Recently, the character image processing technology using portable device camera image at home and abroad are actively conducted, but Practical use are lower rate because of accuracy and time-consuming process problems. In this paper, we propose the license plate recognition method based on geometric information from portable device camera image. In the extracted license plate region we recognize characters using the chain code and the Thickness information through the cumulative projected edge after performing the pre-processing work considering the angle difference, the contrast enhancement and the low resolution from portable device camera image. The proposed algorithm is effective and accurate recognition by light and reducing the processing time. And, the results from the character recognition success rate was 95%. In the future, we will research about license plate recognition algorithm using long distance image or added motion blur image.

As digital contents become vast in quantity, it takes long time for users to search the digital contents they want, which is a problem that has arisen. Therefore, it is required to have the technology that analyzes vast digital contents and extracts the appropriate contents for users in order to provide them with contents they want. For a fast searching of digital contents suitable for users, it is necessary to have the technology of filtering for digital contents. In this paper, we propose a method of filtering digital contents suitable for individual users. The method suggested in this paper is to analyze case-based information in digital contents and provide the digital contents suitable for individual users. The case for using digital contents is used for analysis of users` preference. Various simulations were conducted to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

While Snoop improves network performance by using local retransmission in case of packet loss in wireless network, it has security vulnerability to be unable to countermeasure against falsified ACKs attacks. Therefore in this paper, we suggest a modified Snoop with an extra buffer in addition to original Snoop buffer. Even though packets are exhausted in original buffer by falsified ACKs attacks, proposed Snoop can locally retransmit the packets saved in the extra buffer. The simulation by NS-2 shows that proposed Snoop countermeasure efficiently against falsified ACKs attack and builds securer Snoop protocol.

Recently, as new weapons are being developed, test equipments to test their functions inevitably require real-time features. However, since test equipments based on Windows can not support real-time requirements, we have no choice but to use third-party solutions such as RTX or INtime. This leads to increase the development cost of each test equipment. This paper suggests an real-time implemented kernel(RTiK) which operates as a device driver on Windows. RTiK provides another timer using the Local APIC of x86 microprocessors. It supports real-time requirements by periodically executing the required services using Windows-independent timer interrupts to guarantee task deadlines. To reduce the interrupt latency, we used deferred procedure calls provided by Windows. We also used the export driver to implement and modify user-defined functions without accessing the RTiK internals. Using an oscilloscope, we prove that the RTiK kernel proposed in this paper guarantees up to 0.1ms periods.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.045
In this paper, we propose RFID network agent based user mobility support mechanism for secure information transmissions. When a user with RFID tag who enjoys service moves to different attachment points, the user mobility is supported to provide continuously service and the information can be securely transmitted. Although there is an existing study for providing user mobility, it has a problem which the handover latency time is long. To settle this problem, we present a scheme for minimizing handover latency time and compare handover latency time of existing and proposed scheme. We confirm that proposed mechanism has low latency time than existing mechanism by mathematical analysis using the queuing theory and show that proposed mechanism is more superior to the existing mechanism.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.054
Applying the conventional machine-learning method which has been frequently used in health-care area has several fundamental problems for modern U-health service analysis. First of all, we are still lack of application examples of the traditional method for our modern U-health environment because of its short term history of U-health study. Second, it is difficult to apply the machine-learning method to our U-health service environment which requires real-time management of disease because the method spends a lot of time in the process of learning. Third, we cannot implement a personalized U-health diagnosis system using the conventional method because there is no way to assign weights on the disease-related variables although various kinds of machine-learning schemes have been proposed. In this paper, a novel diagnosis scheme PCADP is proposed to overcome the problems mentioned above. PCADP scheme is a personalized diagnosis method and it makes the bio-data analysis just a `process` in the U-health service system. In addition, we offer a semantics modeling of the U-health ontology framework in order to describe U-health data and service specifications as meaningful representations based on this PCADP. The PCADP scheme is a kind of statistical diagnosis method which has characteristics of flexible structure, real-time processing, continuous improvement, and easy monitoring of decision process. Upto the best of authors` knowledge, the PCADP scheme and ontology framework proposed in this paper reveals one of the best characteristics of flexible structure, real-time processing, continuous improvement, and easy monitoring among recently developed U-health schemes.

In the case of operating steam generators for long periods in nuclear power plants, sludge is accumulated inside the steam generator. This phenomenon could adversely affect the operation of the steam generator. This paper is about the design of a sludge washing apparatus which can remove the sludge efficiently and the control methods of the apparatus. In this paper, to design the sludge washing apparatus, firstly, we design nozzles for spraying high-pressure water through applying mathematical models and lab tests. Secondly, we establish the mathematical theory for performance parameters required to drive the sludge washing apparatus. Thirdly, we design physical structures of the apparatus based on the established performance parameters. Finally, we present the control methods of the apparatus. The sludge washing apparatus presented in this paper moves along the walls of the steam generator according to cracks in the tube array, and spray the high pressure water to remove the sludge. By this way, a relatively large amount of sludge formed in the inner surfaces can be washed very effectively.

With the introduction of smart phones, the augmented reality became popular and is increasingly drawing attention. The augmented reality in the mobile devices is becoming an individual area to study. Many applications of the augmented reality have been studied, but there are just a few studies on its combination with artificial intelligence in games. In this study, an artificial intelligence algorithm was proposed, which dynamically converts the state of the 3D agent in the augmented reality environment using the 3-Axis acceleration sensor in the smart phone. To control the state of the agent to which the artificial intelligence is applied, users used to directly enter the data or use markers to detect them. The critical values, which were determined via test, were given to the acceleration sensor to ensure accurate state conversion. In this paper, makerless tracking technology was used to implement the augmented reality, and the state of the agent was dynamically converted using the 3-Axis acceleration seonsor.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.094
In this paper, a WLED communication system with SC-FDMA technique is proposed. OFDM is a promising technique to realize high-speed WLED communication system. However, because of the PAPR, the system performance can be significantly compromised by non-linear distortions in the transmission chain. Furthermore, the overload current due to peak signal power lead the WLED equipment over bright which is harmful to equipment life and human‘s eye. The novel WLED communication system proposed in this paper solved these problems by using SC-FDMA technique which has an inherent low PAPR property. The severity of PAPR performances expressed by CCDF curve and the BER performances under different modulation schemes are analyzed in this paper.
Detection and Prediction of Alternative Splicing with One-leaf One-node Tree
Park, Min-Seo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 10, 2010, Pages 102~110
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.102
Alternative splicing is an important process in gene expression. Alternative Splicing can lead to mutations and diseases. Most studies detect alternatively spliced genes with ESTs (Expressed Sequence Tags). However, reliance on ESTs might have some weaknesses in predicting alternative splicing. ESTs have been stored in the libraries. The EST libraries are often not clearly organized and annotated. We can pick erroneous ESTs. It is also difficult to predict whether or not alternative splicing exists for those genes where ESTs are not available. To address these issues and to improve the quality of detection and prediction for alternative splicing, we propose the One-leaf One-node Tree Algorithm that uses pre-mRNAs. It is achieved by codons, three nucleotides, as attributes for each chromosome in Arabidopsis thaliana. The proposed decision tree shows that alternative and normal splicing have different splicing patterns according to triplet nucleotides in each chromosome. Based on the patterns, alternative splicing of unlabeled genes can also be predicted.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.120
Today we always can take a picture and enjoy it anywhere and anytime with a propagation of digital camera and camera phone. Even though the amount of digital picture content produced in every day life has been increasing, the way of enjoying it was just with phones or PC monitors. A small size screen of a cell phone and a desktop monitor are not suitable environment for enjoying digital picture, so the new market for digital photo frame has been opened. Until now, various kind of digital photo frames of many manufactures have been released for several years, but they have similar interaction way each other due to the limitation of their hardware specification so don`t fill the intuitive mental model that users have about the product called a photo frame. Thus, this research aims to suggest an interaction way of digital photo frame providing with better usability and emotional satisfaction according to the spatial environment that it`s located and users` behaviors.

Since the revised enforcement ordinance of the broadcasting legislation, Product Placement that was introduced in May, 2010 has expanded the stable income of broadcasting contents and broadcasting advertising industry, and improved the quality of the broadcasting contents and its service. However, as a result of Product Placement enforcement for the past 3 months, it reveals many problems, and is blamed for being unable to meet the intent of the law. Accordingly, Product Placement is not established properly. Thus, it is required to improve the detailed action plan for revitalization of Broadcasting Contents and Broadcasting Advertising Industry as originally intended. For example, the outsourcing production company involved in producing programs like dramas and the broadcaster have failed to reach negotiation on distributing proportion and it is keenly in need of its related study. This study is to cover the current status and the problems of introducing Product Placement, and is expected to provide the policy implications and the practical lessons. However, it displays limits that it ends in exploring and policy debate. It is henceforth expected to continue various studies of measuring the effectiveness, strategy, creative, and so forth based on discussion of introducing Product Placement.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.152
Modern comics find their roots in caricatures, which have a basic element of comics as a combination of wrings and drawings. In three East Asian countries, new media, comics have been developed by joining modern arts and cartoons which is a news form of western comics. As modern comics have evolved according to situations of the three countries, they expand from the satire on the system, foreign invasions, and internal corruption to the enlightenment of the people. However, the criticism on the system lead to the oppression, and the imperialism in East Asian countries enforce the agitation, war engagement, propaganda of the colonialism on the comics. Current East Asian comics have been occupying the largest part in the world comics, and have their roots in the modern comics. So it is meaningful to investigate the characteristic of modern East Asian comics.
Bricolage Showed in Peter Brook`s Work & `The Empty Space`
Paik, Hoon-Kie ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 10, 2010, Pages 161~171
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.161
Peter Brook has been often referred to as the most important contemporary theater director in the West. The fact that he has directed many plays without being tied to a single theatrical theory occasionally makes people think he is a eclectic imitator. But when you carefully observe his work, you can understand that his openness is nothing else but the pursuit and examination of theatrical communication. In this context, Brook`s idea reminds us of Bricolage. Bricolage has been widely known after the publication of "The Savage Minds". L
vy-Strauss used the word to describe characteristic patterns of mythological thought in compared with modern scientific thought and regarded it as a system of thought that we need to restore. Director Peter Brook have sought effective ways to fill the empty space with his broad view of theatre and life. His consistent attempt reveals positive theatrical idea with the expansive possibilities of Bricolage thought.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.172
The study on works motivated from interest in the nature of matters and inherent visual-perceptual structure in them aims at expressing formative continuity of the connections of three dimensions of simple geometrical shapes such as circles and lines, which are characteristics of shape of molecules. With such a purpose, this study examined the geometrical shapes in modern arts and structural connection and symbolism of molecule structure, and based on such considerations, it expressed successive formative beauty which comes from repetitive connection between units by creating stereogram of simple geometrical shapes of molecule structure. The types of works include a method of connecting the units of molecule models and molecules seen in electron microscope with lines as a parameter and connecting units directly, which are used to express body accessory and metallic sculptures. Consequently, it attempted formation occurring spatial composition of continuity of division and duplication through direct connection between units and circular continuity coming from connection of simple geometrical shapes of molecule images such as spheres and curves transformed into stereogram.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 10, 2010, Pages 209~218
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.209
The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of newspaper contents producers` role stress and burnout on their job satisfaction. For this, a survey was performed, of which the subjects were selected out of a great number of journalists employed in several newspapers. Finally, a total of 229 completed questionnaires were used for statistical inspections, such as correlation analysis and multivariate regression analysis. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, it is demonstrated that, the more stress journalists have with respect to role ambiguity, repetitive duties, and role conflict, which are three of the four factors causing role stress, they are less likely to have job satisfaction. However, role overload, the remaining factor of role stress, is shown to have nothing to do with job satisfaction despite it actually causes job stress most. Also, it is ascertained that role ambiguity among the aforementioned four factors of job stress has the most positive effect on job satisfaction in comparison. Second, burnout is shown to have negative correlation with job satisfaction. That is, it is identified that, the more burnout such as emotional exhaustions, depersonalization, and depreciation of personal accomplishment journalists perceive, they are less likely to have job satisfaction. In addition, it is become clear that depreciation of personal accomplishment, among the factors of burnout, has the strongest impact on job satisfaction.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.237
Nerve conduction studies (NCS) are the most objective measure of nerve function and essential for the diagnosis of sub-clinical neuropathy in diabetes mellitus and diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN). This study evaluates the characteristic of electrophysiological abnormalities in DPN. Electrodiagnostic data from 120 patients with diabetic polyneuropathies and 77 control subjects were reviewed. Motor nerve conduction velocities (MNCV), distal motor latencies (DML), compound muscle action potential (CMAP) amplitudes, No potential frequency and conduction block were analyzed. Data were normalized based on normative reference values, and the proportion of nerves with abnormal values in the lower and upper limbs were evaluated. DPN was systemic demyelinating peripheral polyneuropathy and more severe abnormal nerve conduction was found in lower limbs than in upper limbs. The abnormal degree was more severe in peroneal nerve. It was no statistically significant difference of conduction block in control and DPN group. Our findings suggest that DPN had more common and severe peroneal nerve involvement in the motor nerve conduction studies (MNCS). These findings have important implications for the electrophysiological evaluation of DPN.

In the United States, a marked emphasis on personal achievement has been among enduring values characterizing American culture from the beginning of the republic. Particularly, Americans have attached great value to the spirit of self-reliance in striving for personal achievement. However, there have been few empirical studies focusing on the effects of Americans` self-reliant spirit on American electoral politics. Through a field experimentation focusing on the voters of Portage County in Ohio, this study examined the effects of Americans` self-reliant spirit on the evaluations of presidential candidates` personal traits, which constitute the candidates` character. The results of this study demonstrated that American voters evaluated those presidential candidates who were described as self-reliant significantly more favorably than the presidential candidates who were not so described, for 8 out of the 11 personal traits. The findings provide meaningful evidence for ascertaining the potential and legitimacy of the influences of the spirit of self-reliance, in the American society including electoral politics.

Application of the Level Set Method for Free Surface Modeling
Lee, Hae-Gyun ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 10, 2010, Pages 451~455
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.451
Hydraulics usually deals with flows with free surface. When the surface curvature is small, the assumption of hydrostatic pressure distribution is enough. However, in the case, when the curvature is big, the non-hydrostatic pressure distribution should be taken into account and the Navier-Stokes equations should be employed instead of the depth-averaged shallow water equations. For the simulation of two immiscible fluids with different characteristics (e.g. water and air, water and oil), the level set method is selected for this purpose. The developed model is applied to classical dam break problem and the computational results are compared with the experimental data. The effectiveness of the developed model is confirmed.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 10, 2010, Pages 479~493
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.10.10.479
Along with the transformation of the knowledge-based environment, e-learning has become a main teaching and learning method, prompting various research efforts to be conducted in this field. One major research area in e-learning involves adaptive learning systems that provide personalized learning content according to each learner`s characteristics by taking into consideration a variety of learning circumstances. Active research on ontology-based adaptive learning systems has recently been conducted to provide more efficient and adaptive learning content. In this paper, we design and propose an adaptive learning system based on the concept lattice of Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) with the same objectives as those of ontology approaches. However, we are in pursuit of a system that is suitable for learning of specific domains and one that allows users to more freely and easily build their own adaptive learning systems. The proposed system automatically classifies the learning objects and concepts of an evolved domain in the structure of a concept lattice based on the relationships between the objects and concepts. In addition, the system adaptively constructs and presents the learning structure of the concept lattice according to each student`s level of knowledge, learning style, learning preference and the learning state of each concept.
