Internet of Things (IoTs) technologies have been computerized information generated from a variety of objects and humans, and have been applied to various fields by connecting via the Internet. In order to compensate for the marginal characteristics of IoT smart devices, such as low-power, limited processing and capacities, combining IoT and cloud computing technologies is now established itself as one of the paradigms. In this paper, we look at the definition, features and services of IoT and cloud computing technology, and we investigate and analyze the conversing needs of IoT and could computing, existing conversion paradigms, convergence cases, and platforms. In results, there are challenges to be solved, even though the cloud technologies complement a number of restrictions of IoT and offer various advantages such as scalability, interoperability, reliability, efficiency, availability, security, ease of access, ease of use, and reduced cost of deployment. We analyze the new research issues of convergence paradigm, and finally suggest a research challenges for convergence.
Design and Implementation of Server-based Resource Obfuscation Techniques for Preventing Copyrights Infringement to Android Contents

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2016.16.05.013
Most software is distributed as a binary file format, so reverse engineering is not easy. But Android is based on the Java and running on virtual machine. So, Android applications can be analyzed by reverse engineering tools. To overcome this problem, various obfuscation techniques are developed. In android environment, the Proguard is most widely used because it is included in the Android SDK distribution package. The Proguard can protect the Java source code from reverse engineering analysis. But it has no function to protect resources like images, sounds and databases. In this paper, we proposed and implemented resource obfuscation framework to protect resources of android application. We expect that this framework can protect android resources effectively.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2016.16.05.021
In the design and develop a virtual character, it is important to correctly deliver target emotions generated by the combination of facial expression and gesture. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of congruent/incongruent between gesture and facial expression on target emotion. In this study four emotions, joy, sadness, fear, and anger, are applied. The results of study showed that sadness emotion were incorrectly perceived. Moreover, it was perceived as anger instead of sadness. Sadness can be easily confused when facial expression and gestures were simultaneously presented. However, in the other emotional status, the intended emotional expressions were correctly perceived. The overall evaluation of virtual character's emotional expression was significantly low when joy gesture was combined with sad facial expression. The results of this study suggested that emotional gesture is more influential correctly to deliver target emotions to users. This study suggested that social cues like gender or age of virtual character should be further studied.

International volunteering in education is one of activities in volunteering. Volunteers have been recognizing that educational activities play an important role in volunteering. Recently, there is an increase of participants and various supports for educational volunteering in South Korea. However, regardless of the essential meanings in which activities commonly attempt for deriving local sources in terms of human and resources, many participants in volunteering take advantages of their own purposes and providing their supports in terms of a mercy. This study asserts that this situation comes from the lack of theoretical understanding of volunteering. Therefore, this study realizes a need of providing a theoretical background and purports to suggest it for international volunteering in education. It is the critical pedagogy. Critical pedagogy tries to deconstruct false-consciousness of the oppressed through education. And, it emphasizes that people could have autonomy and self-directed sovereignty. Accordingly, critical pedagogy should be a theoretical background of activities for deriving human's autonomous consciousness and their own resources. Thus, it might be a theoretical background for international volunteering in education.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 16, issue 5, 2016, Pages 104~112
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2016.16.05.104
The Adaboost chooses a good set of features in rounds. On each round, it chooses the optimal feature and its threshold value by minimizing the weighted error of classification. The involved process of classification performs a hard decision. In this paper, we expand the process of classification to a soft fuzzy decision. We believe this expansion could allow some flexibility to the Adaboost algorithm as well as a good performance especially when the size of a training data set is not large enough. The typical Adaboost algorithm assigns a same weight to each training datum on the first round of a training process. We propose a new algorithm to assign different initial weights based on some statistical properties of involved features. In experimental results, we assess that the proposed method shows higher performance than the traditional one.

Kim, Choong-Myung ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 16, issue 5, 2016, Pages 242~250
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2016.16.05.242
This study was conducted to investigate whether Stroop-related cognitive task will be affected according to the preceding affective valence factored by matchedness in response time(RT) and whether facial recognition will be indexed by specific event-related potentials(ERPs) signature in normal person as in patients suffering from affective disorder. ERPs primed by subliminal(30ms) facial stimuli were recorded when presented with four pairs of affect(positive or negative) and cognitive task(matched or mismatched) to get ERP effects(N2 and P300) in terms of its amplitude and peak latency variations. Behavioral response analysis based on RTs confirmed that subliminal affective stimuli primed the target processing in all affective condition except for the neutral stimulus. Additional results for the ERPs performed in the negative affect with mismatched condition reached significance of emotional-face specificity named N2 showing more amplitude and delayed peak latency compared to the positive counterpart. Furthermore the condition shows more positive amplitude and earlier peak latency of P300 effect denoting cognitive closure than the corresponding positive affect condition. These results are suggested to reflect that negative affect stimulus in subliminal level is automatically inhibited such that this effect had influence on accelerating detection of the affect and facilitating response allowing adequate reallocation of attentional resources. The functional and cognitive significance with these findings was implied in terms of subliminal effect and affect-related recognition modulating the cognitive tasks.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2016.16.05.251
Recently, the demand for fast storage devices is rapidly increasing in cloud platforms, social network services, etc. Despite the development of fast storage devices, the traditional Linux I/O stack is not able to exploit the full extent of the performance improvement since it has been optimized for disk-based storage devices. In this paper, we propose an optimized I/O stack which can fully utilize the I/O bandwidth and latency of fast storage devices. To this end, we design a new I/O interface to replace the current block I/O interface and optimize our I/O interface. Our optimized I/O interface bypasses operations/layers in block I/O subsystems of the current Linux I/O stack to fully exploit fast storage devices. We also optimize the Linux file systems such as ext2 and ext4 to run on our I/O interface. We evaluate our I/O stack with multiple benchmarks and the experimental results show that our I/O stack achieves 1.7 times better throughput compared to traditional Linux I/O stack.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 16, issue 5, 2016, Pages 282~289
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2016.16.05.282
A term that has been used since ancient times, 'trickster' means 'a person who performs general tricks'. In other words, a trickster is a person who exhibits his or her intrinsic characteristics by using tricks, or who has a special ability to make any situation work well only for him or herself. This thesis looks for basic concepts and features of tricksters in research undertaken into tricksters to date. It also aims to uncover the trickster side of Maltugi in Talchum (a traditional mask dance). A trickster is a person who tricks, but the characteristic itself is unclear and abnormal. A trickster also has borderline, duplicitous or multi-value characteristics, so it is impossible to merely define him or her as 'a person who tricks'. When dealing with a trickster's characteristics, the 'Liminality' element is very important, because he or she is a person who exists in all the borderlines of space, time, society, and language, and assaults the social order via deceit, play, and the fulfillment of greed. Maltugi in Talchum is a man of humble birth, but he is a character who attacks the Yangban (aristocrats) without hesitation. He is a kind of representative of the people who speaks for the commoners' feelings. At a time of the Three Policies' Disorder and frequent external aggressions, the commoners felt a sense of helplessness against the Yangban, who they viewed as immoral. Maltugi laughs at and depreciates the Yangban through the use of puns, and shows a faithful attitude to the present without being afraid of the result caused by his activity. This implies that he has the characteristics of a trickster.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2016.16.05.290
This study analyzed the features of the nodules requiring a fine needle aspiration, which were found in thyroid ultrasonography of the employee health check-up examinees. Based on the fine needle aspiration results, over 1 cm nodules or those implying malignancy on the ultrasonography were categorized into the 1st group. Whereas, regardless of the size the fine needle aspiration results implying malignancy on the ultrasonography were categorized into the 2nd group. In the 1st group, 15.8% were malignant, and in the 2nd group, 28% were malignant. The findings implying malignancy were statistically significant. However, even though the nodules were larger than 1 cm, when the nodules were not accompanied by a high risk factor and showed a spongiform structure in the ultrasonographic results, most of them were benign, and a fine needle aspiration was not required. The ultrasonographic findings are important rationales in making a decision on whether or not a fine needle aspiration is required for thyroid nodules. Currently, the fine needle aspiration for thyroid nodules is commonly performed when the size of the nodule is larger than 1 cm, even though it has a spongiform structure, to relieve the patient's anxiety. However, if ultrasonographic findings of thyroid are correctly understood in differentiating malignant from benign nodules, unnecessary fine needle aspiration can be avoided.

Both the formal type of architecture and free-form architecture have basic factors and methods for basic expression. Because the use of digital design tools for creation of free-form design mostly depends on the character and ability of designer, this study aims to propose establishment of free-form design creation method as a prototype, including the method to create free-form design, through setting up rules that can be used in common. This study is carried out on the basis of the application of digital design tools used for creation of conceptual free-form styles at the phase of conceptualization and development, which is different from the general theory of free-from design. The free-from style in the modern architecture has begun with the changes in digital design tools and design concepts. In the case study based on the free-form designs in precedent studies, the morphological characteristics have been analyzed and interpreted by using the language of digital design tools, so that this study will suggest the techniques to realize the free-form style on the basis of geometric transformation by using the digital design tools, as well.

Learning the principles of perception belongs to both the psychology and art field. However, people define that an art education is an activity of expression, so an activity of an art appreciation is either downsized or hardly proceeded in an art class. Therefore, the art appreciation educational program that gives a motivation to appreciate the work of art and to minimize a burden towards the activity of an art appreciation is needed. This paper proposes an educational program that includes activities to appreciate the work of art using the principles of perception and to create personal portfolios. Also, we analyze the eye movement of the paintings according to the principles of perception. Finally, proposes the art appreciation education program based on Feldman's critique method. In addition, we illustrate the example of the proposed art appreciation educational program with the analyzed paintings from section III.

The study aims to gain information for developing educational content to support LPSMBs (low-performing students with multicultural backgrounds) in elementary and middle schools. The procedure involved surveying students about their personal characteristics, attitudes related to learning, and learning environment. I analyzed responses from 1,147 students from 200 elementary schools and 3,760 students from 320 middle schools who were LPSMBs and NPSMBs (normally performing students with multicultural backgrounds). LPSMBs in both elementary and middle school showed statistically significant lower scores on most questionnaires related to learning and learning environment than NPSMBs. LPSMBs in elementary schools showed higher scores on teachers' learning support, LPSMBs in middle school showed higher scores on classmates' learning support. LPSMBs born in foreign countries need to be given opportunities to learn Korean as well as their father's and mother's culture. I give suggestions for how to support LPSMBs' learning and learning environment based on the survey results.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 16, issue 5, 2016, Pages 385~398
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2016.16.05.385
This research analyzed domestic newspapers' agenda setting trend and meaning construction process on the issue of marine environment by year. The research conducted a language network analysis and used R program and Netminer program to analyze four major daily newspapers' news coverages (Dong-A, Joongang, Hanhyoreh, and Kyunghyang) for the last ten years (2005-2014). The results show that the issue of marine environment in Korean media reports are signified in the economic context. For the last ten years, news reports are mainly focused on the 'development' issue of marine environment, without distinction of year. The core key words of the networks are "development", "plan", and "project." However, diverse strategies for 'preservation' are not covered in media reports as a major issue. The importance of effective preservation and reasonable development should be considered in a balanced way. Korean media coverages mainly concentrate on the development issue, and it has a strong influence on considering the marine environment area as an object of development. Future direction and implication of the press reports related to marine environment are discussed.

It becomes undeniable trends that offline shopping stores operate their own online shopping stores too. The multi-channel shopping stores like this allow consumers to have much choices to shop from either offline channel or online channel. This trend, however, also opens new research issues. Especially, we have found from literature survey that a new research model is necessary for more in-depth study of the consumer behavior analysis in the multi-channel trends like this, where those constructs such as offline trust, uncertainty, switching cost, and individual negative emotion are considered. It is noted, especially in the multi-channel environments, that uncertainty and switching cost need to be considered, and that individual tends to feel negative emotion much more. By relying on 406 valid questionnaires, we obtained empirical results such that switching cost and offline trust have a positive effect on continuance intention, and uncertainty tends to increase switching cost. Individual negative emotion also affects continuance intention significantly.

In this study, we used the literature method the existing data collection clean up, analysis, and evaluating. The solution plan for the vitalization of the guarantee of social insurance for stage actors is as follows. First, based on social insurance law, is to grant an exceptional status to stage artists. Second, the process for buying social insurance has to be changed to posterior judgement by Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism after buying social insurance through Ministry of Employment and Labor. And when a theater company as a leaseholder rent a theater, it should be mandatory for it to get existing industrial accident compensation law. As a new numerical formula, there are an unemployment insurance numerical formula considering distinct characteristics of artists' labor and a formula of calculating insurance fee for industrial accident compensation. Last, there needs to be an introduction of exceptional method allowing a preparatory period for the production of a play and stage actors' side job.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2016.16.05.520
In this paper, we propose a novel method to analyze and quantitatively evaluate the impression of landscapes and soundscapes about traditional area of Chungnam Asan city in Korea. For this, we collated data about impression evaluation of Korean and Japanese students and, based on these result, we proved the validity and usefulness of the evaluation system that we proposed through this study. The research process conducted in this study as follows: first of all, we had selected five traditional places of interest in Asan City, and investigated various conditional elements of the area including soundscapes which is forming the landscape using video camera. And we made both Korean and Japanese students evaluate the impression for these videotaped landscape data through using the SD(semantic differential) method. And then, we quantified these qualitative data through applying the quantification theory and cluster analysis method to them. Though this process, we could obtain both data as a result derived by classifying each sample and categorizing levels of those impression evaluation. Because of totally difference between those two analyzing processes, which one is for sample classification and the other is for determining impression level, we could validate the usefulness of our evaluation system through conducting comparative analysis of results from both methods. Analysis showed that our novel evaluation system for landscape is effective and, in most part of the traditional landscape, Japanese students' responses are different far from the Korean students' responses.

This paper, in the situation of deepening poverty and worsening income inequality, aims to find the impact on income inequality of main income sources such as public income, market income and family income in the elderly and propose polices for weakening the income inequality in the elderly. Main results are as follows. First, Gini coefficients of each income sources in the elderly are total income's 0.4801, public income's 0.4071, market income's 0.6736 and family income's 0.1855. Income inequality in the elderly population is serious in the total income, public income and market income areas. Second, after excepting for public income in total income, Gini coefficient is 0.4864. after excepting for market income in total income, Gini coefficient is 0.3609. And after excepting for family income in total income, Gini coefficient is 0.5784. When market and public income are excepted from total income, Gini coefficient alleviate. Therefore, market income and public income are the major causes of income inequality in the elderly. But, family income alleviate the income inequality in the elderly. In order to alleviating the income inequality of the elderly, we must try to increasing the market income. For example, government must to supply job opportunities for the elderly of low-income.

This study examined the importance of social capital in facilitating older adults' learning and adaptation of information technology as well as alleviating depressive symptoms. At two senior community centers in South Korea, 144 adults aged 60 and older were recruited to participate in 12 week-long technology classes to learn computers, smart phone, and internet skills. At the baseline interviews were conducted to assess their health status, depression, and online social relationships. Online and offline social capital (bonding vs. bridging) was assessed (Williams, 2006). Four-step Hierarchical Linear Regression analysis was conducted to examine the effects of online social relationship on depression. Findings suggested that depressive symptoms were associated with being widowed, being unemployed, and perceiving poor health status. Adding social capital variables in the final step, older adults who perceived less stressors, greater level of subjective health and high online bonding capitals had less depressive symptoms. Only online social bonding was significant in alleviating depression. This final model explained 48% of the variance. Computer/Internet training for older adults need to consider the significant role bonding social capital can play. The findings of this pilot study provided a preliminary base of knowledge about acceptable community-based interventions for older adults.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 16, issue 5, 2016, Pages 772~782
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2016.16.05.772
To meet the needs of societies that have been suggesting that practical competency is the key factor in the economies and societies of the 21st century, OECD developed the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). The purpose of this study is to critically review the contents of adult competency in PIAAC upon the premise that the validity of the contents of adult competency must be assessed before setting up any national strategies to develop adult competency. First, this study points out that the contents of adult competency in PIAAC seem insufficient to objectively measure cognitive and practical competency of adults. Second, the contents of adult competency in PIAAC assess only observable and measurable individual knowledge and functions, despite the fact that adult competency must be viewed as collective competency where various aspects of proficiencies are closely interconnected. Third, the contents of adult competency in PIAAC do not take the nature of humans into consideration: it assesses human beings based only on observable human behaviors. In conclusion, this study maintains that we need to discuss the adult competency that matches well with the societal and industrial needs of Korea and to critically review the validity of any measures assessing adult competency.
