Jo, Hyun-Gyu ; Lee, Ki-Soo ; Jang, Choon-Seo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 8, issue 5, 2008, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.001
The centralized conference architecture, one of the conference architectures in SIP(Session Initiation Protocol) environment, is widely used as it has the advantage of conference management and control. However it has been limited in scalability. Therefore we have proposed an efficient distributed conference architecture to improve scalability of centralized conference model. In our architecture, if the number of conference participants exceeds the predefined maximum number, a new conference server is added to the conference dynamically. In this case, the focus of existing server acts as primary focus and the focus of added server acts as secondary focus, and dynamic reallocation of participants between servers is done to equally divide the loads. This process is repeated as the number of conference participants increases. For this behavior, we have proposed procedure of adding the conference server, SIP call signal exchange, signaling procedure for RTP(Real Time Transport Protocol) sessions between conference servers, and procedure of conference event package between conference servers. The performance of our proposed model is evaluated by experiments.

Web-services have originally been devised to share information as open services. In connection with it, hacking incidents have surged. Currently, Web-log analysis plays a crucial clue role in detecting Web-hacking. A growing number of cases are really related to perceiving and improving the weakness of Web-services based on Web-log analysis. Such as this, Web-log analysis plays a central role in finding out problems that Web has. Hence, Our research thesis suggests Web-DoS-hacking detective technique In the process of detecting such problems through SOM algorithm, the emergence frequency of BMU(Best Matching Unit) was studied, assuming the unit with the highest emergence frequency, as abnormal, and the problem- detection technique was recommended through the comparison of what's called BMU as input data.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.019
In this paper, we implemented an intelligent home service robot system which alerts users to danger by wireless internet platforms for interoperability(WIPI) of a cellular phone. This paper discusses the three parts of the system: robot, middleware and mobile system. First, the robot consists of a gas sensor, a fire detector, ultrasonic sensors, motors, a camera and a Bluetooth module. The robot perceives various danger circumstances. Second, the middleware connects the robot and the mobile system. It monitors the robot and sends emergency notification SMS message to the user's cellular phone if in danger. Third, the mobile system sends commands which control the robot using TCP/IP protocol. The proposed scheme is to control the sensors of the robot part through Atmega 128 processor, and the robot and middleware parts will be installed in the household, and will be controled by mobile part from the outside.
Motion Vector Recovery Scheme for H.264/AVC
Son, Nam-Rye ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 8, issue 5, 2008, Pages 29~37
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.029
To transmit video bit stream over low bandwidth such as wireless channel, high compression algorithm like H.264 codec is exploited. In transmitting high compressed video bit-stream over low bandwidth, packet loss causes severe degradation in image quality. In this paper, a new algorithm for recovery of missing or erroneous motion vector is proposed. Considering that the missing or erroneous motion vectors in blocks are closely correlated with those of neighboring blocks. Motion vector of neighboring blocks are clustered according to average linkage algorithm clustering and a representative value for each cluster is determined to obtain the candidate motion vector sets. As a result, simulation results show that the proposed method dramatically improves processing time compared to existing H.264/AVC. Also the proposed method is similar to existing H.264/AVC in terms of visual quality.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.038
As the sensibility engineering has become a mainstream information tool, searching answers has become crucial as well. Because the collaborative filtering refers to partial users information who have the similar preference, it tends to ignore the rest. In this paper, we propose the human sensibility ergonomic apparel coordination supporting method using the genetic algorithm. This proposed method calculates evaluation values using fitness function based the genetic algorithm, and gathers through a-cut. To estimate the performance, the suggested method is compared with the existing methods in the questionnaire dataset. The results have shown that the proposed method significantly outperforms the accuracy than the previous methods.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.044
Pattern matching and pattern searching in time series data have been active issues in a number of disciplines. This paper suggests a novel pattern matching technology which can be used in the field of stock market analysis as well as in forecasting stock market trend. First, we define conceptual patterns, and extract data forming each pattern from given time series, and then generate learning model using Hidden Markov Model. The results show that the context-based pattern matching makes the matching more accountable and the method would be effectively used in real world applications. This is because the pattern for new data sequence carries not only the matching itself but also a given context in which the data implies.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.052
A simple Time Division Multiplex(TDM) switching system which has been widely in satellite networks provides any size of bandwidth for a number of low bandwidth subscribers by allocating proper number of time slots in a frame. In this paper, we propose a new approach based on graph coloring model for efficient time slot assignment algorithm in contrast to network flow model in previous works. When the frame length of an initial matrix of time slot requests is 2's power, this matrix is divided into two matrices of time slot requests using binary divide and conquer method based on the graph coloring model. This process is continued until resulting matrices of time slot requests are of length one. While the most efficient algorithm proposed in the literature has time complexity of
, the time complexity of the proposed algorithm is
, where N is the number of input/output links and L is the number of time slot alloted to each link in the frame.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.061
It is often claimed that the descriptive way of documentation is insufficient to define software requirements as being unambiguous. This is caused by not only the difference of knowledge and understanding of the stakeholder as to system but also the difference in the way of documentation like method of representation as well as depth of description. The study explains the process and results of applying a diagraming tool like UML to improve the requirements of GLORY(GLObal Resource management sYstem) initially defined in descriptive way. Especially, the result shows that the requirements are more accurately improved with the good hierarchies and well-leveled functionalities, with the help of diagraming tool, expecting easy maintenance of requirements and prevention of omission of requirements.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 8, issue 5, 2008, Pages 72~81
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.072
High Performance DSP usually supports cache and internal memory. For an optimal implementation of a multimedia stream application on such a high performance DSP, one needs to utilize the cache and internal memory efficiently. In this paper, we investigate performance analysis of cache, and internal memory configuration and placement necessary to achieve an optimal implementation of multimedia stream applications like motion picture encoder on high performance DSP, TMS320C6000 series, and propose strategies to improve performance for cache and internal memory placement. From the results of analysis and experiments, it is verified that 2-way L2 cache configuration with the remaining memory configured as internal memory shows relatively good performance. Also, it is shown that L1P cache hit rate is enhanced when frequently called routines and routines having caller-callee relationships with them are continuously placed in the internal memory and that L1D cache hit rate is enhanced by the simple change of the data size. The results in the paper are expected to contribute to the optimal implementation of multimedia stream applications on high performance DSPs.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 8, issue 5, 2008, Pages 94~103
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.094
In this paper, we adapt the
-means clustering technique to segmenting a given 3D mesh. In order to avoid the locally minimal convergence and speed up the computing time, first we extract sharp vertices from the mesh by analysing its curvature and convexity that respectively reflect the local and global geometric characteristics from the viewpoint of cognitive science. Next the sharp vertices are partitioned into
clusters by iterated converging with the
-means clustering method based on the geodesic distance instead of the Euclidean distance between each pair of the sharp vertices. For obtaining the effective result of
-means clustering method, it is crucial to assign an initial value to
appropriately. Hence, we automatically compute a reasonable number of clusters as an initial value of
. Finally the mesh segmentation is completed by merging other vertices except the sharp vertices into the nearest cluster by geodesic distance.

Researcher tried to argue the possibility of application of visual communication design adapting the marketing environment change on this paper. What is ICD (Integrated Communication Design)? This is a new attempt to treat these common marketing methods, such as, C, I, B, I, TV commercials, newspaper commercials, posters, brochures, DM, package designing, POP, outdoor visual information, web sites etc, as a whole. And no longer treat them as separate pieces as we were doing previously. So I started this research with positive analysis which already has been theoretically discussed based on the documents and researches on the same subject. Through this attempt I tried to examine the possibility of application of ICD. Conclusively, I developed and suggest named the ICD model, by which we could explain the current marketing communication design effort more holistically then ever.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.134
A city is the center of all the economic activities, politics, administration and creation of cultures, and it is also a social community. It is also an environment in which human beings live and act, and thus, psychological and emotional pleasure are greatly demanded. Facilities of cities, buildings and harmonizing each and every structures with the environment sets up the image and the identity of a city because they are the most important visual structuring elements in cityscapes. Currently, most of the cities in Korea including Seoul, are in discordance with their natural environment because of all different sorts of buildings and signboards are jumbled up close together. The traditional, local colors have disappeared form those cities and all cities look the same. It is hard to find traditional beauty and identities of the cities in Korea, and the Korean cities are not even close to the threshold of other foreign cities. In order to solve these problems, there is a dire need of improving the modification of cityscapes in the long run. This research aims to understand the current abstruse situation Korean cities are in, analyze their problems and describe actual methods of improving those cities so that they can have a more ordered and organized structures. Also, this research should be used as a data of future researches based on citiscapes.

Kiosk is an unmanned information system arranged in public places or commercial spaces so that a user may utilize information conveniently. Unlike a personal computer, it targets varied users' brackets, so we have to consider a user's characteristic in designing Kiosk Interface. However, in reality, the Kiosks of public places like subway stations are of Interface Design without considering users and become almost useless with serviceability falling. In this study, we attempt to point out such problems and suggest the concept as to the Interface Design in the public places for a more positive promotion method. For this purpose, we are about to look into the concept of Tangible Interaction and Interspace and the recreation experienced in the process of interaction between a human and a computer and study the sportive Kiosk Interface Design in the Interspace using the principle of the Tangible Interaction. For the conceptual Model in this study, we referred to ARTCOM(ART+COM) Project.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 8, issue 5, 2008, Pages 165~175
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.165
With the beginning of the 21st century, the rapid change of the environment of education makes the universities eager to develop a new image of themselves (i.e. image marketing). Character, one of the image marketing items, plays an important role for improving the image of universities by connecting the inner members more firmly, preserving the tradition of the university and being used as an advertising instrument. Considering these important roles, universities are focusing on designing character in order to express their identity and image efficiently. In this study, I surveyed the characters of universities and examined that these characters are reflecting the image of their universities, working on unity and harmony of the members and establishing the identity of each university properly. At the same time, I analyzed the relation between characters and symbols of universities. I expect that familiar and identified characters can be an essential element in improving the image of universities by giving visual advertising effects and informing the image of universities distinctively.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 8, issue 5, 2008, Pages 260~267
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.5.260
The portfolio provides a method which can properly evaluate the student's long term period of learning and growth, and this allows students to have practical learning through self-reflection. However, following the realities of portfolio's operation, the portfolio is being operated formally just once only for the evaluation due to the difficulty of long custody and its time-consuming process. In this paper, after grasping the overall process of learning and the result of growth, we design the 'e-portfolio' which combines both learning and evaluation in order to minimize the physical constraint factors along with operating portfolio. After operating our newly designed 'e-portfolio' based on blog in order to verify it's effect, we found the meaningful changes in student's academic achievement and the positive possibility of its application to teachers. Therefore, with the operation of our suggested 'e-portfolio', we are expecting progressed and integrated portfolio education which combines the function of the learning and the evaluation.
