The Competition and Evolution of Internet Portals: In the Perspective of Service Quality and Interpersonal Interactivity

After Yahoo Korea opened up the Internet portal market in Korea in 1997, the Korean portal market has experienced fierce competition in the beginning of 2000s. After that period, however, Korean portal market looks relatively stable with top five rankers forming oligopoly and shows that Arthur's claim of network externalities can be applied to the portal industry. In this paper, based on case study of the Korean portals we empirically examined how portals have developed and evolved. In this course, we also investigated the sources of portal's competitiveness. The findings of the research suggest that portals develop and evolve through the reflexive four stages in which they compete over different goals: 1) service quality, 2) critical mass of customers, 3) interpersonal interactivity, and 4) innovative service. According to this framework of portal's evolution, we show that top ranking portals in the present have succeeded in accomplishing the goals of each stage.
Construction of an Effective Web-based Change Management System

With the development of IT technologies, IT environment is making great change over life whole and is displacing business and business achievement systems of industry at the fast speed. The system which is proposed in this paper, supports environments to share codes, execution files and objects between project teams to maximize productivity and efficiency in web environments. Through impact assessment which is achieved at correction and development of existing programming codes by maintenance requirements, it minimizes obstacle occurrence factors and supports tracing obstacle sources. Through conversion the correction and development histories of existing sources and executable files between project teams to XML documents suitable to share in web, it stores them to relational database. In this paper, through impact assessment and change management for the correction and development of applications in the existing system development environments, we support efficient IT developments.
Design and Implementation of M-Commerce System-based on LBS

In this paper, m(mobile)-commerce system based on LBS is implemented. WIPI(Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability) that supports COD as a mobile VM(Virtual Machine) is used. These experimental results show that the system we proposed could be very efficient for CRM(Customer Relationship Management) and target management. And also, server load and connection time is improved by this system. From now on mobile commerce system based on LBS can be usable at various areas in ubiquitous environment.
The Effect of Mileage Program in e-Business on Brand Loyalty : Focused on the Mediating Roles of Trust and Relational Commitment

This paper examines empirically the effect of mileage program in e-Business on brand loyalty, and the mediating role of customers' trust and relational commitment. The results show that customer's benefits and convenience of the program significantly influences positively customer's trust. In addition, customer's trust also influences positively relational commitment, and relational commitment significantly influences positively brand loyalty. Thus, trust and relational commitment should be considered in the mileage program to improve the brand loyalty of internet shopping mall. Implications and limitations of this study are suggested.
Leveled Recommendation for Context-Aware Mobile Commerce

Recommender services are being used by an ever-increasing number of mobile commerce applications to help consumers find items to purchase with the use of the situated contexts. In this paper, we propose a new leveled recommendation for context-aware mobile commerce. This enables a consumer to obtain relevant information efficiently by using leveled recommendation, patterns and prefetching. This paper describes the method and application scenarios. Several experiments are performed and the results verify that the proposed method's recommendation performance is better than other existing methods.
A Study on Effects of Characteristics of Internet Shopping Mall on Customer Loyalty

The rapid diffusion of using internet and technical development becomes a driving force creating and developing the industries based on internet and made up an electronic commerce market which is a new form of business market. The object of this study is the business form between the consumer and the enterprise having a rapid growth nowadays. We classified enterprises' characteristic factors in internet shopping mall into product's characteristic factors on shopping mall, characteristic factors of the system on shopping mall and characteristic factors of the interaction between customers and shopping mall in the internet shopping mall. And then we investigated how these classified characteristic factors on shopping mall could influence on customer loyalty.
A Speculation on The Independence of Police Investigational Right In Terms of Public Law

Sixty years have passed since the police system was established in Korea. So far, there have been consistent discussions on independence of police investigational rights. Political powers have mentioned its independence as one of their public commitments and specifically, it has been a big issue in respect to establishment of the current participation government. The issues involved in investigational rights were derived from the regulations as follows: 'Prosecutors shall manage investigation(No. 195. the Criminal Procedure Act) and 'The police shall be guided by prosecutors in respect to investigation'(No. 195. the Criminal Procedure Act). President No Mu-hyun proposed he would take care of the issues involved in investigational rights at an interview. This study speculates investigational right systems of countries that follow continental law system and English law system and more valid investigational right system based on the guaranty of human rights and the principle of power division to find reasonable suggestions on independence issue.
A Review on The EIA System of Each Country and Its Implication

Since the announcement of the Rio Earth Charter in 1992, the Environmental Policy of each country has changed a lot. That is, it aims at compatibility of nature and humans, and preservation and development of environment. It has changed a goal from the past direct regulation and post-treatment to 'sustainable development'. To overcome world-wide environmental problems such as changing global climate, various political means such as economic incentives and pre-prevention policy such as environmentally-friendly productive process, effective use of resources, minimized generation of waste have been developed. As environmental problems which are growing serious began to threat survival of human beings, they must be globally managed rather than by a single country. Therefore, this study is to speculate the EIA System of each country for environmental protection based on such recognition of problems.
A Study on the Effects of Muscle Membrane in Tension Development by Computer Image

On contraction of the muscles, marked changes in X-ray reflections are observed, suggesting that conformational changes of contractile molecules and the movement of myosin heads during muscle contraction. It was found that the successive twitches decreased not only the time needed to the peak tension after the onset of stimulation but also the time needed to the maximum change of the X-ray intensity. However, the difference of the time between the peak tension and the maximum intensity change
is nearly the same at any twitch.
A Study on Design and Implementation of CAI System for Mammography Education in Radiological Technologist

The education system that based on objective data is needed for the beginning technologists in the department of radiology, development of the CAI system based on breast images is needed mammography field. So, in this study, we implemented CAI system based on mammography images for medical radiological technologists under Web using multimedia toolbook. This system is implemented under Web, more and more beginning technologists can have a remote-education beyond time and space, can save human power and time that needed due to hold in common of educational information, and cannot team mistaken breast images because of learning execution based on objective data. Also, implemented system brings a higher interest and a learning effect to medical radiological technologies because of hyper-media method that offered from toolbook. In the future, it will be needed a continuous acceptance of changing knowledge and it will be useful system for technologist in case of applying various examinations based mammography method of this study.
Implementation of Real-time Recognition System for Korean Sign Language

In this paper, we propose recognition system which tracks the unmarked hand of a person performing sign language in complex background. First of all, we measure entropy for the difference image between continuous frames. Using a color information that is similar to a skin color in candidate region which has high value, we extract hand region only from background image. On the extracted hand region, we detect a contour and recognize sign language by applying improved centroidal profile method. In the experimental results for 6 kinds of sing language movement, unlike existing methods, we can stably recognize sign language in complex background and illumination changes without marker. Also, it shows the recognition rate with more than 95% for person and
for each movement at 15 frames/second.
Motion Sensor Data Normalization Algorithm for Pedestrian Pattern Detection

In this paper, three axial accelerometer was used to develop a small sensor module, which was attached to human body to calculate the acceleration in gravity direction by human motion, when it was positioned in any direction. To measure its wearer's walking or running motion using the sensor module, the acquired sensor data was pre-processed to enable its quantitative analysis. The acquired digital data was transformed to orthogonal coordinate value in three dimension and calculated to be single scalar acceleration data in gravity direction and normalized to be physical unit value. The normalized sensor data was used to detect walking pattern and calculate their step counts. Developed algorithm was implemented in the form of PDA application. The accuracy of the developed sensor to detect step count was about 97% in laboratory experiment.
Shadow Region Detection Using Color Properties

In this paper, we present a shadow detection algorithm using the shadow features which appear in color images. Shadow regions have lower luminance and saturation than those of nearby regions, and is generally shown as dark colors. The regions are detected by means of analysing and applying their properties to images represented as the HSI color model. The proposed algorithm is consisted of two steps: at the first step, the candidate regions of shadow are found with using shadow features, and then, real shadow regions are detected only in candidate regions by using their information to reduce real objects and dark marks. The experimental results show that the algorithm is effective.
A Study on the Expression of Symbolism in the Production of Animation for the Original Work 'Grave of the Fireflies(火垂 墓)'

The appearance of digital culture swiftly has changed the culture in domestic and international arenas before and after the year 2004 and the image and animation have become two of the most important expression media in contemporary age. Among the Japanese animations that have demonstrated the rapid development of cartoon and animation in the world, the director Dakahata Isao's 'Graves of the Fireflies' that has influenced many works has been evaluated as one of the noticeable works that has a unique method and scenario dramatization in terms of producing the original novel into an animation. This study investigates the metaphor and symbolism shown in this work according to each sequence, divides the production ability in the work into three elements and applies them to the important elements such as camera, colors and mise-en-scene when the original work is depicted into image. It can be summarized in more detail as in the following: firstly, I study the rhythm of camera corresponding to the symbolism of the angle that the camera has and production; secondly, I analyze the artistic elements appeared in the process of expressing the original work into the image, especially the production for the colors and symbolism contained in them and the composition of screen. Thirdly, I analyze how effectively the atmosphere for the situations for the original work is expressed in animation with the aid of one of the image elements, mis-en-scene. It is expected that the analyzed findings will be effective as a way of overcoming the limitation of expressions that the original work in text and the study on these processes will become good examples to the relevant workers and will be the good references to the producers who are interested in the creation of animation in Korea.
3D Avatar Gesture Representation for Collaborative Virtual Environment Design

CVE(Collaborative Virtual Environment) is the virtually shared area where people cannot come together physically, but wish to discuss, collaborate on, or even dispute certain matters. In CVEs, in habitants are usually represented by humanoid embodiments, generally referred to as avatars. But most current graphical CVE systems fail to reflect the natural relationship between the avatar's gesture and the conversation that is taking place. More than 65% of the information exchanged during a person to person conversation is carried on the nonverbal band. Therefore, it is expected to be beneficial to provide such communication channels in CVEs in some way. To address this issue, this study proposes a scheme to represent avatar's gestures that can support the CVE users' communication. In the first level, this study classifies the non-verbal communication forms that can be applicable to avatar gesture design. In the second level, this study categorizes the body language according to the types of interaction with verbal language. And in the third level, this study examines gestures with relevant verbal expressions according to the body parts-from head to feet. One bodily gesture can be analyzed in the description of gesture representation, the meaning of gesture and the possible expressions, which can be used in gestural situation.
Digital Restoration of Ring-Pommeled Sword by Using Technology of 3D Shape Information Processing

Culture Technology is the basic technology which produces cultural contents in a narrow sense. All nations do their best in order to create new contents which can form international and cultural sympathy. If a variety of contents are created by applying Korean proper cultural heritages, they will be creative and competitive internationally. Therefore, technology of original cultural restoration is an essential and crucial skill. In this paper, 'gilt bronze dragon-phoenix ring-pommeled sword', a cultural heritage of baekje age, will be restored to the original form digitally on the basis of three-dimensional shape-information processing technology and the scientifically analyzed data. First of all, data from three-dimensional scanning is revised using stuffing and smoothing methods after sampling, extracting characteristics, and align. Then, they are modeled in a curved surface with NURBS and B-Spline. Secondly, textures are edited by estimating the color of components and the quality of materials, and then they are mapped. Original form model which was made was revised and corrected by specialists' examinations. The digitally revised ring-pommeled sword was combined with information technology, and it can be used to revise damaged cultural heritages by constructing formal database of ring-pommeled sword with regard to age, area and type. It can be also used as educational contents in archaeology or preservation science and cultural contents such as movies, broadcasts, games, animations and so on.
Sharing Treatment Information Between Family Members on the Web-based Telemedicine System

The paper's suggestion is Web based Tele-Medicine System will be open to public, low-budget featuring high quality of extensive medical services. It will keep a log of personal medical history to allow doctors to share information on patients and their families. This will result in the reduction of erroneous diagnosis and ensure successful e-business. On top of this, the new system will provide a solution for membership (client) management. It will combine online and offline medical services and be available 24 hours a day to anywhere users have Internet access, setting itself apart from the existing distance medical services system. Specially, The paper's suggestion is sharing medical treatment information between family members is suggested. This approach makes possible understanding physical constitution and environment between family members, and can result in bringing a faster treatment effect if some family member suffers from a similar disease.
Recognition of Colors of Image Code Using Hue and Saturation Values

With the increase of interest in ubiquitous computing, image code is attracting attention in various areas. Image code is important in ubiquitous computing in that it can complement or replace RFID (radio frequency identification) in quite a few areas as well as it is more economical. However, because of the difficulty in reading precise colors due to the severe distortion of colors, its application is quite restricted by far. In this paper, we present an efficient method of image code recognition including automatically locating the image code using the hue and saturation values. In our experiments, we use an image code whose design seems most practical among currently commercialized ones. This image code uses six safe colors, i.e., R, G, B, C, M, and Y. We tested for 72 true-color field images with the size of
pixels. With the color calibration based on the histogram, the localization accuracy was about 96%, and the accuracy of color classification for localized codes was about 91.28%. It took approximately 5 seconds to locate and recognize the image code on a PC with 2 GHz P4 CPU.
The Authentication Framework in Access Network based on Home Gateway

Today, home networking security shows the complicated and various characteristics of requirements for consideration because of the variety of information appliances and share of resources among them. Therefore, security framework to satisfy with security functions is arranged ,regardless of the variety of communication medium and protocols. Thus, we construct security framework for mobile host(or user) to securely control devices in home-network through the variety of suggested mechanism, with security mechanism to be available for future home networking model, and verified the performance of our model.
An Automatic Coding System of Korean Standard Industry/Occupation Code Using Example-based Learning

Standard industry and occupation code are usually assigned manually in Korean census. The manual coding is very labor intensive and expensive task. Furthermore, inconsistent coding is resulted from the ability of human experts and their working environments. This paper proposes an automatic code classification system which converts natural language responses on survey questionnaires into corresponding numeric codes by using manually constructed rule base and example-based machine learning. The system was trained with 400,000 records of which standard codes was assigned. It was evaluated with 10-fold cross validation and was tested with three code sets: population occupation set, industry set, and industry survey set. The proposed system showed 76.63%, 82.24 and 99.68% accuracy for each code set.
Virtual Lecture for Digital Logic Circuit Using Flash

In this paper, we developed an online lecture for digital logic circuit which is a basic course in electric/electronic education. Because of importance of the laboratory experiences in this course and to reflect industrial requests, we have selected most effective experimental examples in each chapter and inserted instructions for basic usags of ORCAD and digial clock design. Moreover, we developed cyber lab to design students' own circuit using Flash animation. Two features of this cyber lab are real-like graphics for devices and breadboards to improve reality and patented new IC chip objects for easy experiments, which help the students understand digital logic easily.
Low Power Scan Test Methodology Using Hybrid Adaptive Compression Algorithm

This paper presents a new test data compression and low power scan test method that can reduce test time and power consumption. A proposed method can reduce the scan-in power and test data volume using a modified scan cell reordering algorithm and hybrid adaptive encoding method. Hybrid test data compression method uses adaptively the Golomb codes and run-length codes according to length of runs in test data, which can reduce efficiently the test data volume compare to previous method. We apply a scan cell reordering technique to minimize the column hamming distance in scan vectors, which can reduce the scan-in power consumption and test data. Experimental results for ISCAS 89 benchmark circuits show that reduced test data and low power scan testing can be achieved in all cases. The proposed method showed an about a 17%-26% better compression ratio, 8%-22% better average power consumption and 13%-60% better peak power consumption than that of previous method.
A Study Design for Improvement of Interactivity at e-Learning

In this thesis promotion for interactivity is designed at online study. By cyber education with supposed promotion used for a feedback. From now on a special research of study design should be made for interactivity and effectiveness using human sensibility ergonomics.
An Efficient Loop Splitting Method on Single Loop with Non-uniform Dependences

This paper introduces three loop splitting methods such as minimum dependence distance method, Polychronopoulous' method, and first dependence method for exploiting parallelism from single loop which already developed. And it also Indicates their several problems. We extend the first dependence method which is the most effective one among three loop splitting methods, and propose more powerful loop splitting method to enhance parallelism on single loop. The proposed algorithm solves several problems, such as anti-flow dependence and g=gcd(a,c) > 1, that the first dependence method has.
Design and Implementation of SK-VM based Avatar E-mail Service System

These days, mobile technology is developing very fast. It has increased the usage of the Internet by mobile phones. Nowadays the avatar and game contents services are most popular in mobile phones using the Internet. In this paper, we propose a Client/Server system to combine the animation avatar and e-mail services on SK-VM which are different from simple avatar services. The server which consists of DB (database) module and mail management module is designed in order to manage the information about avatar and the user. The client is designed so as to show the email contents and avatar animation on the mobile phone. This model is intended to reduce the performance overhead on the client as much as possible. We expect that this module would be useful in the mobile phones with limited resources, although the technology is being developed very rapidly.
Design and Implementation of a Baseball Broadcasting System for PDA

With the rise of interest in sports and introduction of a five-day duty service, it is. increasing the desire for leisure and well-being recently. In this paper, 1 design and implement a baseball broadcasting system for PDAs to offer a sports broadcasting service using wireless network. The implemented baseball broadcasting system is composed of PDA clients, a relay reporter, and a relay server. Users can search and retrieve baseball-related information as well as relay broadcasting information using PDA.
Time Synchronization of the Monitoring Data for the VoIP User Assessment of Voice Quality Measurement

We study, in terms of VoIP user assessment of voice quality, the synchronization of measurement system is important. Commonly the synchronization system uses NTP(Network Time Protocol) or GPS(Global Positioning System), these synchronization method has time error of distance, system overhead of data processing, and system specialized clock error. we propose and implement the synchronization method to correct time error between two measurement system in the internet. So the time synchronization of systems can get time error, then user assessment of voice quality become reliable.
A Study on Layout Extraction from Internet Documents Through Xpath

Currently most Internet documents including news data are made based on predefined templates, but templates are usually formed only for main data and are not helpful for information retrieval against indexes, advertisements, header data etc. Templates in such forms are not appropriate when Internet documents are used as data for information retrieval. In order to process Internet documents in various areas of information retrieval, it is necessary to detect additional information such as advertisements and page indexes. Thus this study proposes a method of detecting the layout of web pages by identifying the characteristics and structure of block tags that affect the layout of web pages and calculating distances between web pages. As a result of experiment, we can successfully extract 640 documents from 1000 samples and obtain 64% recall rate. This method is purposed to reduce the cost of web document automatic processing and improve its efficiency through applying the method to document preprocessing of information retrieval such as data extraction and document summarization.
Distributed Implementation of Delay Guaranteed Fair Queueing(DGFQ) in Multimedia Ad Hoc Wireless Networks

The multimedia ad hoc wireless network is quite an attractive issue since it offers a flexible solution to enable delivery of multimedia services to mobile end users without fixed backbone networks. However, with the unique design challenges of ad hoc wireless networks, it is a non-trivial issue to provide bounded delay guarantee, with fair share of resources. In this paper, we proposed distributed implementation of the delay guaranteed fair queueing (DGFQ) scheme in multimedia ad hoc wireless networks. Through the the results of performance evaluation, we can conclude that DGFQ also performs well to control bounded delay in multimedia ad hoc wireless networks.
Advanced E-Model for VoIP Call Quality Assessment

In this paper, an advanced E-Model was proposed in order to overcome disadvantages of conventional method. A new model makes the accurate VoIP call quality assessment possible by applying the burst packet loss and recency effect. In order to assess the performance of this advanced E-Model, we gained the estimated MOS value from NR(Network R) value and UR(User R) value resulted from the burst packet loss values by Gilbert Model. Through simulations and comparisons with conventional models such as MOS, PESQ, and I-Model, we reach a conclusion that advanced E-Model is more accurate and reliable method than conventional models.
