A Digital Graphic Equalizer with Variable Q-factor

This paper proposes a variable-Q digital graphic equalizer in which each equalizer filter has different Q-factor depending on the band as well as the gain. The proposed equalizer demonstrates the symmetric frequency response over the audible frequency range. While maintaining the similar level of hardware complexity, the proposed equalizer yields an actual response that is quite close to the desired one, as compared with the conventional equalizers. Also, we investigate how the performance is affected by the center frequencies of the filters.
Signal Quality Enhancement using Perceptual Convolutional Noise Suppression

In this paper, we introduce a novel signal quality enhancement algorithm with a perceptual interference analysis and perceptual convolutional noise suppression. A perceptual convolutional noise is reflected in the audible disturbance that can still be recognized after the additional noise suppression and tonality change which is caused by the noise energy excitation. The enhancement system is organized with a perceptual additional noise suppression part and a perceptual convolutional noise suppression part. Experimental results show that these two parts have an equivalent quality enhancement performance.
Regularized Adaptive High-resolution Image Reconstruction Considering Inaccurate Subpixel Registration

The demand for high-resolution images is gradually increasing, whereas many imaging systems yield aliased and undersampled images during image acquisition. In this paper, we propose a high-resolution image reconstruction algorithm considering inaccurate subpixel registration. A regularized Iterative reconstruction algorithm is adopted to overcome the ill-posedness problem resulting from inaccurate subpixel registration. In particular, we use multichannel image reconstruction algorithms suitable for application with multiframe environments. Since the registration error in each low-resolution has a different pattern, the regularization parameters are determined adaptively for each channel. We propose a methods for estimating the regularization parameter automatically. The preposed algorithm are robust against the registration error noise. and they do not require any prior information about the original image or the registration error process. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithms outperform conventional approaches in terms of both objective measurements and visual evaluation.
Image Downsizing and Upsizing Scheme in the Compressed Domain Using Modified IDCT

According to an evolution of image and video compression technologies, most digital images are in the compressed form. Resizing of these compressed images have various applications such as transmission of resized image according to varying bandwidth, content adaptation for display purpose and etc. Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) is the most popular transformation for image compression. Recently, several researches have been performed to obtain the reconstructed image of original size in the DCT domain after downsampling and upsampling in the DCT domain. Main focus of these researches is to improve quality of the reconstructed image after downsampling and upsampling in the DCT domain In this paper, we present an modified IDCT method to downsize DCT-encoded image. Furthermore, we propose an efficient scheme for image downsampling and upsampling in the DCT domain With these modified IDCT method. The proposed scheme Provides higher PSNR values than the existing schemes In terms of the reconstructed image after halving and doubling in the DCT domain.
-Norm Based Optimal Nonuniform Resampling

The standard approach to signal resampling is to fit the original image to a continuous model and resample the function at a desired rate. We used the compact B-spline function as the continuous model which produces less oscillatory behavior than other tails functions. In the case of nonuniform resampling based on a B-spline model, the digital signal is fitted to a spline model, and then the fitted signal is resampled at a space varying rate determined by the transformation function. It is simple to implement but may suffer from artifacts due to data loss. The main purpose of this paper is the derivation of optimal nonuniform resampling algorithm. For the optimal nonuniform formulation, the resampled signal is represented by a combination of shift varying splines determined by the transformation function. This optimal nonuniform resampling algorithm can be verified from the experiments that It produces less errors.
A New Estimation Method of Video Traffic Specification in QoS-guaranteed Networks

Traffic specification plays a crucial role in the resource reservation for video services over the packet-switching networks. The current development of QoS-guaranteed service still leaves a wide space for the selection of traffic specification. We propose a new method to estimate the traffic specification of variable-bit-rate (VBR) video for deterministic service. The method is based on the concept of empirical envelope and the delay bound. The solution shows to be simple yet it provides excellent network utilization.
3D Reenactment System of Soccer Game

This paper presents a Soccer Game 3D Reencatment System which reenact the Important scene like getting a goal with image processing and computer graphics technologies. KBS Research Institute of Technology has developed the 3D Reenactment System of Soccer Game called ‘VPlay' to provide TV viewers with fresh images in soccer games. Vplay generates the reenactment of exciting and important soccer scenes by using computer graphics. Vplay extracts legion of players from video with color information, and then computes precise positions of players on the ground by using global motion estimation model and playground axis transformation model. The results are applied to locomotion generation module that generates the locomotion of virtual characters automatically. Using predefined motion and model library, Vplay reenacts the important scene in a quick and convenient manner Vplay was developed for live broadcasting of soccer games that demands rapid producing time and was used efficiently during past WorldCup and Asian Game.
Development of a Real-time Sensor-based Virtual Imaging System

In sport programs, real-time virtual imaging system come into notice for new technology which can compose information like team logos, scores. distances directly on playing ground, so it can compensate for the defects of general character generator. In order to synchronize graphics to camera movements, generally two method is used. One is for using sensors attached to camera moving axis and the other is for analyzing camera video itself. KBS technical research institute developed real-time sensor-based virtual imaging system 'VIVA', which uses four sensors on pan, tilt, zoom, focus axis and controls virtual graphic camera in three dimensional coordinates in real-time. In this paper, we introduce our system 'VIVA' and it's technology. For accurate camera tracking we calculated view-point movement occurred by zooming based on optical principal point variation data and we considered field of view variation not only by zoom but also by focus. We developed our system based on three dimensional graphic environment. so many useful three dimensional graphic techniques such as keyframe animation can be used. VIVA was successfully used both in Busan Asian Games and 2002 presidential election. We confirmed that it can be used not only in the field but also in the studio programs in which camera is used within more close range.
Effective Transmission System of Multimedia Services using Eureka-147 DAB

The Eureka-147 Digital Audio Broadcasting(DAB) system is the new international standard for mobile broadcasting services including high-quality audio, program associated data and other multimedia data. In this paper, we design the transport frame structures for the mobile multimedia services by using the configuration of the Eureka-147 DAB multiplex and MPEG system specifications, and then compare their performances in terms of functionality and overhead. Especially, we suggest and analyze the effective transport structures, which are improved in the efficiency of media multiplexing architecture, by removing the functionally overlapped parts between DAB and MPEG systems. In addition, we evaluate the transmission environments of various DAB data channels and demonstrate the transmission error effects on the low bit rate video stream.
A Study on Generation and Parsing System for MPEG-21 Broadcasting Digital Item

Today, thanks to the spread of Internet and the development of various multimedia technologies, broadcasting environment is changing in a way to merging broadcasting and communication environment. In such a new environment, transparent delivery and interoperability between different technologies become an important issue. In ISO/IEC MPEG meeting, MPEG-21 has been established. In MPEG-21, it is discussed actively about big picture to build an infrastructure for the delivery and consumption of multimedia contents. In this paper, we have applied Digital Item in MPEG-21 to broadcasting contents. Broadcasting Digital Item is generated using MPEG-7 MDS for the description of resources as well as Digital Item Declaration, and Digital Item Identification. Furthermore, we develop Digital Item generation system and parsing system. In experiment, we verify the usefulness of Broadcasting Digital Item by generating an education video contents and consuming it at different user environments.
Image Retrieval Using a Composite of MPEG-7 Visual Descriptors

In this paper, to improve the retrieval Performance, an efficient combination of the MPEG-7 visual descriptors, such as the edge histogram descriptor (EHD), the color layout descriptor (CLD), and the homogeneous texture descriptor (HTD), is proposed in the framework of the relevance feedback approach. The EHD represents spatial distribution of edges in local image regions and it is considered as an important feature to represent the content of the image. The CLD specifies spatial distribution of colors and is widely used in image retrieval due to its simplicity and fast operation speed. The HTD describes precise statistical distribution of the image texture. Both the feature vector for the query image and the weighting factors among the combined descriptors are adaptively determined during the relevance feedback. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves the retrieval performance significantly tot natural images.
