A Study on the Aesthetics in PRADA Sports Fashion

The purpose of this study is to analyze the aesthetic characteristics of PRADA's sports fashion, leading the fashion trend and one of the most influenced designers in 1990's, and thereby, helps to forecast them in the future. We studied the concept of sports fashion and the historic background of PRADA sports fashion. We also used corroborative method resolving Internet illustrated magazine, fashion journals and magazines so as to analyze the aesthetic and formative features from 1990's up to now. The results were summarized as follows ; The sports fashion in 1990's was classified into functional sportswear and town sports look. The functional sportswear can be separated into active sportswear and street sportswear. Town sports look that has been combined the elements of design in active sportswear had characters slim silhouette and simple details influenced by minimalism and reflected on the mainstream of 1990's lifestyle. Especially, PRADA's town-wear using high-tec textiles for sportswear affected on other couturiers and settled down them in the world wide fashion trend with her aesthetic expression. The aesthetic characteristics of PRADA's sports fashion appear the zenith of the minimalism and the elements of postmodernism which expressed remarkably the advanced future and familiar past at the same time as like high-tec materials, and classic silhouettes with functional details. Finally, we are able to anticipate that the aesthetics of PRADA sports look will be continued in the 21C with concerning about well-being, health, and sports & leisure.
Benefits Sought and Knitwear Purchasing Behavior of Female College Students in the U.S.

The main objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between benefits segmentation and knitwear purchasing behavior of college female students in the U.S. The questionnaires for this survey were developed to measure knitwear purchasing behavior and benefits segmentation. The questionnaire was administered to 119 female college students in the University of California. The data was analyzed by percentage, frequency, mean, factor analysis, Cluster Analysis and ANOVA, Duncan Multiple Range test. The female college students in the U.S. were classified into fourth subdivisions by the cluster analysis. In the case of fashion information sources of knit wear, significant differences were found according to benefits sought subdivision in observation of famous people's clothing, fashion articles in magazines and newspapers, TV advertisements, Newspaper advertisements, advice of salespeople, and Catalogs. The evaluation criteria of knit wear product of consumers were significantly different depending on benefits sought subdivision in design/style, quality of construction, fashionable, brand and store name, pleasing to others, prestige, and sexy. The store attributes of knitwear product of consumers were significantly different depending on benefits sought subdivision in friendliness of sales personnel, product knowledge of sales personnel, brand names, new fashion, and variety of products. The outlook for the industry of knitwear look to remain bright, there should be a continuous effort to research and invest in consumer satisfaction of knitwear.
Clothing Preferences among Mother-Daughter Dyads

The purpose of this study was to find out relationships among mother-daughter dyads in clothing preferences and possesses. Subjects consisted of 75 female elementary school students, 64 female highschool students, and their mothers(139) who were currently residing in Daejeon, Korea. The research was an ex-post factor relational study and instruments for the study were 24 clothing stimuli and 6 questions for measuring clothing preferences and possesses. Results were as follows; In clothing preference for mother daughter dyads there was a tendency emerged that a mother's clothing preference affected on clothing evaluation of their daughter and there was more powerful dyads relationship between mother and daughter highschool students group than elementary school students group. The clothing preferences of the 3 age group showed significant differences. In clothing category, daughters preferred skirt style while mothers preferred pants style. In masculinity and feminity of clothing design the elementary school students and mother group preferred more feminine design than high school students, however complex and simple dimension of clothing no significant differences existed and all the their age group preferred simpler design.
A Study on Relationships between Lifestyle and Clothing Shopping Orientation - Focused on Korean University Students -

The purposes of this study are to investigate dimensions of lifestyle and clothing shopping orientation of university students as consumers in Korea and to analyze the relationships between lifestyle and clothing shopping orientation. The research method for this study is survey and subjects were 473 male and female university students. The questionnaire is consisted of measurement items for lifestyle, clothing shopping orientation, and demographic attributions. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, T-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test, using SPSS program. The results are as follows. First, 4 factors were emerged on lifestyle (achievement-oriented, economics-oriented, appearance-oriented and freedom/culture-oriented) and clothing shopping orientation had 4 factors (reasonable shopping, informational shopping, conspicuous shopping, and convenient shopping). Second, there were significant relationships between lifestyle and clothing shopping orientation. Especially, there were high positive relationship between economics-oriented lifestyle and reasonable shopping orientation, and appearance-oriented lifestyle and informational shopping orientation. Third, lifestyle and clothing shopping orientation had much differences by subjects' demographics attributions.
The Modernization of Stage Costume of Opera "Faust" - Focused on A Hero & Heroine's Costume -

Modernization movement has affected classical operas. Today, classical operas are often re-interpreted from the modern perspective and played differently only with the storyline maintained. This study examines modernization of opera costumes. For this study, the author worked as one of costume design staff for "Faust," which was played in Sungnam Art Center from November 24, 2005 to November 27, 2005 in commemoration of the opening of the center. The following outcomes are drawn from this study. Two types of costumes were designed for Faust. An old black shirt, grey checkered trousers, and a white gown were designed to express the old Faust, a respected scholar in his 50s, who was erudite and competent. Red checker of the shirt represented passion and blue checker of the shirt symbolized youth. The cotton trousers were beige, the most favorite color among male college students. For Mephistopheles, a white suit, black shirt, and white neck tie were designed to express the Devil, who changed his face instantly. A white suit symbolized that Mephistopheles looked like an angel, while a black shirt suggested that Mephistopheles, in reality, was the Devil. A white one-piece dress and light jade green cardigan were designed for Margarete, who was innocent and virtuous. The white dress represented innocence and purity of Margarete and the light jade green cardigan symbolized a maiden pure.
A Study of Relationship between Self Confidence in Fashion Coordination and Fashion Information Search of Men - Focused on Men in Their Twenties Living in Busan -

The purpose of this study was to reveal the relationship between self confidence in fashion coordination and fashion information search of men. This study also examine the utility of services of fashion coordination in fashion store. A questionnaire was developed and data was collected from 248 male consumer in the age of
living in Busan and it was analyzed by the statistical method of frequencies, factor analysis, analysis of variance and regression. The results of this study were as follows: First, information contents of fashion coordination include four dimension, such as fashion style information, knowledge about fashion item, way of putting-on for stylish appearance and beauty information. And degree of search fashion information was significant different among groups classified by consumer's level of self confidence in fashion coordination. Second, multiple regression analysis revealed that consumer's self confidence in fashion coordination could be predicted from the amount of search fashion information contents and information sources. In conclusion, fashion information search was important factor which influenced on self confidence in fashion coordination. and male consumers perceived fashion coordination services in fashion store will be useful information.
A Study on the Visual Image by Pattern Drafting of Tailored Collar

The purpose of this study is to give the guideline to the pattern designing by supplying various images of the transformed shape of tailored collar with the location and angle of gorge line and laying measurement of the tailored collar while designing the tailored collar. The results of this study are as follows : Images of the sample at the case of 1cm of laying measurement looks 'urban', 'light', 'sharp', 'young', 'fashionable' and 'narrow' than that at the case of 7cm. When the laying measurement increases, the image of the sample looks more 'classical' and 'boorish'. The image of the sample 'light', 'sensuous' and 'young' at the case of sample of which laying measurements of the collar was 3cm. Second, at the case of sample whose laying measurements of the collar was 5cm, it was shown that the low location of gorge line made the image of the sample 'soft' and 'short'. On the other hand the image of the sample looked 'hard', 'keen' and 'long' by the high location of gorge line. Third, at the case of sample of which laying measurements of the collar was 7cm, low location of gorge line made the image of the sample look short. However, normal location of gorge line made the image of the sample looked 'fashionable'. The images of the samples of which laying measurements of the collar were 3cm, 5cm and 7cm, respectively, had changed with the angle of gorge line. First, the high angle of gorge line made the image of the sample 'rigid' and 'keen' at the case of sample of which laying measurements of the collar was 3cm. The high angle of gorge line made the image of the sample looked 'boorish' and 'singular'.
A Study of Preference about Wedding Dress Design according to Body Shape for Adult Women

The purpose of this study is to preview artistic presentation, factors of designing and ornamentation, to provide useful information to the wedding dress industry in developing consumer-oriented design of wedding dress. Also, this study is to investigate relativity between individual characteristics, such as demographic character and body figures, and preference of consumers, in order to learn if there is any pattern of consumers decision making, and to help consumers by giving tips for their wedding dress shopping. According to this study, I can see that when modern South-Korean adult women choose their wedding dress, they consider many factors just like silhouette, detail, fabric material and so on, then they select their own best dress by grasping their body characteristics.
The Relationship between Hair Style and Clothing Image Preference by Personality Types in College Students

The purpose of this study was to determine if personality types affect hair style and clothing image. Personality types was applied using Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(MBTI). . The results were summarized as follows. 1. There was only significant relationship between hair style and personality type. Sensing type preferred hair wave style than intuition type. 2. There were several significant differences between clothing image and personality type. Extroversion preferred avantgarde clothing image more than introversion type. Intuition type preferred exotic and avantgarde clothing image more than sensing type. Feeling type preferred active clothing image more than thinking type. Judging type preferred elegance clothing image more than perceiving type. 3. There was significant relationship between hair style and clothing image preference by personality types in college students. Intuition type preferred exotic and avantgarde clothing image and waveless hair style.
The Effects of Image of Discount Stores on Fashion Brand Equity

A purpose of this research was to analyze an effect of discount stores image on brand equity of fashion brand. One hundred ninety-four women living in Seoul and its suburb were surveyed for this study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, multiple regression, and ANOVA were used for this study. As the results, first, discount stores image was classified into five factors such as convenience, service, store atmosphere, familarity, and easy use. Second, brand equity was divided into three factors such as brand loyalty, perceived quality and brand recognition. Generally, discount stores images were correlated with brand equity factor. Third, results revealed that service, easy use, convenience, and familarity were 32% of the explained variance in brand loyalty. Also, store atmosphere convenience, service, and easy use were 26% of the explained variance in perceived quality. Results revealed Store Atmosphere and easy use, and familarity were 21% of the explained variance in brand recognition. Based on these results, discount stores in private brand marketing strategies would be suggested.
The Analytical Study on the Plural Eclecticism and the Aesthetic Characteristics through the Artwork of Vivienne Westwood

This study is to investigate the previous cases of plural eclecticism through the works of Vivienne Westwood, who contributed to the spread of innovative and eclectic English fashion out to the world as well as to review plurality and its phenomena since the 20th century more systematically. In terms of research methodology, the phenomena of plural eclecticism were examined from social and cultural perspectives, whereas bibliographic research and case study were performed for the phenomena of eclecticism in fashion. From the perspective of plural eclecticism, the results from analyzing the works of Vivienne Westwood by the divisions of temporal eclecticism, spatial eclecticism, and contingent eclecticism are described in the following. First, Vivienne Westwood emphasized historicism tendency of temporal eclecticism. Her efforts to try to modernize history went beyond ages and social classes including men's clothing, prostitutes' costumes, craft items, and dresses for royal family. Second, her spatial eclecticism was reflected on the first collection themes inspired by the American Indians or borrowed from the names of Voodoo in the Tropics. Finally, infra-fashion as an expression of contingent eclecticism of Vivienne Westwood's works can be interpreted as plural eclecticism which shows contingent eclecticism and historic eclecticism at the same time. This study aimed at proving preceding implications concerning recent plural eclecticism through the analysis of the works of Vivienne Westwood who tried a radical design of plural eclecticism in an effort to modernize the tradition of England in the circumstances where a number of trends and styles exist together, with their own uniqueness and values.
A Study on Fashion Designs Applying Patchwork Technique and the Characteristics of Mondrian's Works

Such trend offers new fashion designs as a formative art with creative spontaneity. The purpose of this study is to seek to work out fashion design methods whereby fashions can be developed into an art form embracing handicraft premium textures, geometric formativeness and traditional beauty so as to satisfy the individualist expression desires of modern people who pursue practicality, originality, and beauty of simplicity. This art form also allows new images to be expressed. The corresponding methods studied include the space and technique of patchwork that can create artistry and aesthetic functionality into differentiated levels of images, and geometric ion from Mondrian' works. Fashion designs based on patchwork technique and the characteristics of Mondrian's works reveal that the patchwork technique using diverse materials is an artistic technique with high handicraft value. This technique provides new value to traditional aesthetic materials of clothing, and that Mondrian's unique designs are very effective in developing new fashion designs because they provide artistry and unique effects to modern fashion expression.
The Effects of Corporate Social Responsibility on Brand Attachment and Brand Equity

The purpose of this study was to exam the effect of fashion social responsibility of fashion corporate brand on brand attachment and equity. A total of 217 female college students in Seoul and its suburb responded for this study. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and multiple regression were used for this study. As the result, first, corporate social responsibility was classified into five factors such as social service, public local facility, economic responsibility, consumer protection and environmental protection factors. Second, brand attachment was classified into four factors such as love, interest, perception and trust factors. Third, brand equity was classified into four factors such as loyalty, quality-image, marketing and recognition factors. Generally, fashion social responsibility factors was correlated with higher scores on brand attachment and brand equity. Finally, the results revealed that corporate social responsibility accounted for 12% of the explained variance brand attachment, also brand attachment accounted for 32% of the explained variance brand equity, while Corporate social responsibility accounted for 14% of the explained variance brand equity. Based on these results, fashion brand marketing strategies would be suggested.
