Han, Chan-Hee ; Choi, Hae-Chul ; Lee, Si-Woong ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 12, 2012, Pages 1~13
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.001
3D video is regarded as the next generation contents in numerous applications. The 2D-to-3D video conversion technologies are strongly required to resolve a lack of 3D videos during the period of transition to the full ripe 3D video era. In 2D-to-3D conversion methods, after the depth image of each scene in 2D video is estimated, stereoscopic video is synthesized using DIBR (Depth Image Based Rendering) technologies. This paper proposes a novel depth fusion algorithm that integrates multiple depth cues contained in 2D video to generate stereoscopic video. For the proper depth fusion, it is checked whether some cues are reliable or not in current scene. Based on the result of the reliability tests, current scene is classified into one of 4 scene types and scene-adaptive depth fusion is applied to combine those reliable depth cues to generate the final depth information. Simulation results show that each depth cue is reasonably utilized according to scene types and final depth is generated by cues which can effectively represent the current scene.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.014
DVC (Distributed Video Coding) techniques need feedback channel for parity bit control to achieve the good RD performances, however, this causes the DVC system to have high decoding latency. In order to implement in real time environments and to accelerate commercializations, many research works have been focusing on the development of fast video decoding algorithm. As one of the real time implementations, this paper deals with a novel DVC scheme suitable for some application areas where source statistics such as motion information can be provided to the encoder side from the decoder side. That is, this paper propose a fast distributed video decoding scheme to improve the decoding speed by using the feedback of motion information derived in SI generation. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed method outperforms the conventional fast DVC decoding schemes.

Due to the development of wireless devices such as smart-phone and internet, a lot of linguistic resources actively are opened in each area of expertise. Also, various systems using semantic web technologies are developing for determining whether such information are useful or not. In order to build these systems, the processes of data collection and natural language processing are necessary. But, there is few systems to use of integrating software and data required those processes. In this paper, we propose the system, uLAMP, integrating software and data related to natural language processing. In terms of economics, the cost can be reduced by preventing duplicated implementation and data collection. On the other hand, data and software usability are increasing in terms of management aspects. In addition, for the evaluation of uLAMP usability and effectiveness, user survey was conducted. Through this evaluation, the advantages of the currentness of data and the ease of use are found.

Researchers and scientists spend huge amount of time in analyzing the previous studies and their results. In order to timely take the advantageous position, they usually analyze various resources such as paper, patents, and Web documents on recent research issues to preoccupy newly emerging technologies. However, it is difficult to select invest-worthy research fields out of huge corpus by using the traditional information search based on keywords and bibliographic information. In this paper, we propose a method for efficient creation, storage, and utilization of semantically relevant information among technologies, products and research agents extracted from `big data` by using text mining. In order to implement the proposed method, we designed an ontology that creates technological knowledge for semantic web environment based on the relationships extracted by text mining techniques. The ontology was utilized for InSciTe Adaptive, a R&D trends analysis and forecast service which supports the search for the relevant technological knowledge.

The traffic in research network for the new structure of the network and new service research has the various properties. From the perspective of a specific traffic point of view, transmission of traffic with different requirements using a single routing protocol is an obstacle to satisfy requirements. In this study, we classify the properties of the traffic into two types. We propose the way that we can get the overall optimization effect, the experiment proves it by providing independent multiple forwarding path by applying optimized algorithm by types. In order to distinguish each type of traffic we use the ports on the switch and in order to implement independent path we apply OpenFlow system. In other words, we present the measure that can be implemented to improve the satisfaction of the traffic by making multiple paths by OpenFlow controller according to the type of traffic and by enforcing in Forwarder.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.063
In medical image processing field, object recognition is usually processed based on region segmentation algorithm. Region segmentation in the computing field is carried out by computerized processing of various input information such as brightness, shape, and pattern analysis. If the information mentioned does not make sense, however, many limitations could occur with region segmentation during computer processing. Therefore, this paper suggests effective region segmentation method based on R2-map information within the magnetic resonance (MR) theory. In this study, the experiment had been conducted using images including the liver region and by setting up feature points of R2-map as seed points for 2D region growing and final boundary correction to enable region segmentation even when the border line was not clear. As a result, an average area difference of 7.5%, which was higher than the accuracy of conventional exist region segmentation algorithm, was obtained.

Mari, Nago ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 12, 2012, Pages 71~79
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.071
In Japan, the number of late night animations has increased from the 2000s. In 2010, it exceeded the number of other Japanese animations playing between 6:00 to 23:00 (pre-late night). People watching these late night animations were mostly adolescents or older. Late night animations involve various niche themes, however, the ranges of the main characters` actions of these stories were narrower and more limited compared to the pre-late night animations. The causes for these differences in the scales of the settings were found by comparing the late night and pre-late night animations. The most popular animations from these two time slots were used in the analysis. Firstly, the main characters` ways of approaching their goals were analyzed. Secondly, the settings and directions that the main characters used were analyzed. Lastly, the main characters` degree of interactions with other people was analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the main characters` goals from the late night animations were often found to be commonplace and they tended to achieve their goals by very realistic means. In addition to that, the stories of these main characters revolved around small and familiar communities. Thus, their connections with people were comparatively smaller than those of pre-late night animations and were based upon shared interests. In other words, the differences in the scales of the settings between the two types of animations resulted from the stories of the late night animations revolving mainly around reality, communities, and relationships within the communities.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 12, 2012, Pages 103~110
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.103
Various industrial sectors have formally turned to Green Development, practicing eco-design with the goal of saving the environment. Such trend can also be applied to jewelry design and production. Jewelry, which emerged with the birth of humankind, has been a contributing factor to environmental pollution and depletion of resources due to mass production and reckless consuming patterns of the 20th century. With the arrival of the World economic crises, however, the consumption of jewelry has dropped and now the industry desperately needs a boost for revival. In this paper, we propose a way to recycle waste materials and turn them into a new kind of jewelry. We introduce various junk materials that can be reused, and how to reuse them. The new type of jewelry we aim for is environment-friendly, low-cost, and unique as opposed to identical mass production of the past. The eco-design product will likely add new value to jewelry industry. The product targets sophisticated modern consumers with conscientious, environmentally aware consuming patterns. To fulfill the needs of these consumers, we propose methods of upcycling from junk to jewelry, by combining precious stones with waste materials.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.119
It is not an overstatement to say that the functions of the products change and the results determine the size and weight of the product. It took a long time to develop the small size everyday tools. One of the ways to shorten the development time was the emergence of vacuum moulds that decreased the design process significantly. In other words, the manufacturing of the product may be limited by the size and shape, but the replication of a simple structure is possible within a few hours. This study aims to review and suggest the design development through vacuum moulds as an area to realize the future additional values to the economic growth under the rapidly changing industry structures as well as securing the weaknesses of the industry structures through the productivity and competitiveness of the corporations.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 12, 2012, Pages 179~191
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.179
In 2003, the US Congress enacted the Code Adam Act of 2003. The Act was so-named in memory of six-year-old Adam Walsh, who was abducted from a Sears department store in Florida and was later found murdered in 1981. According to the Act, the designated authority for a public building must establish procedures for locating a child missing in a federal facility in the USA. In this context, the study basically aims to propose a legislative model for a missing children policy in Korean multi-use facilities, critically analyzing the US Code Adam Act. Unlike the Act, the proposed Korean bill requires all multi-use facilities beyond a certain size, including private buildings, to arrange a feasible missing child procedure on their own premises. The bill can impose an administrative fine on facilities which don`t have the procedure in place, and further can make the list of the facilities known to the public. In order to encourage voluntary participation from the private sector, the bill finally suggests the Voluntary Certification Scheme through which participating business can take advantage of the certification logo commercially.

A dental treatment room is always exposed to diverse kinds of pathogenic bacteria, and may be a mediating place of cross-infection given being contaminated the interior of a room through several routes in the form of patient`s secretion and aerosol. The main agent of preventing cross-infection is a dental hygienist in the dental treatment and the dental treatment room where are scattered about a risk of cross-infection. A dental hygienist needs to have right recognition on infection control before being active as a clinical expert. This infection-control recognition level is influenced from the clinical practice. Accordingly, to survey recognition of infection control, a self-administered questionnaire research was conducted targeting 314 students who are fixed the clinical practice as regular subject in the junior course out of curriculum for the Department of Dental Hygiene at some of 4-year universities. Data collection was performed from December 9, 2011 to February 22, 2012. Osteoporosis is increasing in Korea as it becomes an aging society with the rapid economic growth and the development of medical technology. Osteoporosis also develops due to chemo and radiation therapy of cancer which also increases owing to Westernized diet. Osteoporosis is caused by reduced bone density, has close relationship with the change of geometry of proximal femur, which is a factor of hip fracture risk. The purpose of this study was the analysis of the correlations of osteoporosis and the change of geometry of proximal femur, which was observed according to T-score variance. The 350 male and female patients are chosen from D hospital in Busan, who were classified by age, sex and T-score values (normal, osteopenia, and osteo porosis). The results show that the age and gender have significant difference in the incidence of osteoporosis; the disease classification according to T-score value has significant difference in the geometry of the proximal femur such as Cortical ratio calcar, Cortical ratio shaft, Hip/shaft Angle, Strength index, Section modulus, CSMI, and CSA, and is highly correlated with the incidence of osteoporosis. Therefore, the findings of this research is that the change of the geometry of the proximal femur could be used as an indicator in the diagnosis of osteoporosis, could enhance the accuracy of the diagnosis in the future, and could be used as a clinical predictive factors through the analysis of the correlations of T-score variance and the geometry changes of the proximal femur.

Delayed treatment of acute cardiovascular and cereb-directrovascular diseases is related to poor prognosis and sequelae. For rapid and adequate treatment, role of prehospital emergency dispatchers for adequate triage and selection of hospital is important. In several advanced countries, emergency dispatchers use standardized protocols for decision of rescuer resources or distribution of patients at each hospital. ut, there has not been developed standardized protocol for emergency dispatchers in Korea. We developed standardized protocol based on NHS-direct and CTAS system for triage of symptoms of chest pain and Stroke. Groups with standardized protocol and without protocol was compared to triage result at emergency department which patient visited. The accuracy of triage on chest pain was 70.0% in group A, 94.0% in group B(p<0.01). The accuracy of triage in stroke symptoms was 64.2% in group A, 84.6% in group B(p<0.01). Conclusion: In this study, the accuracy of telephone triage with the protocol was more accurate than without the protocol. But, more studies are needed to generalize the protocol in South korea.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.385
This study investigates whether earnings management behavior of chaebol firms differ from that of non-chaebol firms. The ownership structure of chaebol firms is characterized by the dominance of one largest shareholder and his family members who typically participate in the management of the firm directly or indirectly and influence most of the important management decision. This study adopts the random effect model and the hausman and talyor model, using a panel of 5092 firm-year over a period from 1991 to 2010 to control for potential heterogeneity and endogeneity that may cause sever bias. This study finds that there is no difference in accrual based earnings management level between chaebol firms and non-chaebol firms. However, chaebol firms appeared to engage less real earnings management that is known to negatively affect future earnings and share prices. The results are consistent when controlling for potential heterogeneity and endogeneity in the hausman and taylor model. The results may be of interest to various stakeholders, policy makers, standard setters and academic researchers.

Various studies on sentiment classification of documents have been performed. Recently, they have been applied to twitter sentiment classification. However, they did not show good performances because they did not consider the characteristics of tweets such as tweet structure, emoticons, spelling errors, and newly-coined words. In this paper, we perform experiments on various input features (emoticon polarity, retweet polarity, author polarity, and replacement words) which affect twitter sentiment classification model based on machine-learning techniques. In the experiments with a sentiment classification model based on a support vector machine, we found that the emoticon polarity features and the author polarity features can contribute to improve the performance of a twitter sentiment classification model. Then, we found that the retweet polarity features and the replacement words features do not affect the performance of a twitter sentiment classification model contrary to our expectations.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.544
Screen content refers to images or videos generated by various electronic devices such as computers or mobile phones, whereas natural content refers to images captured by cameras. Screen contents show different statistical characteristics from natural images, so the conventional video codecs which were developed mainly for the coding of natural videos cannot guarantee good coding performances for screen contents. Recently, researches on efficient SCC(Screen Content Coding) are being actively studied, and especially at ongoing JCT-VC(Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding) meeting for HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) standard, SCC issues are being discussed steadily. In this paper, we analyze the performances of high efficient coding tools in HM(HEVC Test Model) on SCC, and present an optimized SCC model based on the analysis results. We also present the characteristics of screen contents and the future research issues as well.

This study aimed to analyze preferences depending on consumption value in relation to fashion jewelry design, colors, and materials. For this, 156 female consumers participated in it as subjects, and for a research tool of consumption value, VALS (Values and Life Style) technique was employed to make an empirical analysis by dividing it into three types such as principle-oriented value, status-oriented value and behavior-oriented value. Research findings indicate that above all, there are differences in preferences depending on characteristics of fashion jewelry design depending on consumption value. It was found that there are differences in preferences depending on numbers of setting of fashion jewelry depending on consumption value, but it was found that there are no differences in preferences depending on jewelry materials. In addition, it was observed that for color characteristics of fashion jewelry, there are differences in preferences depending on consumption value. There are differences in preferences for fashion jewelry depending on consumption value, which indicates that preferences for products change depending on consumers` consumption value rather than use value. And it can be an explanation for this reason. Therefore, it is necessary to work out a more efficient strategy through a process of setting up a target according to consumption value.

In order to actualize the third dimension form, hologram is coming to attention because it has no restriction on viewing position and is capable of natural visual expression. Although hologram technology is the best method to embody 3D image without glasses, it is not commercialized due to several technological problems. Currently used hologram technology in concerts or exhibitions are images flashed on a 2-dimensional transparent screen by HD projectors which is similar to hologram technology, not truly same. In this research, we make 3D contents for Holographic projection and use these contents to present art that can interact with spectators. As a result of the exhibition, attendance showed satisfaction on inspection form, allowing spectators to move around the screen and view it both sides; moreover, they were enterprising to interact with the videos played according to their movements. Therefore, we are able to implement a sensible and spatio-temporal artwork along with interesting space production and represent a intimate and interactive space with the public.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 12, 2012, Pages 605~615
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.605
Dance studies inherently have a nature of convergence and integration. Meanwhile, dance studies have extended their realm by investigating dance phenomena from many perspectives which art theories cannot explain. However, the previous and current dance studies are inadequate to explain a confluence society which is characterized as techuim, Interaction, freedom and openness according to the digital revolution. Hence, a result of research trend in domestic dance studies, it is found that dance studies have been studied in four perspectives since the early 2000s: first, a triggering the various studiesa of the convergent and integrative dance; second, an attempt to the convergent and integrative program development research; third, the vitalization of the convergent research on dance digital contents; and fourth, a research on the convergent dance art phenomena. These researches have played an important role in boosting a change in the structure and realm expansion of dance studies that are interdisciplinary research enabling a holistic approach to the integration and convergence between scientific technique, skills of dance art and other studies. However, it should be acknowledged that one problem is the current research development plan or/and research program have very little feasibility and practicality except an interdisciplinary research on the dance digital contents. Therefore, it is suggested for the development of dance studies in the age of convergence as follows: first, a dance convergent study integrated in skills and theories of dance and science that would pave the way for an academic foundation leading to a new humanistic model in the age of convergent; and second, a need for a paradigm shift that theories should be deployed in the scene on a commercial scale in order to produce effectiveness of the interdisciplinary and integrative research on dance studies by turning into a behavioristic research phase. third, it needs to changeover from large scale of convergent performance into small scale of convergent performance based on original idea for accumulation of teachnique research and promotion of dance convergent performance.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 12, 2012, Pages 627~638
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.627
This study empirically examines the concept of dynamic capability to recombine the resources such as directors, writers, and actors in the TV drama industry which is one of the most knowledge-based and project-based organizations. Based on the extant literature, it is argued that an organization`s usage pattern of critical resources could partly reflect its dynamic capability. This study attempted to verify the hypothesis that Korean TV drama producers would utilize the same resources less repeatedly in the period with more uncertain environment(2003-2009) than the period with more stable and predictable environment(1994-2002). Empirical results partially support the hypothesis, verifying that there are different usage patterns in employing directors between the two periods but that is not the case in employing writers and actors. Such results imply that project-based organizations repeatedly use the same resources in order to pursue efficiency in stable environments whereas they tend to use a variety of different resources in order to adapt to uncertain environments.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.12.733
In recent, many consumers visit the online shopping malls or price comparison sites to collect the information on the product category that they are interested in. However, the volumes of the data provided by such web sites are often too enormous, and significant number of consumers have trouble in making purchase decision based on the plethora of products and sellers. In this context, modern online shopping agents need to process the retrieved information in more intelligent way before providing them to the users. This paper proposes a novel approach for identifying the main price ranges hidden in a single product category. To this end, the price of an item in the category is represented as a row vector and k-means clustering analysis is applied to the price vectors to produce the clusters that consists of the product items with similar price vectors. Then, the main price ranges of the product category can be identified from the result of clustering analysis. In general, the price is one of the most important factors in the consumers` purchase decision, and the identified main price ranges will be helpful for the online shoppers to find appropriate items effectively.

Many organizations release future emerging technologies information because it is very important to companies. However, unfortunately there are few organizations who assess the emerging technologies they thought a few years ago. We made a framework for assessing the brightness of future emerging technologies rapidly and cost-effectively. We came up with 2 new concepts for it. One is product potential and the other is consumption potential. Product potential is relative probability that emerging technology is implemented to real products. It is resulted from analyzing patents related with emerging technology. Consumption potential is relative probability that consumers buy the products. The number of appearances of emerging technology in the mass media is related to consumption potential. We compared the brightness between LED and LCD technologies with proposed evaluating framework, and came to know that LCD has more brightness over LED.
