Chung, Won-Ho ; Lim, Yang-Mi ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 2, 2011, Pages 1~12
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.001
Movie contents requiring multiple shootings in places need much man power and many equipments. It is more serious in the case of multiple simultaneous shootings. In the points of small broadcasting companies, it is more difficult to cope with the situation, but it is also an essential task for the variety of video contents. We propose an one-person movie production scheme based on an IP camera-based live webcasting system which makes multiple shootings in places possible. It consists of three main functions of (1) collecting multiple video streams sent from IP cameras installed in places, (2) properly distributing them to Internet, and (3) receiving and editing them including recording video. By using the proposed scheme, we can be able to remotely utilize a new framework of Single-Person/ Multiple-Camera which beyonds the conventional Single-Person/Single-Camera framework. It becomes possible to take multiple simultaneous shoots in places. We can get an advantage of saving man power and time for producing various movie contents.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.013
It is not easy to develop the system as the subjective-type evaluation has the difficulty in natural language processing. This thesis designs and implements the automatic evaluation system with natural language processing technique. To solve the degradation of general evaluation system, we define the question type and improve the performance of evaluation through the adaptive process for each question type. To evaluate the system, we analyze the correlation between human evaluation and term-based evaluation, and between human evaluation and this system evaluation. We got the better result than term-based evaluation. It needs to expand the question type and improve the adaptive processing technique for each type.

In the IT convergence environment changed with not only the quality but also the material abundance, it is the most crucial factor for the strategy of personalized recommendation services to investigate the context information. In this paper, we proposed the recommendation using the service ontology based context awareness modeling. The proposed method establishes a data acquisition model based on the OSGi framework and develops a context information model based on ontology in order to perform the device environment between different kinds of systems. In addition, the context information will be extracted and classified for implementing the recommendation system used for the context information model. This study develops the ontology based context awareness model using the context information and applies it to the recommendation of the collaborative filtering. The context awareness model reflects the information that selects services according to the context using the Naive Bayes classifier and provides it to users. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we conducted sample T-tests so as to verify usefulness. This evaluation found that the difference of satisfaction by service was statistically meaningful, and showed high satisfaction.

Kim, Jin-Ho ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 2, 2011, Pages 31~39
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.031
The facial recognition algorithms using Gabor wavelet based face graph produce very good performance while they have some weakness such as a large amount of computation and an irregular result depend on initial location. We proposed a fully automatic facial recognition algorithm using a Gabor feature based geometric deformable face graph matching. The initial location and size of a face graph can be selected using Adaboost detection results for speed-up. To find the best face graph with the face model graph by updating the size and location of the graph, the geometric transformable parameters are defined. The best parameters for an optimal face graph are derived using an optimization technique. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can produce very good performance with recognition rate 96.7% and recognition speed 0.26 sec for FERET database.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 2, 2011, Pages 40~53
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.040
This paper proposes methods of evaluating and measuring accessibility of accredited certificate subscriber software which is one of crucial applications to submit personal certifications while web surfing. The presented methodology is to evaluate accessibility by using a certain assessment tool and is to normalize accessibility level into points, so that the software developers who are unfamiliar to screen readers can easily perform accessibility evaluation. The software from the major 78 organizations has went through the assessment. Those of 48 organizations, 62% out of the total, have acquired less than 70 points, implying the software of them is not accessible by the blind. The remaining 18 software got the highest point(88), are partly inaccessible by the blind that uses screen readers. This implies that the proposed methods are applicable to evaluate the accessibility of the software.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 2, 2011, Pages 69~78
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.069
Recently, the bandwidth available to an end user has been dramatically increasing with the advancing of network technologies. This high-speed network naturally requires faster and/or stable data transmission techniques. The UDT(UDP based Data Transfer protocol) is a UDP based transport protocol, and shows more efficient throughput than TCP in the long RTT environment, with benefit of rate control for a SYN time. With a NAK event, however, it is difficult to expect an optimum performance due to the increase of fixed sendInterval and the flow control based on the previous RTT. This paper proposes a rate control method on following a NAK, by adjusting the sendInterval according to some degree of RTT period which calculated from a set of experimental results. In addition, it suggests an improved flow control method based on the TCP vegas, in order to predict the network congestion afterward. An experimental results show that the revised flow control method improves UDT`s throughput about 20Mbps. With combining the rate control and flow control proposed, the UDT throughput can be improved up to 26Mbps in average.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 2, 2011, Pages 126~134
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.126
Recently, many researchers are interested in using join queries to correlate sensor readings stored in different regions. In the conventional algorithm, the preliminary join coordinator collects the synopsis from sensor nodes and determines a set of sensor readings that are required for processing the join query. Then, the base station collects only a part of sensor readings instead of whole readings and performs the final join process. However, it has a problem that incurs communication overhead for processing the preliminary join. In this paper, we propose a novel energy-efficient in-network join scheme that solves such a problem. The proposed scheme determines a preliminary join coordinator located to minimize the communication cost for the preliminary join. The coordinator prunes data that do not contribute to the join result and performs the compression of sensor readings in the early stage of the join processing. Therefore, the base station just collects a part of compressed sensor readings with the decompression table and determines the join result from them. In the result, the proposed scheme reduces communication costs for the preliminary join processing and prolongs the network lifetime.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.142
All medical information over sensor networks need to transmit and process securely in the u-Health services. The reliability of transmission between u-Health medical sensor devices and gateway is very important issue. When the user moves to other place with u-Health devices, its signal strength is going down and is far from the coverage of gateway. In this case, Malicious user can be carried out an intrusion under the situation. And also rogue gateway can be tried to steal medical information. Therefore, it needs mutual authentication between sensor devices and gateway. In this paper, we design a mutual authentication protocol which divided sessions from an authenticated session are updated periodically. And in order to reduce the traffic overhead for session authentication, we also introduce dynamic session management according to sampling rate of medical sensor type. In order to verify this, we implemented the programs for the test-bed, and got an overall success from three types of experiment.

The FPS, featured with high quality graphic of superior visual reality, is steadily growing because of the improvement of computer performance and technological advancement of game production. But most of the FPS games provide monotonous freedom with which players can only change the weapons in one character and this will make users lose their interests when playing games for long hours. Valve has introduced `Team Fortress Classic` in 1999, in order to change the monotonous game methods. This game has attracted great attention because of the composition of various and unique characters through the introduction of military specialty system: that is the first trial in the history of FPS game. I, by analyzing this using MBTI, intend to analyze how much of immersion and interest the characters of various military specialties can provide to players when FPS games are developed.

This paper proposed an efficient game character design method through semiotic analysis of character. It inquired into the characteristics of game character of various contents characters, added the concept of "Iconic abstraction" of Scott McCloud to its characteristics, and studied on the relation between the character and the semiotics. The semiotic character from the factual character, seized the strong and weak point of each character, and divided them in the designer`s character production process and gamer`s character recognition process step by step for its semiotic interpretation. As a result, two processes were reversely progressed, and the character designing process considering this gamer`s semiotic recognition process is expected to be the efficient character design element that can deliver the whole characteristics of game contents.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 2, 2011, Pages 186~194
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.186
This manuscript aims to study on the strategy in conversion of media to movie as the second exit for consumption on the webtoon and it can strengthen the position of webtoon as the orignal work. This was just since webtoon had been adapted in other media. The characteristics of media in webtoon can be merit but is variable because the characteristics of media between movie and webtoon are entirely different.
, webtoon had storytelling with impressive characters as the component which was proper to media of movie in comparison of the precedent works whose media had been converted from the original webtoon. In case of movies whose media had been converted from the original webtoon, it is inevitably to be dramatized by a director because it is converted to completely different media. The discriminative factors of storytelling are largely owed to the variation of the simple lined characters and structure of storytelling. These could make receivers understand easily when they watch the movie
. And then, it had a role as the mechanism that receivers satisfied their expectation. Finally, the movie
was succeed with these reasons.

Kim, Gye-Joong ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 2, 2011, Pages 195~203
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.195
This case study is based on a fundamental class actually done in the film and video department in Sungkyul University. It aimed at suggesting supportive role for typical film production class in universities in Korea. The list of film styles mentioned in this text is selected from the actual ones for the class and it is focused on utilization of sound and camera. It is ultimately designed to guide students to actual making films. First of all, for example, with a humble camcoder, students are encouraged to record both image and his/her narration which is directly recorded into the built-in microphone. Also directional microphone could be used to experience various positions of `point-of-hearing`. Regarding camera movements, only distinctive ones out of typical utilization are selected to be dealt with. The movements created by moving vehicle such as dolly or crane beyond the limit of human ability could bring up high imagination of students on movement, besides this could be also easily applied to them for using hand-held technique instead of vehicle. This attitude acquired through the course is important for gettig over the resistance they might have before actual experiencing machinary use in production.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 2, 2011, Pages 204~214
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.204
This article attenpts to analyze, from the perspective of post-colonialism, `Goemul`(English title, The Host), the Korean blockbuster movie that scored the greatest box-office success in the history of the Korean cinema. As Goemul eagerly copies the monster movie, a representative genre of Hollywood movies, it has close affinity with Hollywood blockbuster movie in many repects. At the same time, however, it also contains a resistance discourse that criticizes and mocks colonial of Korean society under American influences. This movie successfully carries out a post-colonial cultural translation that transforms mimicry into resistance to colonialsim. Hence, this artcle focuses on how Goemul borrows many aspects of the Hollywood monster movie but goes beyond the simple copying of it to reach post-colonial signification subverting the existing cultural regime.
Research on the Semiotic Analysis of Father Characters` Paternity in Korean Films

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 2, 2011, Pages 215~228
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.215
In the history, `father` has been described as a being who not only take care of the family but also represents the family socially and supports them. Like the Western patriarchal tradition prevalent in the 19th century, fathers in Korean society also bear patriarchal paternity based on Korean traditional Confucian culture. In such a unique family culture of Korea, Korean fathers hold the patriarchal male centered idea and regard it as the roles of man and father to be responsible for the family`s living and safety and to be more rational than emotional and more blunt than gentle. Social ideology for this image of father is expressed in media, and an example is the patriarchal image of father in TV dramas and movies. In order to analyze the image of Korean fathers described in films, this study selected two films and examined the semiological meanings of fathers` roles expressed in the films using Metz`s syntagmatic and paradigmatic analysis method. The films chosen for case study are `Fly Daddy`, `The Show Must Go On`, and `Speed Scandal`. These films are good examples demonstrating that Korean patriarchal paternity and its background traditional ideology are projected on media.

All over the world, the interest in technology and industrial value has been increasing rapidly due to the continuing commercial successes of three dimensional films. However, after the commercial success of
, without exception, lots of three dimensional films had been produced thoughtlessly. Hereby, these films incurred a censure owing to bad degree of completion related to insufficient storytelling and directing. For three dimensional films, characteristic of producing should be considered perfectly in the planning stage unlike previous films. This study concentrates upon proper directing for three dimensional films, and analyzes the method of it, roughly divided into three parts ; the lapse of time, directing the screen which can highlight space sense, and the point of sight. Henceforth, The demand of three dimensional contents will increase all around the world, at such time, we also should take note of the change, and then produce excellent contents which can lead to have a chance to gain the supper hand in the market of three dimensional contents.
Impact of Cutback of Screen Quota in Korean Movie Market: Three Years Before and After the Screen Quota Reduction in 2006
Kim, Jung-Ho ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 2, 2011, Pages 238~250
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.238
In 2006, the number of days of the screen quota (theatrical movie screening days of Korean produced films in a year required by the law) was reduced to 73 days from 146 days per year. Three years after the reduction of screen quota, this paper studies the impact of reduction of screen quota system on Korean produced films. Using Non-parametric statistics, Gini Index and Regression analysis, this study shows that the average number of Korean moviegoer of Korean films which was released last three years(2007-2009) after the cutback of screen quota in 2006 is reduced to 640,109.9123 from 1,107,217.82 for three years(2003-2005) before the cutback. And this is significant in statistics. while Hollywood film gets 76,168,518 more audiences than the total number of audience for 2003-2005, the total numbers of Korean films is cut to 218,917,590 (2007-2009) from 245,802,356 (2003-2005). Gini Index of 2009(0.84) indicates that the inequality of a distribution of box office performance of Korean films is getting worse after the cutback. For now, the reduction of screen quota has negative effects for Korean films. Only the technological advance, education of relates personnel, redesigning of the related infrastructure, market-driven movies, creative production, and the promotion of the independent films can reduced the negative effects.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.2.251
Nowadays, `fusion style` television programs are increasingly found in the production of television program. Originally such a trend has been developed with a purpose of changing tedious cultural program into entertaining style. Recently, however, it has also become as an alternative style of genre which is against from lasciviousness or lewdness of entertaining programs. This study is designed to analyse the characteristics of television production and theorize a producing process of the television genre-over program As a result of various aspects of research, it is found that recent producers who make genre-over program choose any kind of genre which is thought to be needed for their program, without any limitation in terms of methods or skills for specific genre. And with this change of concept for making programs, genre-over programs are newly defined as the entertaining programs, in which its entertaining function is widen and broaden, absorbing the informative function of cultural programs.

Although having only become a unified nation in latter 19th century, Germany saw a movement centered on intellectuals to find culture via mental revolution after experiencing much confusion amidst rapid urbanization and materialism. Having expressed as they are such psychological states as anger, sorrow, repression, etc., which arise in reality, by remaining faithful to instinctive sensibility, the form naturally becomes distorted or exaggerated and continues on the tradition of romanticism of a powerful, dark, and introverted atmosphere. Having been discontinued after being branded as `decadent art` by the Nazis of Fascism, expressionist art has returned in latter 20th century mainly centered on Germany, and this merits our attention. While neo expressionists actively use various objets and media, they metaphorically express hope about Germany`s culture and society by again placing on the screen figures, myths, and symbols using rough brush touch, rich colors, etc., which past expressionists enjoyed using to represent the inner world of humans. As such, by examining expressionism, which can be seen as the origin of neo expressionism, we will discover the context in which these people conform to Germany`s traditional romanticism and how they inherited and developed it.

In this paper, we analyzed audience satisfaction procedures in performing art, specifically in musical, in terms of Expectation Disconfirmation Theory. We analyzed one`s expectations and outcomes over time; we first classified audience expectations and outcomes about environmental elements as `the first expectation`/`the first outcome` and about watching situation & content itself as `the second expectation`/`the second outcome`, then analyzed by comparing those two. Through surveying and analyzing the result, this paper serves that the ultimate fact which affects on the final audience satisfaction is `the second outcome`, which is the outcome about watching situation & content itself. This paper also shows that audience expectation toward physical quality of environment affects to `the second expectation`, then `the second expectation` affects to `the second outcome`, so then affects to the final satisfaction. However, `the first outcome` doesn`t affect to `the second expectation`; in other words, the physical environment does not affect much to the audience final satisfaction. We expect that our study provides clues for venue management in performing arts.

For us who live in the 21 century, a variety of media and videos such as TV, movies, magazines, internet, etc. have now become indispensable entities. Because of changing age, unlimited sharing of information, and development of machines, fashion and ideas are rapidly conveyed and theres is also a tendency to seek after more sense based and stimulating things. Around us, there are innumerable colors which do not seem to have any special presence like the air and go beyond human ability to identify them. Such colors exert direct influence upon the visual culture and most rapidly reflect that age`s trend. It is precisely from this perspective that the importance of neon colors, which have recently received the spotlight, have emerged in a magnified way. Yet, although much research has been conducted on colors by earlier studies, there has been no research on neon colors and as such, I felt the need for a study of neon colors. The purpose of this study is to recognize the importance and psychology of colors within the visual culture, discover whether there is a correlation between the characteristics of neon colors and the visual culture, and seek ways to demonstrate it by applying it to art education.

Portfolio has recently come to gain more attention from school as an alternative evaluation tool and a self-reflective learning tool for learning. After literature reviews about the case studies on the use of portfolio in higher education including both universities in Korea and abroad, this study attempted, first, to analyze the current e-portfolio system running in Kyung Hee University for the undergraduate students starting from the spring semester, 2010, and then, suggested the ways the system can be more actively utilized among the students, and simultaneously, acquiring more interest and participation from both the faculty members and the school administrators. The data collected from the survey and reflective journals of the students suggested 1) more user-friendly, easy-to-edit version of the system, 2) more diverse modes and functions of the system which, therefore, are able to adjust well to the specific and unique features of subjects or majors of the students, and 3) collaborative learning environments among the students and between the students and the faculty members from which students can share, participate, interact with each other, getting useful feedback from those co-learners and faculty members. Eventually the study aimed to enhance the recognition of the participants about the importance of portfolio as a learning tool for self-reflective learning and authentic evaluation of the students.
