The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 14, issue 1, 2014, Pages 1~13
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2014.14.01.001
RP(Rapid prototyping) technology is widely used to reduce the cost and cycle time of new prototypes in industries as new product development cycle time currently shortened and the voice of customers also become to be diversified. In this study, RP skill used in making jewelry products was adapted to develop the metallic inlaying base of traditional handicraft products as the significance of CAD/CAM technologies was increased. The RP technology showed that it helped the handicraftsman to cut the groove for inlaying metalic wire more easily, uniformly and diversely than conventional handicraft technique in making the groove with undercut shape. Therefore this study showed that RP technology applied for the metalic inlaying base achieved more elaborate, intricate and uniform patterns, not depending on craftsmanship, compared with conventional handicraft skill in terms of quality, cost and delivery.

Hong, Seok Hee ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 14, issue 1, 2014, Pages 14~23
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2014.14.01.014
There have been many researches for XML as the international standard to store and exchange data on the internet. Among these research fields, we focus on the techniques labeling the nodes of the XML tree that is required for querying the structural information. A labeling scheme assigns the unique label to the nodes and supports the queries for the structural information such as Ancestor-Descendant and Parent-Child relationships. In this paper, we propose a labeling scheme using vector representation where the assigned labels are not altered although XML documents are changed dynamically. Our labeling scheme reduces the storage requirement for the labels of the XML tree and provides the efficient query by using the fixed-length labels with a short size. Result of performance evaluation shows that our labeling scheme is superior to the previous approaches.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2014.14.01.024
This paper proposes a kinect-based human motion recognition model for the 3D contents control after tracking the human body gesture through the camera in the infrared kinect project. The proposed human motion model in this paper computes the distance variation of the body movement from shoulder to right and left hand, wrist, arm, and elbow. The human motion model is classified into the movement directions such as the left movement, right movement, up, down, enlargement, downsizing. and selection. The proposed kinect-based human motion recognition model is very natural and low cost compared to other contact type gesture recognition technologies and device based gesture technologies with the expensive hardware system.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2014.14.01.030
The purpose of this study is to suggest the feasible strategies to vitalize e-learning through investigating the characteristics of e-learning and the evaluations of distance learners on online courses in the domestic universities in Korea. First, in order to accomplish this, 10 Universities and 17 Cyber Universities were selected to explore their characteristics and main projects of e-learning for the administration level investigation. Secondly, content analysis of the bulletin board systems(BBS) and in-depth interviews on distance learners in Cyber Universities were conducted for the user level investigation. The results revealed that Universities in Korea were focused on establishing mobile or smart campuses, diversifying online educational contents, enhancing online interactive systems, and educating e-learning system and smart device utilization. However, distance learners reported that mobile e-learning lacked stability when taking online courses despite its convenience for purpose of academic administration. In addition, distance learners requested the social application workshops to improve on their learning experience as well as the interactions among peers. Therefore, it is important to focus more on how to establish the education-oriented e-learning environment rather than how to implement the administrative projects to animate e-learning in the domestic universities in Korea.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2014.14.01.040
Animation in Taiwan has been profoundly influenced by the production of labor intensity for American and Japanese in the early days of its development. This phenomenon of the labor intensity reached peak in the 1980s. Information Bureau of Taiwan began to establish a system of supportive funding for its animation industry in the 1990s. During this period, the animation industry in Taiwan gave special emphasis to the theme of the local culture and to the creative works of the animation. By the 2010s, the elements of Chinese culture were introduced in the animation production in Taiwan. Through cross-national cooperation in production with other advanced countries, the Taiwan-made animation was successfully expended to the international market. However, the animation industry in Taiwan is facing the following problematical challenges: Firstly, the Taiwan government gives special attention to the financial support of animation industry rather than training university students to become professional experts in animation production. Secondly, there is no professional higher institution established to train specialized professional animation film-makers. Thirdly, Due to the lack of the cultural inspiration and the original mind, the form of its creative animated production is primarily imitated from other advanced countries. And fourthly, despite the fact that there is a cooperation and exchange programs between Taiwan and other foreign animation industries.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2014.14.01.048
A new relation between technological changes and arts is begins to create by the modernization of the West. Because the arts in the past that were enjoyed by specific individuals and small number of people are now massively produced via technological development, public acceptance of such arts is now possible. In this study, movement between each frame, which can be the core in animation, is investigated. We can see that the animation`s cinematic movement cannot be identified with motions reproduced in live action films, let alone the motions in real world, no matter how the reproduced motions in animation are faithfully made. In the end, while crating the detailed expressions of movement of animation, along with cinema factors, and the continuity of such expressions, we can gradually exert the power of animation art form with enlivened reality that only animation has.

Most of experimental films have different visual techniques and aesthetic values compared to those of narrative films. This difference makes it difficult to understand experimental films. In order to understand in what ways the experimental film has broken with the convention of narrative film, it is important to examine certain structure of experimental film. The important aspect of many experimental films is the way that they have altered the nature of narrative by changing the way that we perceive the succession of image. In particular, The tradition of American Sturcture film has been the contribution of the experimental film to expand the limits of this rule system and evolve a more personal and organic approach to the continuum of film. This approach has been a method of understanding experimental films and still a useful aesthetic tools both reading personal films and making innovative works.

Lim, Taewoo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 14, issue 1, 2014, Pages 66~75
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2014.14.01.066
The purpose of this study is to analyze and illustrate `Rhizome`, a postmodern speculation system based on de-subjectivity and decentralization, presented by Gilles Deleuze. He borrowed the word rhizome, an originally botanical term meaning a horizontal stem under the surface of the earth, to counteract the dominating system grounded on binary, root-tree structure. The study then criticizes the early movements of de-subjectivity with molecular-biological and evolutionary evidences, and proves that these evidences can only be characterized by chance and nomadism, which are the key elements that constitute Rhizome. As a practical example of Rhizome, the study analyzes the film
by Gus Van Sant, and demonstrates that both his various cinematic experiments and the result bear the same characteristics as Rhizome.

Moreover, those female directors who enter the Korean film industry are mostly concentrated in low budget independent films. Yet, female directors have been continuously searching and challenging in order to find a way to communicate with general populations. As a result, recently female directors have been noticed in thriller films. This report will analyze how the thriller films directed by female directors have evolved since 2000 based on the status of female directors in commercial films. The report will analyze two thriller films "Helpless" and "Perfect Number", released in 2012.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 14, issue 1, 2014, Pages 88~96
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2014.14.01.088
This study attempts, based on the premise that gender roles and identity is a social construct, to show how TV portrayal of the male has changed through the years with changes in time and society, from the traditional depiction of hegemonic masculinity and ideal manhood as supported by the patriarchal system. A narrative analysis was conducted on popular variety shows "Dad, Where Are We Going?" and "Superman Returns". The results showed that both TV shows created a new type of masculinity by centering the narrative on the traditionally female roles of child rearing and housekeeping, and recreating the traditional strict and authoritative father figure into a non-authoritative and emotionally expressive father. However, as `child rearing` and `housekeeping` is expressed as `play`, there are limitations in that the actual daily lives and hardship of women is excluded from the narrative.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2014.14.01.128
Local festivals quite often give their visitors and local residents a good opportunity to experience the regional culture thoroughly. Also, the festivals empower the cultural pride and communal sociality, and create new jobs improving local economy. In Korea, more than 700 local festivals are held every year. Each festival is organized and operated upon all different purpose and mission. It is unfortunate, however, that many festivals fail to balance between making profits and accomplishing their purpose. Festival`s marketing plan and content management should be cohesive, but at the same time, they also should be different depending on the festival`s purpose and program. Especially in case of performance natured festivals, the role and function of festival directing should be more weighed on content management. Namhaean Byeolsingut is one of performance natured festivals, in which its archetype or primitive form is well maintained. This study observes the primitive form of NB from the director`s viewpoint, and then provides a solid foundation on how those main characteristics of NB could be applied to invigorating local festival directing. The directing suggestions here are motivated by NB`s ritual, performative, and play form.

Twitter`s increasingly important role in political communication can be effectively addressed by examining the process by which Twitter users form their opinions on television debate program. Content analyses of Twitter discussions after television debate of the Korean presidential candidates provided interesting insights into how Twitter`s opinion leaders reflect on the televised debates. The results show that Twitter mentions rather focus on personality traits of the candidates while television debates emphasize the candiates` policy issues. Specifically, Twitter users mainly concentrated on the political ideology and morality of the candidates. In sum, Twitter seems to have its own way of influencing the public opinion separately from the television.

Recently pediatric CT has been performed by reduced dose according to tube current modulation이라고, this fact has a possibility more reduce a dose because of strong affect depend on tube current modulation. Almost all MDCT snow show and allow storage of the volume CT dose index (CTDIvol), dose length product (DLP), and effective dose estimations on dose reports, which are essential to assess patient radiation exposure and risks. To decrease these radiation exposure risks, the principles of justification and optimization should be followed. justification means that the examination must be medically indicated and useful. Results is using tube current modulation이라고 tend to the lower kV, the lower effective dose. In case of use a low dose CT protocol, we found a relatively lower effective dose than using tube current modulation. Average effective dose of our studies(brain, chest, abdomen-pelvis) less than 47%, 13.8%, 25.7% of germany reference dose, and 55.7%, 10.2%, 43.6% of UK(United Kingdom) reference dose respectively. when performed examination for reduced dose, we must use tube current modulation and low dose CT protocol including body-weight based tube current adaption.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2014.14.01.537
In this paper, the ALT (ALTernative) board and a NetLogo extension module are developed for the active participatory simulation (APS) learning. Through the participatory simulation with HubNet each student can attend the experiment as one of clients. Only one HubNet server, however, is able to use an external device so that the bifocal modeling based learning with multiple users is impossible. In order to overcome the drawback, and enable clients participate into the experiment and collect the experimental data and the measured data, an ATmega 32 based board and its firmware are developed. In addition, Java extension module based on TCP/IP socket interfaces is developed to exchange the data with HubNet server. Finally, we show some NetLogo program examples to use the developed hardware and software for APS and seek the way to use them for science education.
