Adaptive Cooperative Relay Transmission Technique Using Closed-loop MIMO Scheme for Duplex Communication System

In this paper, We propose that the adaptive cooperative relay transmission technique using closed-loop MIMO scheme for duplex communication system. As the mobility between relay and base station is little, closed-loop MIMO is better diversity gain than open-loop MIMO. At this time, more than one relaying terminals are included in one cooperative group to share their transmission and take precoding weight feedback. For minimization of throughput reduction caused by increasing feedback bits, we use codebook-based MRT that limit the number of feedback bits. Among the cooperative relay group, the best relays are selected from the base stataion and get the feedback. A protocol senarios are also proposed for this relay system.
Stereoscopic Free-viewpoint Tour-Into-Picture Generation from a Single Image

The free viewpoint video delivers an active contents where users can see the images rendered from the viewpoints chosen by them. Its applications are found in broad areas, especially museum tour, entertainment and so forth. As a new free-viewpoint application, this paper presents a stereoscopic free-viewpoint TIP (Tour Into Picture) where users can navigate the inside of a single image controlling a virtual camera and utilizing depth data. Unlike conventional TIP methods providing 2D image or video, our proposed method can provide users with 3D stereoscopic and free-viewpoint contents. Navigating a picture with stereoscopic viewing can deliver more realistic and immersive perception. The method uses semi-automatic processing to make foreground mask, background image, and depth map. The second step is to navigate the single picture and to obtain rendered images by perspective projection. For the free-viewpoint viewing, a virtual camera whose operations include translation, rotation, look-around, and zooming is operated. In experiments, the proposed method was tested eth `Danopungjun` that is one of famous paintings made in Chosun Dynasty. The free-viewpoint software is developed based on MFC Visual C++ and OpenGL libraries.
Joint Subcarrier and Power Allocation for a Downlink OFDMA Relay Network in Multi-Cell Environments

In this paper, we propose a new resource allocation scheme for an OFDMA relay network with multicells. In the proposed scheme, by sharing the channel state information (CSI) between base stations, resources are allocated to users and relays to maximize the overall sum of the achievable rate under fairness constraints. In order to reduce the computational complexity, a resource allocation scheme is proposed by separating subcarrier allocation and power allocation into two parts. First of all, by considering inter-cell interference (ICI), a subcarrier is allocated to a user-relay pair, and power is allocated relays. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves higher spectral efficiency per subcarrier than the static scheme and reduces the outage probability compared to the static and greedy schemes.
A Simple Carrier Frequency Recovery Scheme for DVB-S2 Systems

In this paper, a simple Carrier Frequency Recovery(CFR) scheme is introduced. In relating the use of consumer-grade equipment and satellite transmission environments, carrier frequency recovery have to recovery a large initial Carrier Frequency Offset(CFO), which is 20% normalized CFO, for DVB-S2 receivers. For these reasons, conventional CFR schemes for DVB-S2 systems need significant hardware complexity. Introduced CFR scheme employs Fitz algorithm for coarse CFR and recovers a coarse CFO accurately, and a simple pilot block correlation algorithm is employed for fine CFR. Introduced scheme reduce the number of multiplication operations by 80% and does not need any additional memory without degrading the achievable performance.
Terrestrial DTV Broadcasting Program Protection System based on Program Protection Information

As illegal distribution of the terrestial DTV broadcast program occurs very frequently in on-line, the needs to protect broadcast program have increased. In this paper, a new approach to implement a system for terrestial DTV broadcast program protection based on program protection information(PPI) is proposed. In our approach, the broadcast program is recorded with encryption according to redistribution condition of the PPI and packaged into a file with key information and PPI together. And we also define a set of domain protocol for supporting user fair-use of broadcast program. In the proposed system, copy control can also be provided by process of home domain management. Implementation results show that our system can protect broadcast programs with efficiency and can support conditional distribution within home domain in order to satisfy user fair-use.
Multiplexing of UHDTV Based on MPEG-2 TS

In this paper, a method of MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) multiplexing for Ultra HDTV (UHDTV) and its design and implementation as a SW tool is described. In practice, UHD video may be divided into several HD videos and each video is encoded in parallel. Therefore, it is necessary to synchronize and multiplex multiple bitstreams encoding each HD video for transmitting and storing UHD video. In this paper, it is assumed that 4 HD videos partitioning a UHD spatially are encoded as H.264/AVC and two 5.0 channel audios are encoded by AC-3. Therefore, 4 H.264/AVC elementary streams (ESs) and 2 AC-3 ESs is mainly considered in the TS multiplexing of UHD. For the carriage of H.264/AVC and AC-3 over MPEG-2 TS, PES packetization and TS multiplexing are designed and implemented based on the extended specification of the MPEG-2 Systems and ATSC (Digital audio compressed standard), respectively. The implemented UHD TS multiplexing tool emulates real time HW operation in the time unit corresponding to the duration of one TS packet transmission in a given TS rate. In particular, in order to satisfy the timing model, the buffers defined in the TS System Target Decoder (T-STD) are monitored and their statuses are considered in the scheduling of TS multiplexing. For UHD multiplexing, two kinds of multiplexing structures, which are UHD re-multiplexing and UHD program multiplexing, are implemented and their strength and weakness are investigated. The developed UHD TS multiplexing tool is tested and verified in terms of the syntax and semantics conformance and functionalities by using a commercial analyzer and real-time presentation tools.
ICI Cancellation of OFDM System with Multiple Frequency offsets

In this paper, an interchannel interference (ICI) cancellation method is proposed for multiple frequency offsets in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. When several same signals are received from different transmitters simultaneously, multiple frequency offsets may occur at the receiver because of the frequency difference of the oscillators of the two transmitters and the receiver. This causes degradation of system performance because OFDM systems are very sensitive to the frequency offsets. In this paper, we propose a method to eliminate the effect of the multiple frequency offsets for OFDM systems. The method is accomplished in two steps: compensation of the frequency offset in the time domain and subsequent cancellation of the ICI in the frequency domain. Through computer simulations, we verify the effectiveness of the proposed ICI cancellation method.
Optimal Transmission Method in Cooperative Relay Communication Systems with Hierarchical Modulation

In this paper, we analyze the performance of the cooperative relay communication system which uses orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) with hierarchical subcarrier modulation. In the cooperative relay communication system, data transmission is accomplished in two time slots. In the first time slot, the source broadcasts the signal to the relay and to the destination. The relay demodulates the received signal, remodulates and forwards it to the destination in the second time slot. The source uses hierarchical modulation for subcarriers to deal with the signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) difference in the source-relay and source-destination links. The bit error rate (BER) of the relay transmission system with hierarchical modulation depends on the hierarchical modulation parameter. First, we derive the relationship between BER and the parameter, and find the optimal parameter giving the minimum BER through computer simulations. Then, we analyze the performance of the proposed cooperative relay communication system according to the relay location. From this results, we find optimal relay location to maximize the BER performance.
Depth-map coding using the block-based decision of the bitplane to be encoded

This paper proposes an efficient depth-map coding method. The adaptive block-based depth-map coding method decides the number of bit planes to be encoded according to the quantization parameters to obtain the desired bit rates. So, the depth-map coding using the block-based decision of the bit-plane to be encoded proposes to free from the constraint of the quantization parameters. Simulation results show that the proposed method, in comparison with the adaptive block-based depth-map coding method, improves the average BD-rate savings by 3.5% and the average BD-PSNR gains by 0.25dB.
Object Tracking Algorithm Using Weighted Color Centroids Shifting

Recently, mean shift tracking algorithms have been proposed which use the information of color histogram together with some spatial information provided by the kernel. In spite of their fast speed, the algorithms are suffer from an inherent instability problem which is due to the use of an isotropic kernel for spatiality and the use of the Bhattacharyya coefficient as a similarity function. In this paper, we analyze how the kernel and the Bhattacharyya coefficient can arouse the instability problem. Based on the analysis, we propose a novel tracking scheme that uses a new representation of the location of the target which is constrained by the color, the area, and the spatiality information of the target in a more stable way than the mean shift algorithm. With this representation, the target localization in the next frame can be achieved by one step computation, which makes the tracking stable, even in difficult situations such as low-rate-frame environment, and partial occlusion.
Rich Media Framework based on MPEG-4 LASeR PMSI Technique

In this paper, we presents an efficient rich media framework based on MPEG-4 LASeR PMSI. Rich media provides distinctive features such as dynamic updates and object-based interactivity over the conventional AV centric media service. It rapidly gains its popularity as the convergent multimedia services between broadcasting and telecommunication. MPEG-4 LASeR is an international standard which provides specifications for such rich media services. Recently MPEG added an extension to LASeR called PMSI. It provides an efficient technique to present SI on a scene by referencing specific portions of SI from PI. The presented rich media application is using PMSI of MPEG-4 LASeR standard to provide users a widget-like rich media application. This application utilizes MPEG-4 LASeR with PMSI technique as PI, and this PI references SI to present information that resides in SI on a scene. In this paper, we provide descriptions of technical ingredients used to build the presented application. The framework is presented followed by the implementation result. Possible impacts and applicable services are described in the conclusion.
Enhanced Weighted Directional Demosaicking using Edge Indicator

A color image requires at least three color channels to obtain the full color image. However the image sensor obtains only the intensity of the brightness, that is, three image sensors are required for every pixel to capture the full color image. Since the image sensor is quiet expensive, most of digital still cameras adopt single image sensor array with color filter array (CFA) to reduce the size and the cost. Since the image obtained using single sensor array has only one color component per pixel, we need to reconstruct the missing two color components to obtain the full color image. We call this process as color filter interpolation or demosaicking. In this paper, demosaicking algorithm composed of two large step is proposed. Proposed algorithm is combined with several different algorithms such as Edge-directed demosaicking, Second-order gradients as correction terms, Smooth hue transition Interpolation, etc. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm performs much better than the state-of-the-art demosaicking algorithms in terms of both subjective and objective qualities.
Improved Motion Compensation Using Adjacent Pixels

The H.264/AVC standard uses efficient inter prediction technologies improving the coding efficiency by reducing temporal redundancy between images. However, since H.264/AVC does not efficiently encode a video sequence that occurs a local illumination change, the coding efficiency of H.264/AVC is decreased when a local illumination change happens in video. In this paper, we propose an improved motion compensation using adjacent pixels and motion vector refinement to efficiently encode local illumination changes. The proposed method always improves the BD-PSNR (Bj
ntegaard Delta Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of 0.01 ~ 0.21 dB compared with H.264/AVC.
The Analysis of User Preference Tendency for Color Temperature Conversion of the Image

Recently, researches to improve a quality and a color of a display are being actively studied because of the prosperous growth of the flat panel displays such as LCD, PDP and OLED. Automatically adjusting color temperatures based on user preferences is the one of the researches to provide the optimum display color. In this paper, along with defining the problems of prior methods, the user preferences against the priori defined ranges proposed by the MPEG-7 color temperature descriptor are inspected. Based on the analysis of user preferences, an optimal color temperature conversion curve is proposed. As a result of an analysis by ANOVA, tendencies of the user preferences against each range are proven to be similar to the prior research results. The repetition of the color temperature conversion against an image is not statistically significant.
Design of Alert Message and Message Segmentation For T-DMB Automatic Emergency Alert Service Standard

This paper presents the design of alert message and message segmentation method for the Terrestrial DMB Automatic Emergency Alert Service Standard. This paper begins with the introduction of the standard and some background. The alert message contains the essential information of the alert. Structured information is represented as coded fields and the unstructured as short sentences. Design factors of each field are analyzed first. Next each field’s semantics and syntax are described. The message segmentation method is presented next. The previous study selected FIDC as the message delivery channel. However, in most cases, the size of the alert message exceeds the maximum size of FIG, which is the basic unit packet for the channel. The current T-DMB standard does not support the segmentation method for FIDC. To solve the problem, this paper proposes an elegant segmentation method that garantees reliable, flexible, and fast receiver characteristic. This paper concludes with some additional tasks that should be resolved before the full-time alert service.
