Chung, Kyung-Yong ; Jun, In-Ja ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 8, 2009, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.001
With the development of IT convergence technology and the construction of master plan for the four rivers restoration of the government, the importance of the eco-friendly water pollution management is being spotlighted. In this paper, we proposed the effective water pollution management using the reservoir tank automatic classification for improving the water quality and on-line managing efforts of ceo-friendly reservoir tanks. The proposed method defined the seven factors of water pollution evaluation and managed the water pollution according to hydrogen ion concentration(pH), chemical oxygen demand(COD), suspend solid(SS), dissolved oxygen(DO), count of coliform group(MPN), total phosphorus(T-P), and total nitrogen(T-N) using the sensors. We measured the values for the seven factors from the reservoir tank and normalized to ranging from 1 to 9. To evaluate the performance of the water pollution management using the reservoir tank automatic classification, we conducted F-measure so as to verify usefulness. This evaluation found that the difference of satisfaction by the traditional system was statistically meaningful.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.009
License plate recognition is an active research area. but few comparative studies on license plate binarization have been conducted. Many related researchers have experienced similar trial and error for finding an effective binarization method. To reduce this trial and error, this study implemented some binarization methods and quantitatively compared the performance of the methods. The performance evaluation consists of a low level measure and a high level measure, so it can evaluate not only the quality of binarized image itself but also the usefulness of the result. The performance evaluation was separately performed with three groups of images so as to understand the properties of the binarization methods. Experimental results show that the quality of binarization is more dependent on the evenness of illumination than the intensity of illumination. The Otsu's method has acquired the most effective performance in the group of even illumination images and the Niblack's method with parameter correction has shown the best quality in the group of uneven illumination images.

Improved reliability of microarray data and its reproducibility lead to recent increment in demand of data sharing and utilization among laboratories, but house-keeping and publicly opened microarray experimental data can hardly be accessed and utilized since they are in heterogeneous formats according to the various experimental methods and microarray platforms. In this paper, we propose a microarray sharing method which can easily retrieve and integrate microarray data from different experiment platforms, data formats, normalization methods, and analysis methods. Our system is based on web-service technology. The biologists of each site are able to search UDDI(Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration) registry, and download microarray data with common data structure of standard format recommended by MGED(Microarray Gene Expression Databases) society. The common data structure defined in this paper consists of IDF(Investigation Design Format), ADF(Array Design Format), SDRF(Sample and Relationship Format), and EDF(Expression Data Format). These components play role as templates to integrate microarray data with various structure and can be stored in standard formats such as MAGE-ML, MAGE-TAB, and XML Schema. In addition, our system provides advanced tools of automatic microarray data submitter and file manager to manipulate local microarray data efficiently.

In this paper, we propose a method of energy level, node degree and selection information based CDS(Connected Dominating Set) construction algorithm for more efficient routing in ad-hoc wireless networks. Constructing CDS in ad-hoc wireless network, it is necessary to make more efficient algorithm that is faster, more simple and has low power consumption. A CDS must be minimized because nodes in the CDS consume more energy in order to handle various bypass traffics than nodes outside the set. It is better not to reconstruct CDS after constructing the most efficient CDS. To overcome this problem, we proposed the CDS construction algorithms based on EL+ND+Sel method. We compared and estimated the performance in each situation of EL + ND and EL + ND + Sel.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.057
Object recognition technologies using PCA(principal component analysis) recognize objects by deciding representative features of objects in the model image, extracting feature vectors from objects in a image and measuring the distance between them and object representation. Given frequent recognition problems associated with the use of point-to-point distance approach, this study adopted the k-nearest neighbor technique(class-to-class) in which a group of object models of the same class is used as recognition unit for the images in-putted on a continual input image. However, the robustness of recognition strategies using PCA depends on several factors, including illumination. When scene constancy is not secured due to varying illumination conditions, the learning performance the feature detector can be compromised, undermining the recognition quality. This paper proposes a new PCA recognition in which database of objects can be detected under different illuminations between input images and the model images.

AMR(Automatic Meter Reading), which means that it reads the meter of electricity, gas, or water, etc at a remote place automatically through wired or wireless communication, has been studied in terms of Power Line Communication method and Local Area Wireless Communication method, etc. In this paper, we designed and implemented JCA(Java Card for AMR) capable of AMR, which is based on java Card technology indispensable to the ubiquitous world. In this paper, JCA follows standard transactional procedures offered by power supply company and manages power usage log and billing data, and is designed in order to satisfy EMV multi-functional specifications. Because JCA is a multi-functional smart card capable of post-issuance applets as an open platform, it is installed into other applications of affiliated concerns as well as credit card and traffic card applications. Not only the proposed JCA is a low cost system, compared to other AMR systems, but is capable of paying rates in advance or later by applying authentication and security function of java Card. In addition the proposed JCA system can create value added services such as affiliated services with corporate alliance.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.073
TCP(Transmission Control Protocol) is currently used connection-oriented protocol as a typical transport layer protocol in the Internet. However, it has deficiency not be able to communicate with other TCP entities when any link included in the path is down because of single-homing on single path. SCTP(Stream Control Transmission Protocol) suggested as the new transport layer protocol supports multi-homing feature, which provides several paths between source and destination. It can communicate with other SCTP entities using alternate path even when any link on the primary path is down. This paper aims to measure and analyze the multi-homing effect of SCTP over TCP in case of link-down using NS-2 simulator. We classify SCTP into
because SCTP with single-homing can also be used like TCP. We measured throughput and bandwidth utilization varying link-down duration, bandwidth, and RTT(round trip time), Simulation results show that throughput of
is more than that of TCP by 18 % on average. It is also shown that
on varying RTT and bandwidth increases the throughput of TCP by 'l7% and 9% on average, respectively in the link-down environment. In above cases, more or less difference between
and TCP on throughput and bandwidth utilization was found To summarize, multi-homing effect of SCTP over TCP on throughput is about 18 % on average in the link-down environment This experimental result can be used as the benchmark in order to estimate the multi-homing effect of SCTP over TCP when the link-down happens in the real Internet.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.084
In this paper, the RFID-based ad-hoc network is presented for the efficient yard management of the container terminal. The loading and unloading work is performed through the ad-hoc communication between YT and GC, YT and TC within the yard without the control of the central server. That makes the efficient operation of the yard with real task correspondence. Using the location information of the RFID tag, we have proposed the routing protocol which is suitable for the yard environment of the container terminal. The performance evaluation has been carried out through the network simulator and gained an effective results.

This paper presents a solution to error avalanche of deciphering where radio noise brings random bit errors in encrypted image data under ubiquitous environment. The image capturing module is to be made comprising data compression and encryption features to reduce data traffic volume and to protect privacy. Block cipher algorithms may experience error avalanche: multiple pixel defects due to single bit error in an encrypted message. The new fault tolerant scheme addresses error avalanche effect exploiting a three-dimensional data shuffling process, which disperses error bits on many frames resulting in sparsely isolated errors. Averaging or majority voting with neighboring pixels can tolerate prominent pixel defects without increase in data volume due to error correction. This scheme has 33% lower data traffic load with respect to the conventional Hamming code based approach.

XML can supply the standard data type in information exchange format on a lot of data generated in running database or applied programs for a company by using the advantage that it can describe meaningful information directly. Therefore, as it becomes more and more necessary to manage and protect massive XML data in an efficient way, the development of safe XML access control techniques needs a new method. In this study access authorization policies are defined to design access control systems. The findings demonstrated that algorithm suggested in this study improved system performance which was low due to the complex authorization evaluation process in the existing access control techniques. It is consequently proved that the safe XML access control policy presented in this study is in an improved form as compared with the existing access control methods.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.121
Iris recognition is a biometric technology which can identify a person using the iris pattern. Recently, iris information is used in many fields such as access control and information security. It is important for the iris recognition system to extract the feature which is invariant to changes in iris patterns. Those changes can be occurred by the influence of lights, changes in the size of the pupil. In this paper, we propose a novel method based on vector summation of gradient orientation vectors. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces processing time with simple vector calculation, requires small feature space and has comparable performance to the well-known previous methods.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 8, 2009, Pages 129~137
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.129
While the broadband network and multimedia technologies have been developing, the commercial market of digital contents also has been widely spreading with recently starting IPTV. As the IPTV services are getting to be generalized and popularized, the contents protection and authentication system tends to draw more attentions. So we need a system that can protect contents and allow only authenticated person to use right service by controling user authority and using content encryption. Until now, the conventional protection and authentication system is taking advantages of merits both in CAS and DRM. But the weak point of this system are in high costs, complexity and using HW. For resolving these problems, in this paper, we proposed IPTV contents protection and authentication system using OTP. When we transmit the content encrypted by OTP key using contents delivery technology, we operate XOR with contents using another settop-box's OTP key which was transmitted from distribution server. And contents are reconstructed and transmitted to the settop-box, In the end, downloaded content are encrypted by OTP key and are superior in content protection when contents redistribution. Since OTP use double-authentication elements in encryption process, this method is excellent in content protection. And it is very effective in cost aspect because it could be implemented by SW program. Another benefit is that we can shorten the development time period. In this paper, we propose and find its possibility as a new content protection and authentication method suitable for IPTV services.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 8, 2009, Pages 147~157
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.147
Recently, there has been continued research on UCP from the development effort estimation method to a software development project applying object oriented development methodology. Current research proposes a linear model estimating the developmenteffort by multiplying a constant to AUCP which applies technical and environmental factors. However, the fact that a non-linear regression model is more appropriate as the software size increases, the development period increases exponentially. In addition, in the UCP calculation process the occurrence of FP errors due to the application of TCF and EF, it is unrealistic to estimate the size with AUCP. This paper presents the issue of current research based on UCP without considering problems of the research, for example, TCF and EF and expresses the models (linear, logarithmic, polynomial, power and exponential type) estimating the development effort directly from UUCP. Consequently, the exponential model within non-linear models exhibit more accurate results than the current linear model. Therefore, after calculating the UUCP of the developing software system, using the proposed model to estimate the development effort, it is possible to estimate the direct cost required in development.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.158
Counselling between a patient and a doctor is crucial in telemedicine. In order for the doctor to examine the patient accurately, it needs an auscultation, at least. Currently, some video conference systems are implemented but it is hard to use them in the case of an cardiac disorder, because the patients suffering from cardiac disorder cannot be examined by a stethoscope over Internet. To solve this problem, the remote counselling service has to support real time transmission of the heart sound of the patient. In this paper, we present a remote counselling system with stethoscope. We also design and implement the system in order for health monitor to connect the patient with his attending physician for the environment of u-healthcare service. The proposed system supports a mobility for doctor and patient by exchanging IP addresses at an user authentication protocol. The system implemented by this paper can be used for cardiac patients in remote clinical setting in the future.

This paper investigates the influence of social networks on the satisfaction and loyalty of online game users. We gather the resulting questionnaires written by all respondents and compare social networks of users in the online game world. Social networks of online game users influence a sense of community. In consequence, the community sense influences the satisfaction and loyalty of online game users, respectively. Therefore, the companies which produce an online game and provide various services to users should consider the social networks and communities of their game users. Especially they have to try to manage the users who are the opinion leaders of the online game. If the companies make good relationships with users who are the opinion leaders of the online game, they would easily improve the loyalty of ordinary users by performing word-of-moth marketing of the users' opinions concerning about the online game.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.231
Men's jewelry are thought to have a limited role as assisting women's jewelry or wedding gifts. The variety of designs are limited, and most of them are just copies of Japanese designs. In order to bring out a new kinds of variety in men's jewelry design, I have chosen architectural structures as a motif. Architectural structures have strong symbolical meanings that express man. They are powerful and challenging, and symbolize wealth and authority. Mario Botta, the wolrd famous architect is an architect with this kind of spirit. His architectural style does not lose his own color in a chaotic situation, but keeps the feeling of shape and space on the basis of locality. In this study I have started with a motif that may express specific and modem feelings by compressing the shape and spatial images of Mario Botta's structures minimally into men's jewelry in order to grope the possibilities in all aspects. I have done these in order to rediscover the beauty of the architectural structures by using the shape and spatial images that are found in Botta's structures, so that I may propose a new kind of men's jewelry with stresses on their shapes.

Since consumers have difficulty in acquiring information related to products in online, they are apt to use WOM(word-of-mouth). It seems to be more popular and acceptable methods to acquire information about products sold in online. In other words, consumers who visit the Internet shopping-mall can not make a purchase-decision immediately because they have no sufficient knowledge about products. To solve this problem, consumers make use of the service called "online review". The objective of this study is to verify how these reviews can influence attitude toward the message, product and several buying behaviors in the online. In particular, this study focus on the message's sidedness(positive or negative) and objectivity(objective or subjective), because it is expected that consumers are likely to behave differently according to the characteristics of online reviews. Thus, to measure consumer's attitude and buying behavior, this study was examined by 4 types of messages. The results of this study are as follows: First, in the positive-objective message, the message attitude has a stronger effect on purchase intention than other outcomes. Second, in the positive-subjective message, the message attitude has a stronger effect on revisiting intention than others. Third, in the negative-objective message, the message attitude has a stronger effect on purchase intention than others. Hence, it is said that online shopping-mall managers need to understand the effects of multidimensional online review.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.8.423
This paper focuses on gender studies with respect to language education for KFL(Korean as a foreign language) students. It also attempts to view the role of gender as exerting influence on language learning and teaching, and surveys KFL teachers' awareness of the role of gender in Korean language education. It is conceivable that teachers who are aware of differences between female and male will be able to take these into account in their teaching; in doing so they will be more effective in their teaching than if they were to teach in ignorance of these differences. The survey for the teachers' awareness of gender difference was conducted through teachers' discussion as the follow-up measure of the questionnaire. A few teachers do not have a clear idea about the importance of gender differences in language teaching, but the majority have cognizance of the matter. For this research, a questionnaire was administered to 71 subjects, consisting 37 intermediate KFL students and 34 advanced KFL students. The result of the questionnaire reveals that 50.4% subjects use their words and intonation without recognizing the gender difference, on the other hand, 49.6% subjects recognize the gender differences in Korean language use. The result should be adopted as a sociolinguistic factor for the contents of second language education.
