Kim, Seok-Yeol ; Park, Jin-Ah ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 8, 2010, Pages 1~10
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.8.001
For virtual education, the multimodal learning environment with haptic feedback, termed 'immersive textbook', is necessary to enhance the learning effectiveness. However, the learning contents for immersive textbook are not widely available due to the constraints in creation and playback environments. To address this problem, we propose a framework for producing and displaying the multimodal contents for immersive textbook. Our framework provides an XML-based meta-language to produce the multimodal learning contents in the form of intuitive script. Thus it can help the user, without any prior knowledge of multimodal interactions, produce his or her own learning contents. The contents are then interpreted by script engine and delivered to the user by visual and haptic rendering loops. Also we implemented a prototype based on the aforementioned proposals and performed user evaluation to verify the validity of our framework.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 8, 2010, Pages 11~17
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.8.011
In this paper, we propose HMM-based upper-body gesture. First, to recognize gesture of space, division about pose that is composing gesture once should be put priority. In order to divide poses which using interface, we used two IR cameras established on front side and side. So we can divide and acquire in front side pose and side pose about one pose in each IR camera. We divided the acquired IR pose image using SVM's non-linear RBF kernel function. If we use RBF kernel, we can divide misclassification between non-linear classification poses. Like this, sequences of divided poses is recognized by gesture using HMM's state transition matrix. The recognized gesture can apply to existent application to do mapping to OS Value.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 8, 2010, Pages 18~25
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.8.018
The study has proposed a method that simultaneously takes advantage of each projection matrix acquired by using column-directional two-dimensional PCA(C2DPCA) and row-directional two-dimensional LDA(R2DLDA). The proposed method can acquire a great secure recognition rate, with no relation to the number of training images, with acquired low-dimensional feature matrixes including both the horizontal and the vertical features of a face. Besides, in the alternate experiment of PCA and LDA to row-direction and column-direction respectively(C2DPCA & R2DLDA, C2DLDA & R2DPCA), we could make sure the system of 2 dimensional LDA with row-directional feature(C2DPCA & R2DLDA) obtain higher recognition rate with low dimension than opposite case. As a result of experimenting that, the proposed method has showed a greater recognition rate of 99.4% than the existing methods such as 2DPCA and 2DLDA, etc. Also, it was proved that its recognition processing is over three times as fast as that of 2DPCA or 2DLDA.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 8, 2010, Pages 38~50
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.8.038
In recent years, the number of users who are actively express their opinions about Internet articles is more and more growing up, as the use of cyber community such as weblog or Internet discussion board increases. In fact, it is not difficult to find an article with hundreds of comments in famous Internet discussion boards. Most of the weblogs or Internet discussion boards present comments in the form of list and do not yet support even the basic operation such as searching comments. In this paper, we analysed large sets of comments in Internet discussion board named AGORA. It was found that from the result that the distribution of comment writers follows power-law. So we suppose a new search structure of comments using skip lists. The main idea of our approach is to reflect the probabilistic distribution properties of the commenters following the power-law to the data structure. Our empirical results show that the proposed method performs more efficient in searching the nodes with fewer number of comparison operations than logN, which is the theoretical time complexity of general indexed structure such as B-trees or typical skip lists.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 8, 2010, Pages 51~58
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.8.051
In data collection using a mobile sink, the time that sensor nodes are included in its communication radius is not uniform. The data collection schedule in non-uniform time is needed between a mobile sink and sensor nodes for efficient data collection. The existing data collection schemes using a mobile sink considered staying time in its communication range and data collected by the mobile sink. However, they did not consider the characteristics of data collected in sensor networks. In this paper, we propose a TDMA based schedule scheme that consists of the data collection period by each sensor nodes and the data collection period between a mobile sink and sensor nodes. Moreover, we propose a data collection scheme considering the variability of data in sensor networks. The proposed data collection scheme collects only data that changed larger than the threshold set by the user. In order to show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compare it with DWEDF that aims to collect data uniformly. As a result, our experimental results show that the proposed scheme reduces about 23% energy consumption and the data collection failure of sensor nodes over the DWEDF.

Lee, Hyung ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 8, 2010, Pages 59~65
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.8.059
This paper proposes an implementation of a hardware module for transmitting MPEG-2 TS data over the internet protocol (IP)-based network. This implementation consists of two modules; one is an encapsulation module which bridges between n TS packets, where
, and an IP packets, the other is a packet conversion module which extracts an DSM-CC PS packet from consecutive TS packets and then reconstructing an IP packet. So, these IP packets are carried over 150 megabits per second. Although overall work flow of the proposed DeMUX is based on the reference design of ALTERA, the DeMUX is enhanced by modifying it and performs more functions by adding a packet conversion module. The DeMUX is described by Verilog-HDL (hardware description language) and shows the faithful functionality and throughput through the simulation.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 8, 2010, Pages 73~83
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.8.073
This paper investigates protocol architecture of a Web-ZigBee gateway for interconnecting TCP/IP-based networks and ZigBee/IEEE802.15.4-based wireless sensor networks. The Web-ZigBee gateway delivers data between the TCP/IP network and the ZigBee network. Since those two networks have different communication protocols, a protocol translation mechanism is needed. Herein, we propose a method to deliver query messages from the Internet to the sensor network and receive data from sensors. The protocol translation is performed in the translation layer that is placed above the two application layers, i.e., the Internet application layer and ZigBee application layer. Among various interfaces, we use CGI programming to take care of translation functions efficiently. The CGI manages query information from a client on the Internet and data from the ZigBee sensor network. Whereas the TCP/IP enabled sensor network overlays two heterogeneous communication protocols, overlaying layers increase the complexity and cost of implementing the sensor network. On the contrary, the sensors in our gateway-based system are not only light (because each communication protocol works independently without overlaying), but also efficient because the translation layer mostly alleviates header overloading.

Raw files record luminance values corresponds to each pixel of a digital camera sensor. In digital imaging, controlling exposure to capture the first highlight stop is important on linear-distribution of raw file characteristic. This study sought to verify the efficiency of ETTR method and found the optimum over-exposure amount to maintain the first highlight stop to be the largest number of levels. This was achieved by over-exposing a scene with a raw file and converting it to under-exposure in a raw file converting software. Our paper verified the efficiency of ETTR by controlling the exposure range and ISOs. Throughout the results, if exposure increases gradually 6 steps, dynamic range is also increased. And it shows that the optimized exposure value is around +
stop over compared to the normal exposure with the high ISOs simultaneously. We compared visual noise value at
stop to the normal exposure visual noise. Based on the normal exposure's visual noise, we can confirm that visual noise decrement is increased by increasing ISOs. In this experimental result, we confirm that overexposure about +
stop is the optimum value to make the widest dynamic range and lower visual noise in high ISOs. Based on the study results, we can provide the effective ETTR information to consumers and manufacturers. This method will contribute to the optimum image performance in maximizing dynamic range and minimizing noise in a digital imaging.

The OSGi platform is a Java-based component platform that is being widely used from environments for the application development to enterprise software. The OSGi platform provides dynamic and transparent installation for open environments. However, it open new attacks so that many researches try to solve OSGi vulnerability. Security flaws in OSGi platform are categorized two parts: the JVM and the OSGi platform itself. We focus on vulnerability by OSGi platform itself, particularly service injection. We identify the service injection attack and suggest secure mechanisms to prevent the attack. Those mechanisms are implemented, providing a few modification to the Knopflerfish OSGi implementation and are evaluated through comparing with existing mechanisms.

The Soviet Silent Films in the 1920s, produced a brilliant prosperity in the history of world films in the cultural and artistic aspects. Among them, Dziga Vertov was a film theorists and a practitioner along with Sergei M. Einstein played a pivotal role in the contemporary soviet films at the time. But the film theories of Vetro is incorrectly recognized or specialized compared to the theories of Eisenstein. But Deleuze has stated that the short in the movie of Vertov is able to deliver a meaning and an impact and he has emphasized that a short can be significant by itself by focusing on the 'truth' which a documentary must have. His film theories are based on futurism and constructivism and use the 'kino-eye' method and 'Interval' theory to summarize and organize his movies into 'movie-truth' principal and 'life as itself' concept. Deleuze the purpose of this research is to analyze with the Vertov core of film theory and every theory of kino eye as the foundation and by comparing the Montage Theory of Sergei Eisenstein and applying Deleuze's Image Theory. Furthermore, it can be insufficient to discuss the film commercial achievements of Vertov as a result of inadequacy of previous research but it will further study his innovative methods and depth of his theories in his representation form in the documentary films.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.8.186
Recent changes show that the goals of reproduction devices have changed from accurately reproducing scenes to improving user preference. It implies that the directions in developing cameras, the most common reproduction devices, are moving from performance-centered to quality-centered, from developers to users. Accepting such changes demand new standards in evaluating reproduction devices. This paper suggests a new method to evaluate the quality of images, based on cognitive properties of users. The quality of an image is a result oriented from the interaction of various attributes, therefore some functional tests are not enough to evaluate total quality of an image. In this respect, an evaluation model which integrates various physical attributes of an image is needed, that enables a third observer to subjectively evaluate the total quality of an image. In this paper, the experiment was carried out to 127 subjects, with the 84 test stimuli and 11 evaluation factors, followed by an factor analysis. The evaluation factors to assess the quality of images in this paper includes the results by cognitions of users and the properties of reproduction, the factors not only evaluate the quality but suggest how to improve them.

This study used 3 kinds of experimental toothpaste prepared with different contents of SLS, i.e. A (0%), B (1.1%), C (2.2%). These 150 subjects were subdivided again into three groups. After 4 weeks application of the three kinds of toothpaste, it was found that there were differences in dental plaque test (PHP) among the 3 groups; that is; a higher SLS content was associated with a lower PHP index. In addition, it was found that all 3 groups showed a reduction in simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-S). After 4 weeks application of the three groups of toothpaste, it was found that a higher SLS content was associated with a lower salivary flow, but there was no significant variation in salivary mucosity and pH. Further, it was found that SLS was negatively correlated with salivary flow, which supports the theory that SLS may induce xerostomia.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.8.257
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different ramp inclination on the maximum plantar foot pressure and pathway of the center of pressure. Fifteen healthy adults who had no musculoskeletal disorders were participated with this study and descended the ramp with different inclination(level,
). Plantar foot pressures were recorded by the Matscan system(Tekscan, Boston, USA) during level and descending ramp with barefoot. Plantar foot surface was defined as seven regions for pressure measurement; two toe regions, three forefoot regions, one midfoot region, one heel region. Repeated ANOVA was used to compare each region data of foot according to different ramp inclination. As descending ramp inclination became increased, the pressure of hallux region was significantly increased at
inclination and the pressure of 2-3 metatasal head region were significantly decreased at
inclination. The pathway of COP had a tendency to be shifted inside in forefoot and prolonged to great toe as the descending ramp inclination increased. The results indicated that plantar foot pressure could be changed at hallux and forefoot regions with
ramp inclination and these findings demonstrated that ramp inclination could affect the structure and function of foot.

Lee, Hae-Gyun ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 10, issue 8, 2010, Pages 426~432
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2010.10.8.426
A level-set finite-element method is employed to investigate the free surface flow of two conceptual fish passage designs. While one design has a right-angled entrance from the reservoir to the fish passage chute, the other has a curved-shaped entrance. The numerical results are validated with hydraulic experiments through comparison of the free surface location and the pressure distribution in the spillway. It is observed that the right-angled design yields a curved free surface and pressure distribution in the vicinity of the entrance due to large strains, whereas the curved-shaped design yields a smooth flow transition with small strains. The subatmospheirc pressure distributions near the spillway ogee crest for both designs exhibit similar flow patterns. It is concluded that the curved-shaped design is more favorable for fish passage because of the feature of a smooth flow transition with small strains.

Recently, Augmented Reality(AR) technologies have been emerged, which shows the types of digital contents integrating real and virtual worlds. To maximize the effect of AR technology, tangible user interface, which enables users to interact with the contents in the same way in which they manipulate objects in real world, is applied. In particular, we expect that the technologies are able to enhance learners' interests and degree of immersion, and produce new learning contents in order to maximize the effect of learning. In this paper, we propose a learning system for scientific experiments with multi-touch screen and tangible user interface. The system consists of an experiment table equipped with a large multi-touch screen and a realistic learning device that can detect the user's simple gestures. In real world, some scientific experiments involve high cost, long time or dangerous objects, but this system will overcome such hindrance and provide learners with a variety of experiment experience in realistic ways.
