were obtained, and t-test was carried out to make a comparative analysis. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the play-based group counseling had an impact on the develop- ment of the school children's self-concept. Second, the play-based group counseling exerted an influence on the development of the school children's academic self-concept and emotional self-concept, which were two subareas of self-concept. Third, the play-centered group counseling affected the development of the school children's sociability. Fourth, the play-based group counseling exercised an influence on the development of the school children's law-abiding spirits, socializing and independence, which were subareas of sociability. According to the findings of the study, play-based group counseling is expected to make a great contribution to the development of school children's self-concept and sociability.
Children's Private Speech in Sociodramatic Play

The purpose of this study is to investigate both the characteristics of private speech, type of play, and peer involvement in the sociodramatic play and the correlation of private speech, the play type and the peer involvement. For this study, 15 children at 3 and 5 years old were observed, and observation scenes were transcribed and analyzed. The results of this study as follows; First, there was no difference in the amount of private speech between 3 and 5 years. And in all ages, 'fantastic play and sound effects' was observed most frequently in the private speech of sociodramatic play. Second, there were some differences by ages in the play type and peer involvement. Third, there were the most positive correlations between categories of private speech and fantastic play in play type as well as between categories of private speech and solitary play in peer involvement.
Sibling Violence Experienced by Adolescents

Sibling violence has not been researched as domestic violence. So this study investigated the experience of physical violence among adolescents. Sibling violence was explained based on the social learning theory, feminist theory and stress theoretical perspectives. Date were collected from 506 students of a university during 2007. Date were analyzed using the program of SPSS 16.0 for WINDOWS and the statistics used for analysis were T-Test, ANOVA and regression. Findings indicated that about a half of the sample failed to recognized their experiences as a form of violence. Almost 45.1% of the young adults had experienced at least one violent act from their sibling during the past year. The most common acts were 'hit with hand or objects. As expected by the social learning theory, conflict between parents and children were associated with violent experiences. From this results, it is proposed that more research should be expanded, and the education on sibling violence should be involved in social work programs.
Analysis Job Contents of Child Care Teachers

This study set out to examine the areas and contents of jobs that child care teachers performed on the field. For those purposes, literature study was conducted in regard to the jobs of child care teachers, and interviews and surveys were carried out to analyze the contents. First, there were ten areas of jobs required from child care teachers, and they include preparations for child care activities, actual performance of child care activities, evaluation of child care activities, increase of professionalism, protection of infants and young children, dealing with parents, events, office work, facilities and equipments, and interpersonal relations and social affairs. And they turned out to perform total 146 different jobs, which consisted of 19 jobs in preparations for child care activities, 28 jobs in actual performance of child care activities, 11 jobs in evaluation of child care activities, 26 jobs in protection of infants and babies, 13 jobs in increase of professionalism, 8 jobs in dealing with parents, 5 jobs in events, 26 jobs in office work, 6 jobs in facilities and equipments, and 4 jobs in interpersonal relations and social affairs.
A Study on the Teacher's Job Satisfaction in Childcare Center

The purpose of this study is investigation of teacher's job satisfaction according to individuals, facilities, and facility heads. The subjects of this study are 202 teachers. The data analyses by SPSS program 12.0 version which employed basic statistics, reliability test, and t-test, ANOVA, multi-comparison of Duncan and General Linear Model. The result showed that firstly, job satisfaction of teachers was related teacher's age, major. Secondly, job satisfaction of teachers was related an urban community, scale in facilities, Thirdly, job satisfaction of teachers was related the facility head's career and leadership.
Trends and Issues of kindergarten and Child Care Center Unification (In Jung Children's Centers) in Japan

Recently the Japanese government has suggested to two preschool institutions into one new combined institution and named it In Jung Children's Centers. The purpose of this study is focused on the policy of the In Jung Children's Centers, Which refer to the improvemented integration models of child care and education program in Japan. Methodology proceeds from a review of related literature to internet-based data and to the statistics issued by the government. The correspondent results are as follows. Since 1990's, the policy of the unity, for social promoted in many ways by pursuing the common ground between day care and kindergarten. Prospective unified programs(In Jung Children's Centers) should provide both care and education to help parents in raising their children. The direction for improvement of Korean early childhood education is to establish formal education system of early childhood education.
A Study on Children's Art Activities Related to Daily Experiences and Their Art Expression

The purpose of this study was to analyze acrt activities related to daily experiences on young children's art expression. The subjects were 36 six-year-old children who were work's child care center They were joined in this education activities one time in a week for 4 months. The instrument of children's artistry expression ability was evaluation criterion of Visual Arts Domain on project spectrum(Krechevsky, 1994). The results of this study are as fillows: The level of young children's art expression was better late activities than early actvites. Art activities related to daily experiences had a positive effect on representation, exploration, artistry ability. And young children was intimate relationshilp by acrt activities related to daily experiences with peer. Art activities related to daily experiences gives a meaningful influence on the level of representation, exploration and artistry of young children's art expression.
Effect of Forgiveness Education Program Using Picture Books on Aggressive Behaviors of Young Children

This study aims to see any effect of the application of a forgiveness program on the reduction of children's aggressiveness. Subjects were 15 boys and 15 girls, which totals 30 children at two classrooms of G Kindergarten located in Ulsan City. A 40-minute-class twice a week with the forgiveness education program was offered to the test group, and a class suited to the kindergarten curriculum was offered to the control group. The findings of this study include the following. First, the test group that received the forgiveness education program showed a significant reduction of extrinsic aggressiveness out of aggressive behavior (p<.001) relative to the control group, and physical aggressiveness and verbal aggressiveness, which are sub-areas of aggressiveness, were also reduced significantly. Second, the test group treated with the forgiveness education program showed a significant reduction of intrinsic aggressiveness out of aggressive behavior (p<.001) relative to the control group. As a result of this study, the forgiveness education program may be effective in having a positive effect on reducing children's aggressiveness.
Mothers' and teachers' perception on the quality of child-care service in the child-care centers

The aim of this study was to identify on the difference of perception between mothers and teachers about the quality index of child-care service in child-care centers. The subjects were 131 mothers whose children were enrolled in child-care centers and 124 teachers who were working in the child-care centers in Seoul. The measure consisted of :physical environment; psychological environment: the quantity and quality of scientific material; the educational course of child care for infant: management for the child care center; nutrition, safe, health, and sanitation: community service for parents, family and infant. Data was collected with the questionnaire method and analyzed by Spss-win program, including multiple response analysis and cross analysis. The results of this study can be summarized in order of importance as follows: There was a significant difference between mothers' and teachers' perception on the quality of child-care service in all areas except physical environment. There was a significant difference between mothers' and teachers' perception on the sub-variables of quality of child-care service respectively. The true value of this study is that provides increased an understanding about the mothers' and teachers' perception on the quality of child care service. Also, the results of this study will be made available to interactional efforts between child-care centers and children's families.
The Effect of Preschoolers' Intelligence, Problem-solving and Task Concentration Span upon Delay of Gratification

The purpose of this study was to examine the ability of children's delay of gratification and various factors that influence delay of gratification. The data were collected from 73 children's, aged 5, who were enrolled in H elementary school annexed kindergarten and S elementary school annexed kindergarten, located at Gunpo City, Gyeonggi-do Province, South Korea by using K-WPPSI, CPS test, task concentration test and delay of gratification test. For analysis and comparison of collected data, frequency analysis, t-test, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed using SPSS software. The results were as follows: First, differences among children's intelligence, problem -solving and task concentration span by sex presented the superior ability of female children's but there was no significant difference. Second, differences among problem-solving, task concentration span and delay of gratification by intelligence group presented the superiority of highly intelligent group in all the variables as well as significant effect. Third, as a result of analysis, significant correlations were observed among children's intelligence, problem-solving, task concentration span and delay of gratification. And there was no significant effect of children's problem-solving and task concentration span upon delay of gratification.
