Face Recognition by Fiducial Points Based Gabor and LBP Features
Kim, Jin-Ho ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.001
The accuracy of a real facial recognition system can be varied according to the accuracy of the eye detection algorithm when we design and implement a semi-automatic facial recognition algorithm depending on the eye position of a database. In this paper, a fully automatic facial recognition algorithm is proposed such that Gabor and LBP features are extracted from fiducial points of a face graph which was created by using fiducial points based on the eyes, nose, mouth and border lines of a face, fitted on the face image. In this algorithm, the recognition performance could be increased because a face graph can be fitted on a face image automatically and fiducial points based LPB features are implemented with the basic Gabor features. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can be used in real-time recognition for more than 1,000 faces and produce good recognition performance for each data set.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 9~18
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.009
In order to measure the parameters of consumers' preferred image quality, this research suggests image quality assessment factors; dynamic range, color, and contrast. They have both physical image quality factors and psychological characteristics from the previous researches. We found out the specific ranges of preferred image quality metrics. As a result, Digital Zone System meant for dynamic range generally shows 6~10 stop ranges in portrait, nightscape, and landscape. Total RGB mean values represent in portrait (67.2~215.2), nightscape (46~142), and landscape (52~185). Portrait total RGB averages have the widest range, landscape, and nightscape, respectively. Total scene contrast ranges show in portrait (196~589), nightscape (131~575), and landscape (104~767). Especially in portrait, skin tone RGB mean values are in ZONE V as the exposure standard, but practically image consumers' preferred skin tone level is in ZONE IV. Also, total scene versus main subject contrast ratio represents 1:1.2; therefore, we conclude that image consumers prefer the out-of-focus effect in portrait. Throughout this research, we can measure the preferred image quality metrics ranges. Also, we expect the practical and specific dynamic range, color, and contrast information of preferred image quality to positively influence product development.

Kim, Hyung-Il ; Yoon, Hyun-Nim ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 19~29
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.019
In the current Internet environment where there is high space complexity of information, search engines aim to provide accurate information that users want. But content-based method adopted by most of search engines cannot be used as an effective tool in the current Internet environment. As content-based method gives different weights to each web page using morphological characteristics of vocabulary, the method has its drawbacks of not being effective in distinguishing each web page. To resolve this problem and provide useful information to the users, this paper proposes an evaluation method based on categories. Category-based evaluation method is to extend query to semantic relations and measure the similarity to web pages. In applying weighting to web pages, category-based evaluation method utilizes user response to web page retrieval and categories of query and thus better distinguish web pages. The method proposed in this paper has the advantage of being able to effectively provide the information users want through search engines and the utility of category-based evaluation technique has been confirmed through various experiments.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.030
In recent years, with the development of devices to collect multimedia data such as small CMOS camera sensor and micro phone, studies on wireless multimedia sensor network technologies and their applications that extend the existing wireless sensor network technologies have been actively done. In such applications, various basic schemes such as the processing, storage, and transmission of multimedia data are required. Especially, a security for real world environments is essential. In this paper, in order to defend the sniffing attack in various hacking techniques, we propose a multipath routing scheme for physically avoiding the data transmission path from the risk factors. Our proposed scheme establishes the DEFCON of the sensor nodes that are geographically close to risk factors and the priorities according to the importance of the data. Our proposed scheme performs risk factor detour multipath routing through a safe path considering the DEFCON and data priority. Our experimental results show that although our proposed scheme takes the transmission delay time by about 5% over the existing scheme, it reduces the eavesdropping rate that can attack and intercept data by the risk factor by about 18%.

To verify the condition of patients moving in the medical center like hospital needs to be consider the various wireless communication network protocols and network components. Wireless communication protocols such as the 802.11a, 802.11g, and direct sequence has their specific characteristics, and the various components such as the number of mobile nodes or the distance of transmission range could affects the performance of the network. Especially, the network topologies are considered the characteristic of the brain wave(EEG) since the condition of patient is detected from it. Therefore, in this paper, various wireless communication networks are designed and simulated with Opnet simulator, then evaluated the performance to verify the wireless network that transmits the patient's EEG data efficiently. Overall, the 802.11g had the best performance for the wireless network environment that transmits the EEG data. However, there were minor difference on the performance result depends on the components of the topologies.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.048
With the development of IT convergence technology and the construction of infrastructure for water leakage detection, the detection technology of damaged pileline's location and size is being spotlighted. The exhaustion of water resource due to the leakage of water supply facilities renders it urgent to detect water leakage effectively. In this paper, we proposed the water leakage detection monitoring simulation using the power spectrum analysis. We measured the reflected wave signal by the proposed water leakage detection monitoring simulation. The rate variability is calculated form the acquired reflected wave signal. And the power spectrum analysis using the Fast Fourier Transform is evaluated the correlation between the water leakage's size and the reflected wave. Ultimately, this paper suggests empirical simulation to verify the adequacy and the validity. Accordingly, the satisfaction and the quality of services will be improved the efficient management by supporting the real-time water leakage detection.

NUI(Natural User Interfaces) has been developed through CLI(Command Line Interfaces) and GUI(Graphical User Interfaces). NUI uses many different input modalities, including multi-touch, motion tracking, voice and stylus. In order to adopt NUI to legacy GUI applications, he/she must add device libraries, modify relevant source code and debug it. In this paper, we propose a gesture-based interface model that can be applied without modification of the existing event-based GUI applications and also present the XML schema for the specification of the model proposed. This paper shows a method of using the proposed model through a prototype.

Lim, Woon-Joo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 83~90
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.083
This study attempts interpretation of vertical montage expressed in assoziation montage focused on animation, Paprika. Montage has been continuously studied by Pudovkin, Eisenstein, Jacques Aumont and others till now. However, existing studies focused on the visual image of montage. Image is made of visual element and aural element. These two interact with each other and maximize the effect. It is believed that the study subject can be approached in more depth, if aural elements would be analyzed based on the assoziation montage which analyzed visual image in previous studies. Accordingly, this study explores and analyzes how vertical montage has been used in logical montage and optical conflict montage and what meanings they generated. The analysis results suggested followings. In logical montage and optical conflict montage, vertical montage complemented visual image by natural concurrence as a whole. Vertical montage also showed linked relationship, which reflects overall emotion by melodious concurrence. In addition, when there was melodious concurrence at certain time, place or unclear space, the elements showed continuity which made them link with relationship. However, when the role that cuts that continuity, in other words, when the tonal element, which let audience partially immerse, would be properly used when the space and time would change or get reversed, the effect was maximized. It also expressed a turning point of an event and enhanced the concentration of audience on the characters.
Reality and Fiction in the Visual Media - Focusing on the Christian Perspective
Kim, Seong-Hoon ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 91~104
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.091
The Rothschild family in the UK and the Rockefeller in the USA installed a number of private organization with which they could exert their influence on the world, recruited world renowned figured and spread out their arguments via global visual media worldwide. Their ultimate goal was to reshuffle the world in a new global order. They attempted to persuade people to accept their messages by reiterating them via their visual media. They deliver their own value of existence, efficiency and future convenience via their visual media regarding politics, economics and religion. If such is seen in a Christian perspective, they replace the place and existence of God with their own power and attempt to reorganize the world in a new global order. Their desire seems to be that of Anti-Christ, i.e. the Satan in the Bible. This study attempts to reveal that reality of visual media is fictitious from the Christian perspective.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 105~114
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.105
The purpose of this paper is to explain the operation and meaning of the narrative, which is one of the main principles for the contents construction, especially focusing on the concepts 'difference' and 'desire'. The classical aesthetic taught us that the differences between diverse characters and reality models are the effective strategy for the reading the story. But this paper focuses on the structural difference of the event (story) and performance (discourse) of narrative, which are regarded as the basic condition of narrative. This difference is to describe in terms of the media theory and psychoanalysis. This paper also seeks to interpret the recent korean film
to exemplify that the creation of difference for the fulfillment of desire is the basic element of the narrative constitution.

Park, Hoyoung ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 137~146
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.137
Anton Chekhov was able to deliver a significant influence to the 20th realist drama types and styles, because his deep thoughts about diverse aspects of human life were realistically expressed on stages. Western realistic actors endeavored to embody their routines based on their words, behaviors, and habits. Chekhov used his outstanding talent to identify the characteristics of people, created unforgettable drama characters, and focused on their behavioral motives. From his philosophical point of view, Chekhov argued that secrets are hidden in life itself, and that everything, shown on the stage, should be as it is in our actual daily life. The realistic acting, recognizing the difference between the daily truth and the truth mentioned in works, pursued acting styles by which audiences regarded play characters as the real people.

Understanding Sensible Design through John Dewey's Transaction
Huh, Jin ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 156~163
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.156
In the past, the enlargement of perception through media was 'information'. From now on, however, the primary objective of media is to consist not in conveying information but in sharing the values of 'emotion' and 'experience' that are perceived through information. Individual emotional becomes an issue due to the limitations of the ideology of modernism and the pervasiveness of the autonomous perception in the human thinking that started in postmodernism. If we once again talk about a function-focused, sensible approach for the sake of marketing in the current era that has impinged on the limits of mammonism, we must keep in mind that 'emotion,' presently retaken as the originary, human value and the value of new communication, may come to an end any time. Therefore, th current thesis is designed to examine John Dewey's 'transaction' as a method for figuring out the concept of emotion, the perceptional function latent in humans. Dewey's 'transaction,' which is a term that refers to the reciprocal relationships between humans and environment and the accompanying totality of perceptive process, interprets human emotion, user experience and environment as the organic, circular relationships. For such understanding, one must break out of the boundary of the past, dichotomous communication between the subject and the object to expand into the perceptional relations in a wider environment, in order to seek design methods that would help dismantle the borderline that has so far separated the developer from the user, share sensibilities, and express experiences.

Division of Inherited Property by Agreement and Legal Rescission -focusing on Japanese Supreme Court Decision delivered on February 9, 1989-
Chung, Ku-Tae ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 175~185
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.175
The judgement which is subject of research has denied legal rescission of division of the inherited property by agreement based on (1) the fact that the division of inherited property terminated at the time of concluding mutual agreement in its nature while only the relationship of claim and obligation between the inheritor who has paid for such obligation and the inheritor who has acquired such obligation in the mutual agreement remains (2) and the fact that the legal stability is considerably hindered as the re-partition of inherited property having retroactive effect becomes unavoidable in case of approving the legal rescission of the division of the inherited property by agreement. But it is reasonable to also approve legal rescission on the division of the inherited property by agreement in case the division by agreement actually has the nature such as conditional donation between joint heirs (1) from the fact that the division of the inherited property by agreement gets the nature of disposal equivalent to exchange, transfer and abandonment of share between joint heirs in actuality, (2) and the fact that there are no other theories in approving the validity of mutually agreed rescission despite the fact that the re-partition of inherited property having retroactive effect is unavoidable even in case of the mutually agreed rescission of the division by agreement among all joint heirs. However, as the division of the inherited property by agreement is a contract that gets concluded only if all joint heirs participate, even the legal rescission for the reason of not fulfilling the obligations paid by one party of the heirs during the division by agreement must be considered as possible only by expression of intentions from all other joint heirs excluding this one party.

This study has interest in the cultural environment in the local areas. Despite continuous efforts to establish a new law for the culture and arts in the local areas, they failed because of its non-systematic approach to legal system of culture and arts areas. In order to establish a new law of culture and arts development in the local areas, it explores the existing efforts and foreign cases for the legislation, and analyses the legal system in culture and arts. As a conclusion, it suggests recommendations; Firstly, culture and arts should be separated regarding the legislation for cultural development in the local areas. Secondly, the articles which share same or similar meaning in the existing laws should be rectified. Finally, the roles of central government and local government should be identifies regarding public supports for culture and arts in the local areas.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 234~246
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.234
Microcredit was first introduced by non-profit organization in early 2000s and the Ministry of Health and Welfare promoted the support policy of self-support community and the hope-developing bank. And then, microcredit policy was suddenly changed while the microfinance policy was promoted in 2009. For example, there were changes of the control tower of the policy, the emphasis on financial approach from welfare approach, the establishment of the operation agency. This study analyzed the policy changes on microcredit policy using the framework of Hood(1994) and Joo(1999) in order to analyze causes of sudden changes. As results, the reason affecting microcredit policy change was changes of an unemployment rate and the financial environment, the change of outside situation, the policy idea of the middle practicalism of government and the success of the experiment in microcredit, the passive intervention of stakeholders, the internal factors on the policy custom. So the results suggests that the policy is produced illogically because of the absence of stakeholders' participation.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.257
These days the aged have to live 30 or 40 years beyond the day they quit their day jobs. The quality of life for the elderly is a keen concern for the young people. We need to have a correct understanding of the age problem and the effort of a government or local government in order to bless the average life expectancy and not perceive it as a disaster. The number of the elderly living alone is increasing. Various types of support are needed to ensure that these people do not become socially isolated and are able to live alone. Supporting them includes activities to prevent social isolation that take their unique difficulties into consideration, which are different from the difficulties of supporting elderly people living with their families. In this research examined the current status of support activities for elderly people living alone and the unique difficulties involved in supporting them.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 269~277
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.269
The purpose of this study is to capture how marriage migrant women, who are burdened with the luggage of the social, cultural, and historical 'past,' reconstruct their own 'experiences in reality' as subjective agents after their immigration into a new space. By applying a phenomenological method, this study analyzes the world of life in which marriage migrant women come to have experiences in the dimensions of bodilihood, spatiality, temporality, and relatedness. As a result of the analysis, marriage migrant women never think of their bodiliness as the subject of discrimination though they have some differences in skin colors and cultural aspects, and make efforts to overcome prejudices in reality withtheir pride of body. As for the spatiality, marriage migrant women attempts at a spatial turn in which they reconstruct a novel sociocultural space. With respect to the temporality, marriage migrant women recognize themselves not as passive subjects who only resent reality but as being prepared for future actively. As for the relatedness, marriage migrant women show life in which they pioneer their own areas on the basis of extended personal relations.

Dandelion(Taraxacum officinale), an oriental herbal medicine, has been shown to favorably affect choleretic, antioxidative and protection of gastric mucosa. The protective effects of common dandelion leaf and root extract were investigated by irradiation in Sprague-Dawley rats. Male SD rats, 6weeks, were orally injected with dandelion extract(100mg/kg) for 10days. Immediately after final injection, rats were whole body irradiated with 10Gy used irradiation facility(Elekta Linac, Sweden). At 24h-15days after irradiation, complete blood counted test and apoptosis in jejunal crypt cell. Stimulated recovery by the extract was observed in platelet but was not showed in the erythrocyte and leucocyte. The jejunal crypt cells were protected significantly(p<0.05) and the radiation-induced apoptosis was reduced(p<0.05). The survival rate were carried for 15days, the survival ratio was 15% and 85% for the control and experimental group. Observations intestinal inhibition of cell death, intestinal mucosa and tissue decreased systemic inflammation and vacuole. Base on these data, we propose that dandelion may be a useful radioprotector, especially since it is a relatively nontoxic natural product.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.417
The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of macroeconomic variables on the hotel profitability and suggest the reasonable way to handle them. To achieve this purpose, seven macroeconomic variables were used as an independent variable. These were the index of industrial production, West Texas Intermediate, the consumer price index, the unemployment rate, the money supply, the trade balance and the exchange rate. And ROA and ROE of total hotels were used as a dependant variable respectively. As the result of regression, it was found that the index of industrial production and the exchange rate had a significant and positive effect on ROA. And West Texas Intermediate, the consumer price index and the unemployment rate had a significant and negative effect on ROA. Also the consumer price index and the unemployment rate had a significant and negative effect on ROE and the exchange rate had a significant and positive effect on ROE. Through the analysis two key variables were found to be very important ones. These were the unemployment rate and the exchange rate. So the hotel managers need to emphasize on the good price of domestic hotel products and supply the various productions and services to the guests when the exchange rate is increased. But when the unemployment rate is increased, the hotel managers should consider to supply the middle price products with the hight price products.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.456
The most important thing to develop real estate asset would be a feasibility study. To secure feasibility of development projects, reducing and minimizing the cost of land and construction also would be the important thing. To analyze optimal land-value for real estate development projects, I have collected 204 balance sheets of development projects in South Korea. With the help of statistical technology, I could have selected useful data from those balance sheets. After detailed analysis of statistical data, I could have reached conclusion that the most important factor to earning rate would be land cost per unit ground area under the constraint of given sale price. So far the main pattern of feasibility study of development projects was land cost and construction cost. However, by this study, I have found a new fact that construction cost has little effect to earning rate and land cost per unit ground area is the most effect to earning rate especially in residential facilities rather than commercial ones.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.01.498
It is time to extensively reshuffle domestic film industry, which has grown rapidly in recent years. Above all, a most urgent task for domestic film industry is to train specialized staff by working out a foundation for on-site human resource education. For this, it is necessary to review the existing apprenticeship system-a major educational system for domestic film industry for a long time-and then work out a reasonable substitute which can overcome its limitations and succeed its advantages. In other words, it is necessary to switch a current perpendicular rank system, a basis of apprenticeship system, to a horizontal specialized staff system and then establish an industrial information network with which the current status of on-site human resources can be understood and which can comprehensively manage their career, promotion and wages. In this regard, this study suggested the introduction of workplace learning and mentoring as a new system for on-site human resource education for film industry, in order to work out an educational system that could maintain abundant on-site experience and the sense of emotional tie with fellow workers-the advantages of apprenticeship system-and realize a more systematic and specialized workplace learning.
