Coding Efficiency Improvement By Applying Rate-Distortion Optimization To 3D-DCT Based Integral Image Compression Method
Jeon, Ju-Il ; Kang, Hyun-Soo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.001
In this paper, we propose a rate-distortion optimization method to improve the coding efficiency of the conventional 3D-DCT based compression method using adaptive block mode selection for integral images. In the conventional 3D-DCT based compression method, 3D-DCT blocks of variable block sizes are adaptively selected depending on the characteristics of integral images, and then 3D-DCT is performed. The proposed method applies a rate-distortion optimization to determine the optimal block mode. In addition, we suggest the optimal Lagrangian parameter for integral images. Experimental results show that the proposed method gives bit-rate reduction of about 5%.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 9~15
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.009
A conventional event sentence extraction research doesn't learn the 3W features in the learning step and applies the rule on whether the 3W feature exists in the extraction step. This paper presents a sentence weight based event sentence extraction method that calculates the weight of the 3W features in the learning step and applies the weight of the 3W features in the extraction step. In the experimental result, we show that top 30% features by the
weighting method is good in the feature filtering. In the real estate domain of the public issue, the performance of sentence weight based event sentence extraction method is improved by who and when of 3W features. Moreover, In the real estate domain of the public issue, the sentence weight based event sentence extraction method is better than the other machine learning based extraction method.

A path generation method considering the tendencies of users is required because users has the preferred routes through the properties such as time, distance, and congest. The existing method must input the additional information about user's tendency to generate path considering moving tendencies. However, mobile device have the inconvenient interface. Therefore users are reluctant to input additional information for path generation. In this paper, we propose the path generation method considering the tendencies of users without additional input of users tendencies. To show the superiority of the proposed method, we compared it with shortest distance or time path through performance evaluation.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 57~67
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.057
There is much confusion with the relationship between character and actor. Under the pressure of 'becoming' a character, the actor tends to begin his work apart from his own senses, imagination and memory, and is most likely to fall into the trap of artificiality and clich
. Like every other art, the actor has to begin honestly with himself who, in nature, has unfathomable possibilities. To be and live as a character, the actor has to experience. To experience, to react. To react, to see with all the senses. Like ours, each character's life goes on from reaction to reaction, reacting to the images from the imagination and the memory. "You are what you see." The actor is put into the extremely unfamiliar circumstances of drama, given only with his own senses, imagination and memory. Fear comes in. However, fear cannot stop the actor's challenging journey to self-discoveries. The actor does and acts, not because he is certain but because he is not. The actor challenges himself to go beyond the limit and uncertainty, so that he will finally come to know and truly understand human beings from the challenges of his own. In a nutshell, acting is a journey to the unknown and the unfamiliar in which the actor unceasingly discover new 'I's.
Analysis of Visual Characteristic of Directing For Dramatic Narrative -Focusing on Composition Technique of
Ahn, Byung-Taek ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 68~79
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.068
In film various techniques interact organically in order to bring a story to life and, by doing so, influence the audience's perception. The techniques composing the form of a film are part of a format-system and therefore have to be well adjusted to the content of the film to trigger an intended effect. It is then that these techniques boost the intensity of the audience's emotional experience. The subject of analysis in this study of aesthetic composition, which is part of the concept of visual narrative, is the movie "Silence", which depicts a disturbing story based on real events. The goal of this study is the analysis of composition techniques used to support the film's narrative structure, where elaborate frame-composition and techniques are applied with great efficiency. Another goal is also to illustrate the meaning of film-format and its importance. Looking deeper into the question of how meaning and emotions, which are inherent in a film, finally manifest themselves on screen through a single shot, where the cinematographer's ideas and aesthetic vision come together and also the question of how a narrative structure in the context of a film works- these questions are the essence of this study.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.080
Using technology acceptance model, this study investigates the factors affecting N-screen service adoption. We collected 435 available answers from potential users through systematic online survey. Results show that self-efficacy and perceived interactivity factors had positive effects on perceived ease of use. In addition, service variety, perceived interactivity, perceived ease of use factors had positive effects on perceived usefulness. Yet social effect factor had negative effect on perceived usefulness. On the other hand, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness had positive effect on the intention of use. In conclusion, to improve the intention to use N-screen service, it is necessary to make users convinced that N-screen service can give customized contents and interactive information regardless of time and place.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.093
Dardenne brothers' films deals with minorities' issues who are shoved out to periphery of society, and especially takes interest in value-deprived human life in labor market of today. This study examines such social awareness of Dardenne brothers targeting their latest works awarded in Cannes Film Festival,
. And analysis is attempted about Dardenne brothers' unique formal aesthetical style that exactly captures such social awareness. In Dardenne brothers' films a person shows up who faces abject matter of living. Their agony is closely connected to unemployment, and shows images of irresistible anxiety and alienation. Dardenne brothers' images are not only simple platform with contents embodied, but designed form showing essential thematic consciousness. Location and gaze, motion of camera capturing a character makes us to reflect the situation a character is facing in the world. There are almost no regard about plots, no dramatic devices, superficial and even straightforward, but Dardenne brothers' films have such independent formal aesthetic, which makes able to give endless tension.

Kim, Moo-Kyu ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 106~115
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.106
This paper focuses on the systematic conceptualization of the 'contents' through the differentiation between the meanings of the work of art and the contents. The 'contents' are referred to as various media products, but they are all the audience-oriented work of art. From the beginning of its birth the film medium turned out to be a kind of contents, which is involved in the specific role of audience. It also implies that the film medium could not exist without the interaction of the media text and audience. In order to understand this context, this paper analyzes the film
of Alfred Hitchcock.
Comparing the Application of IMC in Korean Television Advertising across Product Type
Kang, Kyoung-Soo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 116~125
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.116
This study examined the degree to which integrated marketing communication(IMC) might be manifested in South Korean television advertising. Using a framework by Nowak and Phelps(1994), this study investigated the degree of IMC utilization by service organizations and physical goods manufacturers at the advertisement level. The Result showed that 44.6% of the television ads were classified as integrated marketing communication according to criteria discussed by Nowak and Phelps(1994). More specifically, approximately 90.7% of the integrated ads achieved this status by using two communication tools of different orientations. In addition, the most common form of IMC at this lowest level consisted of an image-oriented(brand advertising) and a behavior-oriented(direct response) communication tool. The second common form of IMC, that is, 9.3%, used three different communication tools; they consisted of an image-oriented tool(brand advertising) and the two behavior-oriented(i.e., direct response and sales promotion) communication tools. Nothing of the magazine ads used all four tools. Thus, South Korean television ads exhibited higher degrees of IMC which tended to include more behavior-oriented communication tools than image-oriented communication tools. These results indicate that much higher chances for advertisers to expand the level of IMC will be existed. Furthermore, the results suggest that significantly higher as well as a wider variety of communication tools are being used by advertisers, considering the limit of samples investigated in this research.
Su-Hyeon Kim Through Lacan: The Subject and The Desire Focused on the Heroines of the

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 126~135
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.126
This study is the subsequent full-scale research of a TV drama writer who has been out of scholarly pursuits as it explores Su-Hyeon Kim's underlying consciousness with focusing on her heroines, the
. The author Su-Hyeon Kim clearly distinguishes a TV melodrama from a TV home-drama by her own self-control, which is a rare case in TV drama genres, therefore, her consciousness lights up at her melodrama. This study applies Lacanian theory to the author's melodramas for examining the author's under-lying thought. For Lacan the subject is an 'alienated', 'privative', 'fractured' 'being' as an imperfect language, the symbolic order, forms the subject through its signification. The subject desires the other's desire, and wants to become an object for the other's desire. The desire constantly demands an integral world, a perfect love, the wholly harmonious imaginary order. And it lasts up as it refuses the symbolic order's imperfection while it works its unconscious fantasy. Lacan states that only the 'traversing the fantasy', 'separation' would give birth to the real, liberated subject. Despite a 20-years of rift within two works, the
have an identical conflict core, that is a subject's constitutive, fundamental privation and desire of a human being. Su-Hyeon Kim's underlying consciousness complies with her continued theses of an inquiry into the subject's real liberation and freedom when desire of the rings produces the subject's alienation, privation, and the pursuit of a impossible perfect love.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 136~145
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.136
This research proposes a pattern making method for women's bodice by the characters of body types and develops bodice dress forms on their body shapes applying 3D body scan data. 515 women's body scan data was collected and analyzed factor and cluster analysis. Three body types were characterized in normal, obese, and slim group. In each group, 10 subjects were selected. 20 parts in 3D anthropometric data were measured using Autocad program. The amount of waist dart was calculated and three types of basic bodice pattern were developed using the calculated darts data. The amount and the position of front dart and side dart were different at obese group in comparison of normal and thin group. The three types of basic bodice model were made by the basic bodice pattern, and each model was scanned by 3D scanner to make 3D bodice dress forms. Three types of bodice dress forms were rendered using 3D max program. Bodice dress forms had the dart lines and were useful to draft patterns to fit their body shape.

Culture and Art Policies of Korean government for Traditional Dancing Digital Contents
Kim, Ji-Won ; Rhyu, Ji-Sung ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 156~171
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.156
It is the time of the Korean Wave booming throughout the world, placing Korean culture in the center of the world and its added value is unaccountable. At this prosperity, the preserving of the archetype of Korean dancing and digital contents making is becoming a task not only for the government but also for the private sector because culture industry has enormous added values. To achieve such goals, contents development is an urgent matter but establishing the value of the archetype of Korean traditional dancing must have priority. The public has to take an active role in rediscovering the values of traditional culture, and as the representative of Korean identity traditional dancing must be the object of a systematic art policy. This study will review the current status of 'digital contents program of the archetype of culture' for traditional dancing and will reconsider the modern value of preserving the archetype of culture to make a suggestion to the direction of culture art policies in the near future. The study acknowledged the lack of technical personnel majoring in the archetype of traditional dancing and the need of reviewing the credibility of historical research procedures. Even with the studies by industry-university collaboration and positioning of specialists, effective policies that will form the foundation for private firms to train personnels is in urgent need. In other words, training personnels, allocation of resource, securing funds, policies promoting collaboration between private and individual businesses, and the commercial recognition at private firms are still far from establishing. This is due to the fact that archetype of culture is not a business that creates revenue immediately, therefore the recognition of traditional dancing as an investable item by business-oriented firms or movements are difficult to find. To overcome such situation, software oriented policies that establish open communication and sharing with the public should be done at first rather than the quantity oriented hardware policies of contents development. Through this process the public can change the attitude on traditional dancing and traditional dancing could be newly recognized as a creative repository of culture and as public businesses giving birth to economic value.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.182
Recent growth of ring-tone and ring-back-tone download market as the derived market of cellular phone yields the new trend in music consumption from listening to display. This means that consumer purchase the ring-tone and RBT not for his appreciation but for counterpart's consumption, in a word, conspicuous consumption. Study aims at questions on whether cellular phone user can perceive the ring-tone and RBT's brand personality and how they express their self-image via ring-tone and RBT. Survey was administered for 196 college students who is dominant purchase group of market segment. Hypotheses are such as : congruity of self image and brand personality of ring-tone and RBT. Through the T-test, findings said that user's extrovert self image are not led to ring-tone's extrovert brand personality and user's introvert self image are not led to introvert ring-tone's brand personality of ringtone. same result was applicable to RTB. Cellular phone user's purchase behavior are different from those of product and service.
Study on the User Experience Design for Emotional Marketing in an Transmedia Environment
Huh, Jin ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 194~201
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.194
The expansion of media is in close connection with the expansion of awareness. The invention of characters enabled mankind to cross over time and space. Machines led to the development of body functions and electricity led to the expansion of space and time. Computers are the extension of the human brain and the advent of the internet led to the expansion of relationships. Even at this moment, media is unremittingly progressing like a spread of a mutant virus, and has resulted in fusion and complex phenomena such as convergence and hybrid media. Transmedia is a compound word formed by the word "Trans" which means traverse, transcend, penetrate or change, and the word "Media" and has the meaning "media which transcends media" which embraces all of modern day media. However, unlike other fusion or complex media, it is different in that it is not a combination of technologies but a combination of technology and emotion. Thus, transmedia should be recognized as a form of media that carries a significant meaning from the user experience aspect as it must simultaneously satisfy both "emotional awareness", which appeals to the human emotion, and "conscious awareness" of mankind, which arises out of the digital technology considered to be important in the smart-era society. This study first examines the concept of transmedia, and then examines the role of user experience design which triggers conscious thinking and strategies for emotional marketing. This study aims to be recognized as a matter for consideration with respect to the development stage for the establishment of a steady communication relationship between developers and designers, as well as communication with users.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.250
Disease, such as osteopenia, osteoporosis, etc caused by reduced bone density are common to women after menopause and as the social medical cost increases due to osteoporosis fractures the medical interest in bone density reduction has increased. The bone density reduction is observed even for renal failure patients, due to their decreased ability to synthesize vitamin D which leads to bone fibrosis because of deficiency in calcium absorption. Thus renal failure patients not only suffer from kidney dysfunction, but also are exposed to complications, such as osteoporosis, due to reduced bone density. This research observed the change in bone density of patients receiving renal failure treatment and analyzed the change in bone density before and after kidney transplantations. Subjects were 214 renal failure patients at the department of nephrology Busan B General Hospital. The change in bone density was studied for subjects with and without kidney transplantation according to their age and sex. The research showed improvement or maintenance of bone density for subjects that received kidney transplantation, but showed a tendency of consistent decrease in bone density for subjects without kidney transplantation. Kidney transplantation can be considered as the best cure for renal failure patients, and this researched confirmed that bone density can be improved through kidney transplantation. Thus, this study can also be used as data for preventing complications due to renal failures.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.270
This paper explores CT findings of a rabbit brain infection model injected with Escherichia coli and investigates the changes in Hounsfield unit (HU) of arterial blood over time. The brain infection model was produced by injecting E. coli
CFU/ml, 0.1 ml through the burr hole in the calvarium; 2~3 mm in depth from the dura mater, and contrast-enhanced CT, dynamic CT and arterial blood CT images were gained. It was found that various brain infections such as brain abscess, ventriculitis and meningitis. The CT image of brain abscess showed a typical pattern which the peripheral area was strongly contrast-enhanced while the center was weakly contrast-enhanced. The CT image of ventriculitis showed a strong contrast-enhancement along the lateral ventricle wall, and the CT image of meningitis showed a strong contrast-enhancement in the area between the telencephalon and the diencephalon. In dynamic CT images, the HU value of the infection core before injecting contrast medium was
. By 10 minutes after the injection, the value increased gradually to
. The HU value in the areas of the marginal rim where was hyper-enhanced showed
before contrast injection, and it increased to
about 45 seconds after the injection. In addition, the HU value of the normal brain tissue opposite to the E. coli. injected brain was
before the injection, but after the contrast injection, the value increased to
in about 30 seconds, and then it showed a gradual decline. In the arterial blood CT, the HU value before the contrast injection was
, and it increased dramatically between 10 to 30 seconds until it reached a maximum value of
. Then it fell sharply to
between 30 seconds to 45 seconds and reached a plateau by 60 seconds. Later, the value showed a steady decrease and indicated
at 20 minutes. Through this experiment, it was demonstrated that the brain infection model can be produced by injecting E. coli., and the characteristic of the infection model can be well observed with contrast-enhanced CT scan. The dynamic CT scan showed that the center of the infection was gradually contrast-enhanced, whereases the peripheral area was rapidly contrast-enhanced and then slowly decreased. As for arterial blood, it increased significantly between 10 seconds to 30 seconds after the contrast medium injection and decreased gradually after reaching a plateau.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 12, issue 9, 2012, Pages 280~292
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.280
In general, a venture capital invests in tech startups and helps them improve the corporate transparency through board of directors. With respect to venture capital investment and its impact on the corporate transparency of the newly public firms from 2004 to 2010 in Korea, we have made regression analysis. First, it was found that it was likely to be less transparent, the larger its asset size or the higher its debt ratio was. Second, lower level of ownership-control disparity resulted in higher transparency. Third, a shorter period to IPO and higher growth rate were more prominent in companies with lower degree of transparency. The above findings were not conclusive to prove whether or not venture capital directly increases the transparency level of its portfolio companies, but do insinuate the possibility of a negative impact on the transparency of its investee companies, as early IPO's were associated with less transparency. This is all the more persuasive as it was observed that companies with a lower level of transparency had generally raised more money from venture capitals, and that companies with a higher growth rate and/or higher PBR, have shown to be less transparent.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2012.12.09.380
One of the key factors for success in fostering web-service is the supply of user-generated contents(UGCs). Technological interactivity is an environmental factor which stimulates user-content interaction, and reflects the system's capability for supporting various interactions that are allowed by a medium. The present study uses a structural equation model to investigate the influence of three components of technological interactivity-user control, synchronicity, and responsiveness-on web-services' perceived content performance. The results show that web-services' user control and synchronicity exhibited a positive relationship with the perceived efficiency of content generation; further, perceived efficiency boosts perceptions of content quality, which means that the user control and synchronicity of a web-service also have an indirect effect on perceived content quality. Additionally, responsiveness has a positive effect on perceived content quality. These findings are important for marketers and operators seeking to make their web-service successful.
