Model-based Inter-view Mismatch Compensation Algorithm for Multi-view Video Coding
Jeon, Yeong-Il ; Lee, Si-Woong ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 8, issue 7, 2008, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.7.001
In this paper, an algorithm to compensate the inter-view mismatch in the multi-view video according to the different characteristics of cameras is presented. Interview mismatches make it difficult to merge the multi-view images and decrease the coding performance. So, a preprocessing operation to compensate the mismatches is requisite in the multi-view video coding. It is shown that the mismatch in the outputs of multi-view cameras with different electro-optical transfer functions can be approximated with a linear model of a gain and an offset. In addition, a new algorithm for estimating and compensating the inter-view mismatch based on the detection of the overlapped region is presented. Experimental results using various rectified stereo images show that the proposed method compensates inter-view mismatches more accurately compared to the conventional approach.

The design and implementation of the interaction for tangible user interfaces require in-depth knowledge in many different disciplines, such as device control, sensing and calibrating devices, interaction design, low-level programming, and performance tuning. Many trial and error iterations are needed to determine the proper combination of the interaction techniques while using available interaction devices and considering the characteristics of contents. As a result, it takes too much effort and time to achieve maximum usability. This paper introduces a tangible user-interface platform, which is fabricated using various hardware devices and an XML-based authoring tool, which is developed in order to relieve content creators of the burden of the above difficulties. Finally, we demonstrate our work by illustrating some example contents.

Due to spread of movies or online games which are applied with computer animation techniques, we can easily see scenes where numerous characters appear. In the case of large-scale crowd animation, if one were to increase reality of the scene, features of system would be lowered, and if one were to increase functioning of system, reality of the scene would be lowered. In realizing large-scale crowd animation with seafloor environment as background, the paper analyzed and applied elements that affect behavioral types of fishes; and by using concept of crowd, the paper enabled each group or object to control their behavioral type; by comparing and contrasting real-time calculation method as calculation method for animation and hybrid calculation method which is mixed calculation method, the paper seeks to find a method that increases functioning of the system while also expresses natural scenes.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.7.035
The proposed scheme in this paper can search multi-links efficiently using the depth priority method based on hop count instead of searching the all links. To do this, we proposed a modified line segment scheme using two line segment method. The scheme represents two points which consist of delay-bandwidth pair to reduce topology information and provide a flexibility to the multiple-links aggregation. And we apply it to current spanning tree topology aggregation. To evaluate performance of the proposed scheme, we compare/analyze the current method with the proposed scheme with respect to call success rate, access time and crankback rate. Simulation result analysis showed the proposed spanning tree topology aggregation scheme presents the better performance than existing scheme.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.7.043
The AODV routing algorithm in a mobile ad-hoc networks broadcasts RREQ packet to find a route from a source to a destination. An attacker node may intercept a RREQ packet and attack by falsifying a field in that packet. In this paper, we propose a simply modified method which can protect a routing table from an attack to falsify the hop count field in the RREQ packet. When establishing a connection between a source and a destination, we update routing table of each node on the connection based on minimum delay instead of minimum hop count. By doing this, we can protect routing table from an attack to falsify a hop count Our simulation is implemented in Network Simulator(NS-2). We analyze how an attacker affects the mobile ad-hoc networks. The result of the simulation shows that the proposed mechanism transfers a data securely.

The overlay multicast that has been recently presented as an alternative for the IP multicast has been getting much attention by the advancement of network techniques to enforce routing in application-levels. In this paper, we verified the efficiency of Internet broadcasting through comparing latency time of TBCP with mOBCP that have distributed Tree-first based spanning-tree structures in overlay multicast techniques. We also propose effective tree structures that minimize latency time and provide competent service by choosing optimum parent nodes early in the base of these two methods over the same time slot in multi-user connection. The results of our comparison showed that average latency time in mOBCP techniques declined by 36% from those of TBCP technique.

Hong, Euy-Seok ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 8, issue 7, 2008, Pages 66~74
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.7.066
Criticality prediction models to identify most fault-prone modules in the system early in the software development process help in allocation of resources and foster software quality improvement. Many models for identifying fault-prone modules using design complexity metrics have been suggested, but most of them are training models that need training data set. Most organizations cannot use these models because very few organizations have their own training data. This paper builds a prediction model based on a well-known supervised learning model, error backpropagation neural net, using design metrics quantifying SDL system specifications. To solve the problem of other models, this model is trained by generated virtual training data set. Some simulation studies have been performed to investigate feasibility of this model, and the results show that suggested model can be an alternative for the organizations without real training data to predict their software qualities.

Hong, Seok-Hee ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 8, issue 7, 2008, Pages 75~84
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.7.075
Concurrency and synchronization problems are often caused by database applications concurrently accessing databases managed by DBMS. Most commercial DBMSs support isolation levels to resolve these problems. Verification of isolation levels are most important because consistency and integrity constraints of the database can be violated according to isolation levels of transactions that consists of database applications. We propose a test tool set to verify and reveal faulty settings of isolation levels and implement a prototype of the test tool set. The proposed tool set analyzes the SQL statements of ESQL/C programs, attaches the test codes to verify isolation levels, runs the test transactions and detects errors.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.7.085
Meshes are the most appropriate data structures for representing 3D geometries. Surface meshes have been frequently used for representing 3D geometries, which only samples data on the surfaces of the given 3D geometries. Thanks to the improvements of computing powers, it is required to develop more complicated contents which utilize the volumetric information of 3D geometries. In this paper, we introduce a novel volumetric mesh libraries based on the half-face data structure, called OpenVolMesh, and describe its designs and implementations. The OpenVolMesh extends the OpenMesh, which is one of the most famous mesh libraries, by supporting volumetric meshes. The OpenVolMesh provides the generic programming, dynamic allocations of primitive properties, efficient array-based data structures, and source-level compatibility with OpenMesh. We show the usefulness of the OpenVolMesh in the developments of 3D volumetric contents with prototypic implementations such as volumetric mesh smoothing and CW-cell decompositions.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 8, issue 7, 2008, Pages 161~173
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2008.8.7.161
Silmido [실미도 2003] captures the covered historical reality and describes the spectacular training process of the special army stationed at Silmido in vivid detail. As a result, a fictional space is turned into a reality film. The film shows ideological inconsistency of the critical view about the fascism of government authority and at the same time the political aid about government authority. The film creates dramatic and friendly effect through melodramatic and emotional exaggeration called sinpa about historical events to produce the pleasure of assimilation based on the trust of the audience. Here, individual assimilation is subjectivity achieved through the general sympathy coming from the tragic national discourse. Silmido appeals to the imaginary community not in a logical but in an emotional way. The spectacular action and realistic images are supported by national tragedy divided into the South Korea and the North Korea, and integrated sentimentalism to amplify the tragedy. Silmido tries to strengthen the tragic situation caused by the division ideology through this sentimentalism called sinpa. In contrast to the brutality of the relentless military regime, the sacrifice of good-hearted Silmido force members is heroically portrayed.
