Analysis of Dose by Items According to Act on Safety Control of Radiation Around Living Environment

The study attempted to analyze items presented in Act on safety control of radioactive rays around living environment, which has been recently enacted. The test items have been divided into cosmic rays, cosmic rays, terrestrial radiation, and byproduct, etc., and the selected locations for measurement included an airplane at 8000m in the air, mountainous area at 1000m above sea level, 15m-underground building, construction site, and seashore at 0m altitude. The test showed that, based on cosmic rays, plane at 8000m in the air had 4.91mSv/y of effective dose per year. The mountainous area at 1000m above sea level, which was chosen to measure cosmic rays and terrestrial radiation, was measured 0.35mSv higher than the seashore at 0m in altitude due to the effect of cosmic rays and terrestrial radiation from the greater height above sea level. The construction site, chosen as a location to measure byproduct, showed the highest value among the items with 6.66mSv, which is as 10times high as that of a completed building. The seashore at 0m in altitude had 5.96mSv, and, 15m-underground building, based on terrestrial radiation, was the lowest with 4.91mSv. This suggests that, despite the assumption that terrestrial radiation will have greater effect deeper underground, it did not affect inside the building significantly. This study showed that the items presented in Act on safety control of radioactive rays around living environment were not close to effective dose limit for radiation workers proposed by ICRP. However, they were between 4 and 7 times higher than that for general public. This suggests that there should be continuous research on and attention to Safe Management of Daily Surrounding Radiation Act, which is still at its beginning stage.

Diagnostic imaging systems play a critical role in obtaining anatomical images, which increases the frequency of inspection all over the world. However the likelihood that patients are exposed to relatively high radiation dose increases, which may lead to an increase of patient dose due to unnecessary radiation exposure unless appropriate management is accompanied. Thus the revised edition of IEC 60601-2-44 which is constancy tests for CT equipment which is designated as special medical equipment and is subject to safety management was studied. The results suggested the 3rd has been revised rationally in order to overcome the limitations in the 2nd by adopting clear and enhanced references, which implies the replacement of IEC 60601-2-44 2nd edition with IEC 60601-2-44 3rd will prevent the patients from the harm from improper medical equipment.
A Study on the Optimization of Exposure condition at Lumbar projection Using Blind Test

This study intended to investigate the optimum conditions for lumbar test that has the highest level of irradiation conditions among general test sites. To to this, the most widely used irradiation conditions in terms of statistics were set as standards; test groups applied with DMF were selected; tests groups suitable for clinical trials were selected by using suggested patient dose. Blind tests were conducted by 10 specialists and radiologists. The results suggested that under the optimum conditions, the radiation dose reduction of 2.09 mGy, 4.42 mGy and 3.65 mGy can be achieved in forward-backward test, lateral test and 4-direction test, respectively. There is a need of further studies on the optimization of irradiation conditions in accordance with the conditions of patients.
Suggestion for Good Manufacturing Practice of Radiopharmaceuticals

This study suggests considerations for legislation of radiopharmaceutical manufacturing practice according as the Korea Pharmaceutical Affairs Act and guidelines on foreign radiopharmaceutical manufacturing practice. Pharmaceuticals should be verified safety, effectiveness, and uniformity. Therefore, it is expected that the efficiency of the administration of radiopharmaceuticals increase and nation's health promote if rational manufacturing management to consider of radiopharmaceutical properties is legislated.
Barium Compounds through Monte Carlo Simulations Compare the Performance of Medical Radiation Shielding Analysis

This study made a tentative estimation of the shielding rate of barium compound by thickness through monte carlo simulation to apply medical radiation shielding products that can replace existing lead. Barium sulfate(
) was used for the shielding material, and thickness of the shielding material specimen was simulated from 0.1 mm to 5 mm by applying
of specimen area,
of density of barium sulfate, and
density of lead. Entered source was simulated with 10kVp Step in consecutive X-ray energy spectrum(40 kVp ~ 120 kVp). Absorption probability in 40 kVp ~ 60 kVp showed same shielding rate with lead in 3 mm ~ 5 mm of thickness, but it was identified that under 2 mm, the shielding rate was a bit lower than the existing lead shielding material. Also, the shielding rate in 70 kVp ~ 120 kVp energy band showed similar performance as the existing lead shielding material, but it was tentatively estimated as fairly low shielding rate below 0.5 mm. This study estimated the shielding rate of barium compound as the thickness function of x-ray energy band for medical radiation through monte carlo simulation, and made comparative analysis with existing lead. Also, this study intended to verify application validity of the x-ray shielding material for medical radiation of pure barium sulfate. As a result, it was estimated that the shielding effect was 95% higher than the existing lead 1.5 mm in at least 2 mm thickness of barium compound in medical radiation energy band 70 kVp ~ 120 kVp, and this result is considered valid to be provided as a base data in weight lightening production of radiation shielding product for medical radiation.
A Comparison between Three Dimensional Radiation Therapy and Intensity Modulated Tadiation Yherapy on Prostate Cancer

In this study, we evaluated to the superiority of treatment techniques on prostate cancer, apply to each other treatment techniques-3D conformal therapy versus IMRT-using dose distribution and dose coverages. Obtained 10 patients CT simulation, divided tumor volume and critical organs. Prescription dose was 80 Gy on tumor volume and Each of plans was set by two different plans. As a result, Dose coverage was superior to IMRT. The IMRT's tumor absorbed dose(100.2%) was close to prescription doses. Normal tissue(bladder, rectal, bowel Lt Rt fumoral head) absorbed dose rate was superior. In other words, the radiation therapy of prostate cancer with intensity modulated radiation therapy was better than conformal radiation therapy on dose.
The Effects of Magnetic Field on TLD Glow Curve

Thermoluminescent dosimeter utilizes the fact that when irradiated specimen is heated up, some part of the absorbed energy is emitted from the specimen as light with longer wavelength. This research aims at analyzing the glow curves of four TLD-100 exposed to a magnetic field and those of other four TLD-100 not exposed to one by treating them with heat and irradiating them, which are commonly used as thermoluminescent dosimeter, in the same condition. As the result of the experiment, regarding the electrons captured by irradiation, some of the electrons of lower traps were combined with positive holes of valence band through the exposure to a magnetic field, and the peak size decreased by 48%. The reduction in the size of the lower traps caused the TLD-100 exposed to a magnetic field to display a low level of dose. In addition, low traps estimated activation energies are 1.6 eV and 1.5 eV.
A Survey on the Oral Health in Accordance with The Oral Health Behavior of Children in Kindergarten

This study was performed in order to suggest the basic informations about the proper oral health babits for kindergarten children, through the investigation of the oral health survey and their oral haelth behaviors. 213 of kindergarten children age 6 were surveyed who has lived at Daegu city and the examined data were analysed by use of spss 18.0 ver.program. The children who had performed the toothbrushing for 3 or 4 times a day, were estimated as high level in voluntary under taking of toothbrushing. It revealed that the low of the caries experience rate in the group of the sabiects who performed toothbrushing at every after meals. On the other hands, both the caries experience index of children who had perfomed toothbrushing with the rolling method and the dental plague index of children who had performed the toothbrushing just the morning time of the oral examination day, wer reveealed as high scores, due to the lack of the abilities to perform the toothbrusing with the proper method. It was needed to educate children for practical performing the toothbrush as well as for traning it with the right way, in order to promote the oral health for kindergarten children.
The Effects of Yoga Program on Idiopathic Scoliosis

The purpose of this study in the patient suffering from scoliosis analyse the degree of scoliosis, Cobb's angle, by Yoga exercise therapy and then find the effects of Yoga program on idiopathic scoliosis. In this study, yoga program restores flexibility and elasticity by relaxing and contracting muscles around vertebrea. It could help scoliosis from balancing agonistic muscle, antagonistic muscle and synergistic muscle during exercise. so did pelvis movement and vertebral twisting movement. The subject for this experiment was a meddle school girl diagnosed with scoliosis in C hospital in Gwang-ju city. In order to find the effects of yoga program on idiopathic scoliosis, conducted yoga program 60minutes a day, 5days a week for 12weeks. Before and after experiment, measured Cobb's angle by radiation and verified effects. First, master of yoga and chiropractor studied and made movement together. Second, Yoga program-developed about scoliosis was prescribed for the meddle school girl suffering from scoliosis during 12weeks. Third, Feasibility and effect was verified on idiopathic scoliosis by yoga program. As a result, the amount of curvature was reduced about 5degrees than before and improved the idiopathic scoliosis. Lots of Yoga movements help patients of idiopathic scoliosis to be improved. It shows that Yoga program could give adolescent scoliosis a hand.
Development of Human-Head-Mimicking Phantom for Brain Treatment Using Focused Ultrasound

In this study, human head-mimicking phantom was developed for brain disease treatment study using focused ultrasound. Acoustic parameters of skin, skull and brain were investigated through literature investigation and adequate substitutes according to each tissue were suggested. In the case of skin phantom, construction ratio of glycerol-based TMM phantom was controlled to mimic real skin. The suitability of skull substitutes was evaluated through measurement of acoustic parameters. In the case of brain phantom, transparent egg white phantom was used to observe thermal properties of focused ultrasound. Combined human-head-mimicking phantom using each substitutes was fabricated for development of brain disease treatment protocol. Denaturation of brain phantom according to ultrasonic condition was observed for validation.
