Robust Face Recognition System using AAM and Gabor Feature Vectors

In this paper, we propose a face recognition system using AAM and Gabor feature vectors. EBGM, which is prominent among face recognition algorithms employing Gabor feature vectors, requires localization of facial feature points where Gabor feature vectors are extracted. However, localization of facial feature points employed in EBGM is based on Gator jet similarity and is sensitive to initial points. Wrong localization of facial feature points affects face recognition rate. AAM is known to be successfully applied to localization of facial feature points. In this paper, we propose a facial feature point localization method which first roughly estimate facial feature points using AAM and refine facial feature points using Gabor jet similarity-based localization method with initial points set by the facial feature points estimated from AAM, and propose a face recognition system based on the proposed localization method. It is verified through experiments that the proposed face recognition system using the combined localization performs better than the conventional face recognition system using the Gabor similarity-based localization only like EBGM.
Robust Face Alignment using Progressive AAM

AAM has been successfully applied to face alignment, but its performance is very sensitive to initial values. In this paper, we propose a face alignment method using progressive AAM. The proposed method consists of two stages; modelling and relation derivation stage and fitting stage. Modelling and relation derivation stage first builds two AAM models; the inner face AAM model and the whole face AAM model and then derive the relation matrix between the inner face AAM model parameter vector and the whole face AAM model parameter vector. The fitting stage is processed progressively in two phases. In the first phase, the proposed method finds the feature parameters for the inner facial feature points of a new face, and then in the second phase it localizes the whole facial feature points of the new face using the initial values estimated utilizing the inner feature parameters obtained in the first phase and the relation matrix obtained in the first stage. Through experiments, it is verified that the proposed progressive AAM-based face alignment method is more robust with respect to pose, and face background than the conventional basic AAM-based face alignment.
Image Segmentation Using Anisotropic Diffusion Based on Diagonal Pixels

Anisotropic diffusion is one of the widely used techniques in the field of image segmentation. In the conventional anisotropic diffusion -, usually 4-neighborhood directions are used: north, south, west and east, except the image diagonal directions, which results in the loss of image details and causes false contours. Existing methods for image segmentation using conventional anisotroplc diffusion can't preserve contour information, or noises with high gradients become more salient as the umber of times of the diffusion increases, resulting in over-segmentation when applied to watershed. In this paper, to overcome the shortcoming of the conventional anisotropic diffusion method, a new arusotropic diffusion method based on diagonal edges is proposed. And a method of watershed segmentation is applied to the proposed method. Experimental results show that the process time of the proposed method including diagonal edges over conventional methods can be up to 2 times faster and the Circle image quality improvement can be better up to
. Experiments also show that images are segmented very effectively without over segmentation.
Autonomous Driving System for Advanced Safety Vehicle

This paper is concerned with development of system to detect an obstructive vehicle which is an essential prerequisite for autonomous driving system of ASV(Advanced Safety Vehicle). First, the boundary of driving lanes is detected by a Kalman filter through the front image obtained by a CCD camera. Then, lanes are recognized by regression analysis of the detected boundary. Second, parameters of road curvature within the detected lane are used as input in error-BP algorithm to recognize the driving direction. Finally, an obstructive vehicle that enters into the detection region can be detected through setting detection fields of the front and lateral side. The experimental results showed that the proposed system has high accuracy more than 90% in the recognition rate of driving direction and the detection rate of an obstructive vehicle.
Multiple Objection and Tracking based on Morphological Region Merging from Real-time Video Sequences

In this paper, we propose an efficient method for detecting and tracking multiple moving objects based on morphological region merging from real-time video sequences. The proposed approach consists of adaptive threshold extraction, morphological region merging and detecting and tracking of objects. Firstly, input frame is separated into moving regions and static regions using the difference of images between two consecutive frames. Secondly, objects are segmented with a reference background image and adaptive threshold values, then, the segmentation result is refined by morphological region merge algorithm. Lastly, each object segmented in a previous step is assigned a consistent identification over time, based on its spatio-temporal information. The experimental results show that a proposed method is efficient and useful in terms of real-time multiple objects detecting and tracking.
Design and Implementation of Real-Time Operating System for Sensor Networks

Recently microcontrollers are being used in sensor networks to handle sophisticated control and monitoring activities. As applications become more sophisticated, their design and development processes become more complex which consequently necessitates the use of an operating system to manage the complexity and provide an abstraction for portability of code. This paper presents a Low-power real-time operating system, called UbiFOS-USN, designed for sensor networks. We present some of the features that make UbiFOS-USN appropriate especially for small, low-cost microcontrollers typically found in sensor networks. Through experimental results, we show that UbiFOS-USN is quite efficient for a sensor network, both in terms of system performance and memory requirement.
Traffic Sign Area Detection System Based on Color Processing Mechanism of Human

The traffic sign on the road should be easy to distinguishable even from far, and should be recognized in a short time. As traffic sign is a very important object which provides important information for the drivers to enhance safety, it has to attract human's attention among any other objects on the road. This paper proposes a new method of detecting the area of traffic sign, which uses attention module on the assumption that we attention our gaze on the traffic sign at first among other objects when we drive a car. In this paper, we analyze the previous studies of psycophysical and physiological results to get what kind of features are used in the process of human's object recognition, especially color processing, and with these results we detected the area of traffic sign. Various kinds of traffic sign images were tested, and the results showed good quality(average 97.8% success).
A Probabilistic Context Sensitive Rewriting Method for Effective Transliteration Variants Generation

An information retrieval system, using exact match, needs preprocessing or query expansion to generate transliteration variants in order to search foreign word transliteration variants in the documents. This paper proposes an effective method to generate other transliteration variants from a given transliteration. Because simple rewriting of confused characters produces too many false variants, the proposed method controls the generation priority by learning confusion patterns from real uses and calculating their probability. Especially, the left and right context of a pattern is considered, and local rewriting probability and global rewriting probability are calculated to produce more probable variants in earlier stage. The experimental result showed that the method was very effective by showing more than 80% recall with top 20 generations for a transliteration variants set collected from KT SET 2.0.
Survey: Tabletop Display Techniques for Multi-Touch Recognition

Recently, the researches based on vision about user attention and action awareness are being pushed actively for human computer interaction. Among them, various applications of tabletop display system are developed more in accordance with touch sensing technique, co-located and collaborative work. Formerly, although supported only one user, support multi-user at present. Therefore, collaborative work and interaction of four elements (human, computer, displayed objects, physical objects) that is ultimate goal of tabletop display are realizable. Generally, tabletop display system designs according to four key aspects. 1)multi-touch interaction using bare hands. 2)implementation of collaborative work, simultaneous user interaction. 3)direct touch interaction. 4)use of physical objects as an interaction tool. In this paper, we describe a critical analysis of the state-of-the-art in advanced multi-touch sensing techniques for tabletop display system according to the four methods: vision based method, non-vision based method, top-down projection system and rear projection system. And we also discuss some problems and practical applications in the research field.
Low Power Cryptographic Design based on Circuit Size Reduction

This paper presented a low power design of a 32bit block cypher processor reduced from the original 128bit architecture. The primary purpose of this research is to evaluate physical implementation results rather than theoretical aspects. The data path and diffusion function of the processor were reduced to accommodate the smaller hardware size. As a running example demonstrating the design approach, we employed a modified ARIA algorithm having four S-boxes. The proposed 32bit ARIA processor comprises 13,893 gates which is 68.25% smaller than the original 128bit structure. The design was synthesized and verified based on the standard cell library of the MagnaChip's 0.35um CMOS Process. A transistor level power simulation shows that the power consumption of the proposed processor reduced to 61.4mW, which is 9.7% of the original 128bit design. The low power design of the block cypher Processor would be essential for improving security of battery-less wireless sensor networks or RFID.
Transmission Algorithm with QoS Consideration in Reliable MPEG System

Currently, multimedia stream services are provided in various network environments such as wireless networks. It is crucial to address QoS problem for multimedia service in heterogeneous networks. This paper suggests the scheme to increase the efficiency for the transmission of multimedia data. We also propose the adaptive algorithm that switch between UDP and TCP based on the size of the transmitted multimedia data. In addition, it presents the method that duplicates the multimedia data for the efficiency of transmission. We designed the MPEG stream service and conducted the simulation to verify our adaptive MPEG stream service.
Classifying Color Codes Via k-Mean Clustering and L*a*b* Color Model

To reduce the effect of color distortions on reading colors, it is more desirable to statistically process as many pixels in the individual color region as possible. This process may require segmentation, which usually requires edge detection. However, edges in color codes can be disconnected due to various distortions such as dark current, color cross, zipper effect, shade and reflection, to name a few. Edge linking is also a difficult process. In this paper, k-means clustering was performed on the images where edge detectors failed segmentation. Experiments were conducted on 311 images taken in different environments with different cameras. The primary and secondary colors were randomly selected for each color code region. While segmentation rate by edge detectors was 89.4%, the proposed method increased it to 99.4%. Color recognition was performed based on hue, a*, and b* components, with the accuracy of 100% for the successfully segmented cases.
Realtime Facial Expression Control and Projection of Facial Motion Data using Locally Linear Embedding

This paper describes methodology that enables animators to create the facial expression animations and to control the facial expressions in real-time by reusing motion capture datas. In order to achieve this, we fix a facial expression state expression method to express facial states based on facial motion data. In addition, by distributing facial expressions into intuitive space using LLE algorithm, it is possible to create the animations or to control the expressions in real-time from facial expression space using user interface. In this paper, approximately 2400 facial expression frames are used to generate facial expression space. In addition, by navigating facial expression space projected on the 2-dimensional plane, it is possible to create the animations or to control the expressions of 3-dimensional avatars in real-time by selecting a series of expressions from facial expression space. In order to distribute approximately 2400 facial expression data into intuitional space, there is need to represents the state of each expressions from facial expression frames. In order to achieve this, the distance matrix that presents the distances between pairs of feature points on the faces, is used. In order to distribute this datas, LLE algorithm is used for visualization in 2-dimensional plane. Animators are told to control facial expressions or to create animations when using the user interface of this system. This paper evaluates the results of the experiment.
Novel Analysis of Waveguide Stub Structure Using Iterative Green's Function Method

An iterative Green's function method (IGFM) is introduced in order to analyze complex electromagnetic waveguide stub structures in view of a university student. The IGFM utilizes a Green's function approach and an regional iteration scheme. A physical iteration mechanism with simple mathematical equations facilitates clear formulations of the IGFM. Scattering characteristics of a standard E-plane T-junction stub in a parallel-plate waveguide are theoretically investigated in terms of the IGFM. Numerical computations illustrate the characteristics of reflection and transmission powers versus frequency.
Development of Korean Music Multimedia Contents for Preschooler - With Priority to Animation -

Traditional music education for infants is the most important step of forming human knowledge. Since their rapid development of intelligence and emotion has an educational value not only it improves the human knowledge but also it makes infants understand the unique emotion of Korean people. Under the several circumstances, however, we have no enough contents for traditional music education. Thus, by researching and analyzing the existing educational contents and complementing them properly for multimedia environment as a form of animation, we perform a series of experiments to infants who are attending to the kindergarten with interactive animations which are familiar with infants. Infants become interested in the contents and after the lesson of the short bamboo flute content, they show the clear improvements for the playing on a musical instrument. This proves that the Korean music educational content realized with animation can be an alternative plan to improve the educational effect by causing enjoyment and interest of infants.
Design of Authoring tool for Synchronizing Multimedia Educational Contents

In existing educational systems, it is impossible to synchronize multimedia contents and it is required additional client applications. SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) is based on XML which allows to arrange multimedia objects temporally and spatially, and it can represent multimedia effectively on Web browsers. It is possible to serve the high-quality multimedia on Web browsers by applying SMIL to the previous Web-based educational contents without any client applications. In this paper, we propose the method of developing multimedia educational contents applied by SMIL, and design an authoring tool with a function of transforming SMIL documents to XHTML documents. The tool allows common users to use easily without any plug-ins or applications.
Development of Dialogue-based Feedback System to Improve Flow Learning in e-Learning Environment

In the actual classroom the so-called flow learning is able to motivate the students through face-to-face feedback, and to meet their needs for educational achievement. By contrast, the so-called e-learning method falls short of the satisfactory level of real-life interaction, which makes many learners drop out or give up on their learning. In order to better the e-learning environment, this study presents a dialogue-based feedback system that improves the flow learning of the learners' in the classroom. This newly developed system was applied at the actual school. The result is that the experimented group improved its flow learning, compared with the controlled group. In the former group, each individual showed some consciousness of objective and challenge following the concrete feedback. That is to say, this system enhances the attitude of an active participation and induces the flow learning, thanks to the dialogue-based feedback and the sustained interest in learning. In conclusion, the significance of this study lies in suggesting the direction of a new learning method development in the e-learning environment.
The Effects of Learner's Metacognition and Scaffolding Types on Problem Solving Process in Web-based PBL

This study examines the effects of learner's metacognition and scaffolding types on problem solving processes by examined 49 undergraduates to identify effective scaffolding type in Web-based PBL. This study classifies problem solving processes as defining the problem, developing solutions, making selections and justifications for the Proposed solution(s), and monitoring the solution. Moreover, it classifies scaffolding types as subject-related scaffolding and process-related scaffolding. As a result, the upper metacognition group showed higher performance only in monitoring solutions than the lower metacognioon group. This study also showed that offered scaffolding effects are not statistically significant. However, the lower metacognition group showed higher performance when subject-related scaffolding was offered and the upper metacognition group showed higher performance when process-related scaffolding was offered in making selections and justifications for the proposed solution(s) and monitoring solution. This study, based on the result of research, can partially verify the effects of learner's metacognition on problem solving processes and interaction effects between scaffolding and metacogniton in Web-based PBL.
Improving Disaster Response System Using Network - Focused on Korea and Japan's Disaster Cases -

The present study purposed to establish a network for building an efficient disaster response system and for this purpose, we compared cases of disaster response in Japan and Korea. In Japan, disasters are responded jointly through the network of the central government, local self governing bodies and non governmental organizations. In Korea, however, the cooperative network among different areas is weak and this is aggravating damages caused by disasters. That is, in Korea, disaster response services have been mainly carried out by the public sector. The public sector can operate a powerful disaster management system using its extensive management resources, compelling power, and legal authorities. However, it was found that, due to the characteristics of contemporary society, efforts by the public sector including the central government and the local self government bodies have limitations in managing disasters effectively. Thus, for efficient disaster response in Korea, it is urgently required to establish a national disaster response network as well as a private sector cooperation system and to induce NGOs to participate in the disaster response system through institutional devices.
Efficiency Improvement about Digital Evidence Investigation in Korea

Recently investigation institutions have found the clue leading to solution of the problem by digital evidence. Digital medium is used extensively in real life. Accordingly, offender is leaving from traces of crime to digital form. But, Korea's digital evidence investigation is low level yet. Definite legislation about digital evidence is not readied in present our country. And professional investigation manpower about digital evidence is insufficient. These problem may have to be supplemented urgently. Systematic, technological supporting is required. Specialize and discussed digital evidence investigation's controversial point and capacity reinforcement way for efficient confrontation in cyber crime who is diversified gradually in text.
Comparative Study on Value Systems of Korean and American Police Officers

Through contemporary researches on policing, individual employees in law enforcement agencies has gained more and more attention from researchers and police organization managers. Unfortunately an important but largely ignored area of current research on individual police officers concerns the value orientations obtaining among Korean police officers. And during last five decades or so, no research has been done on this issue. Studying individual value orientations is important because a substantial body of research indicates that particular patterns of value orientation predict world views and hence can in turn predict behavior at the workplace and behavioral predispositions on salient social issues. Therefore in this research, the authors intended to answer these issues. (1) What are the characteristics of value orientations among Korean police officers. (2) Is there any differences between Korean and American police officers on the value orientations among them.
Analysis of User Interface Evaluation in Map Information Service on Web

As information radically increases owing to the proliferation of Internet, users are highly interested in information design that enables them to easily approach the information desired by them and shows the unsystematic information in summarized and recognizable information by rearrangement. In the problem, general users could not easily recognize such information design, because it was not designed on the basis of understanding the situation where users actually contacted, but used the method that visualized based on the result which emphasized the aspect of system. Studying map information retrieval site for improvement of efficiency of information delivery, this research analyzed user interface design problems of map information service through evaluation list acquired by investigating user interface design principle and mutually comparing with information visualization system evaluation standard.

Local festival can be defined as the essence of the local culture as it represents the lifestyle and culture of the people in the community intensively and implicatively. The local festival actives the regional economy, enhances the community image, harmonizes the community residences, and gives the good opportunity for the education of the culture mind. Study on the Tourism Information System using UCC

It is widely recognized that tourism information can be defined as useful and reliable reference which significantly influences the traveler's decision making. As the tourism organizations with online network, along with information system offer an array of information to the public, the passengers more frequently seek and search needed information via internet. However, currently existing tourism contents are mainly designed for suppliers, being viewed by customers perspective, those contents do not reflect the clients inquiries and needs. With the advent of consumer based technology and favorable environment, current tourism-related web sites show some changes from tourism suppliers to User-Created Contents(UCC). The major purpose of this research is to identify the tourism contents provided by both supplier and tourists themselves. Additionally, this paper also indicates research issues for further study.

When reviewing animation based on a mythical motive, the mythical imaginary power has been dependent only on audio visual senses thereby resorting to a fantasy nature regardless of reality, or there has been too much emphasis on an educational message and animation has been utilized as a conflicting composition between good and evil. Therefore, this thesis reviewed 1) whether the author's consciousness was reflected in animation according to the contemporary interpretation of mythical imaginary power and 2) whether the author included an internal meaning of a universal subject by having a short animation
that was produced by actively utilizing a mythical motive as a text. Also, based on the analysis, the study deduced the conclusion that the most important thing in animation based on a mythical motive is the author's consciousness that reinterprets the theme of 'universality' from a contemporary perspective before expressing the mythical objects through the senses such as by a brilliant image and sound. The products of such an analysis are supposed to solve the problem over how mythical factors need to be applied and utilized in creating animation.
Expression and Reader Cognition of Japanese Comics Character

As for comics and animation, the specific gravity came to become still larger in all the art fields together with the importance in various image media now which is useful and goes the time of the 21st century new media. Especially the demand of users to the vision culture which develops day by day, Sensitivity Engineering Department is trying to realize the necessity for a sensitivity design acutely together. The influence of the comics which have toxicity most also in Japanese culture in a geographical position like South Korea on it, and animation is the actual condition in the reason which has reached from youth universally to the layer for years, to be inquired systematic to a Korean comics language. This research was conducted as we thought sufficient study on various situations are required, and among them for the research of expressions of cartoons's characters, we've divided the expressions of characters that comes out in Japanese cartoons into categories of 'happiness, anger, sadness, pleasure' and 'fear, astonishment and dislike' and based on these categories, we've drawn out the minimum elements to express emotions in cartoon and prepared image-map by relating them with languages that express emotions of people and based on this, we've made a calculating tools on how our readers would recognize the expression languages. Samples of Japanese cartoons of which we've chosen for the purpose of drawing out the elements of expressions were limited to only published cartoons and we've made a foot steps for expression analysis of animation characters in the future.
Use of Licensing for Animation Business Promotion

This study considers the use of licensing for One source-Multi use revitalization for high profitability in domestic animation industry. To grasp the controversial point in domestic licensing case and establish success point through the study for expansion success case in USA and Japan. Workers in domestic animation industry vaguely think 'Licensing will be succeed naturally, when animation product gets the fame.' However, it is very important to consider licensing in making plan to reflect creating animation product. And also licensing property in included in animation product should have competitiveness, premise understanding of consumption type in relation industry market. Finally, it is necessary to expand by stage better than synchronistical way and management in marketing way, it should be accomplished to manage through technical know-how management system and relation the strategy systematic.
