Fast and Accurate Algorithm for Motion Estimation in Mobile Environments
Kim, Jun-Ho ; Oh, Il-Seok ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 3, 2010, Pages 1~9
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.3.001
In this paper, we propose a new method of improving accuracy of motion estimation in mobile environments, compared with Rosten's algorithm. The present method selects corners as feature points. The Rosten's algorithm uses simple addition and subtraction to detect the corners. Although it has the advantage of faster processing speed, Rosten's algorithm has a drawback of low performance in motion estimation. We use the NCC(Normalized Cross Correlation) coefficients to match the corners, and remove in two steps the outliers of inaccurate matching corners. We compare the proposed algorithm with Rosten's algorithm by applying both to the real images. We find that the proposed method shows better performance than Rosten's algorithm in motion estimation. In addition, we implement the present method on mobile devices and confirm that it works in mobile environments in real time.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.3.010
This paper presents chunking strategy of a contiguous nouns sequence using semantic class. We call contiguous nouns which can be treated like a noun the compound noun phrase. We use noun pairs extracted from a syntactic tagged corpus and their semantic class pairs for chunking of the compound noun phrase. For reliability, these noun pairs and semantic classes are built from a syntactic tagged corpus and detailed dictionary in the Sejong corpus. The compound noun phrase of arbitrary length can also be chunked by these information. The 38,940 pairs of 'left noun - right noun', 65,629 pairs of 'left noun - semantic class of right noun', 46,094 pairs of 'semantic class of left noun - right noun', and 45,243 pairs of 'semantic class of left noun - semantic class of right noun' are used for compound noun phrase chunking. The test data are untrained 1,000 sentences with contiguous nouns of length more than 2randomly selected from Sejong morphological tagged corpus. Our experimental result is 86.89% precision, 80.48% recall, and 83.56% f-measure.

In the architectural design technologies being changed recently, there is the study to develop the way that will enable the designers to get access logically to the processes of deciding the values of design factors which depend on the experience of the designers. This study, which is one part of those studies, has been carried out to develop the model that can decide the values logically for the design factors having the character that the design values are changed by the time variation out of design factors involved in the building energy saving design. As a result, the structure of the decision model which can decide the design values logically from the computer simulation that solve the problem by interpreting the real world as the probability distribution, has been established through this study. For the application and verification of these decision model, the case study has been carried out for the outdoor climate factors that stand for the design factors having the time variation.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.3.032
IPTV is an emerging technology that combines both broadcasting and tele-communication technologies, and provides various multi-media contents to the service subscribers. In general, IPTV broadcasters transmit scrambled signals (multi-media contents) to the paying subscribers, and the users within the acknowledged network descramble the signals using the smart-card. That is, users are verified through communication between STB (Set-Top Box) and smart-card. In 2004, Jiang et al. proposed a secure protocol regarding the verification process. The method has been modified and enhanced by several following research works. However, all the methods that have been proposed so far required modular exponentiation operations which may raise the smart-card costs. In this paper, we propose a new efficient mutual authentication and session-key establishment protocol using only hash functions and exclusive-or operations, and show that the proposed protocol is still secure under various security attacks.
Web Traffic Analysis according to the Link-down Duration of TCP and SCTP
Choi, Yong-Woon ; Cho, Kwang-Moon ; Lee, Yong-Jin ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 3, 2010, Pages 44~52
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.3.044
The most popular world wide web traffic in the Internet uses TCP as the transport layer protocol. Since TCP utilizes the single path, it can not communicate with the correspondent host during the link-down. On the other hand, SCTP can still communicate with the other SCTP entity by using alternate path even while the primary path is down. Most of previous studies have conducted the performance comparison research between TCP and SCTP by using typical file transfer. Since web traffic with self-similarity is characterized by the packet inter-arrival times and shape parameter affecting the size of web file in the Pareto distribution, it is necessary to perform the experiments considering these parameters. This paper aims to compare the throughput between TCP and SCTP while varying parameters reflecting the web traffic characteristics in link-down environment. Experimental results for web traffic using NS-2 simulator show that the throughput of SCTP using multi-homing is better than that of TCP. Simulation also shows that TCP is more affected than SCTP by mean inter-arrival and shape parameters with regard to the web traffic. These results can be applied to estimate the performance variation of web traffic due to the duration of link-down.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.3.053
Recently, various monitoring systems are implemented actively by using wireless sensor networks(WSN). When implementing WSN-based monitoring system, there are three important issues to consider. At First, we need to consider a sensor node failure detection method to support the ongoing monitoring. Secondly, because sensor nodes use limited battery power, we need an efficient data filtering method to reduce energy consumption. At Last, a reducing processing overhead method is necessary. The existing Kalman filtering scheme has good performance on data filtering, but it causes too much processing overhead to estimate sensed data. To solve these problems, we, in this paper, propose a new data filtering scheme based on data statical analysis. First, the proposed scheme periodically aggregates node survival massages to support a node failure detection. Secondly, to reduce energy consumption, it sends the sample data with a node survival massage and do data filtering based on those messages. Finally, it analyzes the sample data to estimate filtering range in a server. As a result, each sensor node can use only simple compare operation for filtering data. In addition, we show from our performance analysis that the proposed scheme outperforms the Kalman filtering scheme in terms of the number of sending messages.

Recently, to achieve high performance of the processor, the cache is splits physically into two parts, one for instruction and one for data. This paper proposes an architecture of asynchronous instruction cache based on mixed-delay model that are DI(delay-insensitive) model for cache hit and Bundled delay model for cache miss. We synthesized the instruction cache at gate-level and constructed a test platform with 32-bit embedded processor EISC to evaluate performance. The cache communicates with the main memory and CPU using 4-phase hand-shake protocol. It has a 8-KB, 4-way set associative memory that employs Pseudo-LRU replacement algorithm. As the results, the designed cache shows 99% cache hit ratio and reduced latency to 68% tested on the platform with MI bench mark programs.

A EAARS(Electronic Attendance-Absence Recording System) is the important LSS(Learning Support System) for blending a on-line learning in the face-to-face classroom. However, the EAARS based on the smart card can not identify a real owner of the checked card. Therefore, we develop the CS(Client-Sever) system that manages the attendance-absence checking automatically, which is used the self-organizing neural network for the face recognition. A client system creates the ID file by extracting the face feature, a server system analyzes the ID file sent from client system, and performs a student identification by using the Recognized weight file saved in Database. As a result, The proposed CS EAARS shows the 92% efficiency in the CS environment that includes the various face image database of the real classroom.

Due to the convergence of broadcasting and communications, IPTV services are spotlighted as the that next-generation multimedia services. IPTV services should have functionality such as unlimited channel capacity, extension of media, QoS awareness and are required increasing traffic and quality control technology to adapt the attributes of IPTV service. Consequently, flow based quality control techniques are needed. Therefore, many studies for providing Internet QoS are performed at IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). As the buffer management mechanism among IP QoS methods, active queue management method such as RED(Random Early Detection) and modified RED algorithms have proposed. However, these algorithms have difficulties to satisfy the requirements of various Internet user QoS. Therefore, in this paper we propose the Flow based AQM(Active Queue Management) algorithm for the multimedia services that request various QoS requirements. The proposed algorithm can converge the packet loss ratio to the target packet loss ratio of required QoS requirements. And we present a performance evaluation by the simulations using the ns-2.

Due to the development of digital appliance, role of TV causes both-way by introducing IPTV, and SNS service causes big change of watching environment and residence environment. There are good conditions on the role of integrated control because it is arranged in the living room which secures movement most effectively and because family members can easily use, and the degree of use is high. Therefore, we infer user's needs by analyzing user scenario and current role of TV in home network environment. Primarily, we collect surveys of development scenario and technology which companies suggest TV applied by home network service, and secondly, we comparatively study scenario which the companies mentioned above suggest through observing user scenario, and study the role of IPTV in the future through actual scenario-based experiment by ethnography. After analyzing user scenario through case study and experiment, there are integrated device studies mainly in company study because it can be made up inside home, security and entertainment. On the other hand, there are patterns of user behavior by scenario experiment mainly in auto-tainment, security, and it showed that it is insufficient for interaction between TV and home media peripheral. Through this paper, we analyze context of home user, and based on this, we could suggest effective use of service development. Also after analyzing user form, we could know it also should be considered of ratio between activity inside home and activity outside home.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.3.101
The recent trend of the hacking deals with all the IT infrastructure related to the profit of the companies. Presently, they attack the service itself, the source of the profit, while they tried to access to the service infrastructure through the non-service port in the past. Although they affect the service directly, it is difficult to block them with the old security solution or the old system and they threaten more and more companies with the demand of money menacing the protection of customers and the sustainable management. This paper aims to design and implement multi-platform network packet scanner targeting the exception handling network intrusion detection system which determines normal, abnormal by traffic. Linux and unix have the various network intrusion detection and packet management tools like ngrep, snort, TCPdump, but most of them are based on CUI (Character based User Interface) giving users discomfort who are not used to it. The proposed system is implemented based on GUI(Graphical User Interface) to support the intuitive and easy-to-use interface to users, and using Qt(c++) language that supports multi-platform to run on any operating system.

In this paper, we design and implement CTOC, a new bytecode analysis and translation tool. We also propose E-Tree, a new intermediate code, to efficiently deal with intermediate codes translated from bytecodes. E-Tree is expressed in a tree form by combining relevant bytecode instructions in basic blocks of eCFG to overcome the weaknesses of bytecodes such as complexity and analytical difficulty. To demonstrate the usefulness and possible extensibility of CTOC, we show the creation process of eCFG and E-Tree through practical bytecode analysis and translation and shows the optimization process of a bytecode program as an example of possible extensibility.

RFID-based games, which use a RFID reader and RFID chips, will expand existing computer games, which use a computer screen, a keyboard or a mouse. This paper presents 4 RFID digital board game contents which are conducted by initial developers; the three of them use the screen and control the games with RFID chips and, one is a different attempted game which can exclude the screen and be immersed to the board. While initial developers use object recognition of RFID, we need to develop game contents and game interface which can recognize positions of the objects. According to the initial developer"s developing process, the cooperative system between the game technical developers and the contents developers should be necessary. Also, the interface should be developed for young children to participate and operate.

Lim, Min-Gyu ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 3, 2010, Pages 141~148
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.3.141
The aim of this paper is to propose a communication middleware which makes it possible to easily and efficiently develop the networking support for multi-user applications. Even though existing middleware and development tools provides lots of functionalities to realize distributed applications, they are purely low-level services passing the most development efforts to developers, or too specialized for a specific application. It brings a challenging issue of how the middleware supports general and efficient high-level mechanisms. To meet different networking and interaction requirements of multi-user applications, we propose various schemes to provide the communication architecture, the user membership management, the content transmission mechanism and the event management. Our middleware provides developers with application-level APIs and configuration files so that the different interaction requirements of a multi-user application can be easily handled in the developers' point of view.

There are elements for the game user get into the emotion of flow (the mental state of operation in which the person is fully immersed in what he or she is doing by a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and success in the process of the activity). In game contents, for example, a considerable sophisticated application of 'sound' is one of the important elements must be considered for a qualified game development process. If a proper audio condition is satisfied, a game user is intrinsically solving problems by auditorial sense and the participant get into immersing into the game spontaneously. There are elements in game contents storytelling for the user to be in flow condition, this study will be analyzing a game user's flowing, especially with repetitive usage of sound. To be accurate, 'flow analysis' of Csikszentmihalyi. M, and 'flow factors' of Donna L. Hoffman & Thomas P. Novak, in addition, would be proper references in the research. comparing to a precedent study that analyzed a game and flow focused on visual elements. Ponpoko(Sigma Enterprise Inc., 1981) and Bio Hazard 4(Capcom, 2007) will be given as the main texts. To achieve the desired proposition in the study, user's reaction is monitored by listening repeatable and ordinary sound. Questionnaires are including Frequency Analysis, MANOVA(multivariate analysis of variance).

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.3.157
As the result of correlation, the viewing rate of terrestrial broadcasting programs has a little bit affect on online VOD use. In addition, WOM(word of mouth) and online referral importantly influences to the picking with online VOD drama. The great popularity of main actors on drama affect a little bit the viewing of VOD drama but doesn't perfectly affect on it. However, the drama which is performed by great popular actors has positive affect on VOD use. This study result shows that the using of video depends on the effect of WOM, referral and commercial. The casting of a great popular actors plays role of the safeguard which affects viewing rate and add-value. That means the casting of a great popular actors doesn't connect with the success of release but the tool of defense from loss of profit.

The development and expansion of American style mass media in 1938 created contemporary narratives comparable with the Greek narrative in the past, and one of the leaders is comic book 'Superman.' Although American hegemonism or expansionism was rejected by autonomous independent countries including the Third World nations, the heroic narratives transcending the diverse races and peoples in the U.S. were supported by mass cultures and media and had huge impacts on heroic narratives and various media in many other countries. In particular, 'Superman' occupies an epochal position in the history of comic books as it reinterpreted a universal and contemporary heroic narrative model into a Greek hero and a Christian hero and suggested it visually.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.3.196
This study aimed to examine the effect of microcurrent stimulation on expression of Bone Morphogenetic Protein(BMP) 4 after tibia fracture in rabbits. The twenty four adult 6 month old New Zealand white rabbits weighting 2.5~3.5 ㎏ were used. Twenty four rabbits with tibia fracture were randomly divided into control and experimental groups. Each group was divided into four subgroups, based on the duration of the experiment (3, 7, 14, 28 days). The experimental groups received microcurrent stimulation of 20~25
intensity with surface Ag-AgCl electrode (diameter 1cm, Biopac, U.S.A.) for 24 hours a day. Cathode of the microcurrent stimulator located on the tibia directly, anode of it did on the gastrocnemius muscle. After evaluation, the test results are as follows: Comparisons of immunohistochemical observation of BMP-4 in 7 days after tibial fracture show that there was shown to be a moderate positive reaction (++) on concentric circles of Harversian system and the interstitial lamella in the control group, while there was a very strong positive reaction () on concentric circles of Harversian system and interstitial lamellain the experimental group. These results suggest that applying non-invasive constant microcurrent stimulation on fractured bone is helpful to bone healing.

To assess the clinical value of time resolved imaging of contrast kinetics(TRICKS) MRA by comparison with conventional time of flight(TOF) MR angiography. Both TOF-MRA and TRICKS-MRA were performed in 17 patients with cerebrovascular disease and in 6 patients with brain tumor. Among 17 cerebraovascular patients, digital subtraction angiography(DSA) data were also obtained in 11 patients. TOF-MRA showed good spatial resolution but short in temporal resolution. Although TRICKS-MRA showed somewhat low spatial resolution, it showed superior temporal resolution by distinguishing vessel and tumor in all patients. Also, from the analysis of vessel-tumor relationship, TRICKS-MRA showed better performance than TOF-MRA. TRICKS-MRA makes it possible to image arterial, capillary and venous phase sequentially with very speedy manner and therefore, the clinical use of this method is highly suggestive for future use.

The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for marketing strategy for hospitals in Busan Metropolitan area by investigating of the web-site management and effect on hospital management about the web-sites managers. Survey of 53 web-site managers was taken between May 1st and May 25th 2008. The survey was carried out to gather information about characteristics of web-site managers and creating, managing and operating process of web-sites and web-sites' effect and information sharing abilities. The results of survey are as follows. First, most of hospitals' web-sites were launched between 2001 to 2005 via outsourcing. Most of hospitals spent about one to three million won for their web-sites and renew web-sites every year. Most of these web-sites have hospital PR, Q&A, and on-line support functions. Second, most of whom participated in survey have agreed that a hospital web-site has influence in hospital management in various categories such as introducing hospital to medical examination, making doctor's appointment, providing patient guidance, providing medical information, and patient counselling. This study shows that effects of web-sites are closely related to web-site satisfaction level. Therefore, to raise the hospital satisfaction level, it is necessary for hospitals to put more efforts in creating web-site that provides more medical information and improved on-line services.

In this study, three different devices, Norland, Osteocore and Lunar were used to compare and analyze the measurement error by each bone density measurement device by classifying the physical characteristics into age, height and weight, the subject of total 300 sampling 100 persons for each device. Categorizing Lumbar region and Femoral neck as normal (T-score
-1.0), osteopenia (-1.0>T-score>-2.5) and osteoporosis (T-score
-2.5), the findings were observed as follows. Norland device showed the least measurement error in age and height, while Lunar showed the least in weight among the devices. And, the result of comparing the bone density measurement error based on the lumbar region showed that all of Lunar, Norland and Osteocore have the least variation of measurement error in osteopenia and the result of comparing based on the femoral neck showed that all of Lunar, Norland and Osteocore have the least variation of measurement error in osteoporosis. For each variable, the measurement error was observed to be vary upon the device. To solve this, standardized common Phantom should be used to compare and converge the measured value of each company and cross-calibration would be necessary when replacing the software.

In case of the Dental X-ray apparatus, the diameter (or the field size) of the tip of the cone should be less than 7 cm according to the Diagnosis Radiation Equipment Safety Management. However, deviation from the field is not expected to be big as photography is made at close range from the skin. Also, as the size of film or digital detector used in intra-oral photography is
, the size mentioned above can be considered to be much bigger. Furthermore, the patient dose by short-distance photography can not be ignored. Therefore, effect on the patient dose, resolution and image qualty was examined by reducing the cone diameter by 0.5 cm interval. The result showed that the patient dose was reduced and a partial improvement in picture contrast was observed. Therefore, it can be concluded from these results that further investigation may be worthwhile in terms of policy.

Currently, due to the rapid growth of Internet businesses, competition is deepening even in Internet portal markets. In markets where competition is severe, companies can no longer hold a competitive advantage if they cannot deliver their own distinguished, unique images to customers. Therefore, this research planned to establish distinguished positioning strategies by comparing competition relationships among portals which go through building positioning maps and understanding the evaluation attributes and ideal points of internal portal images preferred by segmented customer groups. College students who are heavy users of the Internet were selected as research subjects, and they were led to make an evaluation of the image of Internet portals they mainly use. The analysis result showed that attributes distinguished the most among portals were entertainment, additional service, and convenience while the attribute distinguished the least was customer service. Moreover, understanding of preference and ideal points regarding portals also showed significant differences by segmented groups. Such research results are expected to become meaningful raw data in regards to building distinguished market segment strategies in Internet portal markets.

With the development of media technology, UCC actively working through the medium of the Net, the Internet space, which can influence politics instead of TV is drawing attention as the new leading media. As the one-sided media influence of TV is dwindling in the times of the Internet, the hegemony of the media is rapidly changing into UCC marked by two-way interaction. Especially, UCC has the characteristic that it has changed the people performing a role as the receptor of the media into the agent of enormous political influence as well as the freshness specific to its contents. This study was intended to investigate the types of diverse political influences of UCC in political practice as well as daily politics with a focus on the fact that it can newly project the world led by the media and their changes and exercise strong power in changing the society. Therefore, it attempted to investigate the political influence and ripple effect that UCC can exert by attempting to analyze what political influence UCC can exercise at diverse political situations including election. As a result, UCC led to four situations such as incentive-exploding type, issue-leading type, dispersion-switching type, direction-obeying type. This can be said to lead to the positive effect at the political field, such as implementing direct democracy through digital technology.

With the beginning of foreign workers' immigration since 1990, Korea has faced multi-cultural society. At the same time, the number of female marriage immigrants have constantly increased. But the social services for immigrants are not yet prepared. According to the research on the actual condition of immigrants' culture enjoyment, which was done by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea, the most preferable leisure activity of immigrants is 'sightseeing'. So this study focused on improvement of web contents of tourism information to satisfy the information needs of immigrants. Concretely, this study analysed the present condition of the existing tourism web contents, and analysed deeply the web site 'Tourism Busan' for special reference. Especially this study tried to analyse VOD images among web contents of 'Tourism Busan', and provided concrete improvement plan for that. And also this study processed interview with marriage immigrants to provide web site evaluation at the level of immigrants' eyes. As a result of evaluation, immigrants was the most dissatisfied with 'contents quality', and showed lower dissatisfaction at 'service quality', 'interface quality' factors.

The number of professionals in the science and engineering fields decreases all over the world. Especially in Korea, the declining rate of both the laborable and economically active population, aging of the population at the fastest level, and the declining birth rate make it tougher to secure the core brains of the future. After speculation of all programs above, some common factors have been derived and every program appeared to have the support for each level of inducing, caring, and utilizing. And the means of support could be categorized into the financial, legal, and social aspects. Lastly, a logical tool called Systems Thinking has been applied to the FLS Conditions and the Brain Internalization Process to assure the efficacy and applicability of the models. This is to minimize any de facto side effects by analyzing all 'feedback loops' stemming from the models. And the 'causal loop diagrams' have been utilized to come with the complementary measures. Such series of verification could convince the virtue of the models. Governments and universities can make use of the FLS Conditions and the Brain Internalization Process so the policies or plans about the foreign brains can be built in a uniformized and consistent framework. I hope, as a result, the international competency of Korea to induce and utilize the foreign brains be raised with the constant and standardized formality.

The current curriculum in the 7th informatics, which simply highlights the use of applied programs rather than enhancing creativity through learning several principles in information science and thus making it hard to have optimism on the future as a powerhouse in IT. By diagnosing these problems, Education Ministry revised the existing curriculum to have a more scientific access to the informatics. However, the curricular revision fails to meet the needs of learners sufficiently because it tends to put the considerations of theoretical specialists before the learners them selves. This paper compares and analyzes the overall understanding of learners on informatics, current-curriculum and 7th revised curriculum and that of college-level, thus offering the student-centered one. Also, the research tries to bridge the opinion gap between developer and learner by looking into the understanding level of university majors about the current curriculum. In doing so, thesis may provide the basis on exploring new approaches and contribute to establishing 7th revised curriculum in school.
