The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 1~10
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.001
In this paper, we proposed the skin color based hand and finger detection technology for the gesture recognition in CCTV surveillance. The aim of this paper is to present the methodology for hand detection and propose the finger detection method. The detected hand and finger can be used to implement the non-contact mouse. This technology can be used to control the home devices such as home-theater and television. Skin color is used to segment the hand region from background and contour is extracted from the segmented hand. Analysis of contour gives us the location of finger tip in the hand. After detecting the location of the fingertip, this system tracks the fingertip by using only R channel alone, and in recognition of hand motions to apply differential image, such as the removal of useless image shows a robust side. We explain about experiment which relates in fingertip tracking and finger gestures recognition, and experiment result shows the accuracy above 96%.

In the field of image processing to track the fingertip much research has been done. The most common way to calculate the fingertip first, to extract color information. Then, it uses Blob Coloring algorithms which are expressed in blob functions the skin contour and calculates. The algorithm from contour decides the highest location with the fingertip. But this method when measuring it location from the finger condition which bents is not the actual fingertip and has the problem which detects the location which goes wrong. This paper proposes the color space correction algorithm to tracks the fingertip which bents. The method which proposes when tracking the fingertip from the finger condition which bents solves the problem which measures the location which goes wrong. Aim of this paper in compliance with the propensity of the users forecasts a problem in advance and corrects with improvement at the time of height boil an efficiency. Ultimately, this paper suggests empirical application to verify the adequacy and the validity with the proposed method. Accordingly, the satisfaction and the quality of services will be improved the image recognition.

A Blog provides commentary, news, or content on a particular subject. The important part of many blogs is interactive format. Sometimes, there is a heated debate on a topic and any article becomes a political or sociological issue. In this paper, we proposed a method to predict the popularity of an article in advance. First, we used hit count as a factor to predict the popularity of an article. We defined the saturation point and derived a model to predict the hit count of the saturation point by a correlation coefficient of the early hit count and hit count of the saturation point. Finally, we predicted the virtual temperature of an article using 4 types(explosive, hot, warm, cold). We can predict the virtual temperature of Internet discussion articles using the hit count of the saturation point with more than 70% accuracy, exploiting only the first 30 minutes' hit count. In the hot, warm, and cold categories, we can predict more than 86% accuracy from 30 minutes' hit count and more than 90% accuracy from 70 minutes' hit count.

Recently, together with the development of wireless communication technologies and the wide use of smart phones, the demand of the next generation mobile communication has been increased. To construct the next generation mobile communication platform efficiently for a short period from protocol development phase to protocol stability phase, an protocol analyzer is required to verify and analyze the protocol. In this paper, we propose the protocol analyzer of LTE network which is the leader of the next generation mobile communication platforms. The protocol analyzer is a software based agent-server architecture and uses XML metadata which defines intercommunication messages to analyze the protocol of the next generation mobile communications. We can analysis the encoding messages applied to LTE network using the loading of the decoding library. We verify the superiority of the proposed analyzer through an integrated test with LTE network.

Lee, Jin-Seon ; Oh, Il-Seok ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 41~48
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.041
In feature selection, the selective evaluation scheme for Ant Colony Optimization(ACO) has recently been proposed, which reduces computational load by excluding unnecessary or less promising candidate solutions from the actual evaluation. Its superiority was supported by experimental results. However the experiment seems to be not statistically sufficient since it used only one dataset. The aim of this paper is to analyze convergence characteristics of the selective evaluation scheme and to make the conclusion more convincing. We chose three datasets related to handwriting, medical, and speech domains from UCI repository whose feature set size ranges from 256 to 617. For each of them, we executed 12 independent runs in order to obtain statistically stable data. Each run was given 72 hours to observe the long-time convergence. Based on analysis of experimental data, we describe a reason for the superiority and where the scheme can be applied.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.049
Fault Tree Analysis(FTA) builds fault trees to perform safety analysis of systems. However, building fault trees depends on domain knowledge and expertize on target systems and consumes lots of time and efforts. In this paper, we propose a technique that builds fault trees systematically based on state-transition models which are software design artifacts. For the end, this paper identifies conditions that should be satisfied to guarantee safety of state-transition models and develop templates for fault tree construction. This paper also describes the results of appling the proposed method to railway crossing control system.

As the role of soccer game analyst who analyzes soccer games and creates soccer wining strategies is emphasized, it is required to have high-level analysis beyond the procedural ones such as main event detection in the context of IT based broadcasting soccer game research community. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to generate the high-level in-depth analysis results via real-time text based soccer Webcast and text mining. Proposed method creates a metadata such as attribute, action and event, build index, and then generate available knowledges via text mining techniques such as association rule mining, event growth index, and pathfinder network analysis using Webcast and domain knowledges. We carried out a feasibility experiment on the proposed technique with the Webcast text about Spain team's 2010 World Cup games.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 69~76
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.069
As a smallest unit of the game story, quest needs to be analyzed in terms of structure in order to study quest storytelling. This thesis introduces structuralist theory of narrative function of folk-tale by Propp to determine the structure of the quest. Propp proposed immutable elements of the characters as 31 kinds of Folk-tale functions. I analyzed assigning quests in MMORPG. As a result, 13 essential functions of the Quest, and 5 add-ons were drawn and the order among functions was figured out. Most quests in MMORPG followed the order of the essential functions and optional add-ons and showed a repeating pattern. The essential and optional functions and its order can be utilized to arrange appropriate element for quest storytelling and to strengthen and lead the various ways of the quest storytelling.

Kim, Hee-Sun ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 77~84
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.077
Following the increase in the supply of smartphones and the increase in the use of wireless Internet, the online shopping environment is also changing into mobile shopping. However, the domestic mobile shopping services fall short of people's expectations compared to desktop Internet shopping malls. These are mainly due to the restricted screen size and inconvenient data entry of mobile devices, the slow Internet speed, and other restrictive conditions. Accordingly, in this paper, the usability of three main domestic mobile shopping malls was evaluated using a heuristic evaluation method. The factors that must be considered when producing a mobile website, the consideration for the mobile users, and the main functions of a shopping mall, were considered to define an evaluation form. The results of the evaluation were then analyzed to propose the problems of mobile shopping malls and the directions for their improvement.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.093
SO and Satellite Broadcaster can operate SO Operating channel in Korea. However, the Broadcasting act does not specify the direction of what purpose the SO operating channel would be operated for. Accordingly, SO and Satellite Broadcaster do not operate SO operating channel or use it as profit channel when operating. In this respect, the cases of U.S. and Japan have been studied to determine how SO operating channel should be operated to make it desirable. In the U.S., it is being used in various ways such as profit channel, multi-access channel and access channel. In Japan, it is mainly focused on the role as local channel, being coordinated with local governments to form public opinion on local news and issues or to announce local events. In Korea, SO is operating local channel similar to the one in Japan rather than SO operating channel, while Satellite Broadcasting is operating SO operating channel mainly for its profits. As SO operating channel is operated on the basis of the broadcasters' expediency without clear stipulation in Korea, we will need to seek the plan to use it for public interests by discussing more the status and operation of SO operating channel.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 115~127
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.115
As broadcasting contents are recognized as a key competition means, there are issues raised such as improvement of terrestrial retransmission system, introduction of PAR in broadcasting market and so forth. Especially, in pay broadcasting market, strategic partership between SP and PP leads to contents exclusivity for competitors, which causes to hinder normal competition and limit viewers' right of access. Consequently, not only is it claimed that essential facilities doctrine should be adopted in broadcasting market, but also clause of content equal access in IP TV law and adoption of prohibited acts regulation can be viewed in the same context. However, adoption of essential facilities doctrine in broadcasting market is likely to be counterproductive because of the differences of philosophies, economies and legal systems on which general facilities and contents are based. Therefore, it is time for a essential facilities concept, a fundamental concept of a refusal to dealing of essential facilities, and basic works to review specific cases and precedents implemented in competition laws market This study aims to review and propose beforehand if adoption of essential facilities doctrine is appropriate for broadcasting contents.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 128~136
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.128
This is a study on the subjectivity of audiences about preference of documentaries on TV. Accordingly, Q-methodology was used for this study. As a result, audiences' various characteristics by preference types were able to be found. The individual characteristics were classified into three styles: an entertainment-oriented style pursuing enjoyment, public and society interest-oriented style pursuing public purpose, and culture-oriented style pursuing artistic value of documentaries in order. It could be inferred from the classification of preference styles that unlike the past, the choice of TV broadcasting of audiences was shifting from the passive and media-dependent form to positive form. Therefore, the research and development of content delivery and production in the multi-media and multi-channel digital broadcasting era should be focused on not only the content itself but also an audience-centered service development model reflecting audiences' desire and hope.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.137
In Jane Campion's
Stewart, Ada's husband, as like modern people, manifests the infinite lust of conquest. But Banes has a humanistic relation with the New Zealand's tribe and doesn't have a deep attachment of his own land. Stewart represents the ruling reason in that he disregards his wife's desire and acts only for his desire to possess and conquest. In contrast with him, in order to satisfy her desire of the piano and hold her own inner world in common, Banes proposes the extraordinary deal, that is to say, to exchange her piano and his land and to learn playing the piano from her. Like this Banes represents the caring reason in that he regards Ada's desire and cares her in according to her purpose and himself.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 156~164
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.156
The world history of modern comics is not too long. So is the domestic history of modern comics. Besides, there is a tendency that the domestic history of comics has developed with introduction of foreign materials. Even though a few argue that the domestic history of modern comics had a sheer background with our tradition, this argument is considered as a kind of minority. Obviously, it is not easy to argue something with valid grounds in the field of comics history. It is needed to provide valid grounds of comics history from our history. Several symbols of comics were found in 'Three Bonds and the Morals in Human Relations' and 'The Sequel to Three Bonds and the Morals in Human Relations', Joseon. Particularly, comics frames were used to explain the contents in two books. This supports the fact that Korean comics history has its own base in the tradition. This study is on the analysis of 'comics frames' among symbols of comics in 'The Sequel to Three Bonds and the morals in Human Relations.' It is said that another objective of this study helps get a real idea of comics history of Joseon by studying the symbolic meaning of comics frames used in this period. On top of that, the result of the study that focuses on the symbolic meaning of comics frames in Joseon is expected to be used as a kind of comics history for the people who have a passion for comics.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 176~186
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.176
This study analyzed the consequences of using a company's own letter type for the brand image. After evaluating the brand image of companies that have their own letter types, the study concluded that the fact a company has its own letter type works positively for the brand image. In addition, the survey respondents see the corporate activity for developing letter types as an action for the public interest, and they agree with an argument that each company' own letter type can symbolize the company as CI. By studying literatures in the field of cognitive science, the study indicates that for communication through the letter type with consumers, companies should be careful when choosing their specific letter types and that repetitive exposure to a letter type helps people recognize it through a human experiment.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.217
In this study, we have examined how the potential users of IT convergence product use the external information sources for purchasing decision focusing on a case of smartphone. Although the specifications and price of IT convergence products, such as smartphone, tablet pc, and smart TV, are considered as major criteria for purchasing decision, the competitiveness of these factors have disappeared as many companies launch similar products in the market. External information sources play a significant role to differentiate the alternatives by offering value-added experience information. The effect of external information sources becomes stronger for experience and high-involvement product whose performance can be evaluated through only users' direct experience. In this study, we categorized the external information sources for smartphone into five; company ads, personal network, expert group, consumers, and media. Through an empirical study with potential smartphone users, we verified how these external information sources affect users' purchasing decision in the perspective of the perceived attributes of information source, quality of information, and individual's characteristics based on self-regulatory theory.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 242~256
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.242
The activity to share personal daily life through social media is becoming more common. In this case, photographs as well as text are used a lot; it has been as easy as winking to clip others' photographs just as it's very easy to take and post pictures. If the picture is the photographic work protected by the copyright law, however, the clipping should be paid close attention. If you use others' photographic works without authorization, you infringe their copyright; if you post them on your social media such as blog, you infringe the right of reproduction, interactive transmission and exhibition. Even though the clipping is permitted, if you'd like to use the photographic works for a profit-making purpose, you should get additional authorization. Others' photographic works are occasionally altered and used for the purpose of avoiding the argument in relation to the infringement of copyright; this act means that it's the infringement of the right of reproduction, the right to preserve the integrity and the right of the production of derivative works for degrees of alteration. We can download others' photographic works with a few mouse clicks thanks to the technology of capturing the screen; we have to recognize that all the acts technically possible are not always legal.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 257~266
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.257
The establishment of Culture Technology Institute is now under discussion. In case of advanced countries (including USA, Japan and EU) practices market-oriented policies in the area of culture and entertainment industry. Therefore it is hard to find out Government-funded Institute which Korea could benchmark. In this situation, there are many different opinions about its organizational structure, size of organization and budget, and when the institute should be established. This study proposed a Consolidated-Decentralized model as a proper organizational structure after evaluating 4 different models based on 4 criterion. And based on results produced by the model developed for our research, this study suggested proposals that the number of research personnel and the size of budget should be larger than 300 persons and 1200 billion won respectively. However, the establishment of institute should be decided by not only economic factor but also various factors such as political element, externality, private company investment and effect on production inducement etc. If new institute focused on different area from ETRI, then the time and size of the institute could be decided by the result of policy analysis.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 10, 2011, Pages 267~273
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.267
The purpose of this paper is to suggest the types of recovery activities and the major contents of preimpact recovery plan through theoretical review. Disaster recovery is to provide immediate support during the early recovery period necessary to return vital life support systems to minimum operation levels, and continuing to provide support until the community returns to normal. Disaster researchers distinguished 4 types in recovering from disaster as follows; an emergency period, a restoration period, a reconstruction period, and a developmental reconstruction period. And recovery measures are both short-term and long-term. Short-term measures are relief and rehabilitation and long-term measures include reconstruction. Finally, to design a preimpact recovery plan, we should define a disaster recovery organization that includes major stakeholders, identify the location of temporary housing, determine how to perform essential tasks, address the licensing and monitoring of contractors and retail price controls to ensure victims are not exploited, determine how recovery tasks will be carried out at historical sites, and recognize the recovery period as a unique time to enact policies for hazard mitigation and incorporate this objecive into the recovery planning process.

There are lot of arguments whether it is necessary to outsource public libraries in Korea. What are the impacts of outsourcing public libraries? Is it efficient and productive? How is the publicness of public libraries maintained after outsourcing? This article studies public library outsourcing in the U.S, England, Germany, and Japan, and finds implications for Korea. The results of this comparative study show that outsourcing public libraries is not common in many countries. However the number of outsourcing is slowly increasing. Public library outsourcing does not always enhance productivity and publicness. Outsourcing public libraries is only one of the various managing systems of public libraries, and each county has its own unique library management system. Korea should also develop its own outsourcing policies and strategies regarding public libraries to attain their productivity and publicness.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.10.286
This study investigated the degree of fracture healing using cathode stimulation of microcurrent, cathode and anode stimulation of High Voltage Pulsed Galvanic Current (HVPGC). Measures were performed by X-ray test and Hematoxylin-Eosin stain and Masson's trichrome stain and osteocalcin-positive immunoreactivity. In the measure of X-ray, microcurrent stimulation group revealed more rapid recovery than the groups of HVPGC's cathode and anode stimulation in bone union degrees. Microcurrent group showed significant difference statistically (p<0.05). However, the groups of HVPGC's cathode and anode stimulation didn't show significant difference statistically(p>0.05). In the histologic examination with Hematoxylin-Eosin and Masson's trichrome, microcurrent stimulation group was observed more proliferation of irregular woven bones than the groups of HVPGC's cathode and anode stimulation. Osteocalcin-positive immunoreactivity was observed more osteoblast, osteocyte, osteoclast, bone matrix than the groups of HVPGC's cathode and anode stimulation. Microcurrent stimulation can be considered an effective way during healing of fresh fracture and it can show more effective method than HVPGC's cathode and anode stimulation in the fracture healing.

To compare between calcium scoring CT (CSCT) and Low-dose CT (LDCT) image finding for coronary artery calcification (CAC) in screening of lung disease by MDCT. A total of 61 subjects who retired-workers exposed to inorganic dust were performed LDCT and CSCT by using a MDCT scanner on the same day, after be approved by the institutional review board, and obtaining the written informed consent from all subjects. LDCT images were read for detecting lung diseases as well as CAC by a experienced chest radiologist, then the subjects were divided either the positive group with CAC or the negative group without it. The CSCT was used to quantify and detect the presence of calcification in the coronary artery, and score of CAC calculated by using a Rapidia software (ver 2.8). In all coronary arteries, calcium score of positive group was higher better than that in negative group, especially in the total calcium (13.7 vs. 582.9, p=0.008) and the left anterior descending artery (3.2 vs. 249.0, p=0.006). CAC findings between CSCT and LDCT image were showed excellent agreement in cut-off point 100(K-value=0.80, 95% CI=0.69-0.91) from total calcium score. CAC findings on LDCT images showed the higher relation with CSCT. Therefore, the obstructive coronary artery disease could be predicted by CAC on LDCT images for screening of lung diseases.
