Authoring of Dynamic Information in Augmented Reality Using Video Object Definition
Nam, Yang-Hee ; Lee, Seo-Jin ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.001
It is generally required to use modeling or animation tools for inserting dynamic objects into augmented reality, and this process demands high expertise and complexity. This paper proposes a video object based authoring method that enables augmentation with dynamic video objects without such process. Integrated grab-cut and grow-cut method strips initial area of video target off the existing video clips, and snap-cut method is then applied to track objects' boundaries over frames so as to augment real world with continuous motion frames. Experiment shows video cut-out and authoring results achieved by only a few menu selections and simple correcting sketch.
An Implementation of Spatio-Temporal Graph to Represent Situations in the Virtual World
Park, Jong-Hee ; Jung, Gung-Hun ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 9~19
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.009
In this paper, we develop a Spatio-Temporal graph as of a key component of our knowledge representation Scheme. We design an integrated representation scheme to depict not only present and past but future in parallel with the spaces in an effective and intuitive manner. An event in general occupies not only a space but a time. Hence a crucial premise for the simulation of virtual situations is to position events in the multi-dimensional context, that is, 3-D space extended by the temporal dimension. Furthermore an event tends to have physical, social and mental aspects intertwined. As a result we need diverse information structures and functions to model entities and relations associated with events and to describe situations in different stances or perspectives of the virtual agents. These structures and functions are implemented in terms of integrated and intuitive representation schemes at different levels such as Ontology View, Instance View, ST View, Reality View. The resulting multi-dimensional comprehensive knowledge structure accommodates multi-layered virtual world developing in the time to maximize the diversity of situations in the historical context. The viability of this knowledge representation scheme is demonstrated with a typical scenario applied to a simulator implemented based on the ST Graph. The virtual stage based on the ST graph can be used to provide natural contexts for situated learning or next-generation simulation games.
Improved Error Detection Scheme Using Data Hiding in Motion Vector for H.264/AVC
Ko, Man-Geun ; Suh, Jae-Won ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 20~29
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.020
The compression of video data is intended for real-time transmission of band-limited channels. Compressed video bit-streams are very sensitive to transmission error. If we lose packets or receive them with errors during transmission, not only the current frame will be corrupted, but also the error will propagate to succeeding frames due to the spatio-temporal predictive coding structure of sequences. Error detection and concealment is a good approach to reduce the bad influence on the reconstructed visual quality. To increase concealment efficiency, we need to get some more accurate error detection algorithm. In this paper, We hide specific data into the motion vector difference of each macro-block, which is obtained from the procedure of inter prediction mode in H.264/AVC. Then, the location of errors can be detected easily by checking transmitted specific data in decoder. We verified that the proposed algorithm generates good performances in PSNR and subjective visual quality through the computer simulation by H.324M mobile simulation tool.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.030
Web crawler should maintain fresh data with minimum server overhead for large amount of data in the web sites. The overhead in the server increases rapidly as the amount of data is exploding as in the big data era. The amount of web information is increasing rapidly with advanced wireless networks and emergence of diverse smart devices. Furthermore, the information is continuously being produced and updated in anywhere and anytime by means of easy web platforms, and smart devices. Now, it is becoming a hot issue how frequently updated web data has to be refreshed in data collection and integration. In this paper, we propose dynamic web-data crawling methods, which include sensitive checking of web site changes, and dynamic retrieving of web pages from target web sites based on historical update patterns. Furthermore, we implemented a Java-based web crawling application and compared efficiency between conventional static approaches and our dynamic one. Our experiment results showed 46.2% overhead benefits with more fresh data compared to the static crawling methods.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 40~47
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.040
In case of wild fire, early detection of wild fire is the most important factor in minimizing the damages. In this paper, we suggest an effective system that detects wild fire using a panoramic image from a single camera with PAN/TILT head. This enables the system to detect the size and the location of the fire in the early stages. After converting RGB image input to color YCrCb image, the differential image is used to detect changes in movement of the smoke to determine the regions which may be prone to forest fire. Histogram analysis of fire flame is used to determine the possibility of fire in the predetermined regions. In addition, image matching and SURF were used to create the panoramic image. There are many advantages in this system. First of all, it is very economical because this system needs only a single camera and a monitor. Second, it shows the live image of wide view through panoramic image. Third, this system can reduce the quantity of saved data by storing panoramic images.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 77~85
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.077
This study aims to analyze the effects that video image in Seo-an's
, claiming to China's first gigantic historic dance drama, has on the performance; it focuses on investigating which video image is used to accomplish the effects in showing specific themes and materials in
. Image is meant by 'reflection of object', such as movie, television, dictionary, etc, with its coverage being extensive. The root of a word, image', is founded on imitary, signifying specifically and mentally visual representation. In other words, video image is considered combination of two synonymous words, 'video' and 'image'. Video is not just comprehension of traditional art genre, like literary value, theatrical qualities, and artistry of scenario, but wholeness as product, integrating original functions of all kinds of art and connecting subtle image creation of human being. The effects of video image represented in
are as followings; first, expressive effect of the connotative meaning, reflecting the spirit of the age and its culture. Second, imaginary identification. Third, transformation scene. Fourth, dramatic interest through immersion. Last but not least, visual effect by dint of dimension of performance.
and Historical Allegory
Han, Sang-Eon ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 86~94
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.086
2000s Korean cinema was influenced by capital, so it chose the way of Allegory instead of talking directly about sensitive issues. A representative movie director is Park Chan Wook who directed The Vengeance Trilogy.
, The final part of Park Chan Wook's The Vengeance Trilogy, reflected Baroque Aesthetics. I analyzed
focusing on Walter Benjamin's Allegory notion in this paper. Walter Benjamin said Allegory is different from a symbol which is represented by totality. Allegory means to reconstruct the fragment instinctively and to expose something repressed. The German Tragic Drama during the baroque period reflects this well. It is my argument that Park Chan Wook incorporated these underlying themes from German Tragic Drama into
. He deconstructed the liberation and the birth myth of a nation, and he restored the socialist and anarchist who were completely excluded from history.
Analysis of the Correlation between Narrative and Emotions Displayed by Movie Characters through a Quantitative Analysis of Dialogues in a Movie
You, Eun-Soon ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 95~107
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.095
A linguistic element found in a movie, dialogue, plays a critical role in building up narrative structure. Still, analyses conducted on movies mostly focus on images due to the nature of a movie that conveys a story through its visual images while dialogue has either been underestimated or received less spotlight despite their importance. This study highlights the significance of lines in a movie. This study calls attention to dialogue, which has stayed out of the main focus and been on the periphery thus far when analyzing movies, so as to see how they contribute to constructing a narrative. It then spotlights the significance of dialogue in the movie. To this end, the study sorts out emotional expressions articulated by actors through their dialogues then to make polarity classification into affirmation and negation, followed by a quantitative analysis of how the polarity proportion of emotional expressions changes depending on the narrative structure. The study also suggests a narrative's relevance with emotions by pointing to dynamic emotional changes that shift between affirmation and negation depending on incidents, conflicts and resolution thereof throughout a movie.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 108~115
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.108
This study focused on whether the existence and type of originals have any effects on box-office performance of the movie. Cultural products have characteristics of experience goods of which consumers hardly know the value of the products before they actually experience the products. To reduce the uncertainty, movie producers may want to use existing contents already made for other type of cultural products, which is generally called of One Source Multi Use. Using 381 Korean box-office data during January 2010 and September 2012, this study found that, first, the existence of original affects positively the movie's box office performance, second, the fiction based original has a positive effect on the movie's box office performance while cartoon and movie/TV based originals do not, and third, the movie type(commercial movie) positively moderates the relationship between fiction based original and movie performance. This study showed that box-office performance is not only affected by the characteristics of the movie itself, but also affected by other conditions including the use of existing originals created for other purposes.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 116~124
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.116
This study aims to develop colored gemstone products based on the analysis of color preference. Colored gem stones were classified by their colors using Munsell's ten basic colors and the color preference of women consumers in their twenties was analyzed, in consideration of trend analysis and design image description analysis, which led to the direction of product development. The analysis of color preference seems to suggest that consumers preferred blue quartz, cahnite, spessartite garnet, the colors of which are rather less known to ordinary consumers, to the other more common kinds of gem stones. Through the analysis of the trends and adjectives to describe preferable design images, the current study has made it possible to explore the designs for the future development of colored jewelry products, which would satisfy the consumption value and individual tastes of the consumers. It is expected that the current study may contribute to the jewelry industries and designers as a basic data for developing colored gem stone products.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.125
Director Choi Donghoon is the most famous director in Korea as a box office successor, especially
(2102) has gained No. 1 box office attraction in Korean film history. However some critics have criticised the works of Dr. Choi because of their plebeianness. This paper focused on the reason of interaction with audiences through the theory of carnival of Mikhail M. Bakhtin. Because the theory of carnival is not only the adapted method to account for the power of popular culture to M. Baktin but also the useful method to understand the keys of interaction of Dr. Choi's films. It's not difficult to find the esthetic elements of carnival theory example for 'dethronement & coronation', 'overturn & ridicule', 'image of feast', 'language of square' in the films of Choi which are The Big Swindle(2004), Tazza: The High Rollers(2006), Woochi(2009), The Thieves(2012). Therefore this paper has endeavored that the box office attraction and success of communication with audiences is due to the realistic attitude and social reflection of Choi's films.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.194
In serious crimes, bloody fingerprints are crucial evidence that make links between suspects and victims. There have been many studies related to bloody fingerprints for a long time. There are many comparative studies for effectiveness of Acid Fuchsin and Acid Yellow 7, but nothing about Eosin-Y in this country. Acid Fuchsin is a useful reagent that has unique red color distinguishing from light colored background. but it is useless on dark surfaces. In order to make it visible, we should use BVDA Gel lifters. On the contrary this, Acid Yellow 7 makes stronger fluorescence on a dark background. In this study, we got the conclusion that Eosin-Y is more useful than the others not only on dark background but also light background.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 202~211
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.202
The research is based on the theory of cognitive psychology that a decision maker creates an internal belief through environment information process and that personal behavior is determined as a means of belief practice. This study implemented a language network analysis to understand the 16th President Noh Moo-hyun"s real estate policy belief who was a key decision maker of Korea. The results of this study are as follows. First, the chief variables of real estate policy recognized by president Rho Mu Hyun included civil economy and real estate speculation and so on. Second, the chief variables of real estate policy recognized by president Rho Mu Hyun did indicate weak correlation with other diverse economic variables. Third, the analysis shows that in practicing the real estate policy, excessive civil economy related with the real estate policy and the obsession with civil life variables worked as reason to pursue social contest rather than social agreement. It is thought that this study result will contribute to policy theory in explaining the policy decision-making process from the perspective of cognitive psychology.

The present study aims to investigate the effects of bicultural characteristics and social capital on psychological adaptations such as depression and self-esteem. A survey was conducted on 295 foreign-born mothers and their 305 children, ranging from third to sixth grade in elementary school up to seventh to ninth grade in middle school, residing in South Korea's seven major cities, including the city of Seoul. The results of this research are the following: 1) With regards to factors that influence depression among children in a multicultural family, less support from a friend leads to a larger exposure to multicultural programs. Also, the lower the perceived income level of his or her family, greater is the state of the child's depression. 2) Significant factors that influence self-esteem for multicultural children are friends' support, level of mothers' Korean language proficiency, teachers' support, and numbers of multicultural programs. Two implications may be addressed from this study. One is the need to consider bicultural characteristics and social capital to enhance psychological adaptability for children raised in multicultural families. Another is to apply social support characteristics such as friends' and teachers' support to multicultural programs.

This study was conducted to evaluate the correlation between the Korean version of Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE-K) and the Korean Computerized Neurobehavioral Test (KCNT) and the usefulness of KCNT for discriminating the patients with suspected dementia from normal persons in patients with a brain injury. The results of each items of KCNT had passed the test for normality. T test for group comparison and bivariate correlation analysis for correlation between two tests were used. There were no significant differences in characteristics of two groups. The differences in results of eight tests of KCNT between two groups were statistically significant (p<.05) and the Pearson correlation coefficients (r) between two tests were statistically significant (p<.05) : simple reaction time (-.580), choice reaction time (-.341), color word vigilance (-.661), digit classification (-.703), 2-digit addition (-.582), 3-digit addition (-.610), symbol digit substitution (-.642), and digit span (.807). These results suggested that simple reaction time and 2-digit addition were useful in discriminating the patients with suspected dementia from normal persons because the Pearson correlation coefficients of the two items of KCNT showed anticlastic association between two groups. And each items of KCNT may use in follow up cognitive function for patients in two groups.

You, Sun-Ju ; Choi, Yun-Kyoung ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 370~379
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.370
In an effort to resolve the burden of patients hiring patient sitters, this study sought to review the Ministry-of-Health-and-Welfare-initiated pilot program of running hospitals without patient-sitter to identify its background, operation method, performance results, and limitations. Based on the review, the study derived the necessity of introducing a hospital system without patient-sitter as well as its operation and systemization methods. The ministry-initiated pilot programs were conducted twice: in 2007, and in 2010. A review of the 2007 pilot program revealed that the patients and families' satisfaction score with nursing services was 9.1 points (on a 10-point scale), their intention to reuse the service was 97.8%, and their intention to recommend the service was 98.0%, all high scores. Appropriate nursing manpower, derived from the 2007 pilot project, indicated 2.3 patients per nurse and 4.0 patients per nurse aid. The 2010 pilot project results indicated that the patients and families' satisfaction was high at 8.0-9.1 points (on a 10-point scale), and that the intention to reuse and recommend the service was also high. Compared with the 2007 pilot project, however, the types of medical institutions and the nurse to patient ratios were diverse, offering limitations. In conclusion, to systemize hospitals without patient-sitter, it is necessary to develop policies designed to establish criteria for the appropriate nurse to patient ratio and skill-mix, to standardize the work, to prepare finances for securing nursing staff, to evaluate the nursing demands, and to monitor the quality management.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.380
The nurse staffing level in the acute care hospitals affects patient safety and performance, and the nurse staffing legislation can be an important tool to guarantee the minimum nurse staffing. In Korea, although the medical law suggests the nurse staffing standards, it is necessary to revise the medical law for quality of nursing care and patient safety. Firstly, the nurse staffing standards in the current medical law enacted in 1962 needs to be revised to reflect changes in health care environment. Secondly, legal nurse staffing standards in the medical law are the minimum nurse staffing that medical institutions should comply with and thus must be managed so that all medical institutions should abide by them. Thirdly, the nurse staffing standards should apply on the basis of RN-to-patient ratios per shift in order to help patients understanding and ensure the easy management. Fourthly, the information of nursing staff level by the nursing unit and nursing shift in hospitals shall be released.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 13, issue 6, 2013, Pages 401~411
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.401
Selection of profitable research and development (R&D) projects is one of the major factors affecting sustained growth of firms and countries. This paper analyze what influences the knowledge on the business model exerted on selection of a R&D project. A business model converts the technology value to the customer value, and comprehensively describes the target customers for commercializing a new technology, core values, behaviors within organizations, resources, and external partners. Thus, understanding a business model would make R&D project evaluators place the feasibility and profitability of the business above the merits of the proposed technology in evaluating the technology development. To verify this hypothesis, we had 78 R&D project evaluators acquire the knowledge on the business model and measured how their criteria for R&D project selection have changed using the AHP method. The results shows that feasibility and profitability are more important than the merit of proposed technology, especially capability of company and business development are more important than the levels of technology innovation.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2013.13.06.469
This study suggests 12 products regarding the pending question of tourism package price mechanism which is linked directly and indirectly to Jeju Tourism, and shows the following conclusions through inspection in mental accounting principles and framing effect based on prospect theory. First, when presenting the price list of the tourism package, it is needed to present in price bundling. Second, it is proven that it is desirable that information about discount prices open the individual discount information of the basic package and option package to public. Third, it is discovered that experienced tourists in purchasing tourism products are more sensitive to price information (price discount) than inexperienced tourists, so that framing effect conform to Knowledge-assembly theory. The current questions of this study are that 'no discount' information should be presented in bundling, that the method of framing is important in presenting discount product information. It is required not only to grasp the viewpoint of modern people in purchasing tourism products, but also to present ready-to-serve products which can save time, effort, cost to give stability in mental accounting principles.

Welfare desire has been diversified according to the increase of economic level and rapid social change. The desire for comprehensive service on culture, medical, mental and information level has appeared. Accordingly, it is necessary to establish an integrated community mixed-support facility, a space of accepting administration, welfare, leisure, culture and informatization request in a small local community in the future. The community mixed-support facility is a meeting place of local resident for information change, various basic service and ultimately for activation of community in order to contribute to regeneration and activation of existing urban core. Thus, this study figured out general status of community mixed-support facility and physical mixed type and analyzed spatial characteristics. Current community mixed-support facility has insufficient program and space to participate in by local residents and to accommodate mixed function. The future planned community mixed-support facility must secure multiple opportunities for various types of life by returning time and cost to user through the introduction of creative mixed concept. While reflecting unique local characteristics, and considering diversity of users, it needs to make mixed facility to cope with social changes. This study is limited in that the study reached a conclusion by survey and analysis only. However, it is expected that the result can be used as basic research data for the planning of community mixed-support facility to cope with living conditions of local residents or realistic requirements.
