Fast Motion Estimation Method Based on Motion Vector Differences
Kang, Hyun-Soo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 9~14
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.009
This paper presents a new fast motion estimation method where search ranges are determined by the probabilities of motion vector differences (MVDs), which is an adaptive/dynamic search range (ASR) method. The MVDs` distribution is investigated and its parameter is estimated by the maximum likelihood estimator. With the estimated distribution, we show that the search ranges can be efficiently restricted by a prefixed probability for MVDs. Experimental results showed that the performance of the proposed method is very similar to that of the full search algorithm in PSNR but it enables significant reduction in the computational complexity. In addition, they revealed that the proposed method determine the search ranges much more efficiently than the conventional ASR methods.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.015
Recently various anatomic researches by using serially sectioned images in VK(Visible Korean) project are in progress. In that sense, it is very important and necessary to represent images which keep information of the original anatomic images. In this regard, there are some studies to get rid of slice patterns in coronal and sagittal images. However, according to the rapid spatial frequency changes, the ringing effect occurred in common. In addition, because of merge with the original images which have splice patterns, those patterns appeared again. Therefore, in this study we found effective color space to apply to FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) and notch filter in getting rid of the slice patterns. To verify this, we used RGB, LAB, CMYK, HSV and HSL color space. Secondly we got rid of and alleviated the ringing effect by improving notch filter. To verify this, we compared proposed method with previous study on the basis of original images by visual method and objective values. These result images are expected to contribute to anatomy research in relation to VK project.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 32~40
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.032
The tracking and analysis of cell activities in time-lapse sequences plays an important role in understanding complex biological processes such as the spread of the tumor, an invasion of the virus, the wound recovery and the cell division. For automatic tracking of cells, the tasks such as the cell detection at each frame, the investigation of the correspondence between cells in previous and current frames, the identification of the cell division and the recognition of new cells must be performed. This paper proposes an automatic cell tracking algorithm. In the first frame, the marker of each cell is extracted using the feature vector obtained by the analysis of cellular regions, and then the watershed algorithm is applied using the extracted markers to produce the cell segmentation. In subsequent frames, the segmentation results of the previous frame are incorporated in the segmentation process for the current frame. A combined criterion of geometric and intensity property of each cell region is used for the proper association between previous and current cells to obtain correct cell tracking. Simulation results show that the proposed method improves the tracking performance compared to the tracking method in Cellprofiler (the software package for automatic analysis of bioimages).

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.041
Recently, the infrastructure of stereoscopy is growing fast. Though, the stereoscopy producing capacity is insufficient to meet the demand of the market. Because, at the moment most people who produce the stereoscopy are skilled for the two-dimensional images. So the characteristics of the human stereopsis and stereoscopic cameras are not well considered, it occurs many problems to the viewer. According to this, we studied about the optical axis distance adjustment of stereoscopic camera considering size perception in human stereopsis. First, we measured the area of the object in the image which depends on the optical axis distance. Second, based on the output of first experiment, we conducted a survey and figured out that if we keep the optical axis distance between 3.9cm to 130cm, it wouldn`t occur any size perception and will be possible to produce high quality stereoscopy.

In recent years, health management services have been increased according to the increase in interests on health and the development of information technology (IT) based on increases in advanced ages and chronic disease patients. Thus, it requires the monitoring of health conditions and the specialized healthcare services not only in a hospital but also their own home. This study provides the specific notification services related to the context information based on users` bio signal data and the notification services of specific patients and attempts to develop a hypertension monitoring system and a notification service system according to indexes. Because this system considers the context of users by differing it from the conventional monitoring services, it makes possible to obtain more exact measurement values. In addition, it is able to reduce certain health risks through managing specific patients and based on living indexes. Also, it can provide more customized services to users due to the exact and finely classified services.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 67~74
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.067
Collaborative recommendation is one of the most widely used methods of automated product recommendation in e-Commerce. For analyzing the customer`s preference, traditional explicit ratings are less desirable than implicit ratings because it may impose an additional burden to the customers of e-commerce companies which deals with a number of products. Cardinal scales generally used for representing the preference intensity also ineffective owing to its increasing estimation errors. In this paper, we propose a new way of constructing the ordinal scale-based customer profile for collaborative recommendation. A Web usage mining technique and lexicographic consensus are employed. An experiment shows that the proposed method performs better than existing CF methodologies.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.075
Aspect-oriented programming is the paradigm which extracts crosscutting concern from a system and solves scattering of a function and confusion of a code through software modularization. Existing aspect developing method has a difficult to extract a target area, so it is not easy to apply aspect mining. In an aspect minning, it is necessary a technique that convert existing program refactoring elements to crosscutting area. In the paper, it is suggested an aspect mining technique for extracting crosscutting concern in a system. Using abstract syntax structure specification, extract functional duplicated relation elements. Through Apriori algorithm, it is possible to create a duplicated syntax tree and automatic creation and optimization of a duplicated source module, target of crosscutting area. As a result of applying module of Berkeley Yacc(berbose.c) to mining process, it is confirmed that the length and volume of program has been decreased of 9.47% compared with original module, and it has been decreased of 4.92% in length and 5.11% in volume compared with CCFinder.

Song, In-Hwan ; Han, Chan-Hee ; Lee, Si-Woong ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 84~92
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.084
The automated segmentation technique of cell region in Bio Images helps biologists understand complex functions of cells. It is mightly important in that it can process the analysis of cells automatically which has been done manually before. The conventional methods for segmentation of cell and nuclei from multi-channel images consist of two steps. In the first step nuclei are extracted from DNA channel, and used as initial contour for the second step. In the second step cytoplasm are segmented from Actin channel by using Active Contour model based on intensity. However, conventional studies have some limitation that they let the cell segmentation performance fall by not considering inhomogeneous intensity problem in cell images. Therefore, the paper consider correlation between DNA and Actin channel, and then proposes the preprocessing algorithm by which the brightness of cell inside in Actin channel can be compensated homogeneously by using DNA channel information. Experiment result show that the proposed preprocessing method improves the cell segmentation performance compared to the conventional method.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 125~137
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.125
Recently the research on the system using images taken from camera phones as input is actively conducted. This paper proposed a system that shows wine pictures which are similar to the input wine label in order. For the calculation of the similarity of images, the representative color of each cell of the image, the recognized text color, background color and distribution of feature points are used as the features. In order to calculate the difference of the colors, RGB is converted into CIE-Lab and the feature points are extracted by using Harris Corner Detection Algorithm. The weights of representative color of each cell of image, text color and background color are applied. The image similarity is calculated by normalizing the difference of color similarity and distribution of feature points. After calculating the similarity between the input image and the images in the database, the images in Database are shown in the descent order of the similarity so that the effort of users to search for similar wine labels again from the searched result is reduced.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 138~147
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.138
While most Korean speech databases are developed for adults` speech, not for children`s speech, there are various children`s speech databases based on other languages. Because there are wide differences between children`s and adults` speech in acoustic and linguistic characteristics, the children`s speech database needs to be developed. In this paper, to find the differences between them in Korean, we built speech recognizers using HMM and tested them according to gender, age, and the presence of VTLN(Vocal Tract Length Normalization). This paper shows the speech recognizer made by children`s speech has a much higher recognition rate than that made by adults` speech and using VTLN helps to improve the recognition rate in Korean.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 205~215
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.205
Films are sensitive to ultraviolet rays and in contrast, digital camera sensors are extremely sensitive to infrared rays due to the differences in spectral characteristics. As a result, all digital cameras that use CCD or CMOS are equipped with IR Cut-Off Filter on the overall sensor. Complete block out of infrared rays is ideal, but the actual experiment results showed that infrared rays were not being blocked out completely. Infrared permeability was also different for each camera. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of the minute quantities of infrared rays, which get transmitted due to mechanical properties of IR Cut-Off Filters that are installed on digital cameras, on digital picture images. The results obtained by carrying out a comparative analysis of a UV Filter (infrared transmitting state) and a UV-IR Filter (infrared blocked out state) are as follows. It was confirmed that the minute quantities of infrared rays do affect dynamic range and resolution to some extent, despite the little or no difference in noise and color reproduction.

Song, Jeong-Eun ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 216~223
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.216
This study aims to historically and academically shed new light on Jamu(字舞) to which there is little reference now on the basis of reference of neighboring country (China), to discover traditional unique contents by considering constituting principles, and to use these data to inherit and develop Jamu as a stage performance which is suited for the present age. The result of this study shows as follows. The first, Seongsumu was made up of the dances making 16 letters-"Seongchocheongo(聖超千古), Dotaebaekwang(道泰百王), Hwangjemannyoun(皇帝萬年), Bojomichang" - by 140 dancers. Made letters were intended to face audiences and this is similar to group gymnastics of today in the aspect and form stakes. The second, it is thought that Youngseongsomu the dance making Cheonhataepyeong(天下太平) and recorded in "Youngseongsomubo" of China is related to `Wangmodaegamu(王母隊歌舞)` the dance making Cheonhataepyeong(天下太平) during the Moonjing rule and recorded a little in The History of Goryeo, 25 volumes (高麗史 卷25). With this study as a momentum, continuous study is needed on Korean traditional dance inherited barely today in order to develop new various contents of Korean traditional arts which are being forgotten by studying and researching related references in neighboring countries such as China and Japan.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.260
The aim of this research was to examine whether the sensory integration video modeling intervention would be beneficial to the children with intellectual disabilitiy. Four children with intellectual disabilitiy participated and the A-B-A design was utilized in this study. In the intervention phase, each individual watched his/her own 8 minutes long previously recorded video which was the independent variable in this study. The dependent variables were (1) the self-initiation and task performance of the four sensory integration activities, (2) performance time of Grooved Pegboard. During the intervention period, each individual participated in the occupational therapy session twice a week. The result showed that sensory integration video modeling increased self-initiation and task performance of the participants. Self-initiation and the task performance scores of the participants were maintained even after the intervention period. When Grooved Pegboard was administered, the performance time decreased. The findings indicated that sensory integration video modeling may be an effective intervention for improving self-initiation and task performance and reducing inattentiveness in children with intellectual disabilitiy. In the future research, it is suggested that the level of cognition and sensory processing capabilities of the participants be considered to validate the effectiveness of sensory integration video modeling.

But, outpatient expenditures weren`t different, cancer patients in medical aid program more visited medical institutions and hospitalized long term periods than in national health insurance. Therefore, it is too early to conclude that moral hazard is in health utilizations of medical aid program, because cancer patients in medical aid program many use in benefits for many nonbenefit burdens.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 291~301
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.291
This research describes the comparison broker`s role and its effectiveness measurement framework of comparison shopping. We verified seller-led comparison challenge method provide comparison information of products to buyers more efficiently. Buyer`s satisfaction of purchase (S) can be defined as an interactive function between seller`s competitiveness vector (P) of products that supplied to the market, and buyer`s informed level vector (B) of products that is known from a lot of sources. Then the buyer`s informed level can be changed through the information analysis among products by transformation process using comparison matrix (C). So the role of comparison shopping is to construct a comparison matrix and to serve it to the buyers, and to change the buyer`s informed level. The changed informed level influences a buyer`s satisfaction, that improved satisfaction of purchase is defined as the effectiveness of comparison shopping. As a perfect construction and usage of comparison matrix is impossible, a more efficient method for improving the comparison effectiveness is the comparison challenge. This research shows that comparison shopping makes 9.32% and comparison challenge makes 19.11% enhancement of comparison effectiveness through television market data experiments.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 384~392
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.384
Recruitment and selection are separate but mutually reinforcing processes. The goal of recruitment is to attract the largest number of applicants possible to apply to the agency, and selection is the process of weeding out unqualified candidates and identifying qualified candidates. In this context, the recruitment and selection system of police officials is an important issue because it affects their future performance as police officers on the job, especially their policing skills, perception of society, occupational ethics. This study suggested the characteristics of U. S. recruitment and selection system of police officials. In the U. S, each police agency sets up its own recruitment and selection standards and procedures. However, recruitment and selection process follows a certain sequence : receiving application, psychological examination, background check, polygraph test, drug screening, interview, physical agility, and medical test. Special characteristic of American police system regarding recruitment and selection is that many law enforcement agencies use a polygraph test to ensure the integrity of the candidates. Another interesting screening process is a drug test because many Americans abuse illegal drugs. A candidate officer must submit urine or a hair sample for screening test. Police human resources specialists should continually identify the most innovative tests and approaches recruit and select police officers. Recruitment and selection strategies should increasingly attract and retain those officers who have the attributes to work in a community-oriented policing environment.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.403
This study aims at proposing clear direction of tourism policy through analyzing the correlation between tourism resource, tourism system and activation of regional economic. A total of 283 samples were ultimately collected in survey of 300 researchers from the national and public institutes in provinces Chungchong-do and Kyungsang-do in July 2010 alone. SPSS 15.0 and AMOS 6.0 were used to test the model. Analysis showed that the more regional tourism resources have more significant effect on tourism system and tourist-attracting strategy, and that tourism system exerts influence on tourist-attracting strategy. So it was proved that the tourism policy effects meaningfully on vitalization of regional economic, and it was confirmed that the tourism system is more effective on the energization of regional economic than the tourist-attracting strategy. But the hypothesis has been rejected unexpectedly that tourist attractions have consequences for the activation of regional economic. It establishes the fact that it is useless for regional economy regardless of abundant regional tourism resources, if the tourism policy is not concretely in force. Therefore, Korean government must intercept overissue and overlapping investments on tourism development by the local government and induce qualitative growth of tourism sector through upgrading of development guidelines and the criteria for selecting tourism special zone, regional festival and cultural assets, and its continuous assessment and management. And it is desirable to enforce the connected cooperation projects between local governments and the 5+2 great-sphere economic blocs on government-level.

Chun, Min-Ho ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 11, issue 5, 2011, Pages 424~432
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.424
Today`s wide-spread Internet technology allowed consumers to access much Word-of-Mouth information through an online board. As communication and exchanging information between travelers becomes easier and faster, e-WOM (Electronic Word-of-Mouth) is recognized as one of the most influencing communication methods in today`s society. This new trend implies a significant impact to travel industry. This study focuses on interaction between Credibility on e-WOM, brand attitude, WOM acceptance, WOM activity and purchasing intention of travel product. The result of this study suggests: (1) Credibility in e-WOM provides positive effect in brand attitude, (2) Brand Attitude gives positive effect on WOM acceptance, WOM activity and purchasing intention of travel product, (3) WOM acceptance gives positive effect on WOM activity, but it is not effective on purchasing intention of travel product. Regarding e-WOM management of travel agencies through its website or online community, authors would like to argue that travel agencies need to build positive brand attitude based on Credibility in brand, which would lead consumers to positively acknowledge its brand and spread words out to other consumers.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.466
The purpose of this study is to analyze the distribution of the building area and find the characteristics of development density where the areas to perform special functions as residential, commercial, and business area in Seoul. As a result of classification of the regions with the component ratio of building area ratio by types, the greater part of Seoul is residential areas and only a small part of Seoul have business function. Contrary to the Kang-Nam business districts, the central business districts have few or no houses. It is concerned that the redevelopment projects, such as New-Town, make Seoul more high- density. The industrial area lost the attractiveness as a resident in spite of businesses or infrastructures. So the industrial area will be the best place for reduce journey-to-work distance if improve housing conditions. As well as management of density, management of use is also required for effective landuse and green-growth city.

Most social networks have power-law distribution that is one of distinct properties in scale-free network. In contrast to social network character, people networks of the Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla show dissemination network that is a narrow and deep-reaching style of information transmission. However, people network of three kingdoms that is integrated each national people reveals scale-free and hierarchical properties. Pattern of territory expansion and abridgment in Silla is distinct from those in Goguryeo and Baekje, indicating that the distinct pattern reflects a power for unification. Several patterns in national management and national development of the three kingdoms are also analyzed based on network. Our results provide new insight that is analyzed by network-based approaches but is not analyzed by historial approaches in history of three kingdoms.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2011.11.5.481
Generally speaking, a document is a mutual promise between two parties and functions as a legally-binding trust for a transaction. A document should be produced on a mutual agreement basis, and its credibility shall be attained if the transparency of a document production is ensured. Therefore, sequence analysis of the procedures in a document production is very important for appraisal of a document. The purpose of this research is to distinguish sequence association between the erased carbon ingredients of a pencil and the ingredients left in a ball-point pen and thus suggest a method that determines whether mutual agreement was applied or not in signing an insurance policy. This method analyzes if the carbon ingredients of a pencil are left in the bottom section of a ball-point pen through infrared photography. If the carbon ingredients of a pencil are left in the bottom section of a pen, the pen shall absorb infrared rays and mark a dense concentration. This method applies a relatively simple infrared photography system and therefore shall be beneficial to a personal appraisal store.
