Kwon, Soon-Il ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 1~9
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.001
Authoring tools for sketching the motion of characters to be animated have been studied. However the natural interface for sound editing has not been sufficiently studied. In this paper, I present a novel method that sound sample is selected by speaking sound-imitation words(onomatopoeia). Experiment with the method based on statistical models, which is generally used for pattern recognition, showed up to 97% in the accuracy of recognition. In addition, to address the difficulty of data collection for newly enrolled sound samples, the GLR Test based on only one sample of each sound-imitation word showed almost the same accuracy as the previous method.

Lee, Sang-Wha ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 10~18
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.010
This paper presents a optimization of sigmoid activation function parameter using genetic algorithms and pattern recognition analysis in input space of two spirals benchmark problem. To experiment, cascade correlation learning algorithm is used. In the first experiment, normal sigmoid activation function is used to analyze the pattern classification in input space of the two spirals problem. In the second experiment, sigmoid activation functions using different fixed values of the parameters are composed of 8 pools. In the third experiment, displacement of the sigmoid function to determine the value of the three parameters is obtained using genetic algorithms. The parameter values applied to the sigmoid activation functions for candidate neurons are used. To evaluate the performance of these algorithms, each step of the training input pattern classification shows the shape of the two spirals.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 19~27
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.019
In recent years, high-throughput genome-wide RNA interference screening is emerging as an essential tool to biologists in understanding complex cellular processes. The manual analysis of the large number of images produced in each study spends much time and the labor. Hence, automatic cellular image analysis becomes an urgent need, where segmentation is the first and one of the most important steps. However, those factors such as the region overlapping, a variety of shapes, and non-uniform local characteristics of cellular images become obstacles to efficient cell segmentation. To avoid the problem, a new watershed-based cell segmentation algorithm using a localized segmentation method and a feature vector is proposed in this paper. Localized approach in segmentation resolves the problems caused by a variety of shapes and non-uniform characteristics. In addition, the poor performance of segmentation in overlapped regions can be improved by taking advantage of a feature vector whose component features complement each other. Simulation results show that the proposed method improves the segmentation performance compared to the method in Cellprofiler.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.028
The variable block size motion estimation (ME) and compensation (MC) using multiple reference frames is adopted in H.264/AVC to improve coding efficiency. However, the computational complexity for ME/MC increases proportional to the number of reference frames and variable blocks. In this paper, we propose a new efficient reference frame selection algorithm to reduce the complexity while keeping the visual quality. First, a motion vector reference map is constructed by SAD of
block unit for multi reference frames. Next, the variable block size motion estimation and motion compensation is performed according to the motion vector reference map. The computer simulation results show that the average loss of BDPSNR is -0.01dB, the increment of BDBR is 0.27%, and the encoding time is reduced by 38% compared with the original method for H.264/AVC.

Kim, Hyun-Jong ; Yun, Dong-Geun ; Choi, Seong-Gon ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 45~54
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.045
In this paper, we propose a quality interworking control system to enhance user`s quality satisfaction in NGN environment by controling QoS parameters related with QoE in network layer when service user`s QoE using variance multimedia service is poor. The proposed system gathers QoS parameter information in network layer through control packet such as RTCP, and evaluates QoE of multimedia service using these QoS parameter information. Comparing the evaluated QoE with the measured QoE in application layer, QCS judges quality degradation, deduces related QoS parameters and decides relative importance of each parameter when QoE is lower than threshold value. QCS generates QoS control values which is based on routing and switching policy in service quality control system(SCS) and forwards them to SCS. Through this proposed system, service and network providers can provide multimedia services of enhanced quality to service users taking account of service characteristic and network performance.
Energy-aware Routing Protocol using Multi-route Information in Wireless Ad-hoc Networks with Low Mobility
Hong, Youn-Sik ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 55~65
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.055
We present a method for increasing network lifetime without link failure due to lack of battery capacity of nodes in wireless ad-hoc networks with low mobility. In general, a node with larger remaining battery capacity represents the one with lesser traffic load. Thus, a modified AODV routing protocol is proposed to determine a possible route by considering a remaining battery capacity of a node. Besides, the total energy consumption of all nodes increase rapidly due to the huge amount of control packets which should be flooded into the network. To reduce such control packets efficiently, a source node can store information about alternative routes to the destination node into its routing table. When a link failure happens, the source node should retrieve the route first with the largest amount of the total remaining battery capacity from its table entries before initiating the route rediscovery process. To do so, the possibility of generating unnecessary AODV control packets should be reduced. The method proposed in this paper increases the network lifetime by 40% at most compared with the legacy AODV and MMBCR.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 66~75
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.066
In Augmented Reality, it needs restoration and tracking of a real-time scene structure for the augmented 3D model from input video or images. Most of the previous approaches construct accurate 3D models in advance and try to fit them in real-time. However, it is difficult to measure 3D model accurately and requires long pre-processing time to construct exact 3D model specifically. In this research, we suggest a real-time scene structure analysis method for the wide indoor mobile augmented reality, using only generic models without exact pre-constructed models. Our approach reduces cost and time by removing exact modeling process and demonstrates the method for restoration and tracking of the indoor repetitive scene structure such as corridors and stairways in different scales and details.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 76~83
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.076
In this paper, we propose a method that converts a inputted real image to a image feeling like printmaking. That is, this method converts a inputted real image to man made rubber printmaking style image using image processing techniques such as spatial filters, image bit-block transfer, etc. The process is as follows. First, after detecting edges in source image, we get the first image by deleting noise lines and points, then by sharpening. Secondly, we get second image using the similar method to the first image. Finally, we blend the first and the second image by logical AND operation This processing enables us to represent rubber panel and knife effects. Also, the proposed method shows that double edge detecting is effective in enhancing line-width and removing the tiny lines.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 84~90
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.084
DBMS is used for a range of applications from data warehousing through on-line transaction processing. As a result of this demand, DBMS has continued to grow in terms of its size. This growth invokes the most important issue of manually tuning the performance of DBMS. The DBMS tuning should be adaptive to the type of the workload put upon it. But, identifying workloads in mixed database applications might be quite difficult. Therefore, a method is necessary for identifying workloads in the mixed database environment. In this paper, we propose a SVM workload classifier to automatically identify a DBMS workload. Database workloads are collected in TPC-C and TPC-W benchmark while changing the resource parameters. Parameters for SVM workload classifier, C and kernel parameter, were chosen experimentally. The experiments revealed that the accuracy of the proposed SVM workload classifier is about 9% higher than that of Decision tree, Naive Bayes, Multilayer perceptron and K-NN classifier.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.091
Recently, Internet users have an interest about Social Media Service in Web2.0 environment. We suggest the orchestra service as social media service to meet user satisfactions in changed web environment. We accept a concept of the MMMD (Multiple Media Multiple Devices). In other words, Internet users listen to the music not only one device but multiple devices. Each one of multiple devices can play a sound source under earmark instruments for providing users with actual feeling like an orchestra. To meet the purpose, we define 3 steps. First, we separate the sound source based on instrument information. Second, we exact the suitable sound source for play orchestra. In final step, the sound source transmits to each suitable playing device. We named the 3 step for AET process. Beside we suggest synchronization method using rest point in the MIDI file for control sound sources. Using the AET process and synchronization method we provide the orchestra service for meet user`s satisfactions to users.

Kim, Jun-Ho ; Lee, Yun-Jin ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 106~114
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.106
Mesh parameterization is the process of finding one-to-one mapping between an input mesh and a parametric domain. It has been considered as a fundamental tool for digital geometric processing which is required to develop several applications of digital geometries. In this paper, we propose a novel 3D volume parameterization by means that a harmonic mapping is established between a 3D volume mesh and a unit solid cube. To do that, we firstly partition the boundary of the given 3D volume mesh into the six different rectangular patches whose adjacencies are topologically identical to those of a surface cube. Based on the partitioning result, we compute the boundary condition as a precondition for computing a volume mesh parameterization. Finally, the volume mesh parameterization with a low-distortion can be accomplished by performing a harmonic mapping, which minimizes the harmonic energy, with satisfying the boundary condition. Experimental results show that our method is efficient enough to compute 3D volume mesh parameterization for several models, each of whose topology is identical to a solid sphere.

Most of intelligent services provided today work based on the users` location. Numerous devices for indoor localization services have their own characteristic functions and operating systems, we need the interoperability and diversity of middleware to connect and control these devices. The indoor localization method using existing inertial sensors are relatively less efficient because of additional cost according to the size of space. Accordingly, the indoor user localization method proposed in this study supports integrated services using OSGi framework, an open source project, and solves problems in inertial sensor based on accurate distance to a specific object measured using ultrasonic sensor. Furthermore, it reduces errors resulting from difference in response rate by adding the reliability item.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 123~132
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.123
Beginning in 1990`s, 3D filmmaking reappeared. As almost every job in filmmaking is digitalized, 3D takes advantage of its new software and hardware, and digital friendly customers as well. One reason why Korean cinema should take 3D seriously is that it can resolve the old and tough problem of unemployed human resources in film production. Another reason is the cooperation programs in which universities and 3D companies can join. 3D cinema can create new cinema goers who don`t belong the regular viewer. The totally new experience of 3D can bring people to the movie theaters, and this will add up the total movie customers that expand the whole film industry. The newly designed 3D also could take care of piracy of movie file uploading and downloading through internet. 3D cinema would be precious alternative for film industries of Korea.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.133
It is said that the highlight in the media covergence and integration within digital environment era is `Contents`. Due to the advent of new media and various covergence and integration services, the competition between the platforms has become aggressive. As a result, it is predicted that the negotiation power of a `Content`s industry will be strengthened. In reality, the actual environmental changes in the media environment have accompanied elements of industrial crisis rather than opportunity to expand the market. The changes are especially causing sales structure distortion and proceeds deterioration in the Korean film industry. Moreover, telecommunication and broadcasting businesses are making their entrance into the film industry, through the appearance of the media covergence and integration as a backdrop. Thus, the situation that the Korean film industry is facing is closely associated with the development of the digital technology and new media environment. Eventually, weathering the crisis and pioneering the future will be possible through changes in the media environment. The purpose of this study is to show how the media covergence and integration phenomenon is occurring in the film industry. This study will also focus on what new problems are occurring as a result, and seek out the solutions that are available.

Ganggangsulae, a traditional Korean circle-dance play, is valuable as the material for learning the traditional culture. Most people realize the importance of the Ganggangsulae as the traditional play. However, schools have experienced difficulties in teaching the Ganggangsulae to students since students are not interested in it due to the lack of systematic and proper instruction methods. In order to develop these methods, it is required to enforce researches in reinventing traditional Ganggangsulae into modern and popular life sports based on various scientific analyses. In this paper, we analyze the current instruction methods and the corresponding effects in teaching Ganggangsulae in the elementary schools. Also the effect of exercise is also analyzed for each play of Ganggangsulae. Based on these analyses, we present a model of player-centric Ganggangsulae system which can be reorganized its plays for a specific purpose. The proposed model characterizes Ganggangsulae in terms of the evolutionary variety and modular structure.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 175~185
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.175
This article aims to compare the implications of masked dance in Hahoe with Gangneung masquerade and analyze them, in terms of the transition of the rituals. The results are as followings; Byulsin exorcism of Hahoe was the worship for God who people believe protects us from the evil. However, from the making of the mask in Hahoe masquerade. The movement of the dance features the spontaneous, changeable, depending on atmosphere of the stage or the host of the performance. Hahoe masquerade has the religious suggestion in the organization; it is one of the festivals, wishing for peace, good harvest of the village, in the content of the performance. From the roles of casts, the implications of the rituals are inferred; such the characters as Yangbankwangdae, Somaekaksi, Sisittakttaki, and Jangjamari have the implication of the repelling. But, the movement of the masked dance lost the original fashion in the process of restoration and faced the change. Therefore, most of the movements are tuned to falk of Gangneung; it doesn`t have essence of the rituals. Finally, Gangneung masquerade has a factor of amusement of the Dano festival, wishes for well-being, good harvest of the village and includes the ritual of a guardian deity of the town, like the tutelary masquerade.
Pauses and Ellipses in Chekhov`s Plays: Focusing on Three Sisters
Lieu, Ji-Mi ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 4, 2010, Pages 186~197
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.186
The things that you cannot miss when reading Chekhov`s plays are "pauses" and ellipses lining up in the middle of the lines. I think what meaning to amplify and how to express a great number of "pauses" and ellipses when one directs Chekhov`s works may be a crucial element that makes his works more Chekhov-like. First, proper uses of "pauses" and ellipses may be helpful for determining the characteristics of the characters. So silence in Chekhov drama allows his plays considered relatively lacking actions to become totally different drama texts with musical dynamics, that is, functions as directive or acting material to be treated delicately.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.4.397
This study proposes visualization methods of the diurnal passenger flows on the Metropolitan Seoul Subway system (MSSs) and examines the passenger trip behaviors of major central business districts (CBDs). We mine the MSS passenger flow information from a single day T-card passenger trip transaction database. It is practically intractable to analyze such flows, involving huge, complex space-time data, by means of general statistical analysis. On the other hand, dynamic visualizations of the passenger flows make it possible to analyze intuitively and to grasp effectively characteristics of the passenger flows. We thus propose several methods to visualize the passenger flow information. In particular, we visualize dynamic passenger flows of each link on the subway network and analyze the time-space characteristics of passenger ridership for the three major CBDs. As the result, we can ascertain the strong association between CBD and subway line and clarify the distinction among three major CBDs in the diurnal patterns of subway passenger flow.

Mathematical principle is present in artwork or architectural building. It is important for middle school students to find these mathematical principles in artwork. But it is difficult to achieve original purpose of art education through student activity that only looks for mathematical principle present in artwork and architectural building. Thus, it is necessary for students to have activities to find mathematical principle in artwork for themselves through artistic experience and appreciation of artwork and to create, appreciate and express new artwork to which they apply the mathematical principle. In this article, I researched a couple of artwork or architectural buildings from this point of view in which mathematical principle is present. I also developed hypothetical teacher activities and student activities for program by providing artwork of Escher in which mathematical principle is present as an example.
