Lim, Choong-Gyoo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 12, 2011, Pages 1~11
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.001
An application`s demonstration takes much time because there are a number of interactions involved. When a demonstration is indeed necessary, a separate session of demonstration is commonly carried out besides a presentation. If one can control the application wirelessly using mobile devices, he can present his messages effectively by having a live self-paced demonstration. This method of demonstration has not been possible to implement due to the limitations on performance and/or screen size of feature phones. Lately commercialized smartphones, however, are equipped with better performance and various features so that they can be utilized to implement the new demonstration method. With these smartphones, one can view the application images right on mobile devices to control applications directly. This paper describes the issues of design and implementation of a mobile-based demonstration system, `Smart Demo`.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.012
Most smartphone use virtual keypads based on touch-pad. The virtual keypads often make typographical errors because of the physical limitations of device such as small screen and limited input methods. To resolve this problem, many similar word-finding methods have been studied. In the paper, we propose an edit distance method (a well-known string similarity measure) that is modified to consider various types of virtual keypads. The proposed method effectively covers typographical errors in various keypads by converting an input string into a physical key sequence and by reflecting characteristics of virtual keypads to edit scores. In the experiments with various keypads, the proposed method showed better performances than a typical edit distance method.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 12, 2011, Pages 19~27
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.019
The humanoid creatures like Na`Vi in `Avatar` remind the audience of a few actors` faces in the movie, enhance realism in film through combining CG and Live action which are related to the story. The design of face-recognizable humanoid creature is expected to be used in many ways; not only in film, but also in newest media. This research proposes to apply the main concept of Caricature which is `exaggeration` of distinctive face elements from their prototypes for `likeness` with the subjects. Also, it provides the idea of extracting the distinctive features of a face and combining the exaggerated subject as those features with an imaginary creature-other species, alien, etc. Finally, it proves the effectiveness of the design process with some experiments.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.028
While the broadband multimedia technologies have been developing, the commercial market of digital contents has also been widely spreading. Most of all, digital cartoon market like internet cartoon has been rapidly large so video cartooning continuously has been researched because of lack and variety of cartoon. Until now, video cartooning system has been focused in non-photorealistic rendering and word balloon. But the meaningful frame extraction must take priority for cartooning system when applying in service. In this paper, we propose new automatic frame extraction method for video cartooning system. At frist, we separate video and audio from movie and extract features parameter like MFCC and ZCR from audio data. Audio signal is classified to speech, music and speech+music comparing with already trained audio data using GMM distributor. So we can set speech area. In the video case, we extract frame using general scene change detection method like histogram method and extract meaningful frames in the cartoon using face detection among the already extracted frames. After that, first of all existent face within speech area image transition frame extract automatically. Suitable frame about movie cartooning automatically extract that extraction image transition frame at continuable period of time domain.

The key issues of recommendation systems provide the contents satisfying the interests of users for the huge amounts of contents over internet. The existing recommendation system use the algorithms considering the users` profiles and context information to enhance the exactness of a recommendation. However, the existing recommendation system can`t satisfy the requirements of service providers because the business models of service providers is not considered. In this paper, we propose the mobile recommendation system using the composite contexts and the recommendation weights applying the business model of service providers. The proposed system retrieves the contents of the contents providers using composite context information and apply the recommendation weights to recommend the suitable contents for the business models of service providers. Therefore, we provide the contents satisfying the consumption value of users and the business models of service providers to mobile users.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.060
Conventional content management systems are independently developed for a specific field in general. Therefore usage of contents for the CMS will be limited to the corresponding CMS field. These characteristics might reveal a defect that CMS could not support effectively in exchange and sharing of information between CMSs. On the other hand, metadata standardization shows big differences in method and representation for the fields of CMS because all metadata standardizations are variously performed according to applications of them. There are lots differences that make interoperability between CMSs impossible. In this paper, we propose a novel metadata schema based on METS(metadata encoding and transmission standard) so that metadata standardization can be fulfilled in reality and solved the problem of duplicated contents created from different CMSs. This framework of integrated metadata proposed here can offer an interoperability between contents created by different CMSs, and discard duplicated contents. As a result of the proposed technology, we obtain 0.5% duplication rate from traditional 10.3%. In addition the filtering ability of duplicated contents shows from 92% to 96%, which proves the effectiveness and stability of the proposed technology.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.078
A variety of intelligent application using the sensor network system is being studied. In general, the sensor network consists of nodes which equipped with a variety of sensing module and is utilized to collect environment information. Recently, the demands of multimedia data are increasing due to the demands of more detailed environmental monitoring or high-quality data. In this paper, we overcome the limitations of low bandwidth in Zigbee-based sensor networks and propose a routing algorithm for real-time multimedia data transmission. In the previously proposed algorithm for multimedia data transmission occurs delay time of routing setup phase and has a low data transmission speed due to bandwidth limitations of Zigbee. In this paper, we propose the hybrid routing algorithm that consist of Zigbee and Bluetooth and solve the bandwidth problem of existing algorithm. We also propose the disjointed multipath setup algorithm based on competition that overcome delay time of routing setup phase in existing algorithm. To evaluate the superiority of the proposed algorithm, we compare it with the existing algorithm. Our experimental results show that the latency was reduced by approximately 78% and the communication speed is increased by approximately 6.9-fold.

Go, Yun-Mi ; Kwon, Kyung-Hee ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 12, 2011, Pages 88~93
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.088
Due to vulnerable authentication scheme of SIP, intruders can easily impersonate legitimate user. HTTP Digest authentication scheme or private key issued by trust third parties has been used to prevent impersonation attack. However, these methods have suffered security vulnerability or service delay due to computation overhead. In this paper, we propose new authentication method to generate automatically one-time password using the pre-shared password and time information of messages exchanged between SIP UA(User Agent) and SIP Registrar. This method protects against impersonation attack without significant modification of exiting SIP authentication procedure to build securer SIP environment.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 12, 2011, Pages 122~135
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.122
Mobile spam message is a harmful factor which makes receivers to be annoyed and leads to unnecessary social cost. Unwanted junk messages flowing to a smart phone ruin main purpose of the smart work system to enhance the productivity, so we need to study on this area. In this paper, we proposed a novel spam filter on the smartphone in order to reduce computing process and improve the accuracy rate by feedback of error results to a training sample set. As the spam classifier operates on the smartphone independently with training on only user`s received data, it could reflect user preference. The authorized personal computer takes on heavy works, such as preprocessing, feature selecting and training process, and the smartphone takes on light works to block junk messages. Experimental results showed reasonable accuracy rate of over 95%, and we found that the application occupied constant computing resources while running on the phone.

was written by Anthony E. Zuiker who is famous for American TV series C.S.I.
is a thriller and is published for the iPad. This e-book provides three levels of interaction within the book. Zuiker calls this e-book a "Digi-Novel". The readers can choose the level of interaction:novel, digi-novel or ultimate digi-novel. The basic background story is the same. So we can compare the difference of reading experience of three levels. Digi-Novel are differentiated from other e-books through their complex characters. Consequently a well-throughout detailed background story is very important for Digi-Novels. In addition, it enrich the reading experience through the interactive elements and multimedia functions of iPad. Readers can interact with clues, manipulate evidence and listen to audio sounds. This serves to immerse the readers much more deeply in the reading experience and makes readers feel like they are a part of story.

The fear of civilians has recently increased due to sexual crimes. Unlike other crimes, sexual crimes mostly go unreported and are more likely to be repeated. The rape cases, which constitute the highest percentage of sexual crimes, represent that 62% of the sex offenders were ex-convicts in 2009. Therefore this study examined activities to prevent sexual crimes implemented by Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Gender Equality & Family, Police`s criminal management as well as 1:1 management of ex-convicts, and sexual offender management of foreign nations as the measure for sexual crimes, which cause social problems. From these, we suggested legal, institutional and practical problems, as well as solutions such as manual production, revision of related laws and special police education.

Today`s policing is toward to the Community Policing. Despite its widespread popularity, there exists a lack of common understanding among academics and practitioners alike regarding the scope of the community policing philosophy and of its ability to integrate these complementary ideas within it. These are Problem-oriented policing, broken windows, Compstat, third-party policing, and hot spots. We will present a definition of community policing and demonstrate how these other policing approaches can be incorporated into the overarching community policing philosophy. We will also discuss the potential benefits of taking such a unified approach with the hope of encouraging further integration among policing innovations.

The purpose of this research is to provide a primary data to help adaptation of active duty soldiers` military life by figuring how self-esteem, anxiety of interpersonal relationships, and depression are related to adaptation directly or indirectly. The research has done by 127 of the soldiers on service. According to the result of this research, when their self-esteem gets raised, the anxiety of interpersonal relationship and the rate of depression go down. This higher self-esteem effects on getting higher adaptation of military life. However, if the anxiety of interpersonal relationships grows, this causes much more serious depression and makes hard to get adaptation of military life. Consequently this research identifies that anxiety of interpersonal relationships as a parameter mediates between self-esteem and adaptation of military life. In order to help soldiers adapt to their military life properly, the discussion and proposal have done with direct or indirect relationship among variables.

In this paper, we proposed the MCE as a GMM training method to improve the performance of environmental sounds recognition. We model the environmental sounds data with newly defined misclassification function using the log likelihood of the corresponding class and the log likelihood of the rest classes for discriminative training. The model parameters are estimated with the loss function using GPD(generalized probabilistic descent). For recognition performance comparison, we extracted the 12 degrees features using preprocessing and MFCC(mel-frequency cepstral coefficients) of the 9 kinds of environmental sounds and carry out GMM classification experiments. According to the experimental results, MCE training method showed the best performance by an average of 87.06% with 19 mixtures. This result confirmed us that MCE training method could be effectively used as a GMM training method in environmental sounds recognition.

In Oriental medicine, the status of a tongue is the important indicator to diagnose the condition of internal organs in a body. A tongue diagnosis is not only convenient but also non-invasive, and therefore widely used in Oriental medicine. But tongue diagnosis has some problems that should be objective and standardized, it also exhaust the diagnosis tool that can help for oriental medicine doctor`s decision-making. In this paper, to solve the this problem we propose a method that calculates the tongue geometry information for effective tongue diagnosis analysis. Our method is to extract the tongue region for using improved snake algorithm, and calculates the geometry information by using convex hull and In-painting. In experiment, our method has stable performance as 7.2% by tooth plate and 8.5% by crack in region difference ratio.

Recently various handheld multimedia devices are spreading, and users want to share media contents across their own multiple devices. Conventional synchronization techniques for N-screen services can continuously play contents by switching from an initial device to a new device. In this case, even if a new device plays continuously contents, the initial device stops playing them. In this paper, we propose a synchronization technique in which multiple devices can share and continuously play same contents simultaneously by gathering and passing URI and current play-time of the contents. The proposed synchronization technique is built on UPnP and DLNA, and tested by implementing a wireless home media network system.

In this paper, a new image watermarking algorithm is proposed which can hide specific information of an ID card`s owner in photo image for preventing ID`s photo forgery. Proposed algorithm uses the image segmentation and the correlation peak position modulation of spread spectrum. The watermark embedded in photo ensures not only robustness against printing and scanning but also sufficient information capacity hiding unique number such as social security numbers in small-sized photo. Another advantage of proposed method is extracting accurate information with error tolerance within some rotation range by using
unit sample space not instead
pixels for insertion and extraction of information. 40 bits information can be embedded and extracted at
sized ID photo with BER value of 0 % when the test condition is 300dpi scanner and photo printer with 22 photos. In conclusion, proposed algorithm shows the robustness for noise and rotational errors occured during printing and scanning.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.560
In this paper, we propose a text processing method for Hindi characters, Devanagari scripts, in the Android. The key points of the text processing are to device automata, which define the combining rules of alphabets into a set of syllables, and to implement a font rendering engine, which retrieves and displays the glyph images corresponding to specific characters. In general, an automaton depends on the type and the number of characters. For the soft-keyboard, we designed the automata with 14 consonants and 34 vowels based on Unicode. Finally, a combined syllable is converted into a glyph index using the mapping table, used as a handle to load its glyph image. According to the multi-lingual framework of Freetype font engine, Dvanagari scripts can be supported in the system level by appending the implementation of our method to the font engine as the Hindi module. The proposed method is verified through a simple message system.

In this paper, Policy-based QoS in 3GPP service network management techniques are not applied to the DiffServ technology is applied to the first interpretation. The next PBNM and DiffServ associated technologies by applying QoS performance improvement is verified. In this case that PBNM and DiffServ technology is applied, the amount of voice traffic reduced about 1 msec while best-effort traffic occurs 75 percent of the output link capacity. Also, video traffic which is the same as data traffic showed a decreased
packet loss rate than the case that DiffServ technology is applied. We apply the appropriate policy PBNM and DiffServ QoS mechanisms of the existing set of policies is not affected, just by using the appropriate 3GPP Service QoS level to suit the network operation, management can do that was found. This analytical method based on the University of California at Berkeley through NS-2 DiffServ technology into existing systems and next-generation networks mandated PBNM and DiffServ technology is applied to performance evaluation for the case.

Nowadays, wireless local area networks are widely deployed so that stations can potentially associate with an access point. The AP selection strategy is one of the significant research areas for wireless local area networks. The selection strategy solves the relevant problem is which AP can be selected and associated with a station so that the efficient resource utilization can be obtained. Rather than merely choosing the AP with the strongest received signal strength, however, we calculate effective throughput for each neighboring AP and use it as a basis for AP selection. Referencing the throughput is better than referencing the signal strength only because the network may contain a severe load imbalance. We have performed computer simulations using OPNET modeler in order to verify the performance of the proposed scheme. The results show us that the proposed selection method outperforms that of the conventional one in terms of throughput and delay.

In the IT industry, processing units of IT applications are getting smaller and high efficient. Furthermore, the realization of various smart functions is highly feasible now due to advances in sensing technology. The service infrastructures on high efficient and compact mobile devices are applied to various areas. These also could be possessed by users and is built into the devices. Currently, studies on the UX(User Experience) field to attempt an analysis and prediction of user`s information are continuing with reference to the UI(User Interface). However, research on the common framework of classification and storing the user-information, and standardization of form has not been attempted yet. In this study, we proposed the AUX(Associative user Experience) model and process structure to store various empirical data by users. The AUX model expressed a diversity of user`s empirical data using extended E-TCPN model. And also, we expressed the data structure using XML with reference to the application of AUX model. This expressed model and separation of process structure guarantee its specialty, productivity and flexibility through the humanistic characteristics of users and the independence of technical process structure. The AUX model maps out the AUX information process architecture and expressed the process with the improved MPP algorithm, to analyze of its performance. The simulation of movements applying to MPP traffic allocation of VOD is used to analyze of its performance. The playback deviation of MPP Graphic Allocation Algorism where the AUX model was applied was improved by 10.41% more than the one where it was not applied. As a result of that, playback performance has improved due to the conversion of AUX with accessing media, content of users and dynamic traffic allocation such as MPI and CPI.

In database application developments, data coexists in memory and disk spaces. To manipulate the memory data, the general programing languages are used and to manipulate the disk data, SQL is used. In particular, the procedural languages for the memory manipulation are difficult to create and manage than declarative languages such as SQL. Thus, this paper shows that a particular structure of memory data, tree structured, can be manipulated by SQL. Most of all, the model data of the user interfaces can be represented by a tree structure and thus, it can be processed by SQL except non set computations. The non set computations could be done by helper classes. The SQL memory data manipulation is more suited to the database application developments which have few complex computations.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 12, 2011, Pages 658~673
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.658
This paper examined some problems of media coverage of religion by analyzing a television documentary. The SBS-TV documentary "God`s way Man`s way" aired in 2008, critically presented the basic Christian doctrine. The producers of the program estimate that protestant churches in Korea have become an established power, which has influence on a societal and political level. Therefore the producers believe that they have the right to criticize that power, especially because its doctrine about salvation leads to serious conflict with other religions, for example, Islam. This program portrayed the doctrine of Jesus as a story borrowed from ancient myths. Consequently, there were harsh protests from the Korean Christian milieu, especially protestants. The author agrees that it is important for the media to critically cover the activities of religious institutions and the behaviors of religious people in the civil society. However, if producers of a documentary want to introduce controversial doctrines of one religion to an audience, they should present the orthodox ones with alternatives or opposing ones, according to the principle of objectivity and fairness of journalism. Since every religion has its mysterious doctrine that cannot be proven by science and reason, journalists should not criticize the sacred part of religion. This paper suggested some ethical points to the media, children of Enlightenment Age, when they cover the religion including its doctrine and mysterious parts.

Reinterpretation of Contemplation through the Studies of Physical and Esthetic Perspectives in New Media Art
Koh, Chang-Sun ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 12, 2011, Pages 723~733
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.12.723
In contemporary art, the process of appreciating art works requires the dichotomy between traditional art and New Media Art. This difference can be witnessed in the contrasting ways of appreciating art works; in traditional art, a certain physical and esthetic distance is placed between viewers and works of art, and in New Media Art, art is appreciated by active involvement and communication. In other words, this disparity is based on whether viewers physically involve themselves in the completion of the art works. Perhaps contemporary art can be better understood and appreciated if a single primary keyword takes the center place of art appreciation rather than allowing the dichotomy. Thus, a new approach is welcome, where art appreciation is not adversely affected through such divided means based on the degree of active participation. This is not some new introduction of jargon but the reinterpretation of contemplation, the key word for art appreciation in the past, as the common key word for both conventional art and New Media Art.

The beginning that the `Obstruction of Justice` in the United States is commonly known to Korea is through the impeachment of former president W. J. Clinton in 1998. The `Obstruction of Justice` in the federal law of the United States is comprehensively provided with a general and a particular rule laying emphasis on the obstruction of legal judiciary proceedings. But, according to the Korean Criminal Act and court decisions, there are no such system like the `Obstruction of Justice` in the United States. In this result, in terms of the criminal-judicial system, some cases even telling a lies has more benefits than revealing the truth and it is discouraged to cooperate the achievement of judicial justice, which make difficulties in investigation and realizing real truth. For this reason, the Ministry of Justice in Korea makes efforts to introduce the `Obstruction of Justice`. Nevertheless we should examine from all angles that the introduction of `Obstruction of Justice` is indeed the alternative in our circumstances. Most of the discussions on the introduction of `Obstruction of Justice` and also the revised bill of the Ministry of Justice are questions of `False Statement of Suspect and Witness` for investigation of investigative agency, rather than for the introduction of a general rule on the `Obstruction of Justice`. The introduction of `False Statement of Suspect and Witness` for investigation of investigative agency needs to consider concern about human rights infringement and witness protection system should be reinforced in the first place. In other words, the introduction of `False Statement of Suspect and Witness` for investigation process of investigative agency is undesirable now.

The analysis of the tourist industry in relation to the general industries is of high use as a means to measure an economic effectiveness as the interest in the policy of service industry increases. From the Input-Output Tables of both 2007 and 2008, Inverse Matrix Coefficients, Imports Requirement Coefficients, and Value Added Requirement Coefficients have been derived. As a result of analysis, the main indexes of the industry-related analysis have almost no differences as compared with those of the 1980s. In spite of the reduction in the scope of the tourist industry in this paper, it is estimated that the reason why the above-mentioned result has been derived is that the influence of today`s tourist industry grows bigger than that of the past. In the future studies, the agreement on the classification of tourist industry is requested. In addition, all kinds of calculations have to be derived in general, and the general parts of the tourist industry have to be analyzed in details.

National highway is one of the social infrastructures that continue to be managed in order to serve their full functions. The national highway has been managed by the Pavement Management System (PMS) until now. The PMS manages the highway as a way of facility maintenance and maximizes the service life of the highway with minimum cost. The cost is evaluated mainly with a facility manager`s perspective based on engineering judgment. People`s needs of quality of life have been increased as their income level is rising and naturally the opinion of citizen as a taxpayer plays an important role in determining national policy. Therefore, the contentment of a user`s perspective was the starting point of addressing these needs. The Level of Service began to be used as a measure for the evaluation of the user`s perspective. In this thesis we would like to design an application and a data architecture for a pavement asset management system and to show how it meets the requirements of KTAM-40 Systems.

As the social infrastructure becomes deteriorated, its maintenance cost has been increased rapidly. There are growing needs to manage facilities systematically to reduce this kind of maintenance budget, and furthermore to avoid safety accidents in Korea. Asset management is widely used in New Zealand, the United States, Great Britain to manage their social facilities. In these countries, standardized information model and its system are developed and in service for asset management. There are several researches on asset management of social infrastructure in Korea, and the KTAM-40 work procedure is one of the main results for these researches. In this paper, the IIMM of New Zealand and the KTAM-40 of Korea, were surveyed to develop a business architecture of the highway asset management system. A new business architecture for the highway asset management system is proposed based on the KTAM-40 work procedure: First, the organization and its role for the highway asset management are defined. Second, business functions of the highway asset management are classified. Third, the highway asset management functions and the flow of information are defined. In the last section, differences between the newly designed architecture and the other systems` architecture is reviewed.
