Teachers, who are the subject of on-site training, cannot create education content easily reflecting their experience for themselves, and also cannot distribute the content to leaners. Even though the content is distributed, there are limited in available devices as well as representable content features. So, an applicable authoring tool is needed at the user level. In this paper, we propose an authoring tool by which users and teachers can make education content easier based on WYSIWYG interface, and can distribute that. The proposed authoring tool supports various media education content of XML format so that viewers on various smart devices can see the content regardless of operating systems. And not only we conduct survey of users to evaluate convenience and expression of proposed authoring tool, but also we check whether the content can be equally visualized on various smart devices.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.009
In recent years, the demands of multimedia data in wireless sensor networks have been significantly increased for the high-quality environment monitoring applications that utilize sensor nodes to collect multimedia data. However, since the amount of multimedia data is very large, the network lifetime and network performance are significantly reduced due to excessive energy consumption on particular nodes. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient dynamic area compression scheme in wireless multimedia sensor networks. The proposed scheme minimizes the energy consumption in the huge multimedia data transmission process by compression using the Chinese Remainder Theorem(CRT) and dynamic area detection and division algorithm. Our experimental results show that our proposed scheme improves the data compression ratio by about 37% and reduces the amount of transmitted data by about 56% over the existing scheme on average. In addition, the proposed scheme increases network lifetime by about 14% over the existing scheme on average.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.019
In this paper, we present a novel illumination system for parking lots constructed underground. We design and implement this system using microwave sensors and dimming control of LED fluorescent lamps so that we can obtain lighting efficiency of the illumination scheme. We construct an effective illumination system in the aspects of performance and cost, resulting in energy-saving and electricity reduction. Recently conventional energy-saving method applied to old underground parking lots mainly relies upon turning off the half of total number of lamps installed in the parking lot. Sometimes there are some lots that have infrared sensor to be used to turn on/off the fluorescent lamps to realize these operations smoothing. The other schemes utilize timer to control lighting time of the fluorescent lamps. These conventional schemes are forcing to turn off a part of lamps installed so that we cannot apply them in a systematic way. Moreover they will be most inefficient when we leave them alone to be continuous consumers. The lighting control system proposed in this paper can recognize objects through microwave sensors and inform the appropriate lighting time, furthermore we can adjust brightness of LED lamps following the surroundings using dimming control scheme so that we can epochally improve the illumination system for underground parking lots. According to our sophisticated test experiments, we can maximally obtain 81.9% of energy-saving effectiveness using the system proposed in this paper.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.027
Today, livestock industry grows faster and bigger. The number of livestock numbers per farm also grows rapidly. The bigger farms need more sophisticated control of livestock to prevent from all possible diseases, especially contagious diseases. In Korea, diseases cause serious economic loss of 2 trillion won every year, which is about 20% of the total production output. Researches on the wireless bio-signal monitoring technology for livestock are of great importance in the world. In this paper, as a way to predict the possible diseases, we propose a measurement method of the pulse of dairy cows for the continuous health monitoring. It is possible to measure a pulse from central artery and the left chest-wall of the cow. The pulse from central artery is measured by the sensor attached at the tail winding. The pulse at the left chest-wall can also be measured with our newly designed harness.

Park, Sang-Hyo ; Lee, Si-Woong ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 12, 2013, Pages 38~47
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.038
An image coding based on MRC model, a kind of multi-layer image model, first segments a screen image into foreground, mask, and background layers, and then compresses each layer using a codec that is suitable to the layer. The mask layer defines the position of foreground regions such as textual and graphical contents. The colour signal of the foreground (background) region is saved in the foreground (background) layer. The mask layer which contains the segmentation result of foreground and background regions is of importance since its accuracy directly affects the overall coding performance of the codec. This paper proposes a new layer segmentation algorithm for the MRC based image coding. The proposed method extracts text pixels from the background using morphological top hat filtering. The application of white or black top hat transformation to local blocks is controlled by the information of relative brightness of text compared to the background. In the proposed method, the boundary information of text that is extracted from the edge map of the block is used for the robust decision on the relative brightness of text. Simulation results show that the proposed method is superior to the conventional methods.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.062
A great many researches on affordance in HCI(Human Computer Interaction), product design, and cognitive science has been done investigated currently. In addition, the concept of affordances has been applied to games in the incremental trying to understand the relationship between gamers and systems. However, there are some problems to apply them to games because many researchers take ease to use, consistency, and usefulness to handle mainly in HCI rather than the property of the game into account. Consequently, the objective of the study is to investigate affordances in consideration of the features of the game, such as fantasy, variety, and fun based on the concept of them suggested in ecological psychology. A protocol analysis was conducted through the think-aloud method on the full gameplay session to platform action game as the basic genre of many game. The result of this research reveals that a static and movable affordances as a fixed state are discovered and transforming continously, appearing, and disappearing affordances as variable states are uncovered, and physical and cognitive affordances are observed. The result of this research is expected to propose the essential design guideline on the methodology of game design.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.149
This study focuses how storytelling in advertising has introduced and determinated mobile telecommunication technology as a digital technology in the process of its rapid acceptance into our society. The objective of the study is to confirm the role of advertising in introducing technology into a society and the relation between advertising and technology by chasing the digital discourse produced by advertising while digital technology permeates through our society. This study uses content analysis for basic research and discourse analysis for exploring the change of digital discourse in the corporate ads of mobile telecommunication companies since 15 years. As a result, 1) 'digital' and 'analogue' discourses were found to be competing and contesting with each other across the years. Digital discourse mainly connected to a new mode of thinking and lifestyle appeared predominant in the early period, but eventually gave way to its alternative, analogue dialogue. The analogue discourse was brought with such values as humanity, slowness and happiness, which has been by and large undermined by the new, fancy digital technologies and their world, 2) whereas some mixed forms of these two discourses were also found. 3) In the meantime, digital-based mobile communication technologies were identified with people who think outside of box and have an innovative attitude toward their life in the ads. Through this signification process, the ads contribute to permeation of mobile communication technology into our daily life.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.168
Contemporary era has witnessed a diversity of emotion and emotions being expressed through consumption. This paper examines the relationship between social paradigms and emotional design by means of literature study. In sections 2 and 3, I examine the prevalent social paradigms and the concept/development of emotional design. In section 4, I show the correspondence between social paradigms and specific types of emotional design. More specifically it is shown that "pluralism and decentrality" has led to fun design, individual design and participative design; "emotional revolution" has given rise to multi-sensory design, design with positive feelings, design with negative feelings and aesthetic design; "non-materialistic values" have their correspondence in design as performance and story-telling in design; and "organic worldview" finds its expression in ecological design with a wellness emphasis, and in interactive emotional design.

In post-industrial society, the ability to feel and express emotion is becoming ever more important. In diverse areas of our lives such as economic, social, political and cultural activities, we are witnessing an increased application of the emotional dimension. This paper deals with the human experiences in emotional designs. Literature reviews and case analyses have been used as the main research methods. I first examine the aspects of emotional experience in designs, and then go on to analyze the components of each aspect. Emotional experience in designs has three basic aspects : (a) initially there exist user's emotional needs (b) then these emotions are delivered through design, (c) finally, emotions expressed in designs are experienced by the user. Followings are the related components for each aspect : (a) Physiological, psychological, social and cultural factors cause one to feel emotional needs. (b) Emotion is delivered either through visual symbols, experience, interaction and participation. (c) Emotion is experienced by sensing, feeling, thinking, acting and relating.

This study aims to explore the utilizing experience of public support service of the single mothers, who have been assessed as inability in aspect of labor. For this purpose of this study, we had in-depth interview five interviewees who had adolescent children or non-adult children. The participants were from 20s to 50s. From the outcomes of this study, we figured out that they had attempted to escape from the poor realities of life and to help the family budget through their work. However, they could not have plans to fulfill their aims, because of the unhealthy body conditions, the high working costs, the burdens for parenting or child-rearing, and the low levels of working ability. It has been shown that their parenting stresses and depressions from their hard realities have been reinforced, and those psycho-emotional pressures have been projected to connect with the inappropriate disciplines and parenting or child-rearing. And it has been reinforced through utilizing public support service. Consequently, they have become chronic through the repeated disappointment and unhealthy psycho-emotional condition. In this study, we discussed and proposed the labor policies and practical suggestions which have had a close relationship with the efficient judgement systems for work inability.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 12, 2013, Pages 321~327
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.321
Impaired naming difficulty is common in normal elderly as well as in patients with neurological impairment. The 60-item Korean version-Boston Naming Test(K-BNT) is one of the most commonly used test for measuring confrontational naming ability. However, age-related cognitive decline may make the elderly difficult concentrating during the 60-item test, therefore, item reduction of the K-BNT would improve test validity and reliability. Thus, the purpose of this study was to develop a short form of the K-BNT based on Item Response Theory(IRT). Considering item-fit index, sex factor, and item difficulty through Rasch analysis, the 15-item K-BNT(i.e., K-BNT-15) was developed. Via administration of the K-BNT-15, we observed age-related decline in naming ability and significantly different performance between the normal elderly and patients with mild cognitive impairment. This study demonstrates the utility of IRT for developing a short-form language evaluation tool. The K-BNT-15 can be effective as a language screening tool to differentiate between normal aging and pathological diseases.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.357
This research explores the efficiency of social welfare expenditure in Korea by analyzing marginal productivity, scale economies, and elasticity of substitution that could be obtainable from a production function. By virtue of VES production function, such productive indicators are easily identified. If once the efficiency is revealed in the production process, it brings to a positive impact to increase the level of income. Empirical evidences are shown that the public expenditure is operated systematically in comparing with the private one. This is mainly due to the fact that the system of the public sector is well-established. It implies that an operational system for the private sector ought to be built up in a short period of time. Otherwise, increasing in expenditure by a private sector would not be helpful to improve efficiency in the production side. Accordingly, level of income.

Han, Sang-Il ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 12, 2013, Pages 369~378
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.369
The Korean Won-Dollar exchange markets showed radical price movements in the late 1990s and 2008. Therefore it provides good sources for studying volatility phenomena. Using the GARCH option models, I analysed how the prices of foreign exchange options react volatilities in the foreign exchange spot prices. For this I compared the explanatory power of three option models(Black and Scholes, Duan, Heston and Nandi), using the Won-Dollar OTC option markets data from 2006 to 2013. I estimated the parameters using MLE and calculated the mean square pricing errors. According to the my empirical studies, the pricing errors of Duan, Black and Scholes models are 0.1%. And the pricing errors of the Heston and Nandi model is greatest among the three models. So I would like to recommend using Duan or Black and Scholes model for hedging the foreign exchange risks. Finally, the historical average of spot volatilities is about 14%, so trading the options around 5% may lead to serious losses to sellers.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 12, 2013, Pages 484~493
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.484
The Korean Government has provided public rental housing to stabilize civilian dwelling. However, unreliable management of public rental housing threatens the stability of residency. This study analyzes the default of public rental housing and the cause of default through a case study, which was intended for the residents in apartment complexes in danger of default. It also suggests countermeasures to cope with the problem of public rental housing. The results are listed as follows. First, rental housing apartments contribute a lot to the housing stability policy. On the other hand, the default of housing development, which is derived from the bankruptcy of housing management companies and the negligent control of government, brings about a serious problem for housing stability. Second, although the government has made a steady effort to solve this default problem, 9000 residents from 8 apartment complexes in Korea have experienced extreme unstable residency. Third, there are many causes for the default of public rental housing such as unqualified management companies and cursory monitoring by the government. The fundamental solution is to prevent public rental housing management companies from managing, or to build a new management system of public rental housing. To solve this problem, it's recommendable to delete the application term in the special law on the default of public rental housing so that it can be applied to all default apartments. If it is not possible to perform the policy for financial reasons, a new supply of civil housing provided by private companies needs to be re-examined completely or banned.

That is, with the emergence of a smart phone, various services including voice/video call, camera, receiving and sending of e-mail, and web browsing have been realized. However, the broader the scope of the use of a smart phone has become, the greater the need for companies to introduce an MDM solution for protecting important documents has become. However the MDM solution may have a problem in that all data such as contacts, pictures, and memos saved in the smart phone can be accessed unlimitedly. For this reason, there is a risk that unwanted violation of privacy may happen to smart phone users. This paper proposed a plan to protect a personal privacy file of smart phone users, which disables access by others except for related smart phone users by enabling a person in charge of security or an MDM manager in a company to have access only to the file which was allowed by smart phone users to be disclosed and by saving non-disclosed files in a virtual disk.

In recent years, IT companies offer various cloud services using hardware-based technologies or software-based technologies. User can access these cloud services without the constraints of location or devices. The technologies are virtualization, provisioning, and big data processing. However, security incidents are constantly occurring even with these techniques. Thus, many companies build and operate private cloud service to prevent the leak of critical data. If virtual environment are different according to user permission, many system are needed, and user should login several virtual system to execute an program. In this paper, I suggest the access control method for application software on virtual operating system using the Open Authentication protocol in the Cloud system.

Data types used for big-data analysis are very widely, such as news, blog, SNS, papers, patents, sensed data, and etc. Particularly, the utilization of web documents offering reliable data in real time is increasing gradually. And web crawlers that collect web documents automatically have grown in importance because big-data is being used in many different fields and web data are growing exponentially every year. However, existing web crawlers can't collect whole web documents in a web site because existing web crawlers collect web documents with only URLs included in web documents collected in some web sites. Also, existing web crawlers can collect web documents collected by other web crawlers already because information about web documents collected in each web crawler isn't efficiently managed between web crawlers. Therefore, this paper proposed a distributed web crawler. To resolve the problems of existing web crawler, the proposed web crawler collects web documents by RSS of each web site and Google search API. And the web crawler provides fast crawling performance by a client-server model based on RMI and NIO that minimize network traffic. Furthermore, the web crawler extracts core content from a web document by a keyword similarity comparison on tags included in a web documents. Finally, to verify the superiority of our web crawler, we compare our web crawler with existing web crawlers in various experiments.

Touchscreen is now installed in the majority of information devices thanks to the developed digital technology. In case of copiers, although touchscreen was installed earlier than any other information device, current user interface indicates that conventional methods have been maintained without any special re-validation. But, since common office devices such as copiers have brief usage time and clear, straightforward purposes, user experience between an user and device is perhaps an important element. Nevertheless, conservativeness of the market and the fact that users and buyers are not always the same are a stumbling block to actively changing UI. Recently, however, as hardware element, buttons, have moved to touchscreen mostly for smartphone, and common and public devices have seen rapid changes in UX, mostly with touchscreen, it has led to high demand for changes in UX of copiers. To remedy the issues with copiers, a literature review was conducted through existing studies and user evaluation based on user survey and prototype was done to examine the copier's UI elements and relevant changes in usage. In particular, a new direction for UX of copiers was suggested by analyzing the impact of differences between software button-oriented UI and hardware button-oriented UI on users and usability. This study findings could be used as basic data for improving the usability of future common devices including copier and UX design.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.604
Advanced research has often discussed that the melodrama genre reproduces typical female image more than any other genre in setting up female image. However, the advanced research is not based on quantitative methods, so it is hard to say that it has verified the conservativeness or typicality of the melodrama genre. This study applies quantitative research methods for the typicality of female image in the TV melodrama genre and intends to prove it through comparative analysis with the overall genre female image. According to the study result, the TV melodrama genre's shows less change than the overall genre female image. About their appearance, the overall genre female image indicates increase of non-femininity and activeness in their relationship with others; however, in the melodrama genre, women with typical feminine appearance and passive female image have been maintained from 1992 till 2012. In the system in which women shared men's capital in their lover or wife's status, their feminine and beautiful appearance was used as women's physical capital that enhances their possibility to be selected by men. Even in the present that women's economic power has been elevated, however, the melodrama genre still maintains typical female image distinctively. Typicality of such female image shown in the melodrama genre of which major viewers are women seems to represent contemporary women's ambivalent and contradictory desire.

The nostalgia marketing is active in various industrial areas. The nostalgic theme is emerging as a new trend in the film industry. This thesis attempts to investigate empirically the effect of nostalgia, the expectation and the evaluation on the intention to watch a movie. Nostalgia is a sentimental yearning for a former place or time. Expectation is classified into the utilitarian and the hedonic one; the evaluation into the subjective and the objective one. This thesis analyzed the effects of these five factors on the intention to watch a movie. The result shows that the older group felt more nostalgic than the younger; women more than men. Regarding the age, 10-20s are affected by the hedonic expectation, the subjective evaluation, and nostalgia, and over 30s are affected in order of the hedonic expectation and nostalgia. In terms of sex, men are affected most in order of the hedonic expectation, nostalgia and the subjective evaluation. Women are affected most in order of the hedonic expectation and the subjective evaluation. These results indicate that the marketing strategy needs to vary according to age and sex.

This study focuses on analyzing the trend of Korean movies and the issues caused by industrialization and the alternatives. The results are as follows: first, there does not exist distinctive genre movie as most of the movie producers concentrate on thoughtless genre fusion of movie, simply hoping for box office success. Second, Giant companies that has large amounts of money and distributors tend to monopolize production, distribution, and running of movie. Consequently, the development of diversity and artistry is absolutely impeded. Third, the structure of Korean movie industry make some well-known movie stars survive the film world and staff members and actors except them face economic difficulty. The solution plans for the problems mentioned above can be drawn like this; first, genre film with distinctive features should be developed. Second, the monopolistic structure of the screen should be changed. Legal organizations are required to redesign the system of unfair Korean film industry. Third, it is suggested that quantitative expansion of special theaters of diversity film be urgently needed. Fourth, appearance fees given to popular movie stars, actors, and staff members have to be provided in a balanced way. Fifth, the way for revitalization of film production should be found through the legal examination of fund for film development. Last but not least, the profit from the additional film market ought to be made.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.659
Through Korean traditional opera (changgeuk) Medea, composer Hwang Ho-jun showed eclectic music idiom by 1) writing music (jakchang) on manuscript paper and score, 2) introducing the "song-through" format, 3) including various solo melodies, 4) maximizing the effect created by a singing narrator (dochang) with the chorus master and a mixed chorus, 5) seeking an interplay of tension and release by using both discord and chord, 6) achieving the effect of kil-bakkum, the Korean traditional method of modulation, through modulation and borrowed chord of Western music. In Medea, instrumentalists adopted suseong-banju (Korean traditional accompaniment) which does not spoil the voice of singers. Hwang adopted song for the way how singers express various hidden sides of play among song, aniri (narration) and balim (gesture) and introduced the Sung-through format in which the play is comprised entirely of song. In Medea, oral sounds expressing wail, lament, cheer, sneer and scream are often used and various solo melodies appear that fit for personalities of characters, clearly showing what bunchang (singers' singing songs divided according to characters) is all about. And discord and chord are effectively used according to the development and mood of play. Hwang also achieved successfully the effect of kil-bakkum by abandoning the traditional modulation method and boldly introducing modulation and borrowed chord of Western music.

In recent, much attention has been paid to the educational serious games that provide both fun and learning effects. However, most educational games have been targeted at the infants and children, and it is still hard to use such games in higher education. On the contrary, this paper aims to develop an educational game for teaching mathematical programming to the undergraduates. It is well known that most puzzle games can be transformed into associated optimization problem and vice versa, and this paper proposes a simple educational game based on the subset sum problem. This game enables the users to play the puzzle and construct their own mathematical programming model for solving it. Moreover, the users are provided with appropriate instructions for modeling and their models are evaluated by using the data automatically generated. It is expected that the educational game in this paper will be helpful for teaching basic programming models to the students in industrial engineering or management science.

Following the social consensus for the need to stop sexual violence, the government has amended juvenile sex protection laws to impose fees on education practitioners who do not report sexual crimes against women, and amended the 'domestic violence prevention and victim protection laws' (2012. 2) so that the police can investigate on site. However, regardless of these wide efforts, the reality is that sexual crimes against the socially weak do not seem to be dwindling, raising concerns of the effectiveness of such amendments. Generally sexual crimes are hard to prove, and even if reports are filed, most cases are dropped with non-prosecution disposition. Victims are usually limited to women and children and this leads to secondary victims. As this thesis states, developed countries have a more systematic protection methods than our country. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis lies on the construction of public safety infrastructure for the protection of sexual abuse victims (enhancing safety protocols with related organizations, implementing a bill of rights for the victims, prevention-centered police education, amendments to current law) to limit human rights violations and criminal injuries.

This study examined influencing factors on the attitudes toward elders with a focus on empathy. Data were gathered from 291 nurses working at 14 geriatric hospitals in Kyunggi-Do, Chungchung-Do and Incheon. In analyzing the data, Pearson correlation coefficients, t-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis were adopted. Attitudes toward elders were neutral on the average; those nurses revealed both positive and negative aspects such as friendly, good, kind, conservative, sick and dependent. Of the four empathy scales, only empathic concern revealed significant correlation with the attitudes toward elders. Regression model included empathic concern and the nurses' characteristics. Empathic concern was significant in predicting the attitudes toward elders after controlling for the effects of the nurses' characteristics. Experience of voluntary work for elders was the only predictor among individual characteristics. Explanatory power of the model was 10.7%. We need to develop intervention programs raising empathy among nurses. The instrument measuring empathy needs to be examined.

The purpose of this study is to ensure safety by measuring External radiation dose ratio (ERDR) by traits of patients in many ways after administering radiopharmaceutical(
-FDG) for PET Torso scan, and to decrease ERDR of those to RI technologist, caretakers, and those who frequently exposed to radiation by arousing attention to radiation dose. Radiopharmaceutical was administered to 80 patients who conducted PET Torso from January to June, 2013. Radiation dose emitted from the patients was measured according to body shape(BMI), water hydration, height, amount of radiation administration. From the moment immediately after the radiopharmaceutical was administered, ERDR was measured by personal traits of patients. The radiation dose increased in proportion to the administered amount of the radiopharmaceutical, and there was no significant difference depending on the body shape of the patients. When water was supplied and the height was normal, the radiation dose was lower compared with the cases where water was not supplied and height was not normal. There is a need for making efforts to minimize the working time through sufficient education and mock training before those who RI technologist with sources of radiation for complying the radiation safety management rule. And they should minimize the ERDR by wearing a protective gear.

This study purposed to analyze the determinants of length of stay for patients having alzheimer dementia in geriatric hospitals. Sample data was collected from the National Patient Sample (NPS) produced by the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service (HIRA) in 2009. Total 538 alzheimer inpatients over 65 years were used in the analysis. Patients were classified into 5 risk groups to represent the case-mix differences of patients. Organizational characteristics of geriatric hospitals such as number of beds, doctors, and nurses were included in the analysis model. In multivariate regression analysis, hospital variables were not statistically significant in explaining the length of stay. Two risk group were statistically significant in analysis, However, their signs of relationship with the dependent variable were opposite to the expectations. These results suggest that the characteristics of patients and hospitals did not have impacts on the length of stay. There will be needs to test the effects of other factor such as social needs which represents the socio-economic status of the family for the patients.

The construction field is implementing cost savings and business process improvements by adopting and applying various information technologies to secure the construction sector's technological competitiveness amid the economic recessions inside and outside South Korea. Therefore, affiliated agencies of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport are reinforcing transparency and efficiency in construction project management through informatization. These agencies are also performing construction project management and maintenance and management businesses by constructing various information systems to create higher added values and secure competitiveness. However, as the application of the constructed information system is limited to a portion of public construction projects, it is not yet possible to understand the whole status of the national infrastructures. Therefore, this paper aims to propose a construction information service plan, its future promotion method and procedure of application on the entire national infrastructures. This plan would be carried out by collecting, linking and fabricating the main construction information from the information systems of the affiliated agencies around the construction project information system(Construction CALS System) being applied at the organizations under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. Such a plan is expected to facilitate effective project management and maintenance of public construction projects and serve as a useful tool for major decision making endeavors such as future policy planning. The proposed plan is also expected to facilitate the management and application of construction information from the construction up to the maintenance management of the national infrastructures.

This study aims to evaluate the effect on the academic achievement and satisfaction of the learner's prior knowledge level and segmenting time of video lectures in an learning environment using smartphones. Depending on the level of prior knowledge, learners were divided into two groups of the upper 35% and the lower 35%. Each group was offered video lectures by a 5-min, 10-min, 15-min, and 20-min length. As a result, a high level of prior knowledge only had a positive effect on the academic achievement. With respect to the segmentation time of video lectures, 10-min, 15-min lectures were effective to the academic achievement and 15-min, 20-min lectures influenced positively the learners' satisfaction. Moreover, the interaction between the level of learners' prior knowledge and the segmentation time of video lectures only had an impact on their academic achievement. The results of the simple effect analysis conducted to examine the effect of interaction carefully show that 15-min, 20-min video lectures are more effective for the upper 35% in prior knowledge and 10-min ones are better for its' lower 35%. In a nutshell, these findings suggest that the high-prior knowledge groups could be provided with a longer video lectures, and furthermore, 5-min video lectures are not adequate in a mobile learning environment with smartphones.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.12.1069
The paper is about teaching culture in a language learning. There are many teachers who are afraid of teaching foreign language with culture. They are delighted to teach politics, economics, history, art and literature as objective culture. But they are hesitant to teach subjective culture which is connected with a communication competency. The paper suggests three stages to instruct culture in a schoolroom. The first stage, it is growing out of the self-centered view. The second step, be developing self-consciousness through comparing mother culture with target culture. The last stage, it has to response to appropriately target culture. The teaching materials for the model suggested are two movies. Because the cultural aspects in the moves are subjective culture, so it has something in common with target cultural situations in a language learning. This method which is teaching culture in a the language learning has the advantage of being easy to teachers and learners. Most students like to watch a movie. The teaching material is The Chronicles of Narnia : The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe와 Guess Who?. I hope that this suggestion for cultural teaching is helpful for understanding each other.
