This study is about the TV Electronic Program Guide (EPG) design to which Perceived Information Architecture (PIA) based on user-experience is applied. The function-oriented information architecture is not friendly for user to search channels, while Multi-channels of EPG system provides users with opportunities to select a variety of channels. Because the menu structure of EPG user interface system is not compatible with the user experience. Therefore, this study presented a user-experience-based methodology and proposed a new solution for the information architecture of user-centered EPG system design.

IPTV Services that is representative union service of broadcasting and telecommunication need guarantee of QoS, efficiency of multicasting, and hish bandwidth on the network. Because typical TDM based metro transport network was designed by transporting fixed voice traffic with stable and recovering method, it has a defect of bottleneck and a waste of bandwidth for acceptance of data traffic with burst feature and then all of data are treated equally at the transport network because it cannot classify between advanced high end service and best effort low end service. for completely resolving this kind of problem about increasing burst traffic and QoS issues, firstly we need to new design for transport network. This paper presents transformation method from TDM based metro transport network to packet based transport network and advantage and effectiveness of packet based transport network and also indicates technical factor and characters about method of packet transport system. As a result of research, the Packet Transport System, which is a transmission network for packet delivery, take in not only a specific character of legacy TDM but QoS, Multicast and high bandwidth, then, it is able to keep an effective bandwidth and a stabilized performance of packet transmissions. Additionally, if a fault be occurred on an optical link, the system is able to guarantee a differential QoS by an each service class using an algorithm to make certain of a traffic existence and contain a protective mechanism.
A study on decision on scalable coding method for IPTV service over heterogeneous network

In heterogeneous networks SVC (Scalabile Video Coding) will be used for IPTV service. This paper analyses how to determine the optimal inter-layer reference scheme according to final level to be displayed in hybrid scalable coding which consists of spatial, quality and temporal layer. It determines where to stop layering quality layer stacks in lower spatial layer according to the relationship between noise induced by loss of high frequency component eliminated by filter in order to get rid of aliasing when spatial layering is processed and noise induced by quantization when quality layering is processed. This paper shows the choice of the level of layering between spatial and quality to get better coding efficiency and then presents what is needed for determining it.
Quality Metric with Full Scalability on Scalable Video Coding

Currently, the efficient adaptive video streaming services and coding techniques are required to ensure quality of service (QoS) in diverse multimedia environments. To maintain optimal video quality in these environments, it is required to support scalable video coding (SVC) technique and proper QoS metric methods. In this paper, we propose a new quality metric that takes in to the temporal, the SNR, the spatial scalability on SVC. Experimental results shows that proposed method has a higher correlation with the subjective quality. We expect that the proposed metric plays an important role in deciding the coding parameter to optimize the quality of the SVC based video.
New reversible data hiding algorithm based on difference expansion method

Reversible data embedding theory has marked a new epoch for data hiding and information security. Being reversible, the original data and the embedded data as well should be completely restored. Difference expansion transform is a remarkable breakthrough in reversible data hiding scheme. The difference expansion method achieves high embedding capacity and keeps the distortion low. This paper shows that the difference expansion method with simplified location map, and new expandability and changeability can achieve more embedding capacity while keeping the distortion almost the same as the original expansion method.
Enhanced-x VSB System Development for Next Generation Terrestrial DTV RF Transmission

In this paper, we describe a new 1/4 rate robust modulation techniques for Enhanced-x VSB system which is fully backward compatible with ATSC 8-VSB standard. 1/4 rate mode Enhanced-xVSB system provides broadcasters with a wide choice of trade-offs of data rate vs amount of robustness of enhanced data for pedestrian/mobile services. Lab test results of proposed Enhanced-x VSB 1/4 rate mode robust stream are a significantly improved multipath as well as AWGN reception performance for Enhanced-x VSB receiver. We suggest an Enhanced-x VSB terrestrial broadcasting system for ATSC HDTV and pedestrian/portable TV simultaneous broadcasting service providing.
Multi-view Video Coding using View Interpolation

Since the multi-view video is a set of video sequences captured by multiple array cameras for the same three-dimensional scene, it can provide multiple viewpoint images using geometrical manipulation and intermediate view generation. Although multi-view video allows us to experience more realistic feeling with a wide range of images, the amount of data to be processed increases in proportion to the number of cameras. Therefore, we need to develop efficient coding methods. One of the possible approaches to multi-view video coding is to generate an intermediate image using view interpolation method and to use the interpolated image as an additional reference frame. The previous view interpolation method for multi-view video coding employs fixed size block matching over the pre-determined disparity search range. However, if the disparity search range is not proper, disparity error may occur. In this paper, we propose an efficient view interpolation method using initial disparity estimation, variable block-based estimation, and pixel-level estimation using adjusted search ranges. In addition, we propose a multi-view video coding method based on H.264/AVC to exploit the intermediate image. Intermediate images have been improved about
using the proposed method compared to the previous view interpolation method, and the coding efficiency have been improved about 0.5 dB compared to the reference model.
Portable Projection-Based Display System

Projection-based augmented reality (AR) system refers to the system that accurately project high quality virtual information at the user-specified area by using the projector. Most of projection-based AR systems use the display device to support high quality and wide screen for increasing the user-immersion. Furthermore, they are implemented on the desktop environment due to the computational complexity. However, these projection-based AR systems are not suited as a mobile system and thus it may be inconvenient in the user point of view. Fortunately, Miniaturization of projectors and improved capacity of the mobile processor allowed the mobile AR system to be convenient. The limitation of established mobile AR system is that it uses small display screen which does not support high-resolutions and thus it may reduce the user-immersion into the system. In this paper, we propose portable projection-based display system, which overcomes the limitations of both projection-based and mobile-based AR systems. We have conducted the user evaluation to verify the effectiveness and the utmost capacity of the system.
A study of mitigated interference Chaotic-OOK system in IEEE802.15.4a

Recently, IEEE 802.15.4a(low-rate UWB) technique has been paid much attention to the LR-UWB communication system for WPAN. However, there are various interferences such as MPI(Multi Path Interference) or IPI(Inter Piconet Interference) in IEEE 802.15.4a wireless channel. In order to cancel various interferences occurred to WPAN environment, in this paper, we propose a UWB wireless communication system with high QoS(Quality of Service) which is a chaotic-OOK(On-Off Keying) system using unipolar ZCD(Zero Correlation Duration) spreading code in physical layer level. Furthermore, we analyze its performance via simulations and verify the availability of proposed system with prototype implementation.
Implementation of Encoder and Decoder for MPEG-7 BiM

In the paper, we implemented a software system that encodes XML instance documents conforming to a schema document according to the MPEG-7 BiM compression method, and decodes the encoded documents vice versa. We designed software structures of BiM encoder and decoder as class hierarchies, and then implemented the structures. The implemented BiM encoder shows a compression ratio of 9.44% on the average. The BiM encoder is a general-purpose XML compressor that can encode any instance documents conforming to a schema document described in XML Schema language including the MPEG-7 schema. The BiM encoder thus can be used in many application fields including digital broadcasting environment, where encoding XML instance documents is needed.
Comparison of subjective video quality assessment methods for multimedia applications

In this paper, we compared two subjective assessment methods DSCQS(Double Stimulus Continuous Quality Scale method) and ACR(Absolute Category Rating). These methods are widely used in order to evaluate video quality for multimedia application. We performed subjective quality tests using DSCQS and ACR methods. The subjective scores obtained by the DSCQS and ACR methods show that these methods are highly correlated in terms of MOS(Mean Opinion Score) and have slightly lower correlation in terms of DMOS(Difference Mean Opinion Score). The results indicate that ACR method is an effective subjective quality assessment method, which shows compatible performance with DSCQS method and can evaluate a larger number of video sequences.
An Efficient Deinterlacing Algorithm Using New Edge-Directed Interpolation

The interpolation is used in many image processing applications such as image enhancement, de-interlacing/scan-rate conversion, wavelet transforms based on the lifting scheme, and so on. Among these, de-interlacing and scan-rate conversion are proposed for the digital TV applications. The de-interlacing algorithm can be classified into two categories. The first one uses only one field, called intra-field de-interlacing, and the other uses multiple field, called inter-field de-interlacing. In this paper, an efficient de-interlacing algorithm using spatial domain information is proposed far the interpolation of interlaced images. By efficiently estimating the directional correlations, improved interpolation accuracy has been achieved. In addition, the proposed method is simply structured and is easy to implement. Extensive simulations conducted for various images and video sequences have shown the efficacy of the proposed method with significant improvement over the previous intra-field do-interlacing methods in terms of the objective image quality as well as the subjective image quality.
