Distortion Correction Method Using Spectral Characteristics of Integral Images
Jin, Zhengju ; Lee, Byung-Ju ; Kang, Hyun-Soo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 10, 2013, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.10.001
In this paper, we propose a new method to correct the perspective distortion that occurs in the process of acquiring the integral images. In the proposed method, the distortion correction is based on the spectral characteristics of integral images. As element images of an integral image are repeated nearly periodically, its Fourier spectrum is given as an impulse train. On the contrary, the impulse train do not appear in the spectra of distorted images. In the proposed method, therefore, the perspective distortion parameters are detected by using the characteristics of the spectrum obtained through the Fourier transform, and then the distorted images are corrected by using the parameters. Through experiments, we verify that the proposed method effectively works for the perspective distortion correction.

In this paper, we analyzed the effects of game-based visual feedback training on postural balance control in young adults and older adults. We provided postural balance training by 23 young adults and 14 older adults and for four weeks in fifth minute a day and three days a week using IBalance(Cybermedic Inc., Korea). We evaluated the ability of postural balance using balance SD(Biodex, medicalscience Inc., USA) for the validation of game contents based on visual feedback training program. The results showed that postural stability and limits of stability of young adults and older adults were improved significantly before and after the training(p<0.05). Thus, the games of postural balance encouraged anterior, posterior, medial, lateral and multidirectional weight shifting regarding postural balance. Our study indicates that postural balance training of visual feedback based game could be adapted for improving postural balance. Moreover, we could develope of game contents for individuals and various ages for effective application of this game-based visual feedback training.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.10.019
In the Malaysian license plates, alphabets and numerals which are made by plastic, are adhered to a frame as embossing style and occasionally characters in horizontal, vertical directions are aligned with narrow space. So the extraction of character stroke information can be hard in the vehicle images of low illumination intensity. In this paper, Malaysian license plate recognition algorithm for low illumination intensity image is proposed. DoG filtering based character stroke generation method is introduced to derive exact connected components of strokes in the vehicle image of low illumination intensity. After localization of plate by connected component analysis, characters are segmented and recognized. Algorithm is experimented for the 6,046 vehicle images captured in Kuala Lumpur by IR camera without using any special light during day and night. The experimental results show that recognition accuracy of plates is 96.1%.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.10.027
Recently, as researches on VANET have actively progressed, the convenient and reliable services can be provided to the vehicles. In this paper, we propose the collaborative RSU scheduling scheme using multiple RSUs which are connected through a wired backbone. The proposed scheme efficiently disseminates both unsafety data and safety data, and reduces the deadline miss rate and the average response time. When safety data is occurred, it is send to previous RSU in advance and is scheduled by deadline and reception rate. We provide the prevention technology for unsafety data when the workload is occurred in RSU because it is on-demand data processed by user requests. It is shown through performance evaluation that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing scheme in terms of the deadline miss rate and the average response time according to the number of vehicles and the velocities of vehicles.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 10, 2013, Pages 37~45
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.10.037
In recent years, the demands of multimedia data in wireless sensor networks have been significantly increased for the high-quality environment monitoring applications that utilize sensor nodes. However, since the amount of multimedia data is very large, the network lifetime is significantly reduced due to excessive energy consumption on particular nodes. To overcome this problem, in this paper, we propose a high efficiency data compression scheme in wireless multimedia sensor networks. The proposed scheme reduces the packet size by a multiple compression technique that consists of primary compression that deletes the lower priority bits considering characteristics of multimedia data and secondary compression based on Chinese Remainder Theorem. To show the superiority of our scheme, we compare it with the existing compression scheme. Our experimental results show that our proposed scheme reduces the amount of transmitted data by about 55% and increases network lifetime by about 16% over the existing scheme on average.

An inspection of nuclear fuel rods should be performed at remoteness from risks of high level radioactivity, and accuracy is required. Currently, inspection of the nuclear fuel rods is operated to monitor the video that recording an original nuclear fuel rods at remoteness because of the risks of radioactivity. In this paper, it is an implementation of the system was carried out in the process according to the image processing inspection of the nuclear fuel rods. The nuclear fuel rods are configured to use a bundle of plurality, in the image processing technology to verify this, the edge detection method is useful. We suggest to DoG technique to add threshold for the nuclear fuel rod edge detections. This is the new technique that optimized DoG. It is to deal with DoG and threshold to dual process. In this way, after detecting an edge of the nuclear fuel rods, by running a nuclear fuel rod inspection algorithm to determine the status of nuclear fuel rods. We applied the system using the new algorithm, and confirmed an excellent characteristic. In this study, it is considered to be able to be carried out more easily and securely inspect of nuclear fuel rods.

This paper presents a simplified hardware based edge detection circuit which is based on an analog correlator combining with the neighbor pixels in CMOS image sensor. A pixel element of the edge detector consists of an active pixel sensor and an analog correlator circuit which connects two neighbor pixels. The edge detector shares a comparator on each column that the comparator decides an edge of the target pixel with an adjustable reference voltage. The circuit detects image edge from CIS directly that reduces area and power consumption 4 times and 20%, respectively, compared with the previous works. And also it has advantage to regulate sensitivity of the edge detection because the threshold value is able to control externally. The fabricated chip has 34% of fill factor and 0.9
of power per a pixel under 0.18

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 10, 2013, Pages 62~70
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.10.062
DIBR(Depth Image Based Rendering) is a kind of view synthesis algorithm to generate images at free view points from the reference color image and its depth map. One of the main challenges of DIBR is the occurrence of holes that correspond to uncovered backgrounds at the synthesized view. In order to cover holes efficiently, two main approaches have been actively investigated. One is to develop preprocessing algorithms for depth maps or parallax maps to reduce the size of possible holes, and the other is to develop hole filling methods to fill the generated holes using adjacent pixels in non-hole areas. Most conventional preprocessing algorithms for reducing the size of holes are based on the smoothing process of depth map. Filtering of depth map, however, attenuates the resolution of depth map and generates geometric distortions. In this paper, we proposes a novel preprocessing algorithm for parallax map to improve the performance of hole-filling by avoiding the drawbacks of conventional methods.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.10.103
This study is the subsequent full-scale research to explore an undisputed top Korean TV drama writer, Su-Hyeon Kim, more profoundly, who has been out of scholarly pursuits. As it begins with discussing her mixed tendency by genre, we discuss about a useful reading method of the writer's relatively conservative genre, a home-drama. For the purpose of the study, it sets up the intertextuality theory. This study assents to that criticism of diminishing in its original meaning of M. Bakhtin's dialogism, which led J. Kristeva to name and fix the term. Therefore this paper mainly applies the Bakhtin's intertextuality theory to analyze common elements of the writer's
. Also it applies the G. Gennette's intertextuality of 'imprints' and 'transformation' between hypotext and hypertext to figure out their correlation. The analysis shows that the writer's home-drama realizes its mutual relationship and intersubjectivity of the Bakhtin's core intertextuality concept, which results in gaining viewers' popularity. And it also explains that the writer uses 'repetition' and 'transformation' method of intertextuality to contain its intended message in her own home-dramas. As the result of the study, to the writer, Su-Hyeon Kim, while a melodrama genre is for her fundamental inquiry of a 'privative', 'fractured' human being, a home-drama genre is for her message of the only solution of a 'family' to that inquiry with her own intention.
The Symbolic Meaning of the Imaginary Characters in the Movie "Beautiful Mind"
Kim, Seong-Hoon ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 10, 2013, Pages 113~122
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.10.113
The movie "Beautiful Mind" directed by Ron Howard is about a genius global mathematician, John Nash's life. In the movie, the main actor, John Nash is a schizophrenic patient who suffers from hallucination and delusion, and his illusion appears as three distinct characters. Each researcher has had a different opinion on the interpretation of these three characters, but many parts of their opinions are losing consistency. Especially the girl is assumed to be a character from the main actor's hallucination because she is ageless or there is no interpretation of the girl. Although the director Ron Howard did not adopt Aldous Huxley's theory "the more you know the more you see" for the movie, he analyzed the characters in the way of his own with thinking that he can analyze them in accordance with the knowledge level of audience. The imaginary characters come out from John Nash's head and who he wants to be. They are the basic human needs, earthly desire, sexual desire and the desire for honor. John Nash minutely reflects these three kinds of desires in an imaginary world through the three characters. This thesis is to newly suggest the symbolic meaning of the imaginary characters in the movie by clearly analyzing the meaning of the controversial three characters.

Myth with the Times -Return of Pygmalion-
Kim, Mihye ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 10, 2013, Pages 140~150
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.10.140
The Greek sculptor, Pygmalion, created a sculpture which was perfect in shape and fell in love with it. He prayed the goddess of love, Venus to transform it into a real woman. She answered his asking, and he finally got married to her. In Bernard Shaw's movie,
, the linguist, Dr. Higgins, brought a street girl, Eliza Doolittle to his home and educated her standard London dialect and upper-class manners. Unlike the Greek sculptor, Higgins changed not only her appearance but also her inner identity, then she became 'a new woman' of the age. Abby in
seems to live a successful life of thorough planning and pursuing knowledge, but there is no place for her to express natural instinct and human emotion. On the other hand, Mike is a totally different type of a person from her. Like a Greek sculptor, he changes her into a woman who can truly understand other people from her heart and listen to what her inner-self says to her. The Greek myth metaphorically suggests the way to build true relationships between people of all times.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 10, 2013, Pages 151~159
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.10.151
Formalism narrative theory adopts the dualism of Fabula, story material and Sujet, story substance. The recent theories of storytelling convert the dualism into story and storytelling. This essay delves into the mechanism of contemporary storytelling by comparatively analyzing the storytelling of two films, A Korean film, Family Ties and A Hollywood film, Little Miss Sunshine, which are considered to represent contemporary storytelling. While the latter builds its structure through desire usually shown in the classical Hollywood films, the former has the structure which has nothing to do with causality by displaying fragmented stories. And the latter has typical characters, while the former shows totally different reality, using the obscure characters. In conclusion, Little Miss Sunshine has a storytelling which puts audience feeling in tune by controlling it, and Family Ties has one which delivers director's intention.
