The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 4, 2009, Pages 1~11
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.001
To classifying and filtering of adult images, in recent the computer vision techniques are actively investigated because rapidly increase for the amount of adult images accessible on the Internet. In this paper, we investigate and develop the tool filtering of adult images using skin color model. The tool is consisting of two steps. In the first step, we use a skin color classifier to extract skin color regions from an image. In the nest step, we use a region feature classifier to determine whether an image is an adult image or not an adult image depending on extracted skin color regions. Using histogram color model, a skin color classifier is trained for RGB color values of adult images and not adult images. Using SVM, a region feature classifier is trained for skin color ratio on 29 regions of adult images. Experimental results show that suggested classifier achieve a detection rate of 92.80% with 6.73% false positives.
Efficient Coding Technique for 4X4 Intra Prediction Modes using the Statistical Distribution of Intra Modes of Adjacent Intra Blocks
Kim, Jae-Min ; Kang, Hyun-Soo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 4, 2009, Pages 12~18
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.012
In this paper, we propose a novel method which efficiently codes
intra prediction modes in H.264/ AVC video encoding. There are nine optional prediction modes for each
luma block and 4 modes for each
luma block. To code each
intra prediction mode, lots of bits are required. To efficiently compress the intra mode bits in H.264/AVC, the most probable mode(MPM) is estimated by using the intra modes of the adjacent blocks, since intra modes for neighboring
luma blocks are correlated. In this paper, a novel method for estimating the MPM is proposed by using the statistical distribution of intra modes of adjacent intra blocks. Experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve a coding gain of about 0.1dB.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.019
The microwave exposure device for microwave breast cancer detection consists of RF transceiver and several antennas. The microwave information of object acquired from the microwave exposure device can be calculated permittivity and conductivity by using the inverse scattered analysis. In this paper, we have developed the software for detecting breast cancers based on microwave tomography, by which users not only can check out the existence of breast cancers through the permittivity and conductivity information analysis of the object`s internal, but also can analysis easily information for distribution of breast cancers. The developed software provides the function for visualizing the captured permittivity and conductivity information as 2D or 3D color images on which users can easily detect the existence of breast cancers. For more detailed analysis of tomography images, the proposed software also has provided the functions for displaying their cutting profiles as well as position and size information of special area in them.

Choi, Kyung-Seok ; Kang, Hyun-Soo ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 4, 2009, Pages 27~33
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.027
Selection of the Lagrangian multiplier is a key factor to determine the performance of Rate-Distortion Optimization (RDO) in video coding. JM, reference S/W of H.264, employs only one RDO model for all macroblock. However, since the characteristics of macroblocks are different, RDO model adaptive to their characteristics can give some performance improvement. In this paper, we propose an RDO algorithm adaptive to characteristics of macroblocks. We empirically obtain the optimal Lagrangian multipliers considering characteristics of macroblocks. For performance evaluation, the proposed method is applied to JM10.2 and, as a result, we have PSNR gain of 0.2dB on average.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.034
Integrating 3D data acquired in multiple views is one of the most important techniques in 3D modeling. However, due to the presence of surface scanning noise and the modification of vertices consisting of surface, the existing integration methods are inadequate to some applications. In this paper, we propose a method of integrating surfaces by using the local surface topology. We first find all boundary vertex pairs satisfying a prescribed geometric condition on adjacent surfaces and then compute 2D planes suitable to each vertex pairs. Using each vertex pair and neighbouring boundary vertices projected to their 2d plane, we produce polygons and divide them to the triangles which will be inserted to empty space between the adjacent surfaces. A proposed method use local surface topology and not modify the vertices consisting of surface to integrate several of surfaces to one surface, so that it is robust and simple. We also integrate the transformed textures to a 2D image plane computed by using a cylindrical projection to composite 3D textured model. The textures will be integrated according to the partition lines which considering attribute of face object. Experimental results on real object data show that the suggested method is simple and robust.
Ontology-Based Recognition Mechanism for Objects in Cyber World

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 4, 2009, Pages 45~54
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.045
The virtual world is simulated in terms of agents and the environment as the real world. Agents are able to perceive and recognize objects as well as components of the environmental elements in the virtual world. As a result, they are able to autonomously act in terms of their decision. They generate diverse situation that make the user to feel familiarity as they would be have like human beings. Such situations are constructed in terms of the concepts of the entities, relations and activities, and agents accordingly recognize the situations in terms of these concepts. In this paper, we propose the method to recognize and represent the shapes which are the most important feature among objects. Various shapes are represented in terms of primitive shapes and their spatial relations in depth. We use distance, direction, and orientation in order to represent basic spatial relation. In order to simplify basic signal processing, objects dynamically send messages of self information to agents, and refer to ontology as the knowledge base of the virtual world. Agents perceive the information from objects by comparing with schematic knowledge and instance knowledge in ontology.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.055
For realizing ubiquitous computing, many research activities are geared towards various areas including embedded computing, RFID, USN, home networking, context-awareness, and etc. By using the ability of RFID technology to recognize a number of objects simultaneously, more convenient ubiquitous application services are effectively provided. In this case, RFID middleware playing a role as a bridge between RFID reader devices and application services is required as well. In this paper, we propose a method of handling a number of types of RFID reader devices in ALE middleware of EPCglobal. For this, the information of connection and data protocol for a reader device is stored in a database as ontology meta-data, and used to interpret the data read by a reader device. By adding ontology data into a database, even though an RFID device newly emerges, ALE middleware can not only handle the device, but also be effectively extended through reusing ontology data, without any changes in the middleware.

In ubiquitous environments, the real-time features are necessary to insure the QoS of the intelligent service robots. In this paper, we design and implement a real-time framework for intelligent service robots to support real-time features. The real-time framework to support real-time scheduling services is implemented on the general operating systems. We solve the problem that the scheduler of a general operating system can not support real-time features. This paper also proposes realtime scheduling services to guarantee the QoS of real-time robot applications. We implemented the proposed real-time framework on the Windows operating system and conducted some performance experiments. The experimental results show that the proposed real-time framework can improve thread response times and it has slight performance overhead of

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.114
In this study, we employed the idea that disease-related proteins tend to be work as an important factor for architecture of the disease network. We initially obtained 43 atopy-related proteins from the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) and then constructed atopy-related protein interaction network. The protein network can be derived the map of the relationship between different disease proteins, denoted disease interaction network. We demonstrate that the associations between diseases are directly correlated to their underlying protein-protein interaction networks. From constructed the disease-protein bipartite network, we derived three diseasomal proteins, CCR5, CCL11, and IL/4R. Although we use the relatively small subnetwork, an atopy-related disease network, it is sufficient that the discovery of protein interaction networks assigned by diseases will provide insight into the underlying molecular mechanisms and biological processes in complex human disease system.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 4, 2009, Pages 121~130
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.121
In this paper, feature extraction methods, which is one field of reducing dimensions of high-dimensional data, are empirically investigated. We selected the traditional PCA(Principal Component Analysis), ICA(Independent Component Analysis), NMF(Non-negative Matrix Factorization), and sNMF(Sparse NMF) for comparisons. ICA has a similar feature with the simple cell of V1. NMF implemented a "parts-based representation in the brain" and sNMF is a improved version of NMF. In order to visually investigate the extracted features, handwritten digits are handled. Also, the extracted features are used to train multi-layer perceptrons for recognition test. The characteristic of each feature extraction method will be useful when applying feature extraction methods to many real-world problems.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 4, 2009, Pages 131~141
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.131
An increasing variety of malware, such as worms, spyware and adware, threatens both personal and business computing. Remotely controlled bot networks of compromised systems are growing quickly. This paper proposes an intrusion detection system based outflow traffic analysis. Many research efforts and commercial products have focused on preventing intrusion by filtering known exploits or unknown ones exploiting known vulnerabilities. Complementary to these solutions, the proposed IDS can detect intrusion of unknown new mal ware before their signatures are widely distributed. The proposed IDS is consists of a outflow detector, user monitor, process monitor and network monitor. To infer user intent, the proposed IDS correlates outbound connections with user-driven input at the process level under the assumption that user intent is implied by user-driven input. As a complement to existing prevention system, proposed IDS decreases the danger of information leak and protects computers and networks from more severe damage.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.142
As many companies have adopted and used ERP systems, concerns about ERP performance also have increased. The purpose of this research is to examine the relationships between qualitative variables and quantitative variables measuring ERP performances. Qualitative research, widely used in MIS research, typically examines perceived usefulness of ERP, such as information quality, system quality, system satisfaction. Quantitative research, often done in accounting research, usually examines ERP performance based on financial statements. An empirical study led to the following conclusions: 1) There were significant correlations among the qualitative variables measuring perceived usefulness of ERP; 2) Significant correlations were also observed among the quantitative variables based on financial statements; 3) However, no significant correlations was found between the qualitative variables and quantitative variables measuring ERP performance.

Oh, Jong-Sir ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 4, 2009, Pages 154~161
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.154
Thanks to the circumstance of digital convergence, most of the world TV and radio stations are gearing up for digitalisation of broadcasting. In this flux, digital switchover in South Korea should be completed by 2012 when transmission of analogue broadcasting signal will be ceased. According to the report, it shows only over 30% take up roughly so far, but there is no official survey from relevant organisation. It is very comparable with British digital switchover which is same year as S. Korea and has been reported 88% take up as of 2008 Q2. Yet the digital switchover in S. Korea inferred from this current is not a rosy future and even seems to be perilous. The purpose of this paper is to predict the media future of S. Korea at the view point of futurology and draw out the possibilities which enable to affect viewing behavior. In order to analyse it applies the futures wheel which is one of useful tools for future work. Consequently it suggests a number of scenarios how to cope with the impending situation in S. Korea.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.162
In directing a film, aesthetics are use for visual manifestation of narratives to audiences. Especially, colors have important roles in that process to express emotions and to convey the story. For 3D animation, they may play even more important roles due to the nature of colors being generated by computers. This paper studies the relationship between narratives and colors by analyzing how colors change by the rise and fall of tensions in narratives, and by investigating how emotional expressions are affected due to color changes.
Current Situation on the Construction of Program Production Systems in the Local Broadcasting : Centering around the Terrestrial Broadcasting Systems in Daejeon
Lee, Jong-Tak ; Jeong, Jong-Geon ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 4, 2009, Pages 172~180
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.172
This study considers some changes in the program production by the local broadcasting stations through the analysis of their programs. Currently, one of the biggest changes in the local broadcasting systems is that they focus on the self-produced contents about the community and expand the joint-production. In the case of KBS Daejeon, they try to activate various joint-produced programs together with the local broadcasting stations in Yeongnam province. MBC Daejeon has also strengthened the joint-production systems since 2002 by classifying MBC`s 19 subsidiary stations around the country into 5 groups in order to strengthen the competitiveness. As for TJB, they work in the cooperation with other commercial broadcasting stations in other cities, including Busan, Kwangju, Jeonju, Ulsan, Daegu by sharing the programs which they produced. In conclusion, the local broadcasting systems should depart from the function as a mediating center of the central broadcasting network and strengthen the ability of producing programs in order to be able to function as a source of producing programs. Thus, local broadcasting stations should expand the joint production of the programs about the communities and the ratio of the organization of the self-produced programs.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.181
With the question, "What would be the difference between TV drama image production techniques under the changing circumstances of domestic broadcasting faced with multi-media, multi-channel age after 1980` s press unification and establishment of two times commercial TV stations?" This study analysed image production techniques of three periods of TV drama development, `TV drama maturity period(1981-1990)`, `TV drama transition period(1991-2000)`, `TV drama take-off period(2001-)`. For the image analysis within the genre of home drama, 3 dramas for each period were selected and analysed cameraworks, shot size, shot duration with the broadcasting station`s DVD, homepage and manuscript. The result of this analysis revealed that the change of shot size was slight but the change of cameraworks was great, the usage of zoom and tilt diminished but the usage of dolly and track increased. and the average shot duration drastically diminished during the take-off period. These results show us that broadcasting production equipments developed during the periods, and broadcasting stations poured all-out efforts for the higher viewing rates and international competitiveness.

Cho, Do-Hee ; Maik, Vivek ; Paik, Joon-Ki ; Har, Dong-Hwan ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 4, 2009, Pages 189~197
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.189
A digital image usually has 8 bits of depth basically representing pixel intensity ranging for [0 255]. These pixel range allow 256 step levels of pixel values in the image. Thus the greyscale value for a given image is an integer. When we carry out interpolation of a given image for resizing we have to round the interpolated value to integer which can result in loss of quality on perceived color values. This paper proposes a new method for recovering this loss of information during interpolation process. By using the proposed method the pixels tend to regain more original values which yields better looking images on resizing.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 4, 2009, Pages 198~206
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.198
Recently, there has been a trend designing a consistent and uniform regional identity in South Korean provinces as demonstrated by efforts in Chungcheongnam buk-Do. The motivating goals have been to establish an identity for local residents, provide voluntary services, achieve higher value-added business, introduce new management strategies, and establish a local brand through the exportation of local specialties. The by-products of these goals when accomplished include: maintaining a consistent policy, securing governmental economic efficiency of the province, characterizing local culture and improving quality of life. In this study, I tried to find out whether a local logo which is associated with a city plays a core role in the city`s identity by comparing each symbol`s shape, color and other components which are ways of expressing its meaning. In this respect, I analyzed the type of the Chungcheongnam buk-Do`s symbol marks (30) and tried to suggest the desirable direction in developing symbol marks.

The effects of 5day-work-week have given us strong family relationships by increasing sparing time. People who visit national parks enjoy the intimate with family. Especially, the public park has much benefits, such as people visit easily with moderate prices. This research is focused on the sign-design to increase watching effects with low price. However, there are some problems suck as assignments of sign without much considerations for moving line, unmatched with circumstances, lacking of consistency images. Thus, the effect of entertaining is decreased. For this, the paper analysis large-scale public park and large-scale private parks, and solves the several kinds of the problems. We also classify the types of sign designs and propose the sign design methods on characteristics. Therefore, we provide the objectivity of proposed sign designs by evaluating conveniences and expectations, and proposed the design methods of public parks and private parks.

As we recognize the health care, test of BMD is increased. There are various methods in BMD, Dual Energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) which has high precision and accuracy, and low medical exposure dose has been widely used. To measure the changes of BMD, the test must be done as same posture at first and follow up study performed a year. we analyze the difference in the hour taken before and after the examination by radiologic technologist, frequency of scout scan, and the amount of the radiation exposure. The hour of the examination and frequency of the scout scan were shorten and the dose of the radiation exposure is reduced. As the numerical value of total subjects is converted into that of one person, the duration for the test was 52 seconds, the frequency for the scout scan 0.79 time, and the dose for the radiation exposure
. When the health care provider perform the precise and easy methods to minimize changes of posture and the skillful ability to manage the test, useless radiation is decreased.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.4.254
The purpose of this study was to develop a performance measurement factor of Balanced Scorecard(BSC) for health-care organization. We did also the research to evaluate the validity and reliability of these indicators. Fifty six health-care organizations are participated in a survey questionnaires. This questionnaires consists of 53-questions, which are the performance evaluation indicators designed by researcher, which are based on the Norton and Kaplan`s BSC-Framework. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was carried out and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was applied to analyze the weight and significances of each factor. Factor analysis of the BSC resulted in 11 major measurement factors (Eigenvalue >1.0). The AHP analysis showed the list of the hospital BSC measurement factors and its KPI(Key Performance Indicator) weighted by its significance priorities. The recommendable degree of reliability and validity of these BSC factors suggests that these factors are adequate for performance measurements of the health-care organizations in Korea.

During an 8 month period from January to August 2007, complete blood count (CBC) samples were taken from various wards and from the outpatient department at Samsung Medical Center. In order to determine whether or not the total white blood cells were over counted, results were obtained from both the 4Diff/channel and the white blood cell channel from the automated blood analysis equipment from S company for comparison. Among patients who were on long term treatments, the number of cases determined to be over counted by comparing the WBC counts during this 8 month period was 25. Clinical chemistry tests were also conducted on the same day on the 25 samples taken. 68% of the patients showed to exceed normal range of aspartate transaminase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) indicating abnormal liver function, and the total bilirubin range were also in excess in 60% of the total samples taken. Further clinical information which was obtained from the patients showed 98% of the patients were administered with cefepime which is the 4th generation cephalosporin at the time when the WEC were over counted. It is assumed that a multiple of factors investigated caused the over count of the WEC rather than a single factor.

Became large a problem we were productive movement of information became large and occurring to diffusions of development of public media and Internet use. While the Internet became a generalization, public media had more influences and risks, and a crime to abuse anonymity became large in cyber space. In addition, damage is becoming expanded reproduction that infringe of ` crime victim`s rights of portrait`. The point that is most important in order to improve these points is recognition regarding the special situation of crime victim, and the ethic consciousness and independent operation regulation and regulation system that these point was taken into consideration in the public media and Internet operation that are an information producer is necessary, and Internet portal shall be included like Internet newspapers to the arbitration object of the Press Arbitration Commission. Also, a legal system regarding personal responsibility shall have for protection of a crime victim`s rights of portrait by personal information activity for protection in cyber space. Suggest to a portrait of a crime victim, and an individual and social rights security effort are required for activation regarding an infringement relief system.

Unlike profit-seeking businesses, hospitals provide medical services to promote the public good in a way, and they need a reform of management to ensure sustainable growth in fast-changing medical environments. The key to the managerial reform is enhancing efficiency, and inefficient managerial practices and factors affecting that should be grasped first of all to boost the efficiency of hospital management. But evaluation methods that are prevalent in the private sector are hardly applicable to hospitals. The purpose of this study was to assess hospital efficiency by using a data envelopment analysis(DEA). The 2006 data on 74 residency training hospitals with 500 beds or more were analyzed. The selected input variables included the number of bed, the number of doctors, the number of nurses, the number of medical technicians, personnel expenses, management cost and materials cost. And the selected output variables were the yearly number of outpatients, the yearly number of inpatients, the number of operation cases and earnings. In addition, the influence of the type of hospital establishment, location, the year of foundation and the type of hospital on hospital efficiency was checked as well.

Lithium has only a minimal effect on basal glucose transport activity, instead that lithium markedly increased the sensitivity of glucose transport to insulin by increasing in insulin induced glucose transport activity. And Lithium increases in insulin responsiveness as well. Previous studies has reported this enhancement of lithium to stimulate the glucose transport process is not only limited to insulin, it also induce the increases in the sensitivity of glucose transport by submaximal contractile activity. The preliminary study, however, leads that Lithium possibly improves the responsiveness of glucose transport with maximal muscle contraction. In this study, we investigated the effect of Lithium on contraction for the maximal glucose transport. For the purpose of this study, Epitrochlearis muscles of SD rat were isolated and treated Lithium with electric contraction and/or insulin to activate the maximal glucose transport. The results support that Lithium improves the responsiveness of glucose transport through potentiates contraction and/or insulin induced-glucose uptake in muscle. Consequently Lithium treated with muscle contraction and insulin has the important potential to improve the insulin resistance and diabetes.

The stone pagodas include small internal spaces such as holes of Buddha`s bones generally and the space`s positions and sizes can make an influence on the maintenance of the stone pagoda. Also, inclined angles of the stone pagodas are an important factor to be considered to preserve them. In this paper, the Junghyesaji thirteen-storied stone pagoda subjected to its weight was analyzed through the finite element method to investigate the weakest location of the pagoda and study how size variation of internal spaces and slope variation influenced the weakest location. And criterions were proposed to examine the safety of the stone pagoda along the size variation of the internal spaces and the slope variation in view of the deflections and the stresses to examine fractures of the pagoda.

Increased oxidative stress by abnormal mitochondrial function can damage cell signal transduction and gene expression, and induce insulin resistance or diabetes. Autophagy, however, improve insulin resistance by clearance of malfunctioning mitochondria. Exercise also recovers the muscle dysfunction and degeneration by activating mitochondrial biogenesis. As it seems that exercise and autophagy might act as an orchestrated network to induce mitochondrial biogenesis, we investigated whether autophagy is involved in AMPK signal pathway stimulated by exercise or AICAR to increase mitochondrial biogenesis. And it showed that PGC-1 and mtTFA, but not autophagy marker LC3 mRNA expression were significantly increased by 6 hr of acute exercise. On the other hand, PGC-1 and mtTFA mRNA expression were upregulated by AICAR treatment to C2C12 myotube. However these genes were not inhibited by LC3 siRNA transfection. These results provide the evidence that autopahgy affects on mitochondrial biogenesis through different signal pathway from AMPK signal transduction.

We analyzed romance of the three kingdoms written by Luo Guanzhong by using complex network to compare its properties with those of social network. The three kingdom network has a scale free and hierarchical network properties. Human-human interaction networks are dramatically changing in response to time and space. Due to lack of the dynamic interacting data, the researches only focus to analysis for properties of the statical networks. The romance of the three kingdoms is a Chinese historical novel based upon events from the end of the Han Dynasty, the Three Kingdoms era of China, and the reunification of the land. There are over a thousand characters, over a three thousand human-human interactions, and the dynamic changed in human-human interactions in the historical novel. Here, we introduce that a possible method for analyzing about dynamic changing of the complex network.

Recently, the number of children of multi-cultural family is increasing and the achievement gap between city and farming village is getting larger. It will be alternatives to develop e-learning contents which students can study by themselves where there are internet connected computers. As one of the solutions to improve students` writing ability, we developed animation e-learning contents about manuscript paper usage and sentence signs. As a result of applying e-learning contents to students, we can make sure that e-learning contents are more effective than existing means such as workbook-centered education and web contents persuaded by text in academic interesting, satisfaction and achievement. Consequently, we offer this training methods as alternatives which can increase academic performance for multi-cultural family and Korean students who are behind the other students in language ability.
