Cooperative Diversity using Cyclic Delay for OFDM systems

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is one of the most promising technologies for high data rate wireless communications. OFDM has been adopted in wireless standards such as digital audio/video broadcasting. The combination of OFDM and cooperative diversity techniques can provide the diversity gain and/or increased capacity. In this paper, the cooperative coding using cyclic delay diversity (CDD) for multiuser OFDM systems is introduced. To improve the beneficial effects of relays's cooperation, CDD is adopted in cooperative transmission of relays. Simulation results show the bit error rate (BER) for various consideration. The proposed scheme provides improved performance compared to delay.
Quality Metric with Video Characteristics on Scalable Video Coding

In this paper, we proposed the qualify metric based on SVC and the subjective quality. The proposed quality metric is for a general purpose. It means we can use it for any video sequences regardless of its temporal and spatial characteristics. The Quality of Service(QoS) is one of the important issues in heterogeneous environment which has diverse restrictions such as limited network bandwidth and limited display resolution. Scalable Video Coding(SVC) is the efficient video coding skill in heterogeneous environment. Because SVC can be adapted to various quality bitstreams using three scalabilities(spatial, temporal, and SNR) from one bitstream which has full scalability. To maximize the QoS in this environment, we should consider the subjective quality which is the viewer response. And also we should consider temporal and spatial characteristics of video sequence because the subjective quality is affected by temporal and spatial characteristics of video sequence. To verify the efficiency of the proposed method, we perform subjective assessments. The experimental results show that the proposed method has high correlation with subjective quality. The proposed method can be a decision tool of SVC birstream extraction.
Lightweight video coding using spatial correlation and symbol-level error-correction channel code

In conventional video coding, encoder complexity is much higher than that of decoder. However, investigations for lightweight encoder to eliminate motion prediction/compensation claiming most complexity in encoder have recently become an important issue. The Wyner-Ziv coding is one of the representative schemes for the problem and, in this scheme, since encoder generates only parity bits of a current frame without performing any type of processes extracting correlation information between frames, it has an extremely simple structure compared to conventional coding techniques. However, in Wyner-Ziv coding, channel decoding errors occur when noisy side information is used in channel decoding process. These channel decoding errors appear more frequently, especially, when there is not enough correlation between frames to generate accurate side information and, as a result, those errors look like Salt & Pepper type noise in the reconstructed frame. Since this noise severely deteriorates subjective video quality even though such noise rarely occurs, previously we proposed a computationally extremely light encoding method based on selective median filter that corrects such noise using spatial correlation of a frame. However, in the previous method, there is a problem that loss of texture from filtering may exceed gain from error correction by the filter for video sequences having complex torture. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an improved lightweight encoding method that minimizes loss of texture detail from filtering by allowing information of texture and that of noise in side information to be utilized by the selective median filter. Our experiments have verified average PSNR gain of up to 0.84dB compared to the previous method.
A Fast 4X4 Intra Prediction Method using Motion Vector Information and Statistical Mode Correlation between 16X16 and 4X4 Intra Prediction In H.264|MPEG-4 AVC

H.264| MPEG-4 AVC is a new video codingstandard defined by JVT (Joint Video Team) which consists of ITU-T and ISO/IEC. Many techniques are adopted fur the compression efficiency: Especially, an intra prediction in an inter frame is one example but it leads to excessive amount of encoding time due to the decision of a candidate mode and a RDcost calculation. For this reason, a fast determination of the best intra prediction mode is the main issue for saving the encoding time. In this paper, by using the result of statistical relation between intra
intra predictions, the number of candidate modes for
intra prediction is reduced. Firstly, utilizing motion vector obtained after inter prediction, prediction of a block mode for each macroblock is made. If an intra prediction is needed, the correlation table between
intra predicted modes is created using the probability during each I frame-coding process. Secondly, using this result, the candidate modes for a
intra prediction that reaches a predefined specific probability value are only considered in the same GOP For the experiments, JM11.0, the reference software of H.264|MPEG-4 AVC is used and the experimental results show that the encoding time could be reduced by 51.24% in maximum with negligible amounts of PSNR drop and bitrate increase.
Mesh Editing Using the Motion Feature Vectors

In this paper, we proposed a new mesh editing algorithm based on the motion between two sample meshes. First, the motion vectors are defined as the derivation vector of the corresponding vertices on the sample meshes. Then, the motion feature vectors are extracted between the motion vectors. The motion feature vectors represent the similarity of the vertex motion in a local mesh surface. When a mesh structure is forced by an external motion of anchor vertices, the deformed mesh geometry is obtained by minimizing the cost function with preserving the motion feature vectors. Simulation results demonstrated that the proposed algorithm yields visually pleasing editing results.
An Efficient Thumbnail Extraction Method in H.264/AVC Bitstreams

Recently, as growing of high definition media services like HDTV and IPTV, fast moving picture manipulation techniques need to meet what those services require. Especially, a fast reduced-size image extracting method is required in the areas of video indexing and video summary Conventional DC image extracting methods, however, can't be applied to H.264/AVC streams since a spatial domain prediction scheme is adopted in H.264/AVC intra mode. In this paper, we propose a theoretical method for extracting a thumbnail image from an H.264/AVC intra frame in the frequency domain. Furthermore, the proposed scheme can extract the thumbnail very fast since all operations are applied to transform coefficients directly, after a general equation for the thumbnail extraction in nine H.264/AVC intra prediction modes is introduced, an LUT(Look Up Table) for each mode is designed. Through the implementation and performance evaluation, while the subject quality difference between the output of our scheme and a conventional output is negligible, the former can extract the thumbnail faster then the latter by up to 63%.
Information Fusion of Photogrammetric Imagery and Lidar for Reliable Building Extraction

We propose a new building detection and description algorithm for Lidar data and photogrammetric imagery using color segmentation, line segments matching, perceptual grouping. Our algorithm consists of two steps. In the first step, from the initial building regions extracted from Lidar data and the color segmentation results from the photogrammetric imagery, we extract coarse building boundaries based on the Lidar results with split and merge technique from aerial imagery. In the secondstep, we extract precise building boundaries based on coarse building boundaries and edges from aerial imagery using line segments matching and perceptual grouping. The contribution of this algorithm is that color information in photogrammetric imagery is used to complement collapsed building boundaries obtained by Lidar. Moreover, linearity of the edges and construction of closed roof form are used to reflect the characteristic of man-made object. Experimental results on multisensor data demonstrate that the proposed algorithm produces more accurate and reliable results than Lidar sensor.
Service Discovery Scheme for Wireless Ad-hoc Networks

Efficient service discovery mechanism is a crucial feature for the usability of a wireless ad-hoc network. A wireless ad-hoc network is a temporal network formed by a collection of wireless mobile nodes without the aid of any existing network infrastructure or centralized administration. We propose an efficient service discovery mechanism using non-disjoint multi-path routing protocol for a wireless ad-hoc network. Our scheme has advantages of not only multi-path routing protocol but also cross-layer service discovery. By simulation, we showed that faster route recovery is possible by maintaining multiple routing paths in each node, and the route maintenance overhead can be reduced by limiting the number of multiple routing paths and by maintaining link/node non-disjoint multi-path.
Verifier-Based Multi-Party Password-Authenticated Key Exchange for Secure Content Transmission

In this paper, we present two verifier-based multi-party PAKE (password-authenticated key exchange) protocols. The shared key can be used for secure content transmission. The suggested protocols are secure against server compromise attacks. Our first protocol is designed to provide forward secrecy and security against known-key attacks. The second protocol is designed to additionally provide key secrecy against the server which means that even the server can not know the session keys of the users of a group. The suggested protocols have a constant number of rounds are provably secure in the standard model. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed protocols are the first secure multi-party PAKE protocols against server compromise attacks in the literature.
Study on Security Framework using Security Quantitative Analysis for the Effective Multimedia Services to WLAN Mesh Network

Multimedia service whose use is rapidly increasing supports effective services to convert and transmit multimedia data based on network speed, noise circumstance, terminal computation, and type of contents for satisfying QoS. For supporting information protection of multimedia service, it offers middle level of singular security service or security mechanism which is based on policy of service provider, depending on present terminal computation and type of contents. It can support security mechanism for more effective multimedia service, if we study security of application layer and network layer for supporting multimedia service. In this paper, we propose Multimedia security framework reflected on quantitative analysis of the WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) mesh network security using the utility function in the level of the sorority, violation and addictive compensation model.
Media Production Environment Using Metadata based on Advanced Authoring Format

In this paper, we propose from media production environment using meta-data based on advanced authoring format(AAF). The media production system becomes digitalized since the image degradation and data storage should be minimized. For transmitting various contents without loss of meta-data. Editing decision list(EDL)is used in the current broadcasting and cinema environment, which results in inefficient performance. We compared the proposed AAF with the existing EDL cut, and tested successful transmission of the metadata. Based on the experimental results, the proposed AAF contains more video information than EDL.
