ECG Identification Method Using Adaptive Weight Based LMSE Optimization
Kim, Seok-Ho ; Kang, Hyun-Soo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 15, issue 4, 2015, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2015.15.04.001
This paper presents a Electrocardiogram(ECG) identification method using adaptive weight based on Least Mean Square Error(LMSE) optimization. With a preprocessing for noise suppression, we extracts the average ECG signal and its standard deviation at every time instant. Then the extracted information is stored in database. ECG identification is achieved by matching an input ECG signal with the information in database. In computing the matching scores, the standard deviation is used. The scores are computed by applying adaptive weights to the values of the input signal over all time instants. The adaptive weight consists of two terms. The first term is the inverse of the standard deviation of an input signal. The second term is the proportional one to the standard deviation between user SAECGs stored in the DB. Experimental results show up to 100% recognition rate for 32 registered people.
Design of Optimized SWAP System for Next-Generation Storage Devices
Han, Hyuck ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 15, issue 4, 2015, Pages 9~16
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2015.15.04.009
On modern operating systems such as Linux, virtual memory is a general way to provide a large address space to applications by using main memory and storage devices. Recently, storage devices have been improved in terms of latency and bandwidth, and it is expected that applications with large memory show high-performance if next-generation storage devices are considered. However, due to the overhead of virtual memory subsystem, the paging system can not exploit the performance of next-generation storage devices. In this study, we propose several optimization techniques to extend memory with next-generation storage devices. The techniques are to allocate block addresses of storage devices for write-back operations as well as to configure the system parameters, and we implement the techniques on Linux 3.14.3. Our evaluation through using multiple benchmarks shows that our system has 3 times (/24%) better performance on average than the baseline system in the micro(/macro)-benchmark.

The applications program that running on Operating System has high dependence. Because environment of OS and standard libraries that supports are different. For those reason, Applications that perform the same function should be implemented in accordance with the new operating system. This results in a temporal and economic waste not only in subsequent maintenance of application but also in management. Even though, to solve this problem Cygwin or MinGW has been distributed, they do not support the portability of the application but provide a virtual environment and the tool. Therefore, in this paper, we design the wrapper format interface middleware using the POSIX and standard C library to support the application performing the same function on virtual environment and without code modification. The middleware can be selectively loading the API that is classified by basic and extend. This allows to managing the application size efficiently. Also, perform the comparative experiments and performance evaluation for application, on equipped with the Interface Middleware Linux, Unix, Windows and on Cygwin.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2015.15.04.029
Digital Signage, a way of advertising or delivering information to viewers through digital displays, has expanded from being just an advertising channel in public places. Recently, it has become widely prevalent in restaurants and retail stores. Despite its wide expansion, digital signage is limited to specific usages and services and the devices it uses are also quite expensive. This study introduces a stick-type digital signage product that operates on Android OS, which addresses all the weaknesses of digital signage with much more reasonable pricing and stable operation. For stability, performance tests were executed on the hardware and applications. The results for hardware performance were extremely promising, as each scenario's maximum performance results, measured by Load Runner programs, reached target indexes. Also, as a result of the usability test, all participants, including non-digital signage system users (novices), were able to easily learn all the tasks. As a result of user satisfaction survey, positive responses were exhibited for ease of learning and usability (LEU), helpfulness and problem solving capabilities (HPSC), affective aspect and multimedia properties (AAMP), commands and minimal memory load (CMML), and control and efficiency (CE).

Park, Byung-Kyu ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 15, issue 4, 2015, Pages 65~74
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2015.15.04.065
This study is dealing with sound of Hitchcock's movie <The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)> from Peirce's semiotic perspective. This paper examined Peirce's theory prior to semiotic discussion, and analyzed the three elements of sound(speech, noise, music) depending on the type of sign that he presented. Music is possible to express emotions as an index through intervals. The instrument sound under firstness works as the element of narrative and it may be a dynamic object, transferred to the dicisign of secondness. Also, a word in speech is possible to represent an object allusively through an icon in the film. Noise and music as an index are serving to increase the tension of film. Meanwhile, two different genres of music on the juxtaposition are in charge of narrative function as a dicisign. Thus, Hitchcock's sound has various semiotic qualities of signification depending on the context.

Unconscious Signs in Visual Signification of Lacan's Metaphor
Park, Sang-Hyeok ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 15, issue 4, 2015, Pages 88~96
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2015.15.04.088
The universe of discourse presented in the visual image is bound up with the experience and culture of parties; its sender and recipient. Signification of visual message is revealed through the mutual independent process. The mechanism where production of signifiant by sender and reception of metaphoric signifiant function unconsciously can be applied to Lacan's theory;"The unconscious is structured like a language". By applying Lacan's metaphoric formula which takes linguistic approach to visual image it is suggested that analysis of signification is possible. This analysis can be a base for seeking varied level of signifiant presented in visual metaphor logically and practically. Metaphoric structure of the signifiant and the matrix analysis can develop a creative idea and propose a practical way for the visual image production. Thus empirical study about nastic response and the future analysis result is expected to be possible.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 15, issue 4, 2015, Pages 179~187
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2015.15.04.179
Social unrest from retaliatory crimes is increasingly becoming problematic. Recently, there was an accident involving a suspect who went to a hospital and committed acts of retaliatory violence 11 times. This person's reasoning was that he was imprisoned due to the hospital's reporting to the police. He was consequently arrested in Boeun Choongbook on December 27th 2014. Accidents like this one take place frequently around our surroundings. There are regulations and systems in place. Nevertheless, similar cases that continue to take place makes us wonder if criminal judicial systems work well. Lukewarm responses to retaliatory crimes is not only threatening social security, but also placing fears in the minds of ordinary citizens. If retaliatory crimes take place, most citizens become apprehensive about criminal judicial activities of the police and mistrust for criminal judicial system. This at times discourages people from reporting incidents and could eventually increase crime rate and cause various social problems. Even though there are legal and systemic control measures, retaliatory crime is an increasing trend. This study is going to examine tendencies of internal retaliatory crimes and discuss legal-systemical responses.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 15, issue 4, 2015, Pages 342~349
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2015.15.04.342
The objective of this study was to compare the unimanual and bimanual complementary movements of the affected upper extremity. Thirty participants living in Busan area with post-stroke hemiparesis were involved in this study. They were selected according to twelve criteria. We used the Fitmeter accelerometer to measure Signal Vector Magnitude, peak acceleration and peak deceleration. The movement time and Signal Vector Magnitude of bimanual complementary movement were less than those of unimanual movement(p<0.05). Therefore, we suggest that bimanual complementary movement is more useful, as for the kinematic aspect, than unimanual movement when a person with stroke perform activities of daily living.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2015.15.04.357
In this experiment, we are to know the administered radioactivity in the actual patients by measuring the remained radioactivity when administering the isotope with noted MDP, the radiopharmaceutical product, to 50 visited patients for the bone scan, confirmed the radioactivity administered to actual patients. We confirmed the actual administered amount of remained radioactivity in the syringe and 3-way by using a gauger after administering the isotope with MDP noted via 3-way with 50 patients maintaining 3-way after CT or MRI among the visited patients for the bone scan in the department of nuclear medicine. As a result of radioactivity in the 3-way and syringe pre and post injection of radiopharmaceutical products in 50 patients, average radioactivity of pre-injection is 31.75 mCi, average remained radioactivity in the syringes after injection is 1.22 mCi, and the average remained radioactivity in 3-way after injection is 0.95 mCi. The average of actual administered radioactivity is 29.57, so it is obvious that average 2.18 mCi was administered for less than the dosage that we initially intended to inject. When determining the dosage in view of the radioactivity that remains in the 3-way with the syringe, it would be possible to accurately dose the desired dosage to be administered to actual patients.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2015.15.04.479
The paradigm of communication is changing by the generalization of mobile computers and the extension of network service. In the mobile messenger communication, people are increasingly using character emoticons to substitute linear text. This means that the character emoticons are functioning as narrative characters so that they are becoming the nonlinear techno-code, which can substitute for the alphabet code. As Vil
m Flusser said, the post-modern communication is arrived. In this kind of communication, storytelling with character emoticons are effective enough to tell various stories. In this point of view, this paper tries to prove the functions of character emoticons and suggests the classification of the character emoticon series. This paper also structures the post-modern communication model as a new paradigm of visual communication.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 15, issue 4, 2015, Pages 545~555
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2015.15.04.545
We investigated the influence of negative emotion such as state-trait anxiety and depression and working memory (WM) on Foreign Language Vocabulary Learning (FLVL) of South Korean university students. Also, its implications for developing contents for FLVL were discerned. To do so, state-trait anxiety and depression inventories as well as four kinds of WM test were performed for 132 undergraduate students. Participants also had two semantic learning sessions for Swahili words. The mean scores of negative emotions were normal level. The results of structural equation modeling (SEM) showed that there was no effect of negative emotion on FLVL, while direct effects of the negative emotion on WM and the WM on FLVL were significant. Such results suggested that FLVL would be weakened, with the result that WM had been impaired by negative emotions. These outcomes suggested that when developing FLVL content for university students, it is necessary to consider the negative emotions of foreign language learners and to develop the contents for FLVL in the light of WM load.
