Auditory Interaction Design By Impact Sound Synthesis for Virtual Environment
Nam, Yang-Hee ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.001
Focused on the fact that sound is one of the important sensory cues delivering situations such as impact, this paper proposes an auditory interaction design approach for virtual environment. Based on a few sampling of basic material sound for various materials such as steel, rubber, and glass, the proposed method enables design transformations of the basic sound by allowing modification of mode gains that characterize natural sound for the material. In real-time virtual environment, it also provides simulation of modified sound according to the change of impact situation's perceptual properties such as colliding objects' size, hardness, contacting area, and speed. The test results on cognition experiment for discriminating objects' materials and impact situation by sound showed the feasibility of proposed auditory interaction design method.

Sim, Gab-Sig ; Jang, Jae-Hyuk ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 19~27
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.019
This paper implements the standby power control system composed of a master device and slave devices. The standby power is managed by cutting power supply after controlling the relay of a slave device based on the authentication of master device's RFID card. RFID interface and wireless communication module are embedded in a master device, and one master device is linked with many slave devices in wireless. Each slave device executes the operation needed in power control independently. We implements the function of manual power on/off system in a slave device, and the function of user ID enrollment by switch manipulation in a master device. Also this system can communicate bidirectionally in wireless and runs on TinyOS. The result of experiment shows that the user authentication is executed in a master device and this authenticated information is transmitted to a slave device in wireless, and standby power is cutted by controlling the relay of a slave device. Installing this system in a building or an office, we can expect energy saving.
Reliability Evaluation Method Based on Spatio-Temporal Statistical Characteristics for Motion Compensated Interpolated Frame
Kim, Jin-Soo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 28~36
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.028
Motion-compensated frame interpolation (MCFI) techniques in video signal processing have many application areas. Frame rate up-conversion (FRUC) or distributed video coding (DVC) technique needs an effective MCFI algorithm. For these applications, it is necessary to develop an effective post-processing technique to improve visual qualities or to reduce virtual channel noises, resulting in the reduced channel bit rate. This paper proposes a reliability evaluation method based on spatio-temporal characteristics for motion-compensated interpolated blocks. The proposed algorithm investigates the temporal matching characteristics for current frame and then is designed in such a way that it can measure temporal characteristics as well as the spatial ones. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed method outperforms the conventional temporal matching method.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 48~57
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.048
Smartphones provide users with environment for communication and sharing information and at the same time play an important role of mobile technology and mobile art development. Smartphone technology-related researches are being accelerated especially with the advent of mobile Augmented Reality(AR) age, but the studies on user participation that is essential for AR content industry were insufficient. In that regard, the assistance from mobile art area that has already developed these characteristics is essential. Thus, this article is to classify mobile art that has not been studied a lot domestically into feature phone usage and smartphone usage and to analyze each example case with the three most used methods. The usage of feature phones which use the sound and images of mobile devices can be divided into three: installation and performing methods, single channel video art method and five senses communication method. On the other hand, the usage of smartphones that use sensors, cameras, GPS and AR can be divided into location-based AR, marker-based AR and markerless AR. Also, as a result of examining mobile AR content utilization technology by industries, combined methods are utilized; tourism and game-related industries use location-based AR, education and medicine-related industries use marker-based AR, and shopping-related industries use markerless AR. The development of AR content industry is expected to be accelerated with mobile art that makes use of combined technology method and constant communication method through active participation of users. The future development direction of mobile AR industry is predicted to have minimized HMD, integration of hologram technology and artificial intelligence and make the most of big data and social network so that we could overcome the technological limitation of AR.

: Based on Enneargram Personality Types Theory
Yang, Se-Hyeok ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 58~70
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.058
This study focuses on the fact that intrinsic motivation which becomes the force to promote narrative is reinforced as a polyphonic structure through the psychodynamics of fear and desire internalized in a character, and from this perspective, it analyzes character rising strategies shown in Pixar's movie,
. To verify fear and desire of a character, this study uses Enneagram personality types theory as the frame of analysis and reaches the following conclusions: (1) The main character, Carl's emotion originated from fear and desire was metaphorized as Muntz and Russell each, so the inside psychodynamics and the outer event visualizing it are set as contrapuntal composition. (2) However, inversely to the enhancement of Carl's polyphonicity, that excellent strategy works as the limit that restricts the psychodynamics of Muntz and Russell to a certain range. Lastly, it is expected that this study will be suggested as a sort of methodology about character rising strategies as turned into the database to which the result of follow-up research will be added, too.
Commercial Strategy and Reproduction of Social Order on Punch -A Study on Bourdieu's Theory-
Ghe, Woon-Gyoung ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 71~81
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.071
Punch awakens the audience of necessity of social change related to the poverty and prejudice toward the underprivileged. However Bourdieu claims individuals such as Dong-Ju Lee can not change existing dominant order even if they struggle for social change. In particular, laughter effect and romantic gaze as a commercial strategy on Punch become mechanism for maintaining the symbolic violence. And this is soon to be recognized as legitimate victims of violence themselves, as Bourdieu has argued that maintaining social order and reproduction by collusion are possible.
Value Chain Model to Stabilize which Low-budget Digital Film Production System
Kim, Jin-Wook ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 82~89
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.082
The phase in digital technology expedited low-budget digital film productions in the Korean film industry; hence the international film festivals circuit became the launching pad for Korean directors as they built their reputation and careers around the critical acclaim. Pieta (Kim Ki-Duk)'s Claim on Golden Lion prize at the Venice Film Festival in 2012 would be one of the splendid achievements - the festival is considered to be one of the top the international film festival. However, the increased volume of the low-budget digital film productions are not necessarily proportional to the growth in the quality of the productions. The drawbacks to the production system appeared to be the underlying cause. In attempt to approach the issue, this article explores the production system from 2000 until now. It is illustrated that the value chain model has been transformed from general ones into vertical & horizontal integrated ones. A notable example of successful indie bands-around Hongik university area-, as well the analysis on the low-budget hit productions, especially from the mid-2000's, are introduced as the case studies. The strategies that led the success, such as subsidies policy, the tax benefits on investment firms and production companies, and the aid in international film festival submissions on low-budget digital film productions, are thus examined with further suggestions.

One of the words that describe unique features of human beings is "Homo Ludens (Playing Man)". As humans enjoy abundant and prosperous lives and the quality of life is further improved, play is increasingly becoming a central value of human life. As part of play, ocean leisure is getting popular these days, and in turn demands for ocean leisure-related products in Korea, most of which are dependent on foreign markets, are growing. Therefore, it is required that local companies are quick to turn their eyes on the fast developing market. This research aims to help develop a design concept for bodyboard, more suitable for the domestic market, by analyzing products and reflecting customers' needs. The findings of this study are as follows: first, it is desirable that the target of bodyboard in domestic market is young people aged between 14 and 29 and its price ranges from 40,000 to 100,000 won; second, a tube-type bodyboard is appropriate for beaches in Korea mostly with small and gentle waves, as also shown in a survey that over 65% of those surveyed prefer a tube-type bodyboard, and lastly, the CMFF (Color, Material, Form, and Function) strategy was newly developed in this study in order to create new concept bodyboards.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 159~169
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.159
As a part of public design, private signboard should be designed to help convenience of people with the consideration of urban landscape simultaneously; however, the lack of legislated design regulations and ignorance of managing entities have resulted in uncontrolled installation of private signboards, ruining city view and causing confusion in delivering information. To appease this problem, each provincial city including Seoul is carrying out an improvement project based on its own sign management guideline. Therefore, it is timely needed to study the design satisfaction on the changed (or changing) private boards from the viewpoints of information delivery and visual environment. In this study, we investigated the design satisfaction of private signboards in Daejeon city (where very recently the improvement project has been undergoing based on its design guideline) in terms of visual factors, information delivery, and city landscape. We note that our study has its own significance to provide an empirical research on the design satisfaction of private signboards, which shows that people are mostly satisfied with the new design from aspects of visual factors, information delivery, and city landscape.

Shin, Kye-Hwa ; Kim, Hwa-Rye ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 170~182
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.170
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of the leadership style of a CEO of a public performing arts theater to the quality management and business performance, with a focus on the differences by the leadership styles. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with the CEO of 165 public performing arts theaters in country, from whom 98 valid replies were collected for analysis and further validation of hypothesis of this study. The validation revealed that, first, the task oriented and change oriented leadership provided positive influences to the quality management activities, while relations oriented leadership failed to do so. Secondly, the quality management activities by the CEOs of the public performing arts theaters had positive correlations with the financial performance and market performance, which are part of the business performance indices of a performance art center. Thirdly, while the task oriented and change oriented leadership styles did have influences over the business performance; it was revealed that the quality management activities wielded only indirect influence toward such elements. The relations oriented leadership style appeared to fail to influence with significance. Such results as above show that only the task oriented and change oriented leadership style of a CEO in a public performing arts theater had positive influences over the business performance, with an implication that the CEOs of such facilities shall keep this in mind and exercise such leadership styles. In addition, another implication of this study was that it is also important to give efforts to the quality management activities, which turned out to influence the business performance significantly. The implication of this study is that the study was conducted with direct participation by the CEOs themselves of public performing arts theaters in country and an examination was made to see the differences by leadership styles.

Through this series of process we developed a new CT classification system applied particularity of culture contents. The suggested CT classification system can embrace all kind of technologies related to all steps of value chain-planning, manufacturing/production, distribution, service- of culture contents. And it has significance having flexibility for government investigation and applying the law and more realistic for industrial site by restructuring of middle classification level.
The Conjoint Analysis of Users' Preference on the VODs of the Newly-released Movies
Yim, Jungsu ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 191~198
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.191
This study examined the importance of independent variables that affect users' preference on the VODs of the newly-released movies by using the conjoint analysis. The results demonstrated that 'price(44.6%)' is the most important variable, which is followed by 'device(24.5%)', 'recency(18.0%)', 'producing country(12.9%)'. Respondents obtained the relatively high utility from watching the VOD of a Korean movie currently on screen in 3,000 wons. A television set was the most preferable device for watching VODs. The traditional windowing strategy in the media content market has been recently challenged by the new trend that the holdback period between market windows is ignored and the high-priced content is found in the second window. Nevertheless, this study demonstrated that users of the VODs of the newly-released movies are still very sensitive to the price and consider 'the recency' to be relatively less important than 'price'.
Research on Place Branding Evaluation based on Place Value
Uhr, Jeong-Yeun ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 199~209
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.199
The purpose of this research is to develop elements of place branding and correspondent evaluation indicators for place brand strategy making, analysis and its evaluation. First, I criticise that previous research employed unclear and limited evaluation elements. I then suggest an plausible evaluation system and evaluation indicators through a theoretical proof for place branding under the concept of place-based value. Interviews with specialists for case evaluations were carried out in an effort to approve the plausibility of this suggested evaluation system. As an extension, a direction is suggested for a general and effective place branding that would satisfy a diversity of places, which could hopefully contributes for the development of future city brand and marketing evaluation criteria. Creating a specialized place brand requires precise understanding and evaluation on the place characteristics that should directly contribute to the strategy making based on the situatedness suggested by the place which meets an appropriate place branding category. In addition, a successful place branding requires active and effective communication among the participating members of interest and sustainable maintenance systems.

Injunctive Effect of Provisional Seizure and Legal Superficies according to the Custom -Supreme Court Decision 2010Da52140 delivered on October 18, 2012-
Chung, Ku-Tae ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 223~233
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.223
As the injunctive effect on the real estate gets announced in public once the seizure register gets exercised in terms of auction and the action of disposal by the real estate owner afterwards becomes nullified in the relationship with a seizure creditor or a successful bidder, the register performed by the cause of disposal action that cannot confront with the seizure or provisional seizure, becomes cancelled in virtue of a registration officer's office. Accordingly, in case of being a singular successor who relatively loses property in a relationship toward the successful bidder due to the injunctive effect of provisional seizure, the identity with building owner and land owner as the precondition of establishing legal superficies according to the custom must be decided based on the time of provisional seizure. The Supreme Court Decision 2010Da52140 delivered on October 18, 2012 has great significance from the fact that it has settled inconsistency in existing precedent cases with such purpose.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.234
In 2007, Long-Term Care Insurance Law was enacted to share the family burden of caring for the elderly who are unable to perform every day living activities due to their old age and chronic diseases such as senile dementia, diabetes mellitus, stroke and more. Backed by this law, since 2008, care workers have been sent to the elderly care centers or each elder's home to help them not only with their recovery from illnesses, but also with general activities from dressing, eating, bathing, walking even to toileting. However, according to the recently released survey by National Human Rights Commission, it has been found that the caring workers are in a very poor working condition including low income, abused blanket wage system, shortage of welfare services, extra works and even sexual harrassment. It is becoming an important issue due to fast-ageing population, the fact that the care workers have had experiences of violation in their right of labor while they are at work needs to be carefully treated. In that sense, this article presents some difficulties the caring workers face and proposes effective ways to solve these problems through the perspective of human rights and human labor rights based on the report written by National Human Rights Commission. In short, for this law to function properly and to boost the worker's capability of providing better services to beneficiaries, followings can be good answers - enhanced management and supervision on caring plans and care centers, providing immediate counselling and protection for victimized care givers, training courses offered to promote service receiver's sincere respect and strengthened awareness upon care givers.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 5, 2013, Pages 243~252
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.243
This study analyzes the policy-making process to promote the artists' welfare. In the problems stream, the artists have been found to suffer without any governmental support. In the policy stream, there have been various alternatives but they were not actualized. Meanwhile, a writer died of illness and famine in 2011. In the political stream, the public opinion to require the promotion of the artists' welfare, was strengthened. It made the policy-window open and resulted in the legislation of the Artists Welfare Law. Based upon these analyses, this article concludes that Kingdon's model is applicable to this case. Especially, this study shows that this policy was made with accidental events and the roles of informal participants such as netizen were more critical. However, it should be noted that the content of this Law was modified and trimmed because there was no policy entrepreneur to persuade the dissenters. It could made the policy-making process of this Law distinguished from others.

Thyroid nodular disease is the most frequently appeared in thyroid disease. Thyroid ultrasonography offers location of nodules, size, the number, information of internal echo characteristic. Thus, it makes possible to sort high-risk nodule containing high possibility about thyroid cancer and to induct precisely when take a Fine Needle Biopsy Aspiration. On thyroid nodule, the case which is diagnosed as malignant is less than 5% but screening test is very important on ultrasound and also must be reduced unnecessary procedure. Therefore, in this study an approach for describing a region is to quantity its texture content. We applied TFA algorithm on case which has been pathologically diagnosed as papillary thyroid cancer. we obtained experiment image which set the ROI on ultrasound and cut the
pixel size, histogram equalization. Consequently, Disease recognition detection efficiency of GLavg, SKEW, UN, ENT parameter were high as 91~100%. It is suggestion about possibility on CAD which distinguishes thyroid nodule. In addition, it will be helpful to differential diagnosis of thyroid nodule. If the study on additional parameter algorithm is continuously progressed from now on, it is able to arrange practical base on CAD and it is possible to apply various disease in the thyroid US.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.05.396
The role of influentials to maximize word-of-mouth effect can be seen to be very important. In this paper, we have the perspective of corporate marketing to understand Twitter influentials. We start from the point of view of who can induce eventually most exposure of tweets when he tweets the company's specific marketing messages. From this perspective, we observe both the follower influentials who have many followers and the retweet influentials who induce many retweets by visualizing graphs from network data collected via Twitter Search API. Although some users have small followers they may bring much more exposure than follower influentials if they can induce retweets by follower influentials. On the contrary, some retweet influentials who don't induce retweets by follower influentials may bring very little exposure. This suggests the fact that some small users who can induce retweets by influentials might have more important role than influentials themselves in order to increase the exposure of tweets. These users also are seen to have high centrality measures in the network structure.

The terminals of e-Book(electronic Book) are classified into two types which consist of special-purpose terminal equipment and general-purpose terminal equipment. Although the terminal products inr the two types have had a strong race in the e-Book market each other, both enterprises and consumers want the two type to remain persistently with competition in good faith. Therefore, it is necessary for each type camps to find blue ocean by establishing differentiation strategies of each type. In this paper, we designed the research model that independent variables consist of hardware quality and software quality, dependent variable is user satisfaction, moderator variable is the terminal type. Through the research model, we investigated factors having a influence on the user satisfaction of the e-Book terminal that consists of hardware and software. In particular, we investigated if the degree of the influence is different between the two types. As a result, we got conclusions as followings. First, the quality of hardware and software in the terminal had significant influences on the user satisfaction. Second, the degree which the hardware quality has influenced user satisfaction was not different between the two types, but the degree which the software quality has influence on user satisfaction was different between the two types. As a implication of this result, we found that special-purpose terminal provider need to establish a strategies for raising the quality of e-Book viewer to provide different product from general-purpose terminal.

The point sand bars of Hahoi Village on Nakdong River have undergone considerable changes including fluvial and vegetation characteristics due to flood regulation by the dams constructed upstream. In this study, the numerical fluvial/sediment and water quality model, KU-RLMS, is applied to the aquatic area near Hahoi Village (middle/upper region of the Nakdong River) for clarifying the mechanisms of changes in hydraulic and aquatic characteristics. The fixed-bed hydraulic experiment was carried out for horizontal two-dimensional numerical model. The numerical simulation reveals that flow is accelerated near the left bank of Booyongdae downstream of the Hahoi Village area. Circulatory flow pattern was observed at the right bank downstream of Hahoi Village. The simulation was in good agreement with the hydraulic/physical experiment. For the discharge of design flood, at the area of circulatory flow pattern, the superelevation of about 1.0 m at the right bank was predicted compared to the left bank of high flow velocity, which is also in good agreement with hydraulic experiment.

User involvement in New Service Development(NSD) has attracted the limelight as a good method, but we still lack an empirical analysis of the effectiveness of user involvement. In addition, positive and negative determinants of user involvement in NSD have not often been dealt with in past research, and this deficiency has been identified as a barrier to the effective utilization and diffusion of user involvement in NSD. To our knowledge, this is the first study to empirically investigate the degree of implementation of user involvement in NSD, the effectiveness of user involvement, and the utilization strategy in the digital content industry. First, we reveal that ordinary user involvement is more effective for NSP performance than lead users or business partner companies. Second, we empirically demonstrate that the effectiveness of involving lead user and ordinary user in NSP is different according to the new service type and service development stage. Based on the results of our analyses, we suggest some strategic directions for the companies who want to newly adopt or improve their current level of user involvement in NSD. We expect that the implications of this study will be utilized for efficient diffusion of user involvement in NSD and will eventually contribute to tangible achievements for companies in the digital content industry.
