Spatio-temporal Graph for Representing Historical Situations in Virtual Reality
Park, Jong-Hee ; Cho, Kyu-Myoung ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 8, 2012, Pages 1~12
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.08.001
We develop the Spatio-Temporal Graph to imbue the historical context to the situations in a virtual world, and an ontology to enable a structural description of their elements such as the objects, relationships, and activities. In the time dimension the graph models all the temporal phases of the future besides the past and present in a comprehensive manner, and all the spatial aspects in an intuitive but efficient fashion. The overall architecture composing the Physical Layer, Logical Layer and Conceptual Layer which are integrated according to their interrelations allows events occurring in their corresponding worlds to be simulated in historical context. The S-T Graph could be used both to simulate the situations in the virtual world and to realize the knowledge systems of the virtual inhabitants to be used in judging and evaluating those situations. By adding temporal changes to the multi-layered architecture of our virtual world, this model lays a foundation for maximizing the diversity of situations in the simulation of a virtual world.

Kim, Jin-Soo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 8, 2012, Pages 20~28
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.08.020
DVC(Distributed Video Coding) technique is a new paradigm, which is based on the Slepian-Wolf and Wyner-Ziv theorems. DVC offers not only flexible partitioning of the complexity between the encoder and decoder, but also robustness to channel errors due to intrinsic joint source-channel coding. Many conventional research works have been focused on the light video encoder and its rate-distortion performance improvement. However, in this paper, we propose a new DVC codec which is effectively applicable for error-prone environment. The proposed method adopts a quantiser without dead-zone and symmetric Gray code around zero value. Through computer simulations, the proposed method is evaluated by the bit errors position as well as the number of burst bit errors. Additionally, it is shown that the maximum and minimum transmission rate for the given application can be linearly determined by the number of bit errors.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 8, 2012, Pages 29~36
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.08.029
In CCPM Technique, as the buffer size calculation method, the Cut and Paste(C&P) method and the Root Square Error (RSE) method for all tasks carried out the same treatment, without considering the actual situation and characteristics of the task, the lack of reasonable judgment, is too simple and hasty. In this paper, taking into account the limitations of existing methods, a new method of buffer sizing method based on statistical analysis was introduced. It makes statistical analysis for the relationship between each worker and a variety of tasks, and use the information to predict the next task time. In order to verify the effectiveness of the new method, according to different task difficulty and the number of tasks set up the project. Use C&P, RSE method and new methods to predict the time of the project. Through Monte Carlo Simulation to simulate the project time, a comparison of three methods of performance. The results show that the new method can achieve the managers expect the probability of completion, and for those tasks can be completed ahead of schedule, the new method can save project time.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 8, 2012, Pages 37~46
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.08.037
In the existing data dissemination methods for mobile P2P networks, the search performance of content that matches the peer profile is very excellent. However, in the search for content that does not match the their profile, additional consideration about case that contents does not match the profile is needed because costs for the query processing will be incurred. To solve these problems, we propose a new data dissemination method for efficient contents search in mobile P2P networks. In the proposed method, peers determine whether they experienced communications by using a timestamp message and then perform data dissemination. We also propose a ranking algorithm to efficiently store dissemination data in a limited memory. The proposed ranking method can reduce query messages by considering the profile matches, the distribution range, and the connectivity to the data distribution peer.

Bok, Kyoung-Soo ; Lee, Hyun-Jung ; Park, Young-Hun ; Yoo, Jae-Soo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 8, 2012, Pages 47~58
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.08.047
In this paper, we propose a continuous k-nearest neighborhood query processing method for updating the query results in real-time over mobile peer-to-peer environments. The proposed method disseminates a monitoring region to efficiently monitor the k-nearest neighbor peers. The Monitoring Region is created to assure at least k peers as the result of the query within the time range using the vector of neighbor peers. In the propose method, the monitoring region is valid for a long time because it is calculated by the vector of neighbor peers of the query peer. Therefore, the proposed method decreases the cost of re-processing by monitoring region invalidation. In order to show the superiority of the proposed method, we compare it with the previous schemes through performance evaluation.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 8, 2012, Pages 59~68
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.08.059
The existing ship monitoring system currently in use has a limitation, which is that it can only identify a boat's location for finding a safe harbor or give an answer to a rescue signal. In addition to this, it is very difficult to add an expensive, more effective monitoring system to small boats because of their small infrastructure in comparison with large boats. Therefore, this study suggests that a new model could be required to better cater to the needs of small boats. The 'Smart Care System', based on location, is better able to monitor the boat and the crew of small boats in comparison with the existing ship monitoring system. Using biomedical data transmission equipment, it is able to survey and send biomedical data so that it can continuously monitor the crew's health. The boat has an intelligent interface device, which has the functions of GPS and attitude sensors, and a web based management system. We have conducted three experiments for the assessment of this system. The experiment of biological data transmission had a success rate of 98 percent, and the tests conducted for recognizing emergency situations also had a 98 percent success rate. In conclusion we confirmed the efficiency of this system.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.08.069
This paper proposes an efficient power consumption scheme using sleep mode in home gateway. The scheme by this paper classifies incoming real time packet and non-real time packet in home gateway and delay non-real time packet. Therefore, the home gateway can have longer sleep time because non-real time packet can get additional delay time by proposing mechanism using timer. We use non-preemptive two priority queueing model for performance analysis. As a results, we verify that power consumption of proposed scheme is reduced more than existing scheme by delay of non-real time traffic.

Avionics system are composed of multiple electronic device that performs important missions the number of electronic devices for the performance of aircraft has been gradually increasing. As a result, cost of development, maintenance and operating have increased. To solve this problem, technology paradigm of avionics has been shifting from federated avionics systems that manage to each system independently to IMA(Integrated Modular Avionics) systems. Unlike federated systems, fault tolerance becomes an essential technology in IMA systems. Because each aircraft features integrated in the an IMA system, a fault can jeopardize the entire system. In this paper, we define faults which can occur on the ARINC 653 based IMA system first, and design the ARINC 653 compliant HM(health Monitoring) system for the system can continue to operate be normal when occur a fault.

Film was invented by human's desire to copy the real world, starting in the late 19th century. Since the birth of cinema, It was given mission to replay of the real world. On the other hand, cinema was regarded as a fictitious art form. Although the invention of film brought about experience of replaying of the real world it has been reproduced reality with creative story. And it also has been represent reality with sense of reality. Cinema's way of reproduction implied conflicting concept of mimesis. Triple Mimesis of Paul Ricoeur was an idea expanded into an analytical concept from that simple concept of mimesis. The purpose of this study was to examine the prefiguration of shown behavior in Columbine High School massacre based on Triple Mimesis of Paul Ricoeur. It also was to examine a form of representation on cinema which is 'Elephant' and studied how the form of representation on Elephant could interpret by audience. It could be define the relationship between reality and reproduction through this esthetic study. This paper attempted to build the method communication between the originator and audience with a whole analytic process of time and story on the cinematic representation.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.08.157
At the recent 19th General Election, Korean papers waged a surrogate war for the parties they share ideology with. All the conventional practices remained the same - the horse race-like presentations, furthering of confrontations, disregarding policy issues, allocating larger space for commentaries and negative issues, and etc. On top of these, papers began to focus on generational conflicts and individuals at the center of widespread attention and controversies, as a new trend. Photo images are largely used in the commentaries and articles dealing with confrontational or controversial situations. Of course, while the visual images seem to reinforce the emotional appeal of the messages papers try to get across, the potential problems need be noticed that could rise when irrelevant images are used.

This study examined the concept-forming process of Design-Art and based on it, drew the significance of Design-Art. Design-Art is generated by the policy cultivating star artists and star designers so as to pioneer new art-market in 1990s in the foundation of anti-area formed by Postmodernism in 1960s. It started to be vitalized while designers were born as author. At the same time, because of the information's popularity by internet's propagation, users started to manufacture and propagate contents volunteerly. Meanwhile, designers accepted artistic value so as to guarantee independent position, so the area of Design-Art became more strengthened. Therefore, Design-Art means 'design as an art' and Design-Artist obtained general meaning, 'designer as an author'. In 2000s, it secured variety because of the acceptance of existing art galleries' Design-Art works and forming of new Design-Art market such as Design-Art fair, and vitalization of the market played its own roles with the movement to create new-concept of design in design ecology. Based on the contents, this paper analyzed Design-Art works by Design-Artists working actively in actual field and examined the possibility of future development of Design-Art.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 8, 2012, Pages 233~239
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.08.233
This study was performed to find a method to decrease the radiation exposure of patients when obtaining anteroposterior pelvic images maintaining the quality of the image by using the copper filter built in the DR equipment now being used in our hospital. We measured the level of radiation by changing the filters from none filter to 0.1mmCu, 0.2mmCu, and 0.3mmCu and detected the organ level of radiation by PCXMC program. As a result, high levels of radiation were detected in the bladders and testicles and the levels were decreased as the thickness of the filter was increased and the amount of decrease was the highest in 0.1mmCu. And we asked for the expert opinions to 3 radiologists and as a result, only images obtained by 0.1mmCu filter out of all the images on which copper filters were used were accepted as the ones with diagnostic value same as none filter. At this time, the incident dose on the pelvic region was 0.895mGy which was smaller than the one in none filter by 47%. Therefore, using 0.1mmCu when obtaining anteroposterior pelvic images can effectively decrease the radiation exposure of patients.

The purpose of this study was to determine the test-retest reliability and the concurrent validity between tinetti mobility test (TMT), berg balance scale (BBS) and space balance 3D which is one of the computerized measurement and visual feedback balance assessment system in subacute stroke patients. Twenty three ambulatory acute stroke subjects were measured the TMT, BBS and space balance 3D. The test-retest reliability(intra-class correlation coefficient: ICC) indicated that the static and dynamic balance in space balance 3D considered moderate reliability and TMT, BBS were good reliability. In case of concurrent validity, there were moderate validity (p<.01) between static balance test with space balance 3D and each TMT, BBS. But there were only poor validity (p<.05) between center to forward-left, center to backward-left phase in dynamic balance test with space balance 3D and each TMT, BBS. These findings suggest that in subacute stroke patients the test-retest reliability and concurrent validity using the space balance 3D and TMT were valuable in balance test but there was limitation to evaluate dynamic balance test.

In this study, Entropy method and PROMETHEE(Preference Ranking organization METHod for Enrichment Evaluations) which is one of the multi criteria decision making methods are applied to estimate the relative inundation risk ranking of the urban sewer systems. Then, the evaluation factors were selected considering two main items to estimate the inundation risk using Entropy and PROMETHEE. In the first item considering topographical and environmental factor, average elevation, average slope, width of area, population, density of conduit were selected as the detailed factors of first item which have influence of the overflow occurrence and damage scale in urban sewer system. And, the relative reliability of sewer network was considered as the second item which can quantify the inundation appearance. Then, the reliability is estimated considering the number of overflow nodes and overflow volume simultaneously. Therefore, the suggested inundation risk evaluation method can be used as the evaluation index for sewer networks and contribute to decision making for the sewer rehabilitation policy.

In case that R&D results from R&D projects are well managed and archived, the research institutes can transfer the valuable technologies related to R&D results with some costs to corporations. However, it is still difficult to maintain and reuse R&D results because they are managed by each person or each department and not integrated between R&D results. Therefore, the government should undertake to manage R&D results overall by collecting meta data and distribute analyzed information from meta data. Each researching institute also makes an efforts to manage R&D results focusing on their reusing. For this purpose, in this paper, we present a process to manage R&D results; insert meta data of R&D results to the system, upload files of R&D results to the database of the system, inquire, and use meta data of R&D results. Based on the process, we design a system architecture for managing R&D results. In addition, it should be mainly considered to design a global schema for integrating R&D results into one database. The system shows detailed information on R&D results and provides R&D results conveniently to users. We expect that we may reduce the cost of reusing R&D results and improve the quality of R&D results with designing efficiently a process and a global schema of R&D result management system.
