Modified Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient for Korean Children`s Speech Recognition
Yoo, Jae-Kwon ; Lee, Kyoung-Mi ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 3, 2013, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.001
This paper proposes a new feature extraction algorithm to improve children`s speech recognition in Korean. The proposed feature extraction algorithm combines three methods. The first method is on the vocal tract length normalization to compensate acoustic features because the vocal tract length in children is shorter than in adults. The second method is to use the uniform bandwidth because children`s voice is centered on high spectral regions. Finally, the proposed algorithm uses a smoothing filter for a robust speech recognizer in real environments. This paper shows the new feature extraction algorithm improves the children`s speech recognition performance.
Analysis of Impact of Correlation Between Hardware Configuration and Branch Handling Methods Executing General Purpose Applications
Choi, Hong Jun ; Kim, Cheol Hong ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 3, 2013, Pages 9~21
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.009
Due to increased computing power and flexibility of GPU, recent GPUs execute general purpose parallel applications as well as graphics applications. Programmers can use GPGPU by using the APIs from GPU vendors. Unfortunately, computational resources of GPU are not fully utilized when executing general purpose applications because of frequent branch instructions. To handle the branch problem, several warp formations have been proposed. Intuitively, we expect that the warp formations providing higher computational resource utilization show higher performance. Contrary to our expectations, according to simulation results, the performance of the warp formation providing better utilization is lower than that of the warp formation providing worse utilization. This is because warp formation providing high utilization causes serious memory bottleneck due to increased memory request. Therefore, warp formation providing high computation utilization cannot guarantee high performance without proper hardware resources. For this reason, we will analyze the correlation between hardware configuration and warp formation. Our simulation results present the guideline to solve the underutilization problem due to branch instructions when designing recent GPU.

For the case of test equipments requiring data accuracy, real-time is highly required in acceptance test for performance evaluation of developed weapons. For convenience` sake, test equipments are usually developed using Windows. However Windows does not support real-time in itself. Thus, in this paper, so as to reduce development time and expenses, we design and implement an integrated middleware for real-time device drivers using RTiK-MP. Using DLL, we also support user API`s for the sake of development convenience without details of the complex RTiK-MP structure. We evaluate the performance of the proposed integrated middleware using the RDTSC command which returns the number of CPU clock ticks. The evaluation results show that it operates correctly within error ranges in the periods of 1ms and 4ms for the cases of TCP/IP and RS-232, respectively.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.032
As the smartphone market grows, the needs for its new business model are also increased. However, most previous researches on smartphone applications focused on Technology Acceptance Model(TAM) and Rogers` Diffusion of Innovation Theory so that there was lack of researches on characteristics for actual smartphone users. In this research, we divided the smartphone applications into five category functions (Call & Text/Music & Video/Information Search/Game/Social Network Service (SNS)). We analyzed characteristic differences of users who used the each application category and found that the differences were statistically significant in both demographic and smartphone usage characteristics (frequency of downloading applications, and download experience of paid applications). Additionally, the smartphone usage characteristic is closely related to the usage duration. The representative result is that the characteristics of people used Music & Video function actively were women in their 20s who downloaded applications more than three times per week, and had a download experience of paid applications. It is positive result for players in the application markets, because it means the users are willing to pay for downloading the paid applications. However, large companies already occupied most of the market share in music applications so that small and medium-sized players should develop an innovative and distinguishable business model in order to success. We believe this research result would provide significant implications for the players in planning the successful business model and developing an user-specific application product.

This study is on Hollywood`s latest romantic comedy movie
, attempted to identify whether nationality or gender difference of the movie audience is affecting on their acceptance to the genre characteristics of Hollywood`s romantic comedy. Most of Hollywood`s romantic comedy movies are centered on attraction of female and male actors and its` formulated plot (boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-gets-girl structure). Although the movie
is following the formulated romantic comedy plot, it shows a variation from the typical romantic comedy genre. In this thesis, based on audience research data, statistics and interrelationship analysis on audience value orientation, we elucidate how Korean and American, Female and Male movie audience have different preference to actors and characters in the movie
and representation of archetypal Hollywood romantic comedy happy ending such as propose and wedding scenes.
`s Emotional Ambivalence
Kim, Guyl-Hun ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 3, 2013, Pages 65~75
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.065
Movie captured audience`s whole sense organs to the screen which is made up of visual story-telling decorated by color, sound, and smell. The audience rediscovered native emotions(pleasure, fear, terror) suppressed and left in the compressed world of space and time, that is to say a movie world separated from the real world, by being immersed in the movie story. This study revealed audience`s feelings of pleasure and fear by analyzing the movie
. First of all, the pleasure would be discussed in terms of Nietzsche`s "the will to power." Nietzsche defined something to breathe, move, and will as being alive, and he insisted that its power to life is `the will to power.` Human beings wish to have power and want to increase it: pleasure, the real motivation of human behaviors and phenomena. The movie
well revealed the pleasure by showing nonperson`s challenge and victory against social rulers. Second, the fear and terror of the audience will be discussed in terms of
in Lacan`s psychoanalysis. Lacan extended Freud`s id, ego, and superego into the worlds of reality, imagine, and symbol, and suggested a father in symbol world among those worlds. He suggested
as a basic and connecting instrument of the socialization just like Signifi
and Signifiant, Saussure` basic linguistic structure in "Cours de lingustique g
rale"(1916). Because father is the symbol and the metaphor of law, the absence of him and resistance against him means obstacles of social stabilization. Finally this paper will also discuss that the fear from the absence of law and the pleasure provoked by self-preserving instincts, that is to say natural feelings, are connected to values of progressivism and conservatism.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.076
This study examined users` acceptance process with the QR code as an interactive marketing communications tool. We collected total 200 survey data and 181 questionnaires among them were used for the analysis during for five days, from 9 to 13 in May 2011. The first research question of this study examined the relationship among subjective norms, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitudes, and intention to use through the structural equation modeling analysis. The result of the first research showed that subjective norms about the use of QR code affect intention to use via perceived usefulness, and also directly influence on it. The perceived usefulness has the biggest impact on the intention to use. The research question 2 was to look at the condition effect with the presence of experience. As the analysis result of the second research question, the relationships between subjective norms and perceived usefulness are not different whether or not groups experience QR code, and both groups appeared to have had significant impact. Whereas the relationship between subjective norms and intention to use showed a significant influence on the population that has the experience with the QR code. In order to encourage use of the QR code, therefore, we will need to highly impress on users subjective norms which are ambient pressure on the use of QR code and positively offer marketing strategy which gives users the opportunities to get experience with the QR code.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of line dance programme on the balance ability during walking to reveal the exercise intervention for fall prevention. A 12-week line dance programme was applied to 18 elderly females who aged more than 65 years in the community. Balance ability during walking was evaluated by the range of center of pressure(cop), the velocity of cop, and free torque that calculated on the basis of ground reaction force data. The range and velocity of cop in the anterio-posterior were significantly reduced after performing(p<.01, p<.05, respectively), but change in those of cop in the medio-lateral and free torque were not found. It was demonstrates that 12-week line dance programme allows more effective in anterio-posterior stability of walking. It was suggested that the effect of fall prevention exercise should be studied more associate with fall frequency as future study.
Aesthetic Implications of the Algorithm Applied to New Media Art Works : A Focus on Live Coding
Oh, Junho ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 3, 2013, Pages 119~130
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.119
This paper researches the algorithm, whose materiality and expressiveness can be obtained through live coding. Live coding is an improvised genre of music that generates sounds while writing code in real time and projecting it onto a screen. Previous studies of live coding have focused on the development environment to support live coding performance effectively. However, this study examines the aesthetic attitude immanent in the realization of the algorithm through analyzing mostly used languages such as ChucK, Impromtu, and the visualization of live code and cases of "aa-cell" and "slub" performance. The aesthetic attitudes of live coding performance can be divided into algebraic and geometric attitudes. Algebraic attitudes underline the temporal development of concepts; geometric attitudes highlight the materialization of the spatial structure of concepts through image schemas. Such a difference echoes the tension between conception and materiality, which appears in both conceptual and concrete poetry. The linguistic question of whether conception or materiality is more greatly emphasized defines the expressiveness of the algorithm.
Message Attributes, Consequences, and Values in Retweet Behavior : Based on Laddering Method
Kim, Hyo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 3, 2013, Pages 131~140
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.131
Assuming that roles of traditional mass media are also shown in Twitter services, the study aims at exploring Twitter users` motives and rationales in re-tweet behavior. Based on the laddering interview method, the study gathers data on (1) message attributes (what kinds of messages do you re-tweet?); (2) consequences (what kinds of consequences are you expecting when you re-tweet?); and (3) values (what are the ultimate values in your re-tweet behavior?). The most repetitive value occurring in participants` retweet was feeling "sympathy" and "sharing" rationales. For such rationales, participants oftentimes utilize messages with "agenda" and "information" that are relative to themselves. Messages with "helping" to help others also frequently showed up in their retweet rationales. Known as liberalists` rationales, "communal consciousness", and "calling for others` action" are also shown, but not as frequent as "feeling sympathy and sharing. A total of 48 items from the analyses were used in a subsequent study as variables to identify factors (dimensions) of retweet motivation.

Kim, Sang-Woon ; Jo, Hyun-Bin ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 3, 2013, Pages 141~151
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.141
With the spread of Personal Computers(PC) in the 1980`s, many people started to deal businesses with PC. From late 1990`s, the Internet age with PC have started and many people have showed keen interest in cyber-space and now they are utilizing it. Since 2000`s the use of cyber-space have skyrocketed and it caused significant changes to humans` life. There was a huge prosperity to us but the new kind of crime, cyber-crime, was raised. Unlike past physical type of crimes, those cyber-crimes take place in the cyber-space and they have special features of non-facing, anonymity, specialty, technologic, repetition, continuation. Those cyber-crimes are continually growing since 2003 and in 2010 it almost doubled compared to 2003. General cyber-crimes like phishing-scam pornography circulation was most of them and notably perpetrators of them are younger generation. Recently cyber-crimes are showing the trend of advancing more and more and cyber-bullying, fraud like phishing scam are on the rise. The police are responding by making `Cyber Terror Response Center`, but it does not work effectively with the problems of breakup of prevention and investigation unit, procedure of investigation and the system itself. So, I suggest practical use of private security to remedy our police`s weakness and to prevent cyber-crimes. Preventing solutions of cyber-crime with private security are physical defense of large-scale servers and vital computers, building of Back-up system to prevent vital data loss, and building of cyber-crime preventing system combining software and hardware.
Causal Relationship between Structural Characteristics of Metropolitan Neighborhoods and Homicide
Cheong, Jinseong ; Kang, Wook ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 3, 2013, Pages 152~161
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.152
This study attempted to test the causal effect of structural characteristics of metropolitan neighborhoods on crime, based on the ecological model of crime explanation. To this end, a Negative Binomial Regression analysis was performed for Seoul`s 424 Dong Districts. Results showed that the incidence of homicide increases as much as the scales of economic disadvantage, family disruption, and commercial land use go worse. It suggested that family integrity is one of the most strong and consistent factors that could deter crime in neighborhood`s contexts. Economic disadvantage and commercial land use were also critical targets as crime-generating factors. Reasoning with the results of past studies implied that neighborhood-specific approaches need to be developed for effective crime prevention. Although a few limitations could raise a caveat against such interpretation of the results, the value of this research would not be simply denied as the first attempt to utilize all Dong districts of Seoul. It is expected that this study contributes to activating Dong level research and developing effective crime control policy.

The patients who had been operated total mastectomy are different from general women in their breasts thickness due to breast surgery. As a result, digital chest image from total mastectomy patients will be different attenuation. The main objective for this study is to show that a proper Ion chamber standard combination measuring MTF which is objective basis for Digital image, when be x-ray for total mastectomy patient. We have designed the unique number that shown Left is 1, Right is 2, Center is 3 and have put the edge phantom on detector ion chamber. Lastly, we have obtained experiment images. The evaluations of all image quality have measured by 50% MTF of spatial resolution and absorption dose using Matlab(R2007a). The result showed that average exposure condition, MTF value, absorption dose for 1+3 and 2+3 combinations were 2.745 mAs, 1.925 lp/mm, 0.688 mGy. Consequently, that showed high MTF, DQE and low dose than other combinations. Therefore, a proper changes of ion chambers are able to improve image quality and to reduce radiation exposure when be X-ray for total mastectomy patients. Also, it will be possible to standard for application chamber combination and utilization on clinical detection.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.211
A body dysmorphic disorder refers to a state that individuals whose external appearance is normal consider their appearance to be meta-morphosed, or think there`s something wrong with it, or view a trifle deficiency as severely disfigured. The purpose of this study was to examine the body dysmorphic disorder and depression of health-related and health-unrelated majors in an effort to compare the two groups. And it`s also meant to investigate the relationship between body dysmorphic disorder and depression. The subjects in this study were 400 students at K college located in Gangwon Province. Out of them, the major of the 200 students belonged to the health science track, and that of the 200 students didn`t. After a self-administered survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 319 respondents were analyzed. As a result, there appeared no differences between the health-related majors and the health-unrelated majors in body dysmorphic disorder. Although there might be various factors to concern body dysmorphic disorder, both groups found themselves to suffer from more depression when they had a severer body dysmorphic disorder, and their body dysmorphic disorder exerted a statistically significant influence on their self-rated depression. Therefore the careful management of body dysmorphic disorder was required, and it`s especially needed to make research in that of health-related majors. At the same time, more detailed clinical research efforts should be directed into body dysmorphic disorder and self-rated depression.

To develop a technique classifying patients based on computerized clinical data followed by validity verification by comparing with nurse`s examination. Class scores were determined by nurses for a day on 348 resident patients in 7 wards of a general hospital according to KPCS-1. The class scores were simultaneously evaluated by reviewing the computerized clinical data acquired from the hospital management information system. These two class scores were both significantly different among different departments as well as disease patterns. Intraclass correlation analysis resulted a very high correlation coefficient of 0.96(p<0.01) between the two scoring methods, but the clinical data scores were somewhat higher. An automated patient classification system seemed possible to be developed in future with further enhancement of the present results based on computerized clinical data without manual scoring, which can be applied for performance evaluation as well as workforce planning.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.307
This study aims to investigate the research equipment establishing relationship by looking at research equipment information transfer that follows the network`s structural and positional characteristics and the research institute`s responsibilities to increase the possibility of research equipment usage by using the SNA(Social Network Analysis) method. Consequently, with the given structural characteristics of research institute, it can be concluded that because of its low density, it appears to be difficult to transfer research equipment information within the network. Government-funded research institutes that can effectively deliver research equipment information within the network system through comparison positional characteristics are ETRI, KITECH, KRICT, Sungkyungwan University, and Kyungbook National University. In addition, a virtualization node not only invigorates the network system but also acts as an intermediary factor to effectively deliver research equipment information. As results, there can be three conceivable alternatives to increase the possibility of research equipment usage. Those includes: 1. policy to encourage relationship building among research institutes 2. utilizing suitable institutes for effective delivery of research equipment information and lastly, 3. establishing a virtual intermediary institute for information sharing and utilization of isolated institutes` research equipments.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 3, 2013, Pages 370~380
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.370
The research is basically designed to reveal a revisiting behavior for Chung Nam Dae which is inherently characterized sightseeing site. Distributional lag model is tentatively employed to analyze economic factors such as entrance fee and a different level of income. Empirical findings investigate that the revisiting behavior that is associated with a long run effect is more closely connected to the level of national income, but not the level of incomes in Chung Cheong region and Chung Buk province as well. As far as revisiting intention concerns, the entrance fee tends to affect to it by a shorter distributional lag, but the level of income affects to it by way of a pretty much longer distributional lags. To this end, perceived value for Chung Nam Dae should be exposed in order to induce a re-visitor. Such a goal could be attainable by taking care of its system for entrance fee, expanding facilities, re-branding, service improvement, and developing useful programs. Also, setting up an inter-connected networking system with a sightseeing site around is highly recommended.

A traditional house or a traditional village experience has been on the rise as a form of experiential cultural tourism. But the Oeam folk village, a experiential cultural tourist destination representing Chungcheng-do seems to confront the stagnancy in the part of growth. It has to grow in two sides of quantity and quality. On the ground of this critical mind, 3 assumptions were established after analyzing previous studies. Additionally, market segmentation using satisfaction factors was practiced. In order to verify assumptions, A questionnaire was made and a survey was practiced. Out of statistic analyses, cluster analysis was practiced to do market segmentation targeting people who visit Oeam folk village and regression analysis to verify established assumptions. The assumption 1 was adopted that satisfaction factors influence whole satisfaction. The assumption 2 was partly adopted that satisfaction factors(sightseeing efficiency, sightseeing convenience, traditional house and experience factor) except food and souvenir factor influence behavior intention. The assumption 3 was adopted that whole satisfaction influences behavior intention. These were similar with the results of previous studies. As the result of cluster analysis to confirm the difference of demographic characteristics according to the market, 2 clusters was classified and classified clusters showed the difference of demographic characteristics.

With the increase of the frequency in large-scale floods and natural disasters, the demands for highly accurate numerical river models are also rapidly growing. Generally, flows in rivers are modeled with previously developed and well-established numerical models based on shallow water equations. However, the so-far-developed models reveal a lot of limitations in the analysis of discontinuous flow or flow which needs accurate modeling. In this study, the numerical shallow water model based on the discontinuous Galerkin method was applied to the simulation of one-dimensional transcritical flow, including dam break flows and a flow over a hump. The favorable agreement was observed between numerical solutions and analytical solutions.
Alternative to Improve the Lighting of Crosswalk on Rural Highways
Lee, Suk-Ki ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 3, 2013, Pages 435~443
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.435
While rural highways carry on lower traffic volumes, the deviations of running speeds between vehicles appear to be higher on rural highways than urban highways. The speed characteristic of rural highways is adding to pedestrian-related accidents which occur on a crosswalk with poor sight distance due to the limits of car headlights and lighting. Specially, the aged was mostly occupied in nighttime-related accidents on crosswalks, and pedestrians crossing on the far side of approaching vehicles appear to have the probability of fatality higher than the near side. An alternative is needed to resolve the compounded accidents, and then this study is to establish a new approach to an optimum lighting environment on a crosswalk to improve pedestrian safety. This study was conducted by a survey and a field study on the lighting of existing crosswalks. The field study shows that the existing lighting has the problem of wasting energy and impeding walking due to glare. The survey shows that nighttime sight distance on a crosswalk is required to improve and that road users prefer to be brighter pedestrian waiting space together with the crosswalk. Thus, a lighting environment that is not too bright and illuminates the crosswalk and the pedestrian waiting space is needed to implement.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 3, 2013, Pages 502~510
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.502
The purpose of this paper investigate the general definition of Tense and the concepts about Aspect. I consider the correlation between the lexical and the grammatical aspect. Tense is an inflection type of a verb that indicates the time, tense is grammatical categories. Tense has the current tense and the past tense in English. If we recognize aspect as a grammatical category, that the subject of in description will be confined to the grammatical expression. In contrast, when considered as a category of meaning, lexical and grammatical representation is the expression target. Therefore, aspect is stated as a grammatical category. Specially, the aspect of English, there is only a progressive tense and perfect tense. In this case, the progressive aspect is progressive tense and the perfect aspect is perfect tense. Chapter 2, I investigate the definition of the tense of many scholars and define the usage of each tense. In Chapter 3, I exhibit the definition of the Aspect. Aspect is grammatical and semantic one. Tense and Aspect is a simple grammar category, but they have a various spectrum. Therefore, As the definition of the Tense and Aspect becomes clear it will be helpful to students who are received English education. In addition, the definition about tense and aspect needs in variety of areas, more research is needed.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.03.511
The purpose of this paper is to examine how European textbooks reflect Seoul nowadays. The study focuses on the trend of textbooks in main European countries, such as England, France, Spain, Italy, and Germany. They tend to describe Seoul as one of the mega cities with urban problems, and introduces the city as an economic center which is responsible for interaction with other mega cities. Besides, Seoul is also described as less competitive city compared to others, and its history and cultural resources are not paid attention. Despite everything, it is fortunate that there are very few errors in descriptions of Seoul. In future I expect that descriptions of Seoul in European textbooks are enhanced in not only economic aspects of Seoul but also historic and cultural aspects of Seoul and then European textbooks get more reliable contents to inform Korea.
