Han, Hwa-Jeong ; Jeon, Yeong-Il ; Han, Chan-Hee ; Lee, Si-Woong ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 9, 2009, Pages 1~8
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.001
H.264/AVC video coding standard uses the rate distortion optimization method which determines the best coding mode for macroblock(MB) to improve coding efficiency. Whereas RDO selects the best coding mode, it causes the heavy computational burden comparing with previous standards. To reduce the complexity, in this paper, a fast intra prediction mode decision algorithm using directional gradients is proposed. The proposed algorithm is composed of 2-path structure. In the first path,
intra prediction mode is determined using directional gradients. In the second path, 3 modes instead of 9 modes are chosen for RDO to decide the best mode for
block. Finally, the two modes determined in the two-path decision process are compared to decide the final block mode. Experimental results show that the computation time of the proposed method is decreased to about 77% of the exhaustive mode decision method with negligible quality loss.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a next generation technology that will replace barcode. RFID can identify an object by reading ID inside a RFID tag using radio frequency. However, because a RFID tag replies its unique ID to the request of any reader through wireless communication, it is vulnerable to attacks on security or privacy through wiretapping or an illegal reader's request. The RFID authentication protocol has been studied actively in order to solve security and privacy problems, and is used also in tag search. Recently, as the number of tags is increasing in RFTD systems and the cost of data collection is also rising, the importance of effective tag search is increasing. This study proposed an efficient search method that solved through ta9 group the problem of large volume of database computation in Miyako Ohkubo's hash chain mechanism, which meets requirements for security and privacy protection. When we searched first the group of tags with access rate of 5 or higher in a database with 100,000 records, search time decreased by around 30%.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.018
Recently, although the requirement of quality of VOD content has been transferred upto the class of HD, conventional management systems characterized by OS dependency are truly limited in quality of video image, stability, and compatibility of network environments. In addition most of the content management systems realize very limited capabilities for the real affairs of content management and distribution services in such an OS dependent environment. In this paper, we propose a new scheme of HD-Class VOD Content Management System to solve these problems. We design and implement the proposed system based on open sources by using H.264 video compression method. The proposed system offers high quality content management method based on opened systems and independent on-line distribution method so that it can be realized as an integrated management scheme for VOD contents. Moreover, our system solves the problems of occasional cutting-down video, small screen, and poor image quality that exist in the conventional wmv-type CMS. According to the result of performance evaluation, our system maintains sufficient performance and tolerence for the case of large scale HD content operations or fabrications. We expect that the proposed integrated DB scheme will especially be effective when the content management applications are changed from Internet Web environments to mobile terminal environments.

What are important in wireless sensor networks are reliable data transmission, energy efficiency of each node, and the maximization of network life through the distribution of load among the nodes. The present study proposed DSPR, a dynamic unique path routing machanism that considered these requirements in wireless sensor networks. In DSPR, data is transmitted through a dynamic unique path, which has the least cost calculated with the number of hops from each node to the sink, and the average remaining energy. At that time, each node monitors its transmission process and if a node detects route damage it changes the route dynamically, referring to the cost table, and by doing so, it enhances the reliability of the network and distributes energy consumption evenly among the nodes. In addition, when the network topology is changed, only the part related to the change is restructured dynamically instead of restructuring the entire network, and the life of the network is extended by inhibiting unnecessary energy consumption in each node as much as possible. In the results of our experiment, the proposed DSPR increased network life by minimizing energy consumption of the nodes and improved the reliability and energy efficiency of the network.

A conventional middleware system is optimized for wired computing environments. The wireless mobile devices have several disadvantages of low-speed processors, small memory and narrow bandwidth of wireless network. To overcome those problem issues in wireless mobile environments, middleware and many middleware-related applications have to be changed of the small sized components. In this paper, we design a lightweight mobile middleware system called "LightMware" which is optimized for mobile environment and middleware applications

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.051
A watermarking for copyright protection of digital contents for broadcasting have to be made for a real-time system. In this paper, we propose a real-time video watermarking system which is hardware-based watermarking system of SD/HD (standard definition/high definition) video with the STRATIX FPGA device from ALTERA. There was little visual artifact due to watermarking in subjective quality evaluation between the original video and the watermarked one in our experiment. Embedded watermark was extracted after robustness testscalled natural video attacks such as A/D (analog/digital) conversion. Our implemented watermarking hardware system can be useful in movie production and broadcasting companies that requires real-time contents protection systems.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.060
This paper describes a development of system that enables the user to simulate the rockfall and landslide from slopes using physical engine. Until now, it will not be able to accomplish the virtual experiment of three-dimensional interpretation about slope informations, stability evaluation, the rockfall and landslide simulation, etc., because of absence of three-dimensional simulation systems which relates with slopes. With like that reason, this paper developed a simulator which is identical or similar the rockfall and the landslide where the possibility which will occur or occurred from actuality is high very actual condition from virtual experiment. For a simulator development, this paper uses the physical engine which is mainly used from computer game and animation development etc., And it will be show the process where the rockfall and landslide occurs with simulator. This simulator which sees the process where the rockfall and the landslide occur from three-dimension computer graphics theory and the physical engine, is a system which is the possibility of showing actual feeling. Therefore, the result of this paper is applied in vehicle travelling guidance system and intelligence traffic systematic etc., because of creates visual service and three-dimensional application of the slope information database which is developed in existing, and will be able to forecast the upgrade of user benefit planning and a service.

Jung, In-Sook ; Oh, Il-Seok ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 9, 2009, Pages 68~79
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.068
A variance map can be used to detect and distinguish texts from background in images. However, previous variance maps work at one level and they suffer a limitation in dealing with varieties in text size, slant, orientation, translation, and color. We present a method for robustly segmenting text regions in complex color Web images using two-level variance maps. The two-level variance maps work hierarchically. The first level finds the approximate locations of text regions using global horizontal and vertical color variances with the specific mask sizes. The second level then segments each text region using intensity variance with a local mask size, which is determined adaptively. By the second process, backgrounds tend to disappear in each region and segmentation can be accurate. Highly promising experimental results have established the effectiveness of our approach.

Lee, Sang-Wook ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 9, 2009, Pages 80~89
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.080
A fast and efficient search algorithm to determine an optimal number of clusters in clustering algorithms is presented. The method is based on cluster validity index which is a measure for clustering optimality. As the clustering procedure progresses and reaches an optimal cluster configuration, the cluster validity index is expected to be minimized or maximized. In this Paper, a fast non-exhaustive search method for finding the optimal number of clusters is designed and shown to work well in clustering. The proposed algorithm is implemented with the k-mean++ algorithm as underlying clustering techniques using CB and PBM as a cluster validity index. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides the computation time efficiency without loss of accuracy on several artificial and real-life data sets.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.097
This paper describes comparison and analysis of methodology which enables us in order to search the projection technique of optimum for projection in the plane. For this methodology, we applies the high-dimensional facial motion capture data respectively in linear and nonlinear projection techniques. The one core element of the methodology is to applies the high-dimensional facial expression data of frame unit in PCA where is a linear projection technique and Isomap, MDS, CCA, Sammon`s Mapping and LLE where are a nonlinear projection techniques. And another is to find out the methodology which distributes in this low-dimensional space, and analyze the result last. For this goal, we calculate the distance between the high-dimensional facial expression frame data of existing. And we distribute it in two-dimensional plane space to maintain the distance relationship between the high-dimensional facial expression frame data of existing like that from the condition which applies linear and nonlinear projection techniques. When comparing the facial expression data which distribute in two-dimensional space and the data of existing, we find out the projection technique to maintain the relationship of distance between the frame data like that in condition of optimum. Finally, this paper compare linear and nonlinear projection techniques to projection high-dimensional facial expression data in low-dimensional space and analyze it. And we find out the projection technique of optimum from it.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 9, 2009, Pages 105~113
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.105
The previous key management methods are not appropriate for secure data communication in cluster-based routing scheme. Because cluster heads are elected in every round and communicate with the member nodes for authentication and share-key establishment phase in the cluster. In addition, there are not considered to mobility of nodes in previous key management mechanisms. In this paper, we propose the secure and effective key management mechanisim in the cluster-based routing scheme that if there are no share keys between cluster head and its nodes, we create the cluster key using authentication with base station or trust autentication and exchange the their information for a round.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.114
73 percent of online games in Korea hold perspectives of medieval times in them. So far in history, about a millennium in medieval times is said to be a period of darkness and savagery, but it is newly revived in the digital virtual world. Such phenomenon is paradoxical and meaningful to often bring out `medieval times` as a theme for online games, which are revealed by up-to-date technologies in present days. This research examines the background of views of medieval times appeared in online games and how they are realized. Medieval fantasy games have appeared because people dream about escaping from pre-modem times and have fantasy about medieval times. Moreover, perspectives of medieval times have enormously influenced background epics, quest stories, creation of characters in a game scenario. The dual structure having coexistence of nature and super naturalness acts an important role to set up the epic for medieval fantasy games. And medieval romance literature, which has a three-step quest narrative of `targeting - adventure and fight - achievement` is reflected in a quest story of medieval fantasy games. The strict pyramid system represented by feudalism forms a meaningful metaphor for designing characters, and players organize communities for online games through horizontal collective consciousness in such vertical system of history at the same time.

DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.134
Entering the twentieth century, the development and change of artworks have had influence on spectators. When spectators appreciate artworks such as paintings and sculptures, they usually show passive, contemplative attitude towards artworks. Through upheavals like the two World Wars, the change of artworks requires the participation of spectators. Active change of spectators` roles have a lot to do with the changes of artworks that spectators enjoy. With the invention of computer and development of media in the mid-twentieth century, spectators reached the position of active users. Also contemporary spectators attempt to change from users to producers. Contemporary spectators` role as producers can be examined especially in the works of
by Naoko Tosa. This research explored the new role of spectators to clarify this trend.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 9, 2009, Pages 143~150
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.143
A quest in MMORPG functions as a unit of game narrative. It is an essential part to progress game narrative and to construct player's own storyline. In addition, it makes player to expand her territory and helps with character growth by giving reward. A quest consists of four essential elements : the quest giver, the background story, the objective and the reward. A quest shows a blanch structure with two nodes which is same as Claude Bremond's elementary sequence. The sequence of each functions cannot be changed, therefore, it can be explained through a syntagma model. On the other hand, spatial disposition of quests follows a paradigm model. In order to construct a MMORPG narrative, a player connects quests into a single narrative by carrying out them.

The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 9, 2009, Pages 151~162
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.151
As the aging population has increased, the silver generation is getting to account for the considerable percent of economic activities and becomes the main body of production and consumption. Although the economic activity of silver generation is increased, the development of silver contents for the leisure activities is still not revitalized. The serious silver contents and the easy-to-use interface are very important because the silver generation is relatively weaker than young people in perception, studying, and exercise, and is fragile in mobility and vitality. This paper suggests methods to develop sensory bicycle, gate ball, and mole game contents haying lower body exercise effects for the silver generation to utilize leisure and maintain health. Along with fun as games, functional design factors suitable to the cognitive ability and bodily activity ability of the silver generation were considered and through sensory intefaces that are easy for the silver generation to use and customized progressing methods complying with individual characteristics, it was attempted to induce continued interests and lower body exercise effects.

Lee, Jong-Tak ; Jeong, Jong-Geon ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 9, 2009, Pages 171~179
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.171
This paper explores the current situation of the broadcasting program production by video journalists (VJs), one of the recent trends of broadcasting production, centering around the programs made in Daejeon. The result of the survey shows that VJ programs are considered to be one of the generalized broadcasting program production systems. Thus, production costs should be γeadjusted to a realistic level in order to secure the good quality VJ programs in the current situation. Local broadcasting stations should depart from the idea that they make a VJ program subcontract to produce programs at low cost. It is time to support good quality VJ programs financially and systematically. The survey also reveals that most video journalists cannot participate in the decision-making process regarding program production. Local broadcastings should cooperate with video journalists, as co-producers, in producing the programs. Besides, VJ programs have some disadvantages such as limitation of high definition image production, poor image quality, instability of images taken, etc Hence, video journalists should also try to make better image quality of their broadcasting programs. Local subcontractors should make efforts to overcome their poor manpower and production environments as well. By economizing their scale of production and updating their production equipment, subcontractors need to constantly develop the contents related to local community which make them more competitive.

Advancement of technique in the
century has enabled us to combine designs through diversification of materials and academic liaison, which has brought about alteration of variety of desires in our lives. Consequently, visual concern along with harmony of functional roles allows development of design that matches one`s own Individuality, in which case is becoming the subject of interest. Currently, designs are being developed using various materials. This trend respects personal sensitivity and taste and thus becoming diversified. As a result of elevated standard of living, health and individuality are becoming highly concerned and accordingly, fragrance is being developed in various forms to match personal taste and character, such as one`s own memory and sensitivity. Hence, I am to propose a conjugation plan about men`s adornments that deviates from women`s secondary design and expresses only men`s character and sensitivity. First, I will engraft porosity metal with adornments and use materials that has aroma and direction of way of wearing it. Then, I will engraft visual design with the olfactory sensation to apply to ornaments, using mechanical traits and materials with aesthetic elements, which will meet the customers` sensuous demand

Discussions about unfavorable acts of corporations in managing activities include many legal considerations. In general cases, first of all, legality of the given acts should be verified. If they are judged to be illegal in their procedures, whether it is possible to assert nullification for the acts by the corporation law or not should be examined. Next, the claim for damages against the actors should be considered. After that, whether the actors have criminal liability or not should be discussed. In this case, it is difficult and complicated to judge what clauses of the Criminal Code in the substantive law apply to the unfavorable acts. when the director's business judgement in the long run causes the corporation to be unprofitable or suffer damage, the Question of whether criminal punishment can be imposed on the director is a very important one requiring careful consideration.

Kim, Jong-Soon ;
The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 9, 2009, Pages 278~286
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.278
The aims of this study were to determined whether excitability of the
-motor neuron is modulated by stretching and this changes were associated with flexibility of the muscle. In this study,
-motor neuron excitability was measured by using the Hmax/Mmax ratio of the gastrocnemius H-reflex, and muscle flexibility was measured with the range of motion of the ankle dorsiflexion. The gastrocnemii of 10 healthy volunteers were stretched for 4 minutes(2 minutes stretching, 1 minute rest, and 2 minutes stretching) in each session by manual force. The Hmax/Mmax ratio of the H-reflex, as well as the range of motion of the ankle dosiflexion was measured through four different conditions: before stretching, as soon as after
stretching, as soon as after
stretching and at 48 hours after
stretching. Excitability of the
-motor neuron was decreased significantly after
stretching(p<0.05). Furthermore, the range of the dorsiflexion was increased significantly after
stretching(p<0.05). However, the excitability of the
-motor neuron and range of the dorsiflexion at 48 hours after
stretching were not different from those of before stretching. These results suggest that reduced
-motor neuron excitability of the gastrocnemius and increased flexibility of the ankle dorsiflexion would be followed by activation of the type III mechanoreceptor which around the ankle joint and the Golgi tendon organ in the gastrocnemius.

The questionary hand out each 150, then used for data analysis 142 in Korean, 122 in China. The results come up with; First, It couldn`t compared huge gap for McDonald and Burger King in sampling. Second, three variables (successful, harmony, and western) are highly recognized brand personality in Korean. They should build up powerful image to communicate 20`s ages. For Chinese that ranked highly three variables (Darling, Friendly, and Sincere), they reinforced warm-hearted image with special character, providing promotion coupon, and various event. Third, because 2 factors(Sincere and Sensitivity) had significant in preference for Korean and Chinese. It should be formed non-producted parts which are visual decoration, atmosphere, uniform and music. Also, `feminine` had meaningful for Chinese. Fourth, `Sincere` was connected directly in revisiting for Korean and Chinese. Trust Is prior to customer and brand. Also, for Korean, `sensitivity` had significant. The Journal of the Korea Contents Association, volume 9, issue 9, 2009, Pages 411~422
DOI : 10.5392/JKCA.2009.9.9.411
The study seeks to explore essential factors that influence tourists' continual usage intentions to mobile tour information services. The variables such as characteristics of tour information service, accuracy, interactivity, context, ubiquitous connectivity, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use were adopted from previous research and the hypotheses were developed on the basis of Davis's Technology Acceptance Mode(TAM). The survey was conducted by users who have previously experienced mobile tourism information service. Structural equation modeling was used to Investigate the relationships between the factors. The results showed that interactivity, context, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use were found to have a positive impact on satisfaction. In particular, interactivity and context were found to be the most significant factors that influence reuse intentions. It suggests that increasing context and interactivity to make tourist trust about accuracy, ubiquitous connectivity is better than increasing perceived usefulness and perceived easiness. The identified factors that influence continual usage intentions on mobile services can be useful for analyzing the market trends and suggesting industrial guidelines of mobile services.
