DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.3.001
Automatic vehicle license plate recognition technology is widely used in gate control and parking control of vehicles, and police enforcement of illegal vehicles. However inherent geometric information of the license plate can be transformed in the vehicle images due to the slant and the sunlight or lighting environment. In this paper, a distortion invariant vehicle license plate extraction and recognition algorithm is proposed. First, a binary image reserving clean character strokes can be achieved by using a DoG filter. A plate area can be extracted by using the location of consecutive digit numbers that reserves distortion invariant characteristic. License plate is recognized by using neural networks after geometric distortion correction and image enhancement. The simulation results of the proposed algorithm show that the accuracy is 98.4% and the average speed is 0.05 seconds in the recognition of 6,200 vehicle images that are obtained by using commercial LPR system.

Recently, with the advent of stereoscopic 3D TV, the activation of 3D stereoscopic content is expected. Research on 3D auto stereoscopic display has been carried out to relieve discomfort of 3D stereoscopic display. In this research, it is necessary to generate the elemental image from a lens array. As the number of lens in a lens array is increased, it takes a lot of time to generate the elemental image, and it will take more time for a large volume data. In order to improve the problem, in this paper, we propose a method to generate the elemental image by using OpenCL based on CUDA. We perform our proposed method on PC environment with one of Tesla C1060, Geforce 9800GT and Quadro FX 3800 graphics cards. Experimental results show that the proposed method can obtain almost 20 times better performance than recent research result.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.3.018
In a manufacturing process of metal coins, surface defects of coins are manually detected. This paper describes an new method for detecting surface defects of metal coins on a moving conveyor belt using image processing. This method consists of multiple procedures: segmentation of a coin from the background, alignment of the coin to the model, projection of the aligned coin to the best eigen image space, and detection of defects by comparison of the projection error with an adaptive threshold. In these procedures, the alignement and the projection are newly developed in this paper for the detection of coin surface defects. For alignment, we use the histogram of the segmented coin, which converts two-dimensional image alignment to one-dimensional alignment. The projection reduces the intensity variation of the coin image caused by illumination and coin rotation change. For projection, we build multiple eigen image spaces and choose the best eigen space using estimated coin direction. Since each eigen space consists of a small number of eigen image vectors, we can implement the projection in real- time.

In these days, internet environment are very quickly development as well on-line service have been using a online for the mission critical business around the world. As the amount of information to be processed by computers has recently been increased there has been cluster computing systems developed by connecting workstations server using high speed networks for high availability. but cluster computing technology are limited for a lot of IT resources. So, grid computing is an expanded technology of distributed computing technology to use low-cost and high-performance computing power in various fields. Although the purpose of Grid computing focuses on large-scale resource sharing, innovative applications, and in some case, high-performance orientation, it has been used as conventional distributed computing environment like clustered computer until now because grid middleware does not have common sharable information system. In order to use grid computing environment efficiently which consists of various grid middleware, it is necessary to have application-independent information system which can share information description and services, and expand them easily. This paper proposed new database architecture and load balancing for high availability through Grid technology.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.3.048
In this paper, we analyze the input-output characteristics of fuzzy inference systems according to the division of entire input spaces and the fuzzy reasoning methods to identify the fuzzy model for nonlinear process. And fuzzy model is expressed by identifying the structure and parameters of the system by means of input variables, fuzzy partition of input spaces, and consequence polynomial functions. In the premise part of the rules Min-Max method using the minimum and maximum values of input data set and C-Means clustering algorithm forming input data into the hard clusters are used for identification of fuzzy model and membership function is used as a series of triangular membership function. In the consequence part of the rules fuzzy reasoning is conducted by two types of inferences. The identification of the consequence parameters, namely polynomial coefficients, of the rules are carried out by the standard least square method. And lastly, we use gas furnace process which is widely used in nonlinear process and we evaluate the performance for this nonlinear process.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 3, 2011, Pages 73~83
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.3.073
The question answering system shows the answers that are input by other users for user's question. In spite of many researches to try to enhance the satisfaction level of answers for user question, there is a essential limitation. So, the question answering system provides users with the method of recommendation of another questions that can satisfy user's intention with high probability as an auxiliary function. The method using the fuzzy relational product operator was proposed for recommending the questions that can includes largely the contents of the user's question. The fuzzy relational product operator is composed of the Kleene-Dienes operator to measure the implication degree by contents between two questions. However, Kleene-Dienes operator is not fit to be the right operator for finding a question answers pair that semantically includes a user question, because it was not designed for the purpose of finding the degree of semantic inclusion between two documents. We present a novel fuzzy implication operator that is designed for the purpose of finding question answer pairs by considering implication relation. The new operator calculates a degree that the question semantically implies the other question. We show the experimental results that the probability that users are satisfied with the searched results is increased when the proposed operator is used for recommending of question answering system.

As the integrated and large-scale information is extended due to an advanced information system, a possibility of leaking out privacy increases as the time passes by. As a result, the necessity of using a privacy impact assessment (PIA) is emphasized because it can analyze and minimize the element of invasion of privacy. However, an essential audit for personal information protection is not fulfilled because most of the information system audit supervises over physical, managerial, and technical security items of system architecture area so that general items are the only things being checked. Consequently, this paper proposes that in order to minimize the invasion of personal information, the privacy impact assessment should be done. It also presents a procedure and method of personal information protection audit according to the result of the assessment. After applying the suggested method to two projects, it was confirmed that the improvements for protecting personal information were drawn from this paper.

One of the important fields for heuristic algorithm is how to balance between Intensification and Diversification. In this paper, we deal with the performance improvement techniques through balance the intensification and diversification in Ant Colony System(ACS) which is one of Ant Colony Optimization(ACO). In this paper, we propose the hybrid searching method between intensification strategy and diversification strategy. First, the length of the global optimal path does not improved within the limited iterations, we evaluates this state that fall into the local optimum and selects the next node using changed parameters in the state transition rule. And then we consider the overlapping edge of the global best path of the previous and the current, and, to enhance the pheromone for the overlapping edges increases the probability that the optimal path is configured. Finally, the performance of Best and Average-Best of proposed algorithm outperforms ACS-3-opt, ACS-Subpath, ACS-Iter and ACS-Global-Ovelap algorithms.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 3, 2011, Pages 147~156
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.3.147
Double meaning inherent in the film is interpreted in the same context as it's called ambiguity in the literature. Ambiguity means that one word or one sentence can be interpreted in two or more meanings. In the movie, one behavior of a character, a prop or a costume with two or more meanings faces the audience. A famous French direct Francois Ozon said "The director has always made movie contrary to his/her latest movie." This means that the film should seek to reform and it's his philosophy about the movie. Actually, it's the film's basis that a movie breaks the taboo. The film has always challenged taboos and led the progressivism. Taboos of western films are more intense than our country's moral and ethical level. Their taboos are to deny the sacred and legitimacy of Christianity. Particularly, as many people talk about the film to deny the divinity of Jesus Christ, it's sufficient to elicit an argument pro and con. This study is to choose the movie "Perfume"of director Tom Tykwer as a text, examine the highly elaborate and strategical double meaning in the movie and analyze the western taboos to deceive the audience skillfully.

Gesture is one of the means for non-linguistic communication which can be expressed by human characters in animations. High drawing ability and profound knowledge about gestures are both required for animators to achieve efficient gesture expressions. However, diversified profound techniques are needed to master this knowledge which makes it very difficult for common animation drawers. In this paper, characteristics for each gesture are analyzed based on Laban Movement Analysis and gesture classification by making gesture packets. This research is of notable significance in providing animators with high efficient gesture expression techniques and developing automatic gesture-generating system.
Research on the Cannibal Expression of Invisible Horror Elements in Films
Lee, Timothy Yoon-Suk ; Jin, Ju-Hyun ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 3, 2011, Pages 190~200
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.3.190
Different from visible horror elements that confront the characters directly and do physical harms, invisible horror elements are expressed through suggestion and imagination and their realities are not disclosed. For the disclosure of the realities of invisible horror elements, they are expressed through the overturned relation between the subject and victim of horror as in 'The Others' or through body snatching as in 'The Happening' and 'Paranormal Activity'. The overturn of relation and body snatching are connected to cannibalism in that the former causes a sudden change of personality and the latter takes the body of others. Cannibalism and the change of personality belong to the formalization and illogic of lower order resulting from cannibalism. The meaning of invisible horror elements in films seems to be contradictory to the original meaning of cannibalism, which is entering the sphere of utopian freedom, but considering that the reversed role resolves conflicts and tensions from terror and gives relief from fear, the meaning may be consistent with the spirit of cannibalism, namely, entering 'the sphere of freedom. In this study, the author attempted to analyze how the expression and plot of films showing invisible horror elements are related with cannibalism.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.3.201
Discussion on restoration of Yi Sun-sin's Geobukseon used in sea battles of Imjin War continues. This is because no historical records which we can understand external and internal structure of Geobukseon used in Imjin War do not remain until now. The Geobukseon currently restored based on pictures of woodprint of Jella-jwasuyeong and Tongjaeyeong Geobukseon in Yi-chungmugong Jeonseo published by king's command in the 19th year (1795) of King Jeongjo, but two Geobukseons were built 203 years after Imjin war and not the same as that of Imjin War. Geobukseon that was built by Yi Sun-sin in Imjin War and restored now has many problems in terms of its structure and shape since they do not accord with the records of the literature at that time. Yi Deok-hong's Picture of Hexangonal Ship, drawing Geobukseon in 1593 for the first time was not in it in the study of Geobukseon, but it agrees with Imjin War in terms of the time and in analysis of the structure through picture interpretation and the relationship between Panokseon, Jella-jwasuyeong, and Tongjaeyeong Geobukseon, the center of the upper part of the roof cover is flat, and iron spikes are stuck in the front, back, left and right. The structure and shapes of Geobukseon in the records at the time of Imjin War.

This study examines the effects of spasticity, equilibrium and gait ability at lower extremity on lumbar stabilization exercise(LSE) with Swiss ball. This experiment was conducted to compare BBS, FRT, MAS and TUG by Swiss ball LSE with 34 stroke patients. equilibrium by BBS or FRT, spasticity by MAS and gait ability by TUG were measured after a 8-week traditional exercise physical therapy(17 subject of stroke patient) and a Swiss ball LSE(17 subject of stroke patient). These result lead us to the conclusion that BBS & FRT were statistically increased and MAS and TUG were decreased on Swiss ball LSE group. there were statistically differential effect between each group on FRT and MAS. These results suggest that Swiss ball LSE has the capability to improve spasticity, equilibrium and gait ability at lower extremity. Consequently, Swiss ball LSE would be lead to restoration of muscle spasticity, equilibrium and gait ability on stroke patients.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.3.271
Heart Rate Variability (HRV) analysis is a convenient tool to assess Myocardial Ischemia (MI). The analysis methods of HRV can be divided into time domain and frequency domain analysis. This paper uses wavelet transform as frequency domain analysis in contrast to time domain analysis in short term HRV analysis. ST-T and normal episodes are collected from the European ST-T database and the MIT-BIH Normal Sinus Rhythm database, respectively. An episode can be divided into several segments, each of which is formed by 32 successive RR intervals. Eighteen HRV features are extracted from each segment by the time and frequency domain analysis. To diagnose MI, the Neural Network with Weighted Fuzzy Membership functions (NEWFM) is used with the extracted 18 features. The results show that the average accuracy from time and frequency domain features is 75.29% and 80.93%, respectively.

In this study, for examining an effect of lower limbs' muscle activity on balance capability when applying sprinter pattern among the PNF, the experiment was conducted as followed. Under the object of 24 people diagnosed by hemiplegia, they were divided into control group and experimental group and the experiment was conducted on the experimental group, three times per a week for six weeks. Experimental group received Sprinter pattern of combined PNF upper extremity and lower extremity pattern. For the lower limbs' muscle activity, effective values of Vastus medialis laterails, medial lateral hamstrings, lateral gastrocnemius' action potential were analyzed. The balance ability tests was conducted with FICSIT-4, FSST and MTD-Balance system. For the significance test of control group and experimental group for measuring time by exercise application method, two-way repeated measure ANOVA was conducted and for the significance test among the groups by each measuring time, independent t-test was conducted. Also, for examining the correlation among the measuring item, pearson correlation was used for the analysis. As the result, the application of sprinter pattern increased muscle activity of lower limbs in paretic side and improve static and dynamic balance ability effectively. Therefore, it will be necessary to develop new intervention by combining active application of the therapeutic intervention program for lower limbs' effective muscle mobilizing in paretic side with various exercising patterns.

The material of the dental prosthesis was required bio-compatibility for biological, chemical, and physical stabilities. This study was conducted the stability evaluation of mechanical, biological characteristics through comparing Co-Cr alloy(SC group), Ti alloy(ST group) made by the selective laser melting method with Co-Cr alloy(CC group), Ni-Cr alloy(CN group) made by the casting method. Modulus of elasticity for mechanical characteristic evaluation was measured by the tensile test. And we conducted the release material analysis using lactic acid-NaCl solution for the evaluation of biological stability and were observed cytotoxicity through the content of this release medium. Taking these results into account, the Co-Cr alloy made by the selective laser melting method was observed modulus of elasticity higher than he Co-Cr alloy made by the casting method. And the Co-Cr alloy made by the selective laser melting method had more superior biological stability than the other groups as the result of cytotoxicity evaluation through the release material analysis. By this results, we think that alloys made by the selective laser melting method can be applied as materials for making the dental prosthesis.

Research on elderly suicide has increased since 2000. It indicates that elderly suicide is receiving a great attention as a part of elderly problems, and policy efforts are needed. However, most of existing research on elderly suicide focused on factors of elderly suicide. Therefore discussion about suicidal prevention measures is staying on general and suggestive level. As a result, this study is trying to seek effective prevention strategies of elderly suicide through systematic analysis of suicidal factors and sporadic policy proposals presented in existing research. To achieve this, the relevant research papers among academic journals registered with Korea Research Foundation are analyzed. According to the results, while the ordinary elderly tended to require macro level of intervention, the potential-risky elderly were inclined to need all of micro and moderate level of prevention efforts. Above all, secondary prevention must be more emphasized in moderate level. In the future direction of research, based on prevention strategies as stated above, it is recommended to entail discussion of what kind of a specific program and policy should be invented and how it should be operated.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.3.460
Kameun temple was constructed in A.D. 682 after 46 year after Chumsungdae was constructed. This paper discusses the scientific implication of Taegeuk stone rods of Kameun temple site through the geometric analysis of their engraved figures. So we can estimate that the west Taegeuk of Kameun temple site has 2 circles comparing the path of the moon with that of the sun leading to the asymmetry in its emblem(Taegeuk) and the east Taegeuk of Kameun temple site has 1 circle representing the path of the sun. The Taegeuks along with around 30 equilateral triangles representing the north latitude
give the explicit information of period of the orbit of the moon and the sun. These mathematical methods can explain some relics structure of antiquity with a few historical expounds.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 3, 2011, Pages 467~476
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.3.467
Compound noun phrase (CNP) is important factor for semantic information process because the meaning of the CNP is more disambiguous than that of single word. However, the CNP can be expressed in various types even though it expresses same meaning. It is called syntactic diversity. It makes information system difficult to grasp sense identity. In order to resolve the syntactic diversity in this research, we propose an indexing method for compound noun phrase. The main purpose is to make identical index term for various types of CNPs which has same meaning. To do so, the research follows next steps. For the first, we make rule template and utilize the template to extract CNPs from set of domestic research papers. In general, the CNP has a unique meaning. Considering the characteristic, we suggest synthesis rules of index terms and apply the rule to CNPs extracted in previous step. For the objective performance evaluation of the research, a test set, HANTEC 2.0, was utilized and the result was compared to baseline model. Through the experiment and the evaluation, we have confirmed that the indexing method suggested in this paper could positively affect retrieval precision and improve performance of the information retrieval.

First of all, students classified by gender, school year, eyesight, and wearing glasses along demographic characters took part in a poll, and The questionnaire included questions about computer time, factors of weakening eyesight, and purpose of computer use. The finding in this analysis composed of a cross-tabulations between annual eyesight change and the factors to change their eyesight is that 63.6 % of 165 students participated in this survey weakened their eyesight within a year. To show a correlation between computer usage duration and worsening eyesight in this paper, regression analysis indicated weakened vision by computer usage duration per day and week instead of a year. In addition, according to the analysis between computer usage duration and weakened vision for the people who wear glasses or not trough Independent-Samples T test, weakened vision was shown in computer usage duration per day and week, but not shown in the duration by the year. Therefore, weakening vision was also worse for the people who didn't wear glasses than the others. This study indicated 24..5% of teenagers had poor eyesight by using their computer. According to the frequency analysis on purposes of computer usage, the biggest purpose accounting for 36.4% of the total was the computer usage as a game consol, and the computer as a learning tool was the next biggest purpose at 32.1%. This paper showed the correlation between computer usage time and a factor of weakened eyesight through an analysis of the factor. Therefore, schoolchildren's parents should be more interested in their computer usage.
